BuzzJack Music Forum _ Pop _ Leona Lewis: The Singles Rate: RESULTS

Posted by: Joe. Sep 9 2015, 10:50 AM

46 of you rated - thanks to everyone who did! I have now worked out the full results, including the top 10, flops and of course the winner. ohmy.gif

To all you Leona fans over from Digital Spy, you're all encouraged to comment, predict and share your opinion of how the rate is going and how you expect/hope it's going to go.

I'll try not to drag this out longer than a few days - I'm going to kick this off today and get rid of the three flops that couldn't muster a 7 average and scored lowest. Any guesses as to which singles they might be?

Posted by: Jaÿ Sep 9 2015, 11:57 AM

Hype *.*

Posted by: Scene Sep 9 2015, 11:57 AM

I'm guessing the 3 flops will be I Will Be, Lovebird and I Got You.

Happy to win!!! (with OMS and Thunder finishing top 3).

18th: Lovebird
Average: 5.95

Happy; Insomnio (9), cowboystyle (9), Riser (9), J▲hq (9)
Trouble; tintin (-1), bartsimpson (-1), Karma (1), mr_pmt (2), Froot. (3), Ultraviolence1989 (3)

Poor ‘Lovebird’, is famous mostly for not making the top 200 upon its release week. Sadly, us Leona fans aren’t too keen on it as a single choice either, as it doesn’t even make a 6 average. Personally, I like it. I think it’s a nice song. But at the same time I think we can all agree that it was never going to smash as a single.

Posted by: Scene Sep 9 2015, 01:30 PM

The best thing about Lovebird is its single artwork.

Posted by: mr_pmt Sep 9 2015, 01:40 PM

Deservedly last. What in the name of god were they thinking releasing that?

Posted by: Joe. Sep 9 2015, 02:21 PM

17th: Fire Under My Feet
Average: 6.87

Happy; April (10), Cameron (10), Insomnio (10), Adam92 (9.5), Juranamo (9.5)
Trouble; LeeWallace (-1), Joe (3), Jay (3), JosephStyles (3), J▼hnkm (3.5)

This song was hugely anticipated by Leona fans and general fans of pop music. In fact, it felt like forever that we waited for it. Though it does have its genuine fans (April, Cam and Insomino giving it one of their three 10s!) I think a lot of the hype around its release came from people wanting to like the song, because we were finally getting new music from Leona. The UK public didn’t quite connect with it, since Leona’s big comeback single sadly charted at #51. For me personally, I find the theme is slightly too cliched/overdone to get on board with - especially with that seen-10000 times before video. Leona, as usual, sounds effortlessly wonderful on the track, but the song ultimately does not really go anywhere and it’s easily the weakest song I’ve heard on I Am.

FUMF doesn't deserve to be this low! sad.gif

I agree! I actually really like it.

Posted by: Envoirment Sep 9 2015, 03:11 PM

I really like the artwork/video for "Lovebird", shame about what happened to it. :sniff:

"Fire Under My Feet" is good, but one of my least favourite songs from I Am.

Posted by: Joe. Sep 9 2015, 03:16 PM

16th: I Will be
Average: 6.9

Happy; Riser (10), Leonagwen (9.5), Jay (9), JosephStyles (9), Krusty111 (9), burbe (9), Ryan. (9.5)
Trouble; LeeWallace (0)

A single that will pushed in America, which stars the incredibly hot Chace Crawford. It’s a lovely little track from Spirit but isn’t up there with Leona’s best. ‘Run’ should have been pushed instead. ‘I Will Be’ is SO close to managing a 7 average, but falls short by 0.10.

Posted by: Acidburn Sep 9 2015, 03:23 PM

Glad that "Lovebird" is last, such a boring choice, especially over the brilliant "Glassheart". "Fire Under My Feet" is kinda disappointing comeback and "I Will Be" is ok, but I do agree though that "Run" should have been pushed over there, or maybe "Take A Bow"

Posted by: mr_pmt Sep 9 2015, 03:48 PM

I think 'I Will Be' suits Avril a lot better. Even though Leona is a great vocalist and Avril... well, isn't, I feel she emotionally connects with it a lot better.

