BuzzJack Music Forum _ Kylie and Dannii Minogue _ All the Lovers ● 10 years on

Posted by: Liam.k. 2nd June 2020, 06:24 PM

This month marks 10 years since Kylie released 'All the Lovers' as the lead single to her eleventh studio album Aphrodite. The glistening electro-pop/disco production is the perfect backdrop for Kylie's celebratory message of embracing love, heightened by the euphoric, hands-in-the-air chorus and explosive, middle-8 breakdown - it's quintessential Kylie!

The music video shows a flash mob of couples building a pyramid of love-making in which Kylie erupts from as the Goddess of Love. It's a saucy concept but is executed with such sensitivity and allows the beauty of love and affection to shine. Director Joseph Kahn revealed that requests were made to remove any same-sex contact. Kylie refused.

10 years on, what are your thoughts on the single now?

Kylie was the dream artist to work with. First as a specimen of female, she is a joy to photograph. The camera can do no wrong. Her eyes always twinkle. But on top of that, she is extraordinarily collaborative and supportive. She really loves and understand directors, and once she understands the vision, she completely nurtures you to go for it. The craziest thing was she never watched herself on playback! That’s brilliant. Instead of cosmetics, she’s performing from a pure emotional core. Very few artists trust that instinct or have that ability.

When I turned in the edit, someone at the label wanted to recut the whole video. He just didn’t understand it, nor was he willing to listen to me or anyone else. The re-edit was going to be a disaster. But Kylie stepped in and shut that weirdo down COMPLETELY.

This is one of my favorite videos I did last year, and one of my favorites ever really. The message Kylie wanted to say with this video is important, and I am lucky to have worked with her on it.

All the lovers is a complete triumph and one of her best songs ever!

Posted by: HausofGhibli 2nd June 2020, 06:45 PM

This was such a moment at Brighton Pride last year! The entire park was in awe, I was in tears. What a beautiful song and one that seems to get better with age (or maybe that's because I become more aware of its beauty as I get older, i'm not sure). Either way, pure love heart.gif

In my top 3

Posted by: aeroco 2nd June 2020, 07:15 PM

Such a great song and video, can’t believe it’s ten years ago since we first heard it. Still fresh.

Posted by: Jonjo 2nd June 2020, 07:28 PM

My favourite Kylie song and one of my favourite songs of the last decade. Absolutely sublime. I get chills whenever I listen to it and just love reveling in all it's euphoria and joy!

Sensational wub.gif

So much love in this thread! wub.gif

I still remember the first time hearing a 30 second preview in the album announcement video which was of the post-middle 8 breakdown and thinking it was the most euphoric piece of music I had ever heard! The complete song, the video, the promotion - everything was so uplifting and joyous which really resonated with me, even more so with this being the first Kylie single I had properly followed the unveiling and promotional campaign for. It soundtracked my summer 2010 and remains so fresh today, which is quite remarkable considering how most of 2010's music has dated.

It was a huge highlight on the Golden Tour - the moment the confetti cannons fire at the breakdown was incredible, like I was in my own little bubble of happiness and nothing could touch it.

I was listening to it today as part of the Buzzjack Pride playlist in The Lounge and with that context in mind it really moved me. It's such an important song. heart.gif

I really like the song, it’s sounds amazing live and has connected with the general public and one which most people seem to know and like - it really was a high point for Kylie.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 2nd June 2020, 10:50 PM

Great to see so many other fans of all the lovers. I agree it's amazing live and it always connects strongly when she sings it.

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 3rd June 2020, 09:52 AM

It was a proud moment to be a Kylie fan, it felt like she'd really transcended outside her traditional fanbase with something. Shame it was her last properly big chart hit.

I'm not sure where I'd rank it in her singles discography, but it becomes more and more special over time for me. So euphoric.

Posted by: Chemistry 3rd June 2020, 10:03 AM

I am a big Kylie fan, but this song for me is most definitely the highlight of her back catalogue, what an amazing song. It has such a euphoric and joyful vibe, I love the instrumental part in the middle and it still gives me so much pleasure.

The video is also fantastic, what a way to start an era.

This echoes my own feelings towards All The Lovers.
A massive standout moment in Kylie's career.
The song has aged like a fine wine and remains ever so refreshing 10 years on from its release.

It's an all round very popular song and kylie always nails the song when performing it live, she really gets into the song.

Posted by: Jαsє 3rd June 2020, 02:40 PM

Perhaps her career highlight. What a beautiful song. heart.gif

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 3rd June 2020, 04:54 PM

Its def one of her very high career highlight for me, i really love some of the live versions of it more than the actual studio version.

