Newcastle are going to absolutely OWN this league.

Posted by: Mack Jul 1 2016, 07:39 PM

Especially with the signings they've made with Ritchie and Gayle.

Posted by: Steve201 Jul 2 2016, 03:59 PM

Hard to believe Burton Albion are playing at this level. Although with Nigel Clough in charge they will struggle I woulda guess.

Posted by: OutstandingMixer Aug 5 2016, 09:05 PM

Impressive result for Fulham tonight. Newcastle looked very ordinary though.

The championship tends to swallow managers up - might happen to Rafa too - need a Chris Hughton or a kick McCarthy rather than a continental manager

I think Rafa will be fine, it might just take him and his players a few games to get used to the hustle and bustle of the Championship.

Really looking forward to Bristol City v Wigan today. No idea how it will go but I feel like we could do with three points on the board early seeing as we've got Norwich, Newcastle and Villa in August. City and Wigan rarely win their opening games so it'll probably be a draw.

Posted by: mdh Aug 6 2016, 11:35 AM

Excited for today's game. Hopefully we'll be able to pull off a result.

Posted by: Mack Aug 14 2016, 12:04 PM

A second loss in two games for Newcastle United and Rafa Bentiez. Dearie me.

Posted by: Martyn Aug 14 2016, 10:07 PM

So much for the odds on Newcastle going the whole season unbeaten. Newcastle to be relegated to league 1!

Posted by: PeteFromLeeds Aug 15 2016, 10:13 AM

Leeds to flop in this league as always sad.gif

Posted by: Ðøßßø Aug 15 2016, 01:30 PM

Tis the problem with the Championship for relegated teams, it's a brutal league. Having said that I still fancy Toon to win the league when they get their asses in gear. I think a good number of the squad probably think they're better than the Championship so are going into games expecting to win which is never the way to approach any match.

Posted by: Josh. Aug 15 2016, 02:35 PM

Yeah, it's a terrible start for Newcastle and very unexpected due to how their team is full of quality players but I can't see them not winning the league still once they get used to it all.

I do hope they get promoted too, as someone who used to live in Newcastle, I do love it when the Toon, Boro and Sunderland are all in the same league biggrin.gif

Posted by: Suedehead2 Aug 18 2016, 07:00 AM

After three games, no team has a 100% record and Brighton are top on goal difference cheer.gif They seem to have learned a lesson from last season when they didn't win a game by more than one goal until well after Christmas.

Posted by: Rooney Aug 18 2016, 11:12 AM

Newcastle will be fine, you can lose 10 games in the Championship and still get promoted. Themselves and Norwich are the best teams on paper, but I would expect Brighton, Sheffield Wednesday and Huddersfield to push them close.

You'd expect Derby to be in the mix too, although they've started slowly again. Not sure about Villa really. I think they might be too inconsistent to really challenge for automatic promotion.

Posted by: mdh Aug 28 2016, 10:25 AM

I'm pretty pleased with how we're doing at the moment. A 3-0 win over Norwich this time last season would make me spit my tea out but, although we're in a lower place than we were this time last year we look as though we could genuinely challenge for the play-offs.

Also, I'm absolutely delighted to see the scum/Villa playing badly. Please get relegated.

Villa completely collapsed after we scored, they have such a soft underbelly. We were awful in the first half and made them look like Barcelona. We completely outplayed them in the second half though. Tammy Abraham looks some player.

Very surprised at Huddersfield, I would have predicted a relegation battle for them. Early days I know...

So much for my theory that Pearson's comments about the lack of guaranteed commitment from his squad had something to do with his suspension..

From winning the Champions League with Chelsea back in 2012.

Four years on, Di Matteo has been sacked as manager of Aston Villa after 11 games.

Steve Cotterill is still available... wink.gif

Posted by: Mack Oct 4 2016, 07:52 AM

With the way Villa are going, I wouldn't be surprised if they went down. Very poor start to the season indeed.

Posted by: Flatcap Oct 5 2016, 06:02 PM

I thought they would be in the promotion/play off mix at the beginning of the season, it is a disappointing start for Villa. Off the field issues can't have helped matters there.

A move which won't be popular possibly in both ways, Steve Bruce is set to be named as Aston Villa manager.

Posted by: Mack Oct 12 2016, 12:00 PM

Mad to think that are rumours that Steve McClaren could in talks over returning to Derby as manager.

Posted by: Ryan. Oct 12 2016, 09:20 PM

He's officially back! I was annoyed in how he took his eye off the ball in his last 4 months with us in favour of Newcastle but aside from that, his reign in charge coincided with the most pleasure I've ever had watching a Derby team in my 10-15 years of supporting them. For that reason, I'm glad he's back if he can resurrect the exciting attacking football (and ultimately good results) we had for the majority of the 13/14 and 14/15 seasons.

Posted by: Mack Oct 12 2016, 09:46 PM

Steve Bruce has joined as the new Aston Villa manager don't think that is a popular move there.

If he can produce the form like he did before he left for Newcastle, McClaren then Derby could be in good stead although he always be the 'Wally In The Brolly' for me and our disastrous Euro 2008 campaign

Posted by: OutstandingMixer Oct 12 2016, 09:50 PM

Derby, Villa and Cardiff will probably start climbing up the table now.

