Jessica Mauboy - We Got Love

Posted by: Styles Bilinski 8th December 2017, 01:59 AM

Broadcaster SBS have announced that Australia's Eurovision act for 2018 will be unveiled much earlier than the past few years - this coming Monday, 11th December to be exact!

Posted by: Liаm 8th December 2017, 02:04 AM

Omgggg

Nervous tbh, after the horrendous misfire last yewr I'm hoping for someone good but I haven't even seen rumours!

*yearly please be Ricki-Lee, Delta, Veronicas or Jess Mauboy post*
*ends up being some dullard who came 4th on The Voice*

Posted by: LexC 8th December 2017, 12:51 PM

Well from what I've heard Isaiah was a 'oh well we're fighting for second place anyway lets not try very hard' after Italy got confirmed (THE FOOLS) so I'm hoping this one will be a little bit more of an effort from the Aussies.

Posted by: Ryan. 8th December 2017, 05:54 PM

Ricki-Lee is currently top rumour after following various BBC and SBS Eurovision accounts!

Posted by: Cameron 8th December 2017, 06:52 PM

Samantha Jade 2 make her debut

(I want the Veronicas so badly)

I will also settle for Dami being Australia's Valentina with numerous appearances

Posted by: LexC 8th December 2017, 07:54 PM

OMG do not tell Liam it's Ricki-Lee he'll FLIP

Posted by: Liаm 8th December 2017, 09:27 PM

OMGGGGGG

Posted by: Liаm 8th December 2017, 09:32 PM

I am not entirely sober rn and freaking out

Posted by: 5 Silas Frøkner 8th December 2017, 11:25 PM

If it's someone actually halfway decent I'm going to change all my plans and actually go to Lisbon because seeing Dami Im was life affirming.

Posted by: Martyn 9th December 2017, 12:13 PM

Ricki-Lee, Jessica Mauboy, Samantha Jade or The Veronica’s please.

Also acceptable Tina Arena or Vanessa Amorosi.

Posted by: PAJ88 9th December 2017, 10:16 PM

We've gone with

2015 - Male
2016 - Female
2017 - Male
2018 - ??

Add in 2014 where Jessica Mauboy sang without competing and that continues the trend.

My money would be on Samantha Jade or Delta Goodrem, I think they tend to go with acts signed to Sony Music Australia.

Posted by: Ryan. 9th December 2017, 10:56 PM

Good point, the main thing tuning the Ricki-Lee rumour is the fact she isn’t signed to Sony according to what I’ve read. Wouldn’t be surprised to see Jessica, would love Delta but not sure I can see her happening while she still has commitments with The Voice. Samantha’s possible but not sure she has the wow factor.

I’m expecting a biggish name at the fame of Dami Im, I’d predict Jess at this stage in the game as her Secret Daughter TV show has been on recently so she’s firmly in the public eye and she has a long awaited new studio album to promote next year.

Posted by: 5 Silas Frøkner 9th December 2017, 11:05 PM

The Live shows for The Voice don't typically start until June so it's feasible for Delta to be involved.

Posted by: Mikee1981 11th December 2017, 06:48 AM

it is Jessica Mauboy

Posted by: 5 Silas Frøkner 11th December 2017, 07:13 AM

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

*sings This is what Dreams are made of front the Lizzie Maguire movie*

Posted by: gooddelta 11th December 2017, 07:24 AM

Brilliant choice! It was bound to happen eventually.

Posted by: Cameron 11th December 2017, 09:06 AM

Yas!!!

Posted by: Martyn 11th December 2017, 09:16 AM

Ahhhh! I am so pleased Jessica is finally doing this!

Posted by: AdamAloud 11th December 2017, 10:03 AM

Ready for the battle of the Buzzfaves between her and Saara ohmy.gif 2018 shaping up to be a fab year!

