IT'S OUT!!!!!

I have SO MANY THOUGHTS and I need to gather them before I post anything detailed but honestly it was like an amazing trip down memory lane, it felt so surreal seeing new content from so many of my favourite characters. Stiles would've improved it but, unlike what Twitter would have you think, it's not ruined by his absence at all. Entertained, thrilled, excited and distraught all at the same time, and it's definitely left the door open for a new spin-off or a future movie.

Okay here goes, needless to say there are MASSIVE MASSIVE SPOILERS in the post below!!! This is your time to look away!!

Of course, I've spent much of the last 24 hours reading stuff about the film, reliving it in my head, thinking about things, and my overriding emotion is still one of joy. Joy that we have Teen Wolf back, even if it's just for this one final movie to give us all a wonderful dose of nostalgia. The cheers I let out as every character popped up on screen for the first time (I got excited over EVERYONE), and the warm feeling of the familiar locations such as the school, the sheriff station and the Nemeton again. Reading Twitter has made me feel a bit sad, because a bunch of people don't feel the same. It's mostly the same people that decided they'd dislike it months back, when Dylan O'Brien was confirmed to not be appearing, and the drama around Arden Cho's salary surfaced (fair to be annoyed, it angered me too, but judge the film on its own merits and liking the film doesn't take away from how you feel about Arden's situation), so much of what I saw on the hashtag was negative. I couldn't disagree more.

The film succeeds primarily through the characters, much as the show always did. The plot isn't quite as indepth as previous Teen Wolf plots but obviously it's a shorter timeframe, and the Nogitsune wasn't as good a second time, but it's still a terrifying villain and I think it was handled pretty well. However, every actor seamlessly slotted back into their role, and the writing of each felt true to the characters. The scene between Melissa and Scott, and reunion of Scott and Lydia, Jackson's exasperated remarks, Malia being Malia, everything just felt natural and right. Tyler Hoechlin particularly delivered a brilliant performance of Derek as a father, and instantly, the camaraderie between Hoechlin and Vince Mattis was obvious.

As for the new characters, Vince Mattis as Eli was the star. It felt like they were setting up a potential spin-off with Eli as the star (they could easily have Tyler Posey and Crystal Reed as supporting actors in said show too), and I'd definitely watch. Eli was definitely based on Scott and Stiles from season 1, and his journey over the movie was a big factor in what made it work. The chemistry with Derek, with Sheriff Stilinski, and with Scott, was top notch. I'd love to see Eli in a new story soon, whether it be more Teen Wolf or a brand new spin-off. Amy Workman as Hikari was a good addition but felt very much "budget Kira", fulfilling basically the exact role Arden Cho would've had (intriguing that they perhaps may have made Liam and Kira a couple). There's scope for her character if we get any more Teen Wolf seeing as we know little about her so far.

Of course, the big talking point of the film was Allison's return, and I felt they handled it very well! I suppose they didn't want to go too in-depth into exploring the afterlife and how bardo works, but I liked that there was doubt as to whether it was really her or not. In fact, I fully expected her to not be the real Allison, but I'm thrilled she was! Seeing Scallison getting the happy ending they always deserved warmed my heart, and I don't think it diminishes Allison's death scene either, the impact of that was still huge on Scott and the pack for so many years (over 15 years in-universe). It feels right that they're together after all!

I was GOBSMACKED at the big twist at the end. I didn't think they'd kill any of the main characters off, not on what's basically a trip down memory lane, but wow, they really went there. Derek!!!!!!! It was definitely foreshadowed earlier in the play, with Scott saying he hadn't got round to having kids and him being the one to help Eli accept his wolf abilities, but I kept expecting Derek to have survived right to the final second. Perhaps he still has, there's potential for a get-out-of-jail-free card in a later movie/show if they wanted to bring him back, but they handled the death well and it was such a shock. I suppose that Tyler Hoechlin's availability is less than the others, so if they were to do another movie, there's no guarantee he'd be in it anyway (and Hoechlin was producer too so I expect he had a say in this).

I must admit, I didn't get how Mr Harris was still alive, but it was definitely a huge shock to see him, as well as Eaddy Mays as the vision of Victoria Argent! I'm not sure they needed to split Stydia up, but I guess there's hope for future movies and Dylan O'Brien will surely continue to decline the offer to return, so it's better than making up excuses for how Lydia's there all the time but Stiles never is. We definitely deserved to see Stydia together properly though! sad.gif Despite that, I liked how they explained it. Neither of them fell out of love. Other minor niggles are how underused Liam and Jackson were (but I'd rather have had them there than not at all so nothing major).

Oh and COACH REMAINS ICONIC. ASSES ON THE FIELD. Greenberg!!!!

Probably missed some stuff but genuinely, what a ride, and I can't wait to rewatch at some point soon. So much potential for a continuation too, and with it being the biggest debut for a movie on Paramount Plus, there definitely feels like a chance of more Teen Wolf at some point!!