I think Villa will just accept anyone with proven experience right now regardless of their history. McLeish was obviously unpopular due to the fact he came directly from Brum & just wasn't very good really (granted he did win the League Cup) but got relegated twice as well.

Steve Cotterill got us promoted not Lee Johnson. tongue.gif

Johnson did well to keep us up last season but he's completely lost the plot in the last few months. He doesn't know his best team, chopping and changing the team/formation every week, playing players out of position. Seriously, he hasn't got a f***ing clue what he's doing.

He's been out of work for over a year now but he hasn't retired. Apparently he was offered the Newport job but turned it down. He also was interviewed for the Villa job but he was never going to beat Steve Bruce to the post.

I think he would do well at a League One club. He has a good record there but he seems to fall short at Championship level.

McCarthy's job under threat after tonight's match?

Posted by: OutstandingMixer Jan 21 2017, 06:18 PM

8 defeats in a row now. That's a club record (in the league). Funnily enough Gary Johnson had a bad losing streak in 2005. He lost 9 games in a row (7 in the league and 2 in the cup). A Johnson thing perhaps?!

Gary did turn it around eventually but I just can't see Lee doing the same. sad.gif

There is also the worry that Joyce might not recover his sight after the operation. Obviously we wish him well.

In other news, Gary Rowett has been appointed at Derby County and Mark Warburton has been appointed at Nottingham Forest. Should be an interesting Brian Clough trophy match with both teams obtaining new managers prior to this.

Brighton now guaranteed at least a place in the playoffs although, obviously, the playoffs would count as a failure after spending so long in the top two.

Posted by: Mack Apr 4 2017, 09:46 PM

It would quite a decline in form or Leeds, Reading or Huddersfield all winning their remaining games for that to happen.

Posted by: Suedehead2 Apr 4 2017, 10:16 PM

I'm just being cautious. I can sees some lovely looking eggs, but none of them have hatched yet.

Bizarre incident between Newcastle and Burton over Matt Ritchie's penalty. What was that about?

Posted by: Suedehead2 Apr 8 2017, 08:48 PM

Six points needed from five games. I'm getting nervous wacko.gif

Posted by: Dobbo Apr 8 2017, 09:01 PM

And even then that's only relying on Huddersfield winning all their remaining games^

Think the promoted teams are both done & dusted, tough to call the outright winner though.

Either want Huddersfield or Sheff Wed promoted via the play-offs!

Posted by: Suedehead2 Apr 8 2017, 10:28 PM

A few weeks ago I would have made Huddersfield favourites to win the play-offs but they've really gone off the boil recently. They no longer look like going into them as the form team.

Tammy Abraham wub.gif

This guy is the real deal. I have no doubt he'll be a future star for Chelsea and England. He reminds of Gary Lineker. Doesn't score amazing goals from outside the box but he's a fantastic goal poacher.

Real good player. Can't see him getting in the Chelsea team though. Think he might turn in to another Lukaku type.

I think both Brighton and Newcastle and done and dusted as well. I'm really pleased for Chris Hughton. I hope it's one of Sheff Weds/Leeds/Huddersfield that come up. I would much rather the former out of the 3, but I would really like to see a Yorkshire team in the Premier League again.

Posted by: Mack Apr 9 2017, 06:28 PM

A very bad result for Reading, almost embarrassing. 6-1 down in the first half.

Could have been worse for sure. They now have a -1 goal difference.

Just one win now for Brighton for promotion to the Premier League. Fully deserved.

Posted by: Flatcap Apr 16 2017, 01:50 PM

I would like Huddersfield, a team that has never been in the Premier League to go up through the play-offs. Also, I seem to recall someone saying that Huddersfield were favourites for relegation and that is another reason for my preference. laugh.gif

A decent point for us today even though we should have won really. It's looking better for us than it did two weeks ago though, four points clear with three games to play. Not quite safe yet but another win should do it.

Posted by: gooddelta Apr 17 2017, 06:37 PM

Mad! I don't really expect them to last longer than a year in the Premier League either but to see them there at all is astonishing!

I remember when I was at primary school and the manager/coaches of the time regularly used to come in and talk to us. This was the time they were close to liquidation and playing in much lower leagues. Crazy to see them finally breaking through to the big time, will be good to see the Amex used for matches of such a stature.

Posted by: Dobbo Apr 17 2017, 08:30 PM

Basically everyone said the same about Bournemouth, that they'd go straight back down but they look like managing a third straight stint in the top tier.

Would be great if Huddersfield join them.

People also said the same when Brighton were first promoted to the top flight back in 1979. They stayed for four seasons that time.

So the 4 teams in the play offs are Reading, Sheffield Wednesday, Huddersfield & Fulham. I think Reading are the most likely team to win the play offs and it would be good to see ex Man United player Jaap Stam back in the Premier League as a manager. I would prefer Huddersfield to get promoted though as it would be their first ever time in the top flight, Sheffield Wednesday would also be good because it's been more than 15 years since they were last in the Premier League.

Not sure really, it's been a strange season overall. A decent start to the season, absolutely absymal in the middle, and then ended the season in good form. A really frustrating season in all honesty. We definitely need to strengthen in certain areas if we are to move forward and really compete in this league. A striker to replace Tammy, and both full-back positions are a must. A creative/goal scoring midfielder would nice too.
