Ouch!
Newcastle are going to absolutely OWN this league.
Especially with the signings they've made with Ritchie and Gayle.
Hard to believe Burton Albion are playing at this level. Although with Nigel Clough in charge they will struggle I woulda guess.
Impressive result for Fulham tonight. Newcastle looked very ordinary though.
The championship tends to swallow managers up - might happen to Rafa too - need a Chris Hughton or a kick McCarthy rather than a continental manager
Excited for today's game. Hopefully we'll be able to pull off a result.
A second loss in two games for Newcastle United and Rafa Bentiez. Dearie me.
So much for the odds on Newcastle going the whole season unbeaten. Newcastle to be relegated to league 1!
Leeds to flop in this league as always
Tis the problem with the Championship for relegated teams, it's a brutal league. Having said that I still fancy Toon to win the league when they get their asses in gear. I think a good number of the squad probably think they're better than the Championship so are going into games expecting to win which is never the way to approach any match.
Yeah, it's a terrible start for Newcastle and very unexpected due to how their team is full of quality players but I can't see them not winning the league still once they get used to it all.
I do hope they get promoted too, as someone who used to live in Newcastle, I do love it when the Toon, Boro and Sunderland are all in the same league
After three games, no team has a 100% record and Brighton are top on goal difference They seem to have learned a lesson from last season when they didn't win a game by more than one goal until well after Christmas.
Newcastle will be fine, you can lose 10 games in the Championship and still get promoted. Themselves and Norwich are the best teams on paper, but I would expect Brighton, Sheffield Wednesday and Huddersfield to push them close.

Ashton Gate is looking rather nice these days...
I'm pretty pleased with how we're doing at the moment. A 3-0 win over Norwich this time last season would make me spit my tea out but, although we're in a lower place than we were this time last year we look as though we could genuinely challenge for the play-offs.
Also, I'm absolutely delighted to see the scum/Villa playing badly. Please get relegated.
Very surprised at Huddersfield, I would have predicted a relegation battle for them. Early days I know...
Nigel Pearson has been suspended pending internal investigation. He was sent home from the hotel he was staying at just hours ago by the chairman ahead of tonight's game with Cardiff.
We've turned into a right mess
He's a horrible bast*rd Pearson!
More allegations today in the Telegraph regarding the Barnsley assistant manager, QPR manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and Cellino the Leeds owner:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/09/28/exclusive-the-corruption-at-the-top-of-the-championship/
So much for my theory that Pearson's comments about the lack of guaranteed commitment from his squad had something to do with his suspension..
From winning the Champions League with Chelsea back in 2012.
Four years on, Di Matteo has been sacked as manager of Aston Villa after 11 games.
Villa are a complete shambles of a club, hope they get relegated again.
I hope Villa keep their dirty mitts off Lee Johnson.
Steve Cotterill is still available...
With the way Villa are going, I wouldn't be surprised if they went down. Very poor start to the season indeed.
I thought they would be in the promotion/play off mix at the beginning of the season, it is a disappointing start for Villa. Off the field issues can't have helped matters there.
Cardiff sack Trollope.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/37552009
Appoint Warnock.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/37558965
The 14th club for Neil Warnock that he has managed.
The match against Cardiff looks much harder now they've appointed Colin. Although it certainly adds that "extra spice" to the game. They also have fatty Lambert playing for them as well.
Nigel Pearson has gone as Derby manager.
Aston Villa are in talks with Steve Bruce as taking over as manager. That certainly won't be popular.
A move which won't be popular possibly in both ways, Steve Bruce is set to be named as Aston Villa manager.
Mad to think that are rumours that Steve McClaren could in talks over returning to Derby as manager.
He's officially back! I was annoyed in how he took his eye off the ball in his last 4 months with us in favour of Newcastle but aside from that, his reign in charge coincided with the most pleasure I've ever had watching a Derby team in my 10-15 years of supporting them. For that reason, I'm glad he's back if he can resurrect the exciting attacking football (and ultimately good results) we had for the majority of the 13/14 and 14/15 seasons.
