Updated top 20 sellers from the OCC with a few pieces of sales information:
http://www.officialcharts.com/chart-news/taylor-swifts-official-top-20-biggest-singles-in-the-uk-revealed__20273/

I can't believe "Bad Blood" is so low down in her top 10! Especially being below "Everything Has Changed", although I guess it's because it charted when streaming just started to become more popular than downloading.

Since article two and a half months ago:

Style: +21k (7k off gold!)
Love Story: +24k
Shake it off: +5k downloads, +4.9m streams

I knew you were trouble is 990k combined, we didn't get a figure last time! Coming for that millionaire status *.*

Welcome to New York has overtaken Both Of Us also!

So basically Love Story, Blank Space & I Knew You Were Trouble are all close to 2x Platinum? I'll try to get the exact figures in the next couple of days.

The UK really did Speak Now dirty!

It’s actually on higher sales than I thought it would’ve been though so it must’ve sold well over the years.

But to think of how big it was in US and winning AOTY i thought that would’ve at least seen it return to the top 75.

I feel like Lover will probably have sales of reputations level.

Im hoping we get some big promo though!!!

All her albums gold is good to see and some impressive single sales too.

She’s robbed of some singles #1s but those sales make up for where some tracks peaked.

how many #1s could she have had when she wasn’t on Spotify during 1989?
Bad Blood topped the sales chart didn’t it with the remix but did Shake It Off or Blank Space also do the same?

Speak Now didn't win AOTY, you might be thinking of Fearless.

In terms of #1's she missed, we will never really know because we have no idea just how well they'd have performed if they were on Spotify but in my opinion, none of them would have went #1. Back in 2014/15, streaming didn't add anywhere near the amount of units it adds to sales now. Shake It Off actually was on Spotify and reached #1 there but it was over a month after release. Regardless of it topping Spotify it still only reached #2 so I'm not sure SIO ever would have made it to #1. Blank Space was up against Thinking Out Loud so I honestly think it would have peaked at #2 like SIO instead of it's #4 peak. Bad Blood was #2 on sales although it didn't get exactly a full week. Maybe BB is the most likely but its hard to predict how big its initial streams would have been following release of the video/remix.

Posted by: UltraME! 9th August 2019, 10:18 AM

Iirc, I think blank space could've snatched it on that Xmas week (the one where Ed was 1 and union J we're 2 iirc) and Bad Blood could've got a week at one! Tho I feel SIO had the least chance despite being the biggest of the three, All about that bass was going far too strong then!

Thanks for that!

I remembered Bad Blood being an iTunes #1 for a while at the time when iTunes was the main factor in the charts.

I kind of wish her first #1 was something better tbh but I’m glad at the same time she finally managed one. I bet a lot of people who don’t follow charts would be surprised at Look What You Made Me Do being her only chart topper here.

Apologises for that mix up too! Idk why I always thought Speak Now won the Grammy. I think I’ve misunderstood something there.
I was thinking it seemed strange given how big Fearless was but that now makes sense now. And Speak Now also won a Grammy so still a winner in some ways.

Looking at what was #1 the week her #2 singles were released as interesting

Love Story was beaten by Kelly Clarkson My Life Would Suck Without You (Taylor’s probably outsold that song though)
I Knew You Were Trouble was beaten by Will.i.am and Britney Scream and Shout
Shake It Off was beaten by Meghan Trainor All About The Bass

It has indeed! Taken from the OCC article "Songs that lost their chart battle but are now bigger hits"

QUOTE
Taylor Swift vs Kelly Clarkson
Our lives really would suck without Kelly Clarkson having her only UK Number 1, although we imagine Taylor wasn't so pleased that Love Story missed out; she would have to wait another eight years to bag her first chart topper on the Official Singles Chart.

My Life Would Suck Without You charged to the top spot, with a lead of nearly 18,000 sales, although Taylor did score her first Top 10 hit in the process, so it's not all bad news. It gets even better for Taylor too. Since 2009, her Shakespeare-inspired single has been downloaded 712,000 times to Kelly's 400,000. Swifty sweeps up on streams too: Love Story's 56.3m swallows My Life's 18.3m.