Posted by: Ultraviolence1989 Sep 9 2015, 03:54 PM

Fire under my feet is definitely a few places too low sad.gif

The best thing about Lovebird is its single artwork.

Yeah it's 10/10 for artwork, she looks incredible. The song is just so bad i just still to this day do not get why that was even discussed as a possible single choice, so so bizarre.

Posted by: Scene Sep 9 2015, 04:07 PM

'Lovebird' should never have been a single with the likes of 'Glassheart', 'Come Alive' and 'Shake You Up' on the album. 'Fire Under My Feet' had the potential to be a great song but the production/mastering of the track lets it down. The burp during "quicksand" or whatever it is is off-putting. 'I Will Be' is one of the better songs on Spirit but considering I don't really rate the album that high anyway, it doesn't really say much for the song.

Posted by: J▼hnkm Sep 9 2015, 04:16 PM

Fire Under My Feet should be last. A total non started melodically and hook wise, but even worse to waste the little goodwill and hype she had surrounding her 'comeback' with THAT reheated tripe is surely going to be the last nail in her (commercial) coffin.

Posted by: Envoirment Sep 9 2015, 04:27 PM

I still somewhat cringe at the "I Will Be" video. Leona's acting is alright I guess, but the ending with her in handcuffs/playing the bad girl I can never take seriously. laugh.gif

Posted by: JosephBieber Sep 9 2015, 06:45 PM

Lovebird gets a hard time I think sad.gif It's not THAT bad. Fire Under My Feet is just messy though and never properly clicked, should've been last.

Posted by: Joe. Sep 9 2015, 06:47 PM

15th: Hurt
Average: 7

Happy; Insomnio (11), Karma (10), Ryan. (9.5),
Trouble; mr_pmt (2), *Tim (2),

Okay, so technically this wasn’t a single, but it’s performance on X factor had a huge impact and it managed to chart top 10, so I couldn’t not include it in the rate. I think her performance of this was stunning and I’ve always enjoyed her cover - I think this should have been a couple of places higher in the rate, but I’m glad it managed a 7 average...

Posted by: J▲hq Sep 9 2015, 06:48 PM

Poor Lovebird :/ Sure the album had better but I think it's a lovely song that didn't deserve to be anywhere near the bottom.

Posted by: mr_pmt Sep 9 2015, 06:52 PM

Her cover of 'Hurt' is abysmal. Flat, empty, devoid of any emotion or redeeming qualities. I was too generous giving it a 2.

Posted by: JosephBieber Sep 9 2015, 07:22 PM

I love the Hurt cover heart.gif Quite underrated I think!

Posted by: Dmdr Sep 9 2015, 07:36 PM

I love Hurt too but I think that's mostly down to her vocals on the last couple of minutes of the song.

Posted by: Lukuzz Sep 9 2015, 07:41 PM

FUMF should have did slightly better. Did I vote in this?

I wouldn't necessarily agree that it's devoid of any emotion. I interpret it as she's emotionally numb when she's in her lower register and then as the song builds and builds, the emotion starts to be expressed.

Posted by: Envoirment Sep 9 2015, 07:43 PM

I like her cover of "Hurt". Especially the ending where her voice just soars. Can't believe what she can do on just one breath! Just listening to the long sustained notes at the end makes me gasp for breath. laugh.gif Her X-factor performance was great, but I prefer her performance of it on the royal variety performance she did:

I also love how it displays her lower register in the studio version, but unfortunately she wasn't able to fully replicate them live (well she did - but they were much quieter). Given how light her voice is though, it's impressive she can go that low! cheer.gif

Posted by: Karma Sep 9 2015, 07:47 PM

Love Hurt. POWERFUL.