Steve Bruce has joined as the new Aston Villa manager don't think that is a popular move there.
If he can produce the form like he did before he left for Newcastle, McClaren then Derby could be in good stead although he always be the 'Wally In The Brolly' for me and our disastrous Euro 2008 campaign
Derby, Villa and Cardiff will probably start climbing up the table now.
Another reason to hate those Cardiff w*n**rs - they seem to like the bloody Gas!
http://www.cardiffcityforum.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=178137
I think Villa will just accept anyone with proven experience right now regardless of their history. McLeish was obviously unpopular due to the fact he came directly from Brum & just wasn't very good really (granted he did win the League Cup) but got relegated twice as well.
We were awful tonight. Cardiff are a bit of a bogey team these days.
Alan Stubbs has been sacked as Rotherham manager.
Brentford's McCormack gets 5 match ban for comments made in April relating to a female match official.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/37728701
Alan Stubbs sacked as Rotherham manager.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/37707825
They have since appointed Kenny Jackett.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/37728111
Caldwell has been sacked by Wigan.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/37769286
Shocked by Caldwell going did so well to lead them back to the championship but in the bottom 3, thought he might have had longer tho!
Walter Zenga was also sacked yesterday as Wolves manager.
A great goal from Steve Sidwell for Brighton today
Nearly as good as bents goal for Derby
Colin Calderwood has left Brighton and has since joined Aston Villa.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/38021312
Since my last post about the QPR position, Sherwood has joined Swindon Town and Ian Holloway has been reappointed.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/37943477
Warren Joyce has been appointed at Wigan in the aftermath of Caldwell being sacked.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/37563590
Preston's Jermaine Beckford and Eoin Doyle were both sent off for fighting each other in their defeat against Sheffield Wednesday.
Seen that it was no Dyer - Bowyer but funny all the same!
Not sure of the logic of the events at Birmingham City. Rowett has been sacked and Zola has been appointed.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/38316110
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/38322274
Zola has not got a good track record as a manager from memory, relegation battle when he was with West Ham is what I seem to remember.
Ridiculous indeed regarding Birmingham City. We'll see what happens with Zola. New owners poking their noses in.
We got to 20 points relatively quickly, we seem to be taking forever to get to 30 points.
We've been utter w*** for 2 months now. Our last 11 games, 2 wins, 1 draw and 8 defeats.
Jonjo Shelvey has received a five match ban for racial abuse towards Wolves midfielder Romain Saiss back in September.
Back to the top of the table today and with a game in hand!
I hope Brighton can keep up this good run they are on..shame we will be losing Dunk for next two games but yeah top of the league with a game in hand is looking quite good at the moment
Leeds aren't doing that bad Especially considering how they've performed in previous seasons.
If they maintain this run, Leeds United are a contender for promotion.
For automatic promotion, it will probably be Brighton & Newcastle United.
Johnson has to go now. 12 defeats in 15 games, 7 defeats in a row. Absolutely pathetic.
He got yous up tho - sacking is t always the answer!
That's fair enough I was sure he got yous promoted - where Cotterill now - he retired?
No he's not retired, I don't think.
McCarthy's job under threat after tonight's match?
I would say so but again they were bottom when he took over and has had consistent top 10 finishes with hardly any money!
8 defeats in a row now. That's a club record (in the league). Funnily enough Gary Johnson had a bad losing streak in 2005. He lost 9 games in a row (7 in the league and 2 in the cup). A Johnson thing perhaps?!
Gary did turn it around eventually but I just can't see Lee doing the same.
Horrible broken leg for Ryan Catney at the Cliftonville game today - he got a red card as he was being stretchered to the ambulance too which was doubly frustrating although in sure he didn't even know due to the pain lol
Newcastle and Brighton the two favourites to gain automatic promotion then?
Play-offs still very hard to predict.
