Dexton's Top 40 (19/06/2018) (Week 58)
Busy busy busy, but not at #1 as Panic! At The Disco continue their hold on the top for a 2nd week with High Hopes. Ariana Grande is back in the Top 10 not long since former-#1 No Tears Left To Cry bowed out, featuring on Troye Sivan's latest single Dance To This which debuts at #2. Ariana also enters the chart on yet another feature this week, but is lower down the chart. At Maroon 5's Girls Like You featuring Cardi B (4-3) and Clean Bandit's Solo featuring Demi Lovato (3-4) switch around neatly but poor George Ezra's Shotgun is clinging on to the Top 5. Better Now (10-7) becomes Post Malone's highest charting solo single, outpeaking his previous Top 10 Psycho featuring Ty Dolla $ign. Years & Years' If You're Over Me (8-8) and 5 Seconds of Summer's Youngblood (9-9) enjoy another week Top 10, the latter of which is the title track of the bands latest album which debuts in my album chart during a particularly busy week. Duke Dumont's Inhale featuring Ebenezer (6-10) also spends another week in the Top 10. Notable climbers this week include Khalid & H.E.R.'s This Way (17-11), Vance Joy's Saturday Sun (28-13), Ivy Adara's Currency (19-15), Niall Horan & Maren Morris' Seeing Blind (32-17), Cardi B's I Like It featuring J Balvin & Bad Bunny (27-18), Labrinth, Sia, & Diplo's Audio (29-19), Hayden James' Just Friends featuring Boy Matthews (33-25), and Vic Mensa & Marshmello's Reverse featuring G-Eazy (35-33). Saturday Sun becomes Vance Joy's 3rd consecutive Top 20 hit and 2nd to peak at #13, will Saturday Sun be able to outshine We're Going Home? Ivy Adara continues the string of Australian Top 20 songs with Currency rising for yet another week, and Sia also adds to the Aussie climbers earning another Top 20 hit for herself with Audio. Seeing Blind matches the peak of his previous single On The Loose, and also gives Maren Morris her first and highest charting song here. Cardi B experiences a bit of a resurgence and re-enters the Top 20 - watch this space 9 new songs enter the chart this week, which is just the 6th time this year this has happened! Troye earns his highest charting single with Dance To This featuring Ariana Grande at #2 (incredibly helped by the feature, not gonna lie). Kygo & Imagine Dragons' Born To Be Yours (#20) is a welcome return to the chart for both artists. Jorja Smith's Blue Lights (#21) enters on the back of her debut album Lost & Found, Nicki Minaj's Bed featuring Ariana Grande (#22) is Nicki's first solo entry here after the crappy stuff she's releases thus far in 2018, and Juice WRLD's Lucid Dreams (#23) is one of the few new entries this week from a previously unseen artist! Another batch of new entries shows up at the bottom of the chart. Martin Garrix's Ocean featuring Khalid (#37) is surprisingly Martin Garrix's first ever entry in my chart - There For You missed out last year due to this only being a Top 20 back then. Big news came this weekened when Beyonce & Jay-Z launched their first joint album Everything Is Love at the end of an On The Run II show. The album shows up in the album chart, and lead single Apeshit (featuring the uncredited adlibs of Quavo and Offset, and co-produced by Pharrel) enters a #38. Sigala, Fuse ODG, & Sean Paul's Feels Like Home featuring Kent Jones (#39) is more football-sounding than most of the football-related singles releases for the World Cup this year... but the fact it's not related to the World Cup makes me like it even more The Rubens make their chart debut (strange) with Never Ever featuring Sarah Aarons at #40. Sarah Aarons previously made the chart on Peking Duck's Fire, but may be more familiar as "Paige IV" from L D R U's Keeping Score. We have the album chart opening up with Beyonce & Jay-Z taking the top spot with Everything Is Love. 5 Seconds of Summer AND Lily Allen also debut Top 3, giving the top end of the chart a bit of a cleanout. Both Youngblood and No Shame would be #1s in any other week, but poor timing for them Although, Post Malone's Beerbongs & Bentleys didn't peak at #1 until it's 6th week on the chart - so who knows how they might grow on me. George Ezra leaves the Top 5 for the first time since Staying At Tamara's release, but more interesting perhaps is how Justin Timberlake's Man Of The Woods (9-10) is now inches from leaving! At just 19 weeks on the chart though, JT is far from beating The Killers' record for most weeks spent inthe album chart, as some may remember Wonderful Wonderful spent 26 weeks here with 17 of those in the Top 5. I like Happy Little Pill, Wild, and Youth but anything other than that from him I've kinda just passed over tbh. Papercut on Zedds album was a banger though and There For You wasn't bad. Dance to This is the best thing he's done in a while for me Kygo + Imagine Dragons is a combo you'd never expect to work, but it does It's not his best but it's definitely above some of the crappier songs he's put out Blue Lights is so good *.* It's grown on me so much in the past week, the album is amazing too - especially Teenage Fantasy and Lifeboats I actually didn't like Chun-Li so much, but maybe I'm just less of a Nicki fan than I thought I was Ariana makes this for me I think but they both sound great Lucid Dreams > all my friends are dead Feels Like Home is miles better than Lullaby but watch this be Sigala's first proper single to miss the Top 40 or something :/ Thanks for commenting! Great Chart Hey Harry! Dance To This and Bed are both bops but yeah I much prefer Troye's to Nicki's Geoff Ezra hitting the mark again Seeing Blind is a really good single choice I think, whether it'll be any sort of hit or not is yet to be seen but Maren Morris has become more of a known name after The Middle so hopefully Niall can get another hit out of his album. If not, it's a really great song anyway You should give Blue Lights another try It's grown on me a lot after I passed it up at first! Thanks for commenting! |

