A place to discuss Emeli’s newly released fourth album.

Looking forward to giving this a listen today. One of the greatest female voices to come from the UK for me. Here’s hoping it can at least do something in week one if nothing else.

I’ll need to make the time to listen to this.

Her first album was great and some singles since then have been fantastic too.

Brighter Days is superb though.

This is a great listen! Loving the variety of different sounds / styles on here her lyrics and voice remain as great as ever but she’s experimented well on here! This deserves to do well. If you ever think of Emeli as being a one trick pony or not versatile I’d say listen to this album definitely amongst the strongest albums of the year so far. I hope the signings this week mixed with preorders can at least give her a decent debut.

I need to listen again to pick out standouts. A cohesive album though but a change in sound for sure. Of all her albums she’s put so far I’d say this is the one what has the most “something for everyone” I think all the styles / sounds feel natural though. Interested to hear others thoughts on this.

Had a listen earlier and I really like it, it's so much more diverse and joyful than her previous album.

Brighter Days is one of her best singles in a while and I really like There Isn't Much too, from the other singles.

The album track highlights for me were the mid album trio of Look In Your Eyes (love the 80s vibe), Ready To Love (which feels like a Kygo hit - I approve of the Eurovision-esque ending too), and Wait For Me (which just has a lovely melody and production).

#13 on the first set of midweeks! Really hoping she can overtake some of the new entries ahead of her and can scrape into the top ten but streaming might actually knock her down a few places. Hopefully some of the signings she has through the week can help her out she’s in my area on Thursday signing at both Sunderland and Newcastle and she’s also got some signings in Scotland through the week plus a launch tonight. Hopefully she’ll manage to improve and at least manage top ten.

How popular are signings these days? Do they make much impact?

EDIT: The #10 album is on (2,353) copies so she’s below that so far. What a busy week for releases though! She’s also got Loose Women too but again not sure what impact that is but can’t harm.

I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of this album. I wasn't expecting much from it at all but it's actually got some really solid tracks on it, particularly the second half of the album.

Debuts at #27.

So gutted at this it’s one of my favourite albums of the year so far and contains some of her best work cry.gif

I still expected a top ten debut for this week one even with the sales decline.

This was a huge improvement over the previous, rather dull, album; such a shame that she’s falling out of the public eye!

This is solid but she was always going to struggle with the persona switch up and even the album art in terms of name recognition

I wouldn't say this is up there with LLTA or REAL LIFE for me (just yet), but my god there are some incredible tracks cheeseblock.png

Ready to Love is instantly one of my favourite songs in her discography, absolutely incredible. The first half of the album is definitely weaker than the second, it must be said. It sounds a lot like both Family and Look What You've Done were conceived with a different sounding project in mind. From There Isn't Much onwards the whole thing just comes to life wub.gif

I kinda see what you mean there. I really like both tracks you mentioned the auto tune on Family threw me at first but now I feel it really fits the track but sonically they’re different to the rest of the album. I need to give REAL LIFE another listen! At the time that didn’t grab me the way her first two albums did but Long Live The Angels I’d often go back too. I still think I’ll definitely return to this a lot, such a strong uplifting album with a nice change of direction. A #27 debut despite spending around half the week as the iTunes #1 album too! Still though, at least we got the album even if it hasn’t amounted to chart success and she seems happy enough in her personal life.

I've listened to this four or five times now and I'm absolutely loving it, her best since her debut for sure.

Highlights are: (in album order)
Look What You've Done
Oxygen
There Isn't Much
Ready To Love
Wait For Me
Yes You Can
Brighter Days