Tbf it must have done a lot of trickle sales over the years

Posted by: Jordan Lee 8th May 2020, 01:09 AM

I meant to say this ages ago but her self titled album sales really shocked me! For a #81 peaking album that’s really good tbh must’ve done so well in trickle sales when she begun to get more popular but selling 167K is great.

I mean in context 167K would look like a decent year end total for a #1 album in 2020!

Love this - thanks so much for all the information! It always surprises me how low sometimes of her single peaks were from some of her best (IMO) songs!

I Don't Wanna Live Forever: 1,020,000
ME!: 712,000

So when all is said and done, all Taylor albums between Fearless and Evermore will end up as platinum or higher, with Fearless + albums between Red and Folklore all ending up with multi platinum certifications eventually. Not bad, especially for this climate and considering the fact that at one point her debut album sold 38 copies in its first week.

I did estimations for her future album certifications this decade based on the gains her catalogue made between August 2019 & April 2021 (between November 2014 & August 2019 for Speak Now!) and according to them:
1- Lover will go platinum in the next two weeks
2- Folklore will go platinum in April 2022
3- 1989 will go 5x platinum in late 2023
4- Speak Now will go platinum in early 2024
5- Evermore will go platinum in mid-2024
6- Red will go 3x platinum in early 2025
7- Reputation will go 2x platinum in mid-2025
8- Lover will go 2x platinum in early 2026
9- Folklore will go 2x platinum in late 2026
10- 1989 will go 6x platinum in early 2027
I took into the account any drops that may occur as the re-recordings begin to cannibalize the original albums' sales, but not any market changes. With pure sales for catalog albums rising, and Taylor being a great catalog seller, it is possible that these albums reach new milestones earlier than I predicted.

It really is crazy how much streaming has impacted the ability to reach certification thresholds. Getting a certified single is now pretty easy and many do it without even reaching the top 100 at all. But getting a certified album, never mind platinum, is now much more difficult than it used to be. I'd really love for Evermore to reach it!

Me too. I love Evermore and it will reach platinum eventually - I just think it’s going to take much longer because it wasn’t given the same push and single hype as the previous albums.

At its current rate, platinum is a lock by the end of February. It'll take a while, but I can see Evermore getting to platinum too eventually, probably by its third anniversary. Would be interesting to see if Red (Taylor's Version) can get to platinum in less time than Evermore, but it's hard to safely declare anything before the impact of the holiday seasons on sales goes away.

Updated UK Sales (as of 26 November 2021):

Songs:
Enchanted: 119,267 (should be around ~150,000 units sold by now)

Albums:
Red TV: 84,073 (115,400 as of now)
Folklore: 277,147 (289,000 as of now)
1989: 1,416,773 (1,427,000 as of now)
Evermore: 165,663 (176,000 as of now)
Lover: 323,982 (331,000 as of now)
Fearless TV: 64,445 (70,400 as of now)
Reputation: 482,285 (487,000 as of now)
Red (2012): 797,485 (801,000 as of now)
Speak Now: 293,001 (297,000 as now)

I also have estimates for her first two albums:
Debut: 187,000
Fearless: 667,000

By the end of this month, both Folklore and Speak Now should hit platinum certification in the UK. Enchanted will probably also hit silver certification before summer, very impressive for an album track from 2010. It would've debuted at no. 76 on the Official Singles Chart the week Red TV came out had it not been for the 3 track rule.

I love how well enchanted has done recently. It’s setting the perfect storm for when Speak Now TV is released.

Update to this:
1- Lover went platinum on 30 July 2021, as I predicted
2- Folklore will now go platinum in February 2022 (2 months faster than initially predicted)
3- Speak Now will go platinum in February 2022, 2 years (!) faster than initially predicted
4- 1989 will now go 5x platinum in late 2022 (1 year faster than initially predicted)
5- Evermore will go platinum in mid-2023 (1 year faster than initially predicted)
6- Reputation will go 2x platinum in mid-2024 (1 year faster than initially predicted)
7- Red will go 3x platinum in early 2025 (on par with the initial prediction)
8- Folklore will go 2x platinum in mid-2025 (1.5 years faster than predicted)
9- Lover will go 2x platinum in mid-2025 (0.75 years faster than initially predicted)
10- 1989 will go 6x platinum in early 2027 (on par with the initial prediction)

Very pleasantly surprised by the surge in catalogue sales Taylor saw over the past 6 months. It seems like for the entire months of September, October, and November Taylor's back catalogue was reaching new highs in terms of consumption via streaming. Speak Now in particular had a massive revival.