Hope Brighton become champions!
And back to the top go Brighton with a win over Cardiff last night. Really hoping they can maintain their form and get promoted.
Brentford sell Hogan to Aston Villa for £12m and then beat them 3-0. I wonder if Hogan felt he made the right choice?
Two Irish players off to Villa then with Hourihane too!
Very good result for Huddersfield tonight over Brighton
We were awful..worst game I've seen them play so far this season!! hopefully get back to winning starting Sunday!!
Sheff Wed beat Wigan tonight 1-0 - keeping them in the top 6!
Tom Lawerence is some player - Leicester could do with some of his midfield guile and goals!
We finally won a game!
It was an ugly 1-0 win but who cares. Awful game, a very average performance overall, but we desperately needed that result.
A last-grasp equaliser for Brighton against Brentford there. Missing the chance to go top.
Typical Bristol City, f***ing up a 3-0 lead!
Watch us lose this 4-3 now.
Unlucky like but derby are a good side, you woulda taken it from the start!
Hard to see why Benitez would get the sack when Newcastle are top of the league. Find that hard to understand.
Nothing about that on the BBC. The only hint after a quick search is a link to Arsenal should Wenger call it a day.
Ben Turner faces a five game ban after being charged by the FA for racial abuse:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/38984488
Goal line technology may be introduced in the Championship next season possibly.
With the money they spent, Aston Villa still look mediocre.
If Villa now look mediocre, that's a significant improvement on last season.
They were completely dreadful last season.
Owen Coyle has left Blackburn by mutual consent.
League One looks ominous now for Blackburn.
Blackburn have appointed Tony Mowbray as their new head coach, his first job since he left Coventry City last September.
JOHNSON OUT!!!!
Our last 21 games, 3 wins, 3 draws and 15 defeats (12 points from 63). That is f***ing disgraceful.
Thankfully I didn't attend the match (I watched Little Mix perform and win a Brit Award instead).
Huge games for Newcastle this week away to Brighton & Huddersfield!
How many points do people think they will take?
Im hoping Brighton can beat them on Tuesday and that they draw or lose to Huddersfield at the weekend and that we can beat Nottingham Forest and put a gap between us at the top!
Despite the win over Brighton.
I think it still wide open for the title between Newcastle and Brighton.
Huddersfield are getting closer to the top two..I think its becoming a three way race now..gutted we couldn't hang on and win against Newcastle, they were very lucky with their first goal!!
Aston Villa midfielder Leandro Bacuna has been given a six-match ban following his altercation with an official.
I hope Brighton haven't hit an slump in their form in their battle for promotion following losing the last two games.
Derby have sacked Steve McClaren for the second time.
Warren Joyce has been sacked as Wigan manager. He becomes the third Championship manager to lose his job in 4 days after Alex Neil was sacked on Friday by Norwich and Steve McClaren by Derby yesterday.
Come on Brentford and Fulham!
Yes Tomlin!
4-0!
What a win, and what a great decision by myself to watch it on Sky instead of attending the match.
Yeah very good result for Brighton..Hopefully we will win tomorrow and maintain the gap..it will be tough away to Leeds but should be a good game!
Rotherham are relegated. It has been looking like that all season.
Preston 5-0 Bristol City
f*** off Johnson you f***ing clown!
Indeed he needs to go following that result.
Brighton looking ever closer to promotion.
It would quite a decline in form or Leeds, Reading or Huddersfield all winning their remaining games for that to happen.
I'm just being cautious. I can sees some lovely looking eggs, but none of them have hatched yet.
Bizarre incident between Newcastle and Burton over Matt Ritchie's penalty. What was that about?
Six points needed from five games. I'm getting nervous
And even then that's only relying on Huddersfield winning all their remaining games^
Think the promoted teams are both done & dusted, tough to call the outright winner though.
Either want Huddersfield or Sheff Wed promoted via the play-offs!