Posted by: Joe. Sep 9 2015, 08:17 PM

Sorry I haven't got time to do anymore tonight - but I'll make sure to do 3 or 4 more results tomorrow! What do you all thing will fall next?

Remaining songs:

A Moment Like This
Bleeding Love
Better In Time
Footprints in the Sand
Forgive Me
Run
Happy
I Got You
Collide
Trouble
One More Sleep
I Am
I See You
Thunder

Hurt is absolutely tragic and never should've seen the light of the day, btu I Will Be is amazing and deserves more

Posted by: Jaÿ Sep 9 2015, 11:02 PM

Aww, I Will Be is too low!

Posted by: burbe Sep 10 2015, 03:18 AM

I'm surprised to see FUMF so low! Not so much the other three.

Posted by: Joe. Sep 10 2015, 09:31 AM

14th: I Am
Average: 7.13

Happy; hopehere (9), american oxygen. (9),Juranamo (9), Dmdr (9), Soeplepel (9), Envoirment (9), LuukLewis (9), Breakaway (9), Jonjo (9)
Trouble; tintin (0), LeeWallace (3), *Tim (3), J▲hq (4), Scene (5), burbe (5.5)

Another single from I Am charting quite low here. It’s a shame because I think ‘I Am’ is a lovely song and better than ‘Thunder’ or ‘Fire Under My Feet’. Though, again, I think there were much better options for a single. ‘I Am’ gets no 10s or 11s but manages a respectable amount of 9s. Annoyingly there is no video for this yet, but I’ll edit it in as soon as we eventually have one.

Posted by: Joe. Sep 10 2015, 09:36 AM

A slight more of a shocker out next. Any guesses?

Posted by: J▼hnkm Sep 10 2015, 10:06 AM

Trouble or Forgive Me are my guesses.

Posted by: Joe. Sep 10 2015, 10:57 AM

13th: Trouble
Average: 7.3

Happy; April (10), HausEveryWeekend (10), Jade (10), Insomnio (9.5)
Trouble; tintin (2), Ultraviolence1989 (3),bartsimpson (3), Pes (5)

And just like that, Glassheart loses all its singles. Poor ‘Trouble’, I really did like it at the time but for me there was something missing that I think didn’t quite connect with audiences. Loads of people do love it though, I think it would have made a great 4th or 5th single but for a lead single, maybe not. There are two versions of the song, a solo version and then one with (the also rather hot) rapper-turned actor Childish Gambino, more commonly known now as Donald Glover who’s recently been in Magic Mike XXL and The Martian. I personally prefer the rap version, as I think it adds a bit of intensity to the track, what do you all prefer?

Posted by: J▼hnkm Sep 10 2015, 11:00 AM

To be fair, that is about what it deserves. It's an ok song, but when you compare it to her other lead singles (yes, even Happy) it just sounds really bland.

Posted by: Scene Sep 10 2015, 11:08 AM

I like the artwork, the video and the rap version of 'Trouble' but Emeli really did give a Leona a bit of a dud (although the original unreleased version may be far better).

Posted by: Liаm Sep 10 2015, 11:16 AM

Trouble is good, solid, but far from her best... I really like the Hurt cover. Not her absolute best but her vocals on it are insane, I guess it helps that (blasphemy!!11!) I never cared for the original or Johnny Cash versions personally.

I'm not a fan of the original but I like JC's version (not that I'd listen to it out of choice or anything). I think what's good about NIN, Johnny Cash and Leona all doing versions of the song is that they all offer different takes on it. I think some will prefer the context of Cash's version while others will be more moved by the vocals of Leona's.

Posted by: Karma Sep 10 2015, 01:59 PM

I actually love I Am, so good. Big shame radio (R1, Heart, Capital & Kiss - the essential stations for a hit) aren't backing it. huh.gif

Trouble is also really good. Think could build a bit more to a bigger moment but still great!