That performance is such a stellar performance of a Kylie great.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 3rd June 2020, 09:21 PM

so many great performances of all the lovers that i love

Posted by: pippa 3rd June 2020, 10:52 PM

The Jonathan Ross performance is beautiful.

Posted by: Liam.k. 3rd June 2020, 11:09 PM

I can clearly remember the Jonathan Ross appearance - she also performed 'Love at First Sight'. Everything about the performances and the interview was so happy and positive which really stuck with me. Such a great time to be a Kylie fan.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 4th June 2020, 12:49 AM

it was a great interview aswell and i think jack black was on the same episode, but it was a great interview and performances from kylie.

Posted by: Chemistry 4th June 2020, 05:37 AM

I've always loved this live version with the Scissor Sisters as well.

There Are flavours of Golden in that version but a version that does not favour the song to its best.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 4th June 2020, 08:34 PM

This is another really good one.

Yes, indeed. Has that same country-pop vibe!

Posted by: pippa 5th June 2020, 10:11 AM

It is a disappointment All The Lovers didn't perform better in Australia.

Is it? Couldn’t see it.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 5th June 2020, 03:05 PM

im not familar with this, would this equal to much streams?

Posted by: aeroco 5th June 2020, 03:38 PM

All The Lovers top of the NHS ThankYouThursday Playlist. Is that the one you meant?

Posted by: Liam.k. 5th June 2020, 03:47 PM

Spotify previously had two Throwback Thursday playlists, but it seems like they've changed the one I followed to ThankYouThursday and yes, that's the one that has 'All the Lovers' on.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 5th June 2020, 03:51 PM

Hopefully it gets the song some good exposure to help it get them extra sales.

Posted by: pippa 5th June 2020, 06:18 PM

Anything that can attract attention to this wonderful song is welcomed with wide open arms.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 5th June 2020, 06:29 PM

id like to think all the lovers will at sometime pass 500k UK sales

Posted by: pippa 5th June 2020, 06:31 PM

It will certainly happen as it's close to only 50,000 away.
Platinum is where I would like it to reach.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 5th June 2020, 06:31 PM

It will still take a long time to get to 500k let alone 600k.

Posted by: pippa 5th June 2020, 06:33 PM

It may take time but the song All The Lovers is very good at attracting random sales.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 5th June 2020, 06:35 PM

I know it is and it always reacts to any promo but its only picked up about 40k in sales in the last couple of years so it could take about 10 years to get to platinum at that rate or more.

Posted by: pippa 5th June 2020, 06:36 PM

I will remain optimistic.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 5th June 2020, 07:10 PM

well its not for the not wanting it to happen that im cautious in thinking it may never happen as id love it to happen.

Wouldn't we all!

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 11th June 2020, 04:38 PM

She can still deliver the goods as we saw with the tracks on golden, especially with dancing, and i love dancing but all the lovers is just that level above it.

Posted by: Chemistry 11th June 2020, 05:42 PM

Happy anniversary wub.gif

I love how Kylie herself describes this song as the anthem for inclusion and diversity; the video surely helped a lot with that as well. I remember it did help me a lot, as a struggling, closeted gay guy who was surely not ready to come out ten years ago. Seeing one of my favourite artists releasing a video like this, which celebrates love in all it's forms was a brilliant feeling back then and still is today.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 11th June 2020, 06:42 PM

yes i like what it represents from kylie, inclusion and diversity are important, very important actually and its fitting.

Posted by: pippa 11th June 2020, 08:54 PM

All The Lovers is a forever classic.

Such a great track and it suits her voice and vocal range so well too - I love that it has taken on a life of its own and become a signature Kylie song.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 2nd March 2023, 10:44 PM

Me too, its really become such a huge Kylie song and its all fitting that it was her last big big hit.

Such a key song for Kylie - as well as being adopted by the fanbase as ‘our’ song I feel like the GP remember it too.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 2nd May 2023, 06:31 PM

I think it's def one if her songs well known by the general public.

Posted by: neill2407 2nd May 2023, 06:38 PM

Deffo up there with one of her best and her last T3 single!

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 2nd May 2023, 10:59 PM

At the time i never thought it would be her last Top 3 or last real big single, i know anything can happen if a song gets used in the right place but its likely its her last big hit unless that big surprise comes that i really would love to see happen.

Posted by: Roba. 2nd May 2023, 11:12 PM

A fab song to be her last top 3 hit with though!