A few weeks ago I would have made Huddersfield favourites to win the play-offs but they've really gone off the boil recently. They no longer look like going into them as the form team.
Tammy Abraham
This guy is the real deal. I have no doubt he'll be a future star for Chelsea and England. He reminds of Gary Lineker. Doesn't score amazing goals from outside the box but he's a fantastic goal poacher.
Results went our way and now sitting on top of the table with 5 games left to go it will be nerve racking!
Abrahams has impressed for the past 2 years - 20 goals is that this year in a struggling side?
A very bad result for Reading, almost embarrassing. 6-1 down in the first half.
Could have been worse for sure. They now have a -1 goal difference.
I can't see Leeds making it up this season unfortunately, it would be too much of a fluke
Just one win now for Brighton for promotion to the Premier League. Fully deserved.
I would like Huddersfield, a team that has never been in the Premier League to go up through the play-offs. Also, I seem to recall someone saying that Huddersfield were favourites for relegation and that is another reason for my preference.
Think they may have run out of steam at the worst time but I agree!
Inevitable now for Brighton and promotion.
Back up backup to the playoffs go Fulham.
And there could be a sting in the tail for Brighton with Wigan pulling a goal back.
Haha Newcastle and Leeds are losing.
Why the hell not shouldn't there be a pitch invasion? Brighton realistically have done it. It's their first time in the Premier League.
Congratulations Brighton, well deserved. I've missed a few home games this season but they're by far the best team I've seen at Ashton Gate this season (I said the same last season as well).
A decent point for us today even though we should have won really. It's looking better for us than it did two weeks ago though, four points clear with three games to play. Not quite safe yet but another win should do it.
Great to see a brand new team in the Premier League next season!
It's now confirmed
Thanks to Derby (my mother's team) I don't have to worry about freak results leaving me with egg on my face.
Congratulations to Brighton! It will be nice to watch them on Match Of The Day next season. They're definitely going to come straight back to the Championship though!
Mad! I don't really expect them to last longer than a year in the Premier League either but to see them there at all is astonishing!
I remember when I was at primary school and the manager/coaches of the time regularly used to come in and talk to us. This was the time they were close to liquidation and playing in much lower leagues. Crazy to see them finally breaking through to the big time, will be good to see the Amex used for matches of such a stature.
Basically everyone said the same about Bournemouth, that they'd go straight back down but they look like managing a third straight stint in the top tier.
Would be great if Huddersfield join them.
People also said the same when Brighton were first promoted to the top flight back in 1979. They stayed for four seasons that time.
Needless to say there's something of a party atmosphere in town tonight. It wasn't all that long ago that he Albion were a point away from exiting the football league!
Zola has eventually gone about time. The owners have ruined Birmingham City's season. Me, Crystal Palace and Birmingham City are my passion.
Welcome to the 48th new team to the premier league!
Watching Football On 5 with Lyndsey Hipgrove as presenter. She's quite nice actually
I think Brighton with the right brakes could stay in the Premier League next season. It'll be tough though.
Anything could happen next season, too early to say if Brighton will go straight back down. All depends on numerous factors. They have a good manager, good structure etc. so they have everything in place. Anyway, the fans should just enjoy it and wait for the fixture list!
Really hope Sheff Weds/Huddersfield come up.
And Harry Redknapp has been appointed the manager of Birmingham City.
That was unexpected.
Steve Cotterill is going to be his assistant. Would be ironic if Cotterill had an influence on us getting relegated on the last day of the season.
Still can't believe Brighton got promoted to the premiership
Hope we will win the Championship too!
Redknapp as Birmingham City manager crazy, supposing the mighty Blues go down to League One, would he stay if the owners said I want you to stay.
It's a weird decision, unexpected.
Why get rid of Rowlett, this season will have been as different story if he had stayed he was pushed.
A potentially big derby on Sunday between Birmingham City and Aston Villa. A Premier League encounter once upon a time.
A very bizarre game last night with Brighton's keeper scoring 2 own goals!