Posted by: Envoirment Sep 10 2015, 02:16 PM

"I Am" is a beautiful song, love the production.

Really like the rap that Childish Gambino added to "Trouble" - felt just right and not rent-a-rapper like.

Posted by: mr_pmt Sep 10 2015, 02:24 PM

The NIN version of 'Hurt' is ultimate. wub.gif

'Trouble' whilst not an amazing song is strong enough, and I thought it sounded like a big hit. I really think a big part of its underperformance was due to her generally starting to fall out of favour at that point.

Also I always hear her sing "you should never fondle me" in the chorus. laugh.gif Never been able to hear anything else!

As we get ever closer to the top 10, the song that kicked it all off enters at #12. ‘A Moment Like This’ had also been used as Kelly Clarkson’s winner’s single. I change my mind on which version I prefer, because I love both artists, but ultimately neither are either artist’s best work. It's certainly one of the better winners singles from X Factor, if not the best - but it's also served up with a bit of cheese which isn't entirely Leona's style.

Posted by: Joe. Sep 10 2015, 03:02 PM

Which song JUST missed the top 10?

Posted by: Insomnio Sep 10 2015, 03:48 PM

"Hurt" is one of the most gripping performances that I've heard in my whole fuc*ing life. Everybody should appreaciate it.

Why on earth was this album only? This would surely have been another hit for Leona, what with Avatar being the most watched film EVER. ‘I See You’ is a brilliant and powerful ballad and worked really well with the film. So it’s a shame it’s so overlooked in her discography and a further shame that it peaks at just #11 here.

Posted by: J▼hnkm Sep 10 2015, 05:15 PM

I don't think it's THAT good a song, but not giving that any kind of push was just ludicrous. You don't get the soundtrack song to the BIGGEST MOVIE EVER and then just DO NOTHING WITH IT. Fools.

Posted by: Jaÿ Sep 10 2015, 06:41 PM

It was extremely bizarre that they didn't release it properly! They really messed up there.

Posted by: mr_pmt Sep 10 2015, 06:53 PM

I prefer Kelly Clarkson's version of 'A Moment Like This', (I'm sounding like a broken record at this point) she connects with it better and Leona's sounds more obviously rush recorded. If I'm being realistic about it though, it's not a great song and Kelly's version just happens to be a guilty pleasure of mine from back in the day.

'I See You' probably could have been a top 5 hit for her if they'd bothered.

Posted by: J▲hq Sep 10 2015, 06:58 PM

'I Am' is so dull and monotonous imo. 'Trouble' is good but comes off a little too subtle maybe and there are a couple of points where I struggle to understand her.

Yay for 'Forgive Me' top 10!

Posted by: Envoirment Sep 10 2015, 07:03 PM

"A Moment Like This" is nice. Will hopefully become a million seller for Leona in the future (it's on 910k at the moment, so still a while to go).

"I See You" was a big mess. It was due to Atlantic records though - they owned the rights to the song and such. Big mistake not to release it... Could've become a small-moderate hit worldwide.

Posted by: Scene Sep 10 2015, 08:00 PM

I'll never forgive Syco for being so catastrophically stupid with not releasing 'I See You'. At that point in Leona's career, it could've easily been a top 10 single for her around the world. Avatar being the highest-grossing movie of all time wouldn't have exactly hindered its chances. Anyway, #11 is far too low for this - especially with IGY, 'Collide' and 'Better in Time' still to come.

Posted by: Dmdr Sep 10 2015, 08:20 PM

I See You deserved a Top 10 spot!

Posted by: ḇreakaway Sep 11 2015, 08:31 AM

James Cameron wanted I See You to be treated like My Heart Will Go On but I think SyCo were too busy contemplating how to jeopardise Echo's release.