Posted by: Liаm 11th December 2017, 10:13 AM

YAAAASSSS

Even better than ricki tbh, and had to happen after Sea Of Flags really! omggggg

Posted by: Martyn 11th December 2017, 10:26 AM

I do hope that it’s more Inescapable than Finally though. Give us the pop banger Jess!

Posted by: Lenny 11th December 2017, 10:30 AM

This is a big name for them - but she didn't exactly sound great on her "Sea Of Flags" performance.

Posted by: Liаm 11th December 2017, 10:33 AM

That was probably the worst I've ever heard her oops, she's usually far more dependable as a live performer!

She'd be amazing with either a huge pop banger, a ballad or a midtempo, she's such a versatile artist and of my fave songs by her all 3 of those styles are represented a few times! I'm so here for a pop banger though!

Posted by: 5 Silas Frøkner 11th December 2017, 11:10 AM

Sea Of Flags wasn’t a vintage performance for anyone involved.

She usually kills it. And now that she’s done Sea of Flags that should reduces some pressure on her as she’s gone out to fly the flag at Eurovision before.

I wonder if the reveal is early to try and break Jess into the European Markets?

Posted by: Liаm 11th December 2017, 11:12 AM

Sea Of Flags, whilst I like it enough, is probably her worst single as well laugh.gif

Posted by: Cameron 11th December 2017, 11:24 AM

As long as she doesn’t have a Don’t Come Easy semi final vocal performance she will be fine

Posted by: Alex! 11th December 2017, 12:01 PM

The fact we have Jessica and Sara Alto. LIVING for ESC18 already!

Ohgosh pls no

Posted by: Liаm 13th December 2017, 05:27 PM

Been listening to a lt of her stuff again recently, so excited!!! I wouldn't be surprised if they gave her a sassy R&B type song a bit like her song Can I Get A Moment, as they seem to be pushing her more down the R&B route with Fallin' and a lot of the Secret Daghter stuff. That's a bit closer to Tonight Again that Guy sang though and they're gonna go different again as they have with all the artists, a pop banger is deffo in order. I can totally imagine her with something like Where I Am that Anja sang last year but I don't think that would be the best chance for success laugh.gif With a power ballad she'd just be compared to Dami and she doesn't have that power (not many singers do tbf!!), I think performance wise she needs a pop banger or sassy R&B sort of song, with the latter she really shines but the pop bangers are her best songs in general.

Posted by: Lenny 13th December 2017, 05:36 PM

I think after 2 years of ballads (one powerful, one more subtle) they're likely to go upbeat as well.

Listening to the 7th Heaven Remix of Isaiah's entry, that sounds like it would've been a much better version to send than the one they did which - while sounding great on record - fell so flat at the contest, especially with his decision to improvise in that semi (ouch!) laugh.gif

Posted by: Mikee1981 2nd March 2018, 09:44 AM

A lot of activity on Jessica's twitter, facebook and insta... We Got Love , seems to be the title

Posted by: Cameron 2nd March 2018, 11:14 AM

It's basically confirmed! Dami has posted it on hers too

Posted by: LexC 2nd March 2018, 12:06 PM

Please be a banger please be a banger please be a banger

Posted by: Liаm 3rd March 2018, 03:26 AM

It IS a banger, Joel Creasy (SBS' commentator) has heard and confirmed *.* So excited, Jess is coming to aid Eleni in saving the gays from such a mediocre year.

Posted by: 5 Silas Frøkner 3rd March 2018, 08:01 AM

If it's 85% as good as her recent bangers then we're in for a treat! I can't wait to hear it

Posted by: Cameron 3rd March 2018, 10:33 AM

YES!!! This is what we need. I hope its a proper pop song she can nail live

Posted by: Martyn 3rd March 2018, 11:22 AM

I am so glad this is apparently a banger. I could take some of the more R'n'B elements of her albums, but I wouldn't be here for the country stuff she has been peddling from The Secret Daughter (Spoiler alert it's not a secret anymore).

