I've not seen a thread anywhere about this so thought I'd start one. It aired in the US a few days ago and reveals the toxic culture on the set of Nickelodeon over the last 30 years. I've not yet watched it (not available to stream in UK yet) but have seen a lot of videos about it on YouTube. From what I've seen, it focuses on the predatory behaviour of Nickelodeon exec Dan Schneider who has now orchestrated an apology interview with one of his former child stars interviewing him!!

Then, Zoey 101 star Alexa Nikolas who has been campaigning for years about DS and the toxic culture, released a reaction video to that "apology". clap.gif to her for calling out his BS and the power dynamic in that interview.

It's all painting a really murky picture of what all these child stars had to endure. YouTube videos aren't exactly gospel truth but if the allegations are true about the Victorious set and the blackballing of Victoria Justice (which seem even more likely in light of this documentary), it makes me rethink the narratives that have been spun about the likes of Amanda Bynes etc. sad.gif

I just finished watching this today (need to remember to cancel my Discovery+ subscription via Prime before the month's out kink.gif). I knew Schneider was a bit dodgy, but seeing it all laid out like that was quite harrowing, I feel so bad for those kids and how much it still haunts their lives. The degrading of female members of staff is sadly unsurprising in the wake of #MeToo, but some of those supposed jokes getting on the air for shows aimed at kids is awful (and that's not even purely down to Schneider, the fact that execs and parents didn't say something to stop that is awful). I watched several of those shows like Zoey 101 and Drake & Josh growing up and I was oblivious at the time.

Drake Bell's story is the most shocking though, I won't spoil it if you're yet to watch but it definitely makes me see him in a whole, new tragic light given the pretty bad stuff he's done recently, but that's another level.

Yeah for even the parents to not speak up/turn a blind eye, it must have been such a hopelessly toxic situation for the kids to be in. sad.gif It's also so sad the likes of Alexa Nikolas and Jennette McCurdy had previously spoken up but weren't listened to until now. That monster needs to be in prison.