Posted by: Joe. Sep 11 2015, 08:49 AM

10th: Forgive Me
Average: 7.7

Happy; Juranamo (11), J▲hq (11), Cameron (10), *Tim (10), Ryan. (9.5), Joe (9.5)
Trouble; LeeWallace (0), bartsimpson (4)

Making the top 10 by the skin of its teeth is a personal favourite of mine. I like that ‘Forgive Me’ was a bit of a change in pace of Leona, as it celebrated a more light-hearted pop-RnB side of her. It’s a major bop for a few of us as it brings in some high scores and it performed moderately well in the chart - it was a top 5 hit and spent 3 consecutive weeks in the top 10, something that Leona has not managed to do for a long time... I find this to be one of the more underrated songs in her discography and really wish she'd make more songs in the style.

Posted by: J▼hnkm Sep 11 2015, 08:54 AM

Thank goodness for that, it's just so limp and boring. Thank goodness she had Run to come after this or her downfall could have been even faster.

Posted by: Joe. Sep 11 2015, 01:04 PM

9th: Thunder
Average: 7.86

Happy; Soeplepel (10), Adam92 (10), ḇreakaway (9.5), Krusty111 (9.5), burbe (9.5), Envoirment (9.5),Scene (9.5)
Trouble; tintin (2), mr_pmt (5), Joe (5)

I have to say, I’m quite baffled this got as high as it is. For me, it’s certainly not anywhere near the quality of the surrounding songs. But I’m clearly in the minority as ‘Thunder’ comfortably makes the top 10, meaning the I Am singles are now out. ‘Thunder’ has been pushed as US single, and though it isn’t quite taking off, there is a lot of good will around the song from fans.

Posted by: Scene Sep 11 2015, 02:14 PM

I prefer the Labyrinth Tour arrangement of 'Forgive Me' to the single version.

The music video is one of her best though.

Posted by: Ultraviolence1989 Sep 11 2015, 02:25 PM

How is thunder so high?

Posted by: mr_pmt Sep 11 2015, 02:39 PM

I enjoy 'Forgive Me', but it is pretty much just a lesser carbon copy of 'The Sweet Escape'.

'Thunder' I can't really get into, I find it bland and her voice is really whiny on it.

Posted by: Joe. Sep 11 2015, 03:14 PM

8th: Footprints in the Sand
Average: 7.93

Trouble; Cameron (-1)

Cue powerful X Factor background music. ‘Footprints in the Sand’ was released as a double A side with ‘Better In Time’ at a time when the digital age was becoming more prominent, so it didn’t quite work, as people took to ‘Better In Time’ a lot more. But I feel like this has actually stood the test of time just as much as ‘Better In Time’, as it’s become a TV VT staple. It's a very powerful song, and something I class as iconic Leona.

Posted by: *Tim Sep 11 2015, 03:22 PM

Forgive me is rather fabulous and I never knew I See You was on the soundtrack of Avatar?! How stupid to not release it goddamn

Posted by: Ultraviolence1989 Sep 11 2015, 03:36 PM

Footprints in the sand is easily one of my favourite Leona tracks, stunningly beautiful heart.gif

Posted by: Dmdr Sep 11 2015, 04:14 PM

Her Dancing on Ice performance of it is one of my favourite Leona performances.

Posted by: Envoirment Sep 11 2015, 04:15 PM

I love "Forgive Me" wub.gif

I love "Thunder" even more though, it's already got over 500 plays from me so far. kink.gif

"Footprints In The Sand" is just stunning. Her live performances on tour in 2013 were just amazing.

Posted by: Jonjo Sep 11 2015, 04:33 PM

'Footprints' gets far too much schtick usually. So I'm glad to see it being slightly more appreciated here. Such a gorgeous song. Very happy with what's left to come. 'I Got You' being this high is pleasing to see! ohmy.gif Beautiful song. 'Better In Time' was always my favourite from 'Spirit' when I first listened to it, so I'm very glad to see that is still to come. The single mix is beautiful.