Hello Dexton!
I like the big gains for "Seeing Blind" and "Audio"! And I also like the debuts for "Dance To This", "Born To Be Yours", "Blue Lights", "Ocean" and "Feels Like Home"! The album chart and bubbling under chart is great too! Great chart as always! |

Lot's debuts this week, possibly a lot next week I had to spring for a Retro & Bubbling under bonus charts this week - lot's of great songs I'm liking right now and it's interesting to compare my Top 10 then to now Thanks for commenting! I think it's a single, or it could just be promotional (not like it makes a difference really). Troye's been very hit & miss with me but this year Ariana has delivered 4/4 amazing songs tbh. Expect The Light Is Coming high next week Kygo & ID might not be a hit over there but it sure is for us It's been Top 5 iTunes all week and is almost Top 30 in streams (not counting xxxtentacion) Bed is more of a grower I think, and is my least favourite of Ari's singles so far this year (but second favourite of Nickis ) It is very strange that There's A Reason Why hasn't been playlisted yet, it even had Spotify support at some point though I'm not sure if it still does. It's nice that this has given them another Top 100 charting song though even if it was just for one week Thanks for commenting! |

Hello Dexton, Nice to see PATD at number one, it fell out my chart the other week but re-enters this week. It's really grown on me. Great new entries from The Carters, Sigala & Jorja Smith. Nice chart |

Hey there Dexton
So many brilliant new entries this week *.* 'Dance To This' is definitely my preferred Ariana feature here, it's so relaxing <3 I was hoping that 'Bed' would click with me more during the chart show today but no such luck. A song that did click with me in a big way however due to its chart appearance (albeit last week) is 'Blue Lights' gosh what an absolutely stunning song, I hope it'll re-enter the top 40 because it deserves more than a fleeting one week appearance! Pleased to see 'Lucid Dreams' debuting here, I feel like the sample works so well (move over Sugababes and Craig David) and his voice is Post Malone-esque which is definitely a good thing in my books. Lastly, yay for Martin Garrix and Sigala sneaking in! The vocals make both of them for me. Great stuff |

Hi Dexton!
High Hopes spending a second week at #1 - it's definitely better than those two dreadful songs they released a couple of months ago ( ) and it's quite catchy but I don't really think they're for me New Kygo is quite nice, the verse was a bit dull but I'm enjoying the drop, and great to see Jorja enter - my favourite of hers that I've heard I think! New Sigala is amazing also Can't believe it hasn't even gone Top 100 Not heard of The Rubens before I'm quite enjoying this, takes a while to get going but good when it does! It could grow on me as well Great chart |

Nice chart Hey DD! High Hopes is their best this whole era I think The album is fab too I wasn't sure whether to credit Apeshit to The Carters or Beyonce & Jay-Z at first, but I went with individual names so it fits in my chart history better (same reason it's Labrinth, Sia, & Diplo and not LSD ) Thanks for commenting! Great stuff Hey Jade Dance To This is such a chilled out jam, although The Light Is Coming has quickly overtaken as my favourite Ari track right now Bed is growing on me but I feel like I only hear it when my playlist is on shuffle Blue Lights is amazing too, I didn't realise it fell out of the Top 40 but hopefully she can get a bigger hit with it soon I thought Lucid Dreams was Post Malone when I first heard it but thought "when did I put Post Malone on?" They're similar but different enough which is nice, although I probably won't like anything else from him I hope Ocean continues to grow on me, I like it but it's not what I was expecting! It could grow on me as well Great chart Hi Pete! Say Amen was good! (f*** A) Silver Linings was ok but was overshadowed by the other one High Hopes is indeed far better though tbh, the album is great too! It's interesting because Panic! isn't really a bad anymore, Brendan Urie is the only official member and is just joined by tour band members really I'm loving Blue Lights rn, and Teenage Fantasy almost as much but my chart is already struggling to cope with all the great songs I'm enjoying right now to allow album tracks Feels Like Home is wayyyy better than Lullaby, Paloma is nice but overrated tbh. Came Here For Love was better You've not heard of The Rubens? Check out Hoops too (huge in Aus in 2016-ish) - also My Gun and Hold Me Back Thanks for commenting! |