Posted by: Liаm 3rd March 2018, 01:53 PM

Yeah the Secret Daughter stuff was nice enough but it would have been a real misfire as it feels very much like her character in that rather than herself, now its been cancelled though I guess it makes sense that she is going back to her older stuff. I did have a feeling it would be a banger as Australia already did the funky vibe with Guy Sebastian and two ballads in a row with Dami and Isaiah and that covers her other main bases laugh.gif

Posted by: Midge 3rd March 2018, 10:50 PM

Excited to hear this! When do we get it?

Posted by: Cameron 3rd March 2018, 10:56 PM

I'll assume Monday going from last years date, but don't quote me

Posted by: LexC 4th March 2018, 02:49 PM

Confirmed to be from the same songwriters as ‘Sound of Silence’ and ‘Wings’ (and Don’t Come Easy too but we’re gonna forget about that). I think this is going to be going big!

Posted by: Liаm 4th March 2018, 03:05 PM

Omg come thru Jess, I am gonna need an ambulance on standby for when she inevtiably snatches my wig, consciousness and life with this

Posted by: 5 Silas Frøkner 4th March 2018, 03:39 PM

Thank f*** I'm working from home tomorrow so no one will have to witness my Stan meltdown.

Posted by: Midge 4th March 2018, 05:13 PM

No need to forget about "Don't Come Easy" - it sounded great on record and particularly when remixed by 7th Heaven - I think that version would've been much better for Eurovision. His live SF performance however was hilarious, and otherwise it was dull and flat live really but that doesn't stop it being a decent song.

Looking forward to this!

Posted by: Liаm 4th March 2018, 05:26 PM

Don't Come Easy was like a Sam Smith song, so I think I will rather forget about it, especially his "vocals"

Posted by: Midge 4th March 2018, 05:33 PM

But THAT NOTE is so worth remembering laugh.gif

Posted by: JosephSprayberry 4th March 2018, 05:34 PM

I think people are just going off last year's reveal date - there's been no official confirmation when the entry will be revealed.

Posted by: Midge 5th March 2018, 05:27 PM

No reveal yet then... I'm trying to get my Aussie friend into Eurovision this year (he already loves "Monsters" without realising it's the Finnish entry!) - I really really hope Jess has a big bangaroo!

Posted by: ionderella 5th March 2018, 09:36 PM

you sure?

Posted by: ionderella 5th March 2018, 09:39 PM

it's really good but nothing special tbh. the verses build up so well but the chorus and bridge could've been absolutely f***ing HUGE

Posted by: 5 Silas Frøkner 5th March 2018, 09:45 PM

!!!!!!!!!

I am so completely and utterly here for this. f*** Sea of Flags, this is a proper banger for the Eurovision stage.

Couple of notes toward the end that she will absolutely rock on stage. I really hope she does well. I want her to do what Dami should have done and use this as a stage to break through into the European market. She’s too good to stay in Australia forever

Posted by: Cameron 5th March 2018, 09:48 PM

This could do with a tiny tweak on the production of the chorus but it is bloody incredible

Posted by: Liаm 5th March 2018, 09:50 PM

I'M CRYING THIS IS SO GOOD

I love the way it builds, I wouldn't say banger but it's so good and she'll slay this live. It's so her, I was wondering what style she'd go down for this but it's come out as something so representative of her!

Posted by: LexC 5th March 2018, 09:54 PM

There’s word that this version is actually the ‘rough cut’ that the Aussie commentator heard which is semi believable given it goes past the three minute mark. But even then, this is a great foundation to work from.

Posted by: Alex! 5th March 2018, 09:56 PM

This is the BOP I needed from Jessica.

finland, cyprus, australia and azerbaijan (to an extent) coming through!