Posted by: J▼hnkm Sep 11 2015, 06:05 PM

Footprints is schmaltzy and old fashioned, but THOSE VOX are just undeniable. It's just a fantastic ballad, sang brilliantly, what more could you want.

‘Collide’ is just another Leona song that should have been huge, but wasn’t. I actually think if this had been released a year later it would have done a lot better as a lot people knew who Avicii was by then. Slightly ahead of it’s time, but a banger all the same. It’s a shame there aren’t more songs like this in Leona’s discography. Much loved by Buzzjack Collide scores just under an 8 average, with some top scores and loads of 9s. But a silly amount of 6s from crazy people stop this from getting too close to the top 5.

Posted by: Joe. Sep 13 2015, 11:00 AM

So we have Bleeding Love, Better In Time, Run, Happy, I Got You, One More Sleep. Which song just missed out on the top 5?

Posted by: LeeWallace Sep 13 2015, 02:48 PM

Cameron -1 'Footprints In The Sand'? WHAT THE f***.

'Collide' would have done better has it been released a week or two later.

Posted by: ḇreakaway Sep 13 2015, 04:17 PM

Footprints in the Sand is so beautiful; you have to experience it live to really appreciate it.

SyCo messing up the sampling of Avicii's Penguin is what led to the song's criminal under-performance; it really would have been the rebirth that Happy failed to fuel.

Posted by: Liаm Sep 13 2015, 04:24 PM

Forgive Me is so underrated, love it <3 Footprints is brilliant too, I'm a sucker for a big ballad like that. Collide is very good, easily the best thing Avicii has ever done but there is NO competition at all for that tbf.

Posted by: JosephBieber Sep 13 2015, 05:19 PM

A Moment Like This and Thunder should swap at the very least imo, and then we'd have the perfect top 10 I think!

Posted by: Scene Sep 13 2015, 09:13 PM

IGY and BIT will hopefully be out next. Vanilla is too nice a description for them.

Posted by: Insomnio Sep 13 2015, 09:49 PM

Collide should have been No.1 for weeks. I can't believe that it peaked at No.4.. nocheer.gif

Posted by: J▼hnkm Sep 13 2015, 10:50 PM

Collide is so limp. Outta My Head proved Leona can do an amazing uptempo, but that is just lifeless and dull and was a terrible single.

Posted by: Joe. Sep 14 2015, 09:36 AM

FINAL 6 TONIGHT, so stick around. I'll be throwing out the song that sadly missed the top 6 like Beyonce at any point today.

Just because there is a new ‘I Got You’ in town, let's not forget about this. As much as some people see this as a song that under-performed, it peaked at #14 and spent 6 weeks in the top 40, which is very decent for a post-album track. I’m glad ‘I Got You’ has done as well as this, because I still think it’s a stunning song - lots of you seem to agree as it becomes the first single in the rate to make an 8 average. heart.gif

I do like it, but they made a HUGE mistake releasing it over 'Outta My Head' (and I'll always slightly resent it because of that).

Let's not forget the director's cut of the I Got You video heart.gif

Posted by: J▼hnkm Sep 14 2015, 01:44 PM

I Got You was a big step up from the limp Happy, but it really should have been Outta My Head. It's by far the best uptempo track she has done (and is ever likely to do) and at that time there was enough goodwill and hype behind her that 'oh look Leona can do a good uptempo' would probably have been rather helpful for her career.

This was the start of Syco REALLY messing up Leona's career. In my opinion it is the weakest track on Echo and 'Outta My Head' being the second single would've been a no-brainer for any other record company - especially after the short success of 'Happy'.

It wouldn't have been so bad if Syco had at least pushed a 3rd and 4th single from Echo, who chooses to wrap up an album campaign that has sold close to 700,000 copies because the second single doesn't take off? She had at least a couple more moderate hits on there.