Newcastle are back in the Premier League after beating Preston 4-1. Their immediate return was never in doubt and I think they will stay up next season as well.
Well they won't have Sunderland to deal with next season for their sake! But surprised they didn't go back up as winners like the last time, the Championship is brutal though.
Still reckon Brighton will win the title. Might stay up next season under Rafa regarding Newcastle.
A vital game possibly for Huddersfield against Wolves to stop this run of form if Fulham and Leeds win their two games, they'll miss the play-offs.
Brighton only need to win now to secure the title surely they won't throw it away..
I guess Jade, Perrie and Cheryl are Bristol City fans today!
Great win for us, officially safe now. We really frustrated Brighton, Flint was immense at the back.
An interesting last day in the Championship next week...
So the 4 teams in the play offs are Reading, Sheffield Wednesday, Huddersfield & Fulham. I think Reading are the most likely team to win the play offs and it would be good to see ex Man United player Jaap Stam back in the Premier League as a manager. I would prefer Huddersfield to get promoted though as it would be their first ever time in the top flight, Sheffield Wednesday would also be good because it's been more than 15 years since they were last in the Premier League.
Interesting play-offs, I really hope Fulham/Reading dont go up. Would love to see a Yorkshire derby in the final!
Me too, hoping to see an Huddersfield v Sheffield Wednesday play-off final. Would like either of these two to go up.
Oh David Stockdale...... Brighton lose the title to a late equaliser from Grealish from Villa.
Blackburn go down to League One.
But we're going up and that's the main thing
We're still a Championship side
Gutted - would have liked Hughton to win a second title!
Yes which one mdh?
Out of Huddersfield, Reading, Fulham and Sheffield Wednesday. Who do you think will go up?
I think Reading stand the best chance but I'm rooting for The Terriers!
A couple months go I would have made Huddersfield clear favourites for winning the play-offs but their recent form has been terrible. They have done a Tottenham by finishing fifth in a three horse race.
Can't see Huddersfield going up as they have stuttered through with the form they've been in.
Sheffield Wednesday please. Been too long, would love an away day at Hillsborough.
If not, Fulham. Hate Reading so please not them.
Form often tends to mean very little going into the playoffs however, anything can happen in these matches, especially the winner takes all final!
And we are still wanting to know who mdh was happy about the team staying in the Championship.
I think in the final it will be between Fulham and Sheffield Wednesday.
When he posted that comment, we weren't sure which one he meant. That explains it now, cheers.
How do you see Bristol City doing next season, OutstandingMixer?
Is Abrahams def going back to Chelsea?
Yeh most likely a premier league side to see how he copes!
Redknapp might win the league for Birmingham City next season.
You think he will be there still?
Didn't see that, quite surprising!
Still very much all to play for between both matches. I think Huddersfield will be regretting the chances they missed yesterday.
And through to the final went Reading.
Huddersfield join them in the final after beating Sheff Wednesday on penalties!
Great to see Huddersfield make the playoff final, Reading will be strong favourites to go through.
Another success less season for Leeds At least were getting better. ..
Huddersfield or Reading,
Do you think will win the play-off final.
Want Huddersfield but think Reading.
Huddersfield hopefully but I like big Stam too!
Garry Monk resigned as Leeds manager yesterday:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/40046074
And Norwich have appointed Daniel Farke as their new head coach.
Who's Daniel Farke?
I would prefer Huddersfield to go up, especially after they were tipped for relegation at the start of the season.
Great to see Huddersfield promoted! Superb achievement, that shootout was tense.
Hope they can pull a Bournemouth & survive their first season against all odds!
Fully deserved from Huddersfield there, that penalty shootout was thrilling.
Paul Lambert has left Wolves after 7 months in charge:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/39896630
Great achievement for Huddersfield. I too hope they survive a first season.
Nuno has been appointed as Wolves manager.
Hull's new manager is Leonid Slutsky!!!!