Posted by: Cameron 5th March 2018, 09:58 PM

Hoping the rest of the remaining songs are of a good standard to push down the meh

Posted by: Liаm 5th March 2018, 09:58 PM

Oh my God if this is just the demo idk what I'm gonna do with the full one I'm acc crying

I wonder where all these leaks are coming from though? laugh.gif

I’m glad I heard it when I did. It’s gone now.

Posted by: Liаm 5th March 2018, 10:25 PM

Omg I've still got the YT upload loaded on my phone so I'm milking it for now

Posted by: Ryan. 5th March 2018, 11:13 PM

I'd be surprised if its only a demo, it's very easily 3 minutes when you cut off the last 20 seconds which aren't necessary. Very very good, Australia finally provide an amazing entry in studio form!

Posted by: Liаm 6th March 2018, 02:07 AM

This is my fave of the year, demo or not laugh.gif Ik that's a total blind stan thing to say but I am just so excited she's going to Eurovision and getting such a plaform (properly, rather than just performing Sea Of flags on the semi) bcause she's up there with Lady Gaga, Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood as an all time fave of mine wub.gif Plus it's been 3 years since we got a proper single from her that wasn't from The Secret Daughter!!

Completely agree. The chorus is kinda just there, a bit bland and too mid-tempo for me.

Posted by: Jerick 6th March 2018, 07:12 PM

This is the weakest song Australia have sent imo (looking away from Isaiah's live performance)

Posted by: Midge 6th March 2018, 07:15 PM

I got the Australian friend I'm staying with in Australia really excited about this - we listened together tonight and were so disappointed by how distinctly average it is sad.gif really quite monotonous, though not the worst entry by any means. Middle of the pack. Easily the weakest Australian entry to date (from first listen impressions).

Posted by: Martyn 7th March 2018, 09:53 AM

Officially released on Friday.

Posted by: Midge 8th March 2018, 01:18 PM

Official video is out - sounds better than the low quality demo we'd heard; think if she uses a bit of improvisation (Dami style, not Isaiah style) then it could do decently.

Posted by: Martyn 8th March 2018, 02:26 PM

Still love the song.

The video is very budget. I like the bits of her laying in the water but other parts where it’s zoomed out on the screen it looks like there are wires running across the floor.

Posted by: Liаm 8th March 2018, 02:29 PM

Ok I can acc say this is my fave now without sounding like a deranged loon as it's properly out kink.gif I thought that the other day's leak would just be the demo, it's not hugely different ofc but those little production flourishes make it feel more polished and ready for the stage. That last chorus wub.gif

Posted by: AdamAloud 8th March 2018, 03:03 PM

SuRie is SHOOK at that video concept.

My favourite Australian entry to date (in studio form), not a winner though.

Posted by: Umi 8th March 2018, 03:06 PM

Honestly, in a fairly weak year for winning contenders and with spectacular staging, I could see this being in with a shout.

Posted by: Liаm 8th March 2018, 03:08 PM

God knows what a mess I'd be if Jessica Mauboy won eurovision omfg I don't think it's a winner but it could easily do an If Love Was A Crime I think.

Posted by: Midge 8th March 2018, 03:11 PM

I think this will be lucky to come top 10 at the moment mellow.gif
Or even make the final ohmy.gif that's probably too drastic though.

Honestly, in a fairly weak year for winning contenders and with spectacular staging, I could see this being in with a shout.
I've just listened to this and messaged my friend saying this exact thing.

I think that we're going 2011 level this year. Consistently decent entries, but no particular standout, and we'll get a 'Running Scared' type victory (one with it's fans, but not particularly a fave with many people - if that makes sense).

And tbh, even with Sweden's choices, this is the first song I've come across this year that's given me that "Potential Winner" vibe. Not even 'Monsters' gave me this sort of vibe and just felt "potential winner" kinda by default coz it was one of few bangers at that point.