True. The thing is IGY didn't even do that bad. It was a post-album single that charted at #14 and sold over 100,000 copies in the UK. Cheryl's post-album single 'The Flood' only made #18 and probably sold less a year or so later and no one was screaming flop at her. Sadly, for Leona, due to her monster success a year or two prior, anything less than top 10 would have been seen as a huge under-performance at the point of IGY's release. I think it was also "only" C-Listed by Radio 1 most likely due to its blandness. If OMH was released as the second single, I think it would've been a definite top 10 for her at least in the UK. It would have breathed fresh life into a campaign that was already on its last legs by February 2010.

Yeah its all true, I think OMH followed by Naked would have been great. I love Naked.

Edit: Oh wait, I forgot about Can't Breathe...ok she needed 5 singles from Echo. Haha

Unforgivable. And you say the same about Collide and Happy too? I'm out.

Right song to just miss the top 5. Hope we aren't in for a Bleeding Love win.

To be fair on Cheryl though, 'The Flood' also marked the end of the campaign for Messy Little Raindrops!

From the songs that actually made Echo, I would have gone:

1. Happy
2. Outta My Head
3. Naked
4. Don't Let Me Down (feat. Justin Timberlake) - I don't care if he only does backing vocals on this, giving him a credit in the title would've helped.
5. Can't Breathe

I know 'Happy' didn't exactly help Leona's career commercially (in fact it most likely hindered it) but I have so much love for the song (and video) that I couldn't imagine it being anything other than the lead single. If Syco included 'Scene of the Crime' on the album, that should've been the second worldwide single. But, again, it was another almighty cock-up from Syco.

Posted by: Acidburn Sep 14 2015, 03:20 PM

Yes I totally agree "Outta My Head" should have been the 2nd single, here's what the era should have been =

01. Can't Breathe
02. Outta My Head
03. Happy
04. Naked
05. I Got You or Stop Crying Your Heart Out

5th: Happy
Average: 8.56

Happy; hopehere (11), bartsimpson (11), Leonagwen (11), Scene (11), Slick (10), Ultraviolence1989 (10), Jay (9.5), Joe (10), Liаm (10), J▲hq (10), LuukLewis (10), Froot. (10), Ryan. (10), cowboystyle (10), Insomnio (10), tintin (10), Adam92 (9.5), JosephStyles (9.5)

When I first heard ‘Happy’ it was so instant to me, in fact I still remember being disappointed that Black Eyed Peas beat her to number 1. It isn’t quite as good, but I felt ‘Happy’ should have been almost as big as ‘Bleeding Love’, it’s such a powerful and emotive song with a huge chorus. The only negative I have about ‘Happy’ is its artwork. In fact, none of the echo artwork was to my liking.

Another amazing single from Leona, ‘Better In Time’ was the other half of ‘Footprints in the Sand’ and the much bigger hit at the time. It was nominated for the ‘Best British Single’ Brit Award and holds a silver certification. ‘Better In Time’ manages an average of 8.75, making it so close to the top 3, but being pushed down by just a handful of low scores.

Posted by: mr_pmt Sep 14 2015, 05:49 PM

I always preferred 'Better In Time' to 'Bleeding Love'.

Posted by: Karma Sep 14 2015, 05:49 PM

I Got You is nice, but thats its nice. Never should of been a single and really doesn't represent the EPICNESS of Echo.

Love Better in Time, such a great song, as is Happy. heart.gif

3rd: One More Sleep
Average: 8.9

Happy; Adam92 (11), April (11), Ultraviolence1989 (10), Jay (10), Joe (10), burbe (10), Envoirment (10), Scene (10), tintin (10), Dmdr (10), Krusty111 (10), Leonagwen (10), Juranamo (10), Acidburn (10), hopehere (10), Cameron (10)
Trouble; (Zach) (5)