Posted by: BillyH 8th March 2018, 03:57 PM

There's no runaway favourite yet like there was with Italy this time last year, but that might be a good thing for the artists as the last few years have shown that early hype of one entry tends to fade as the rehearsals begin. ('Heroes' went against this trend by being consistantly popular from the moment people heard it, although it was still Il Volo who were the favourites this time three years ago as I don't think Mans had won Melodifestivalen yet).

Unless the last few countries left reveal something huge this could be a really open year.

Posted by: LexC 8th March 2018, 04:49 PM

I think of everything revealed so far, and apart from Aussies being at a slight televote disadvantage, I think this has got the least amount of things ‘wrong’ with it. Given Estonia’s a bit cold and distant, Finland’s probably going to be all wacko jacko, Belgium doesn’t really have a proper climax and although Bulgaria’s not out yet they’ve said they went with the riskier of their front runners so who knows what to expect there I can see a situation where this takes the win by accident.

Posted by: ScottyEm 8th March 2018, 06:04 PM

This is good if a little “text book”. It’s another top ten result although I think Australia will need to be a bit riskier if they want the prize. I agree, there is several for the win potentially. I do think Finland has the edge but the staging needs to be on another stratosphere.

Posted by: Jack 8th March 2018, 10:00 PM

This is absolutely stunning wub.gif I adore the message behind it at all, really backing this for a win.

Posted by: Iz 8th March 2018, 10:24 PM

It's an enjoyable pop song, sure. I don't think a winner though, it would have to be a really weak and un-hyped year in the end for something on this level to take it, and it doesn't scream something that only reveals its true popularity in the semis as a lot of recent contenders have. It's partially the same keyword that's doing it but I'm thinking more Greece 2017 than anything else.

Posted by: kye 9th March 2018, 12:07 AM

wow, you can always count on Jessica Mauboy to deliver a BOP. absolutely loving this - my fave so far wub.gif

Posted by: Cameron 4th June 2018, 11:07 AM

I think this would have done better if Jess and Saara weren't beside each other with similar tempo songs

Posted by: PaulM1983 4th June 2018, 11:37 AM

I can't get over this getting paid absolute dust in the vote. What is wrong with people? This is a solid gold banger.

Granted, her vocal on the night was not her best (and she looked like she'd been out on the lash for a week straight), but you can't deny the song. This was robbed.

Posted by: Midge 4th June 2018, 11:41 AM

I think realistically, Europe are reluctant to pick up the phone and vote for Australia - there are a lot of people who don't agree with them even being in the contest especially given they were supposed to be in for a one off (which most were fine with). Even Dami 'only' came 5th.

Though are we still pretending that Jess wasn't pretty poor vocally in the final?

Posted by: AdamAloud 4th June 2018, 12:20 PM

Her average televote rank was 16.95, and she didn't actually come last in any of the televotes (her lowest was 23rd in Azerbaijan, Cyprus, France and Italy) so it wasn't that no one voted for her, she just didn't get enough votes to push her into the top 10 and grab some points (she came 11th-15th in 13 countries).

At least she didn't have a televote disaster like Iceland, who managed less televotes than Azerbaijan in Armenia drama.gif

Posted by: Liаm 4th June 2018, 12:23 PM

I don't think it helped either that the two faves were uptempo female songs, like most people are only gonna vote for 1, maybe 2 songs, so that's probably where she ended up 11-15 in a lot of votes sadly sad.gif It's more liked than 9 televote points suggests but ofc that's just what happens when you're just outside points for a lot of people, no differnece between 11th or last.

While that is somewhat true I think if RUV didn't continuously f**k up the NF year after year we could have had something much better.
But still. Fókus, Aron Hannes, Dagur and EVEN Heimilistónar as a lolwtf entry >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Ari. Even if we were probably never going to Qualify with any of them.

Agree, it was just a shame about the song really but Ari was a brilliant representative, he got a lot of love thrown his way, he just needed a much better song.

But yes, back to the topic, I found We Got Love naff at best during the pre-season and that performance catapulted it to my 3rd favourite of the year. wub.gif