I’m so pleased this made it into the top 3… ‘One More Sleep’ aside from being a simple, well crafted and catchy seasonal number is proof that with the right song, and when the promotional campaign is executed correctly, there is be evident interest in Leona. ‘One More Sleep’ was getting decent airplay from Heart and Radio 2 and entered the chart at 34. However, after the X-Factor performance ‘One More Sleep’ skyrocketed into the top 10 on iTunes, which had a knock on effect of Radio 1, Capital and other stations picking up the song, meaning the song spent the next two weeks at #3. Also helped by a full week of solid promotion. ‘One More Sleep’, despite having lots of odds against it, managed to spend an additional 3 weeks in the UK top 100 in the next year. Christmas is growing ever closer, so I’m hoping we can out-do last year’s #80 peak. heart.gif

Run or Bleeding Love?

Winner: 9.80
Runner up: 9.77

'Happy' only 5th? What a mess. laugh.gif I absolutely love the artwork. It's classic diva. I'm glad BIT didn't finish in the top 3. I should've given it a -1 in hindsight since I just never ever play it. Glad OMS finished top 3. It has the makings of a Christmas classic and hopefully in years to come it will still be getting regular airplay each December. With Leona's rather high profile this year, I hope OMS sneaks into the top 40 although that may be asking too much. kink.gif

I hope 'Run' wins out of the two. And I think it may actually do so.

So Leona’s biggest and most known hit is #2 here. ‘Bleeding Love’ is one of my all time favourite songs. It is just so infectious and I will never tire of it. It was the first ever X-Factor big hit beyond winners songs and managed to go to number 1 in America of all places. ‘Bleeding Love’ is also, deservedly, a million seller. I, personally wanted this to win and it was very close - but the winner clinched it with more 11s!

That’s right, ‘Run’ is the Leona Singles Rate 2015 winner! ‘Run’ had an interesting journey as a single. In the first instance it was simply a Snow Patrol live lounge cover that Leona performed, just as many artists do. The cover was instantly requested huge amounts which lead to Radio 1 adding it to their playlist (The only time I’ve ever known of where Radio 1 add a live lounge cover to their playlist). The song was then added to the re-issue of Spirit and rushed to number 1 with the help of a spellbinding X Factor performance. I would have preferred a song that’s not a cover to win, but the majority has spoken and ‘Run’ is Buzzjack’s most popular Leona single!

Posted by: LeeWallace Sep 14 2015, 07:05 PM

bleeding love as the run video *.*

Posted by: Dmdr Sep 14 2015, 07:26 PM

Run really should have had a worldwide push imo, it did amazingly well in Germany but sadly it never saw a proper release in most territories.

Its a shame they pushed I Will Be in America over this.

Posted by: mr_pmt Sep 14 2015, 07:46 PM

'Bleeding Love' was definitely the right song at the right time for the right person, it is a great song but she does have better for me.

'Run' is also not her best for me, but I think it's a great cover. She totally put her own stamp on it.

Posted by: J▼hnkm Sep 14 2015, 09:00 PM

YAAAS

Run is a thousand times the song and performance of Bleeding Love so a totally deserved winner.

'Run' is really special. It's EXTREMELY rare to find a cover song that's just as good as the original (the original is in my top 5 songs of all time), more specifically by a manufactured pop artist. She really elevates 'Run' to a WHOLE different world and puts her own stamp on it! Amazing and thoroughly deserved top 4 all around!

I wish 'I Got You' had made top 5, but I'm not too dissatisfied with it's finishing position as I fully expected it to be a good 4-5 places lower! The other thing that completely messed up that release was how the music video wasn't released until the Friday before or during release or something, so TV had NOTHING to play! They really messed up and the fact it got to #14 on such little airplay (not sure if it built throughout once the video had prem'd or whatever) but I think it could've gone low top 10 had they executed the release of the video better!

What an amazingly presented countdown. wub.gif Thank you Joe <3

Ohh I didn't know this. And back in 2009/2010 TV airplay played a bigger part in the charts than they do now.