Hi! Does anybody have any estimation on when Love Story and Blank Space will reach 3x platinum?? Also, any prediction on which lover nonsingle will be certified next? My guess is either Paper Rings or IFTYE.

According to the OCC, Love Story had sold over 1,500,000 units by 19 November 2021, while according to Music Week it was at 1,338,000 units as of 19 February 2021. That means it's gaining at a rate of 4,928 units per week. Based on that, it'll take Love Story 55 more weeks till it goes 3x platinum. That means Love Story will probably go 3x platinum the week of its 14th release anniversary in the UK. We don't have that much information on Blank Space, but it was ranked as Taylor's fourth best selling song in the UK by the OCC the week Red TV came out, just behind I Knew You Were Trouble, which we know had sold around 1,450,000 units in the UK by then, and based on that one can assume Blank Space was over 1,400,000 units as of that week. Therefore, realistically speaking Blank Space should hit 3x platinum some time later this year, maybe around October. It also aligns with the fact that it's almost tripling Love Story's daily streams on Spotify and sporadically re-enters UK Spotify daily chart, so it hitting 3x platinum before Love Story makes sense.

Bonus prediction: Shake It Off was at 1,970,000 units as of 19 February 2021, and 2,200,000 units by 19 November 2021. Based on that, it should hit 4x platinum in October too. That means by its 8th anniversary, 1989 will be 5x platinum, with a 4x platinum song, 2 3x platinum songs, 5 platinum songs, and maybe 10 silver songs. Massive!

As for Lover non-singles, it makes absolute sense for I Forgot That You Existed to go silver next, followed by The Archer, followed by Paper Rings. Lover (song) should also go platinum this year, and Delicate and maybe even ...Ready For It? & Willow will follow suit.

Aww of course - I love reading your stats etc. and thanks for the detailed answer. Those figures for 1989 are insane. It must be one of the most successful ‘pop’ albums of all time wub.gif

I’m dying to see how well 1989 Taylor’s version is received / how much it sells - I wonder how much that will slow down the sales of the original though.

If I could get a signed copy to go with my signed copy of Red it would make my year. God imagine if I got a signed copy of Speak Now too!!! I’m actually more excited for the release of Speak Now however I know 1989 will have the bigger numbers.

Interesting to see that in the long run, Exile is more popular than Cardigan - just.
Despite Its low peak, Delicate has really gone on to ‘sell’ consistently.

Great set of sales info! Didn't realise Everything Has Changed would be above 22 as the latter feels like an absolute classic and part of popular culture now when turning 22! Also surprised to see Exile just ahead of Cardigan, presume this gap will only increase now. Would it have worked better as a first single perhaps?

Look What You Made Me Do coming for 1,000,000 sales is also surprising, always forget that it's actually a big hit despite it's marmite nature.

Posted by: London 17th February 2022, 02:43 PM

Everything has changed surprised me too - I didn’t realise it had sold so much.

I think either Cardigan or Exile would have made good first single choices as both were popular at the time. But I see your point though: was Cardigan only as popular because it was a single and if Exile had been pushed as a single, given just how popular it was despite it not being so, would it have gone on to perform much better than Cardigan did in those first few weeks?

This was a big surprise to me too. 'Everything Has Changed' sold 299k in 2013 and '22' sold 257k, so the gap has only increased since. Presumably Ed Sheeran featuring gives it more exposure? Still, one feels quite forgotten and the other remains relevant in pop culture.

No doubt a hit, but poor in terms of 2017 #1s as only it and charity single 'Bridge Over Troubled Water' are yet to pass 1m whilst most of the others are above 2m.

Surprised that was the case back in 2013 too! Knew Ed Sheeran would have some benefit but thought 22 would've been up there too rather than being necessarily surprised by the sales figure EHC has!

Good to get some context on LWYMMD! 2016/2017 was massive for sales figures if I remember right because of the different sales point ratios? Wasn't quite so wrong to be surprised by that one!

Definitely see why Cardigan was picked as single 1 but Exile perhaps would've stood out even more and created a bigger impact than Cardigan? Suppose Exile is the better album seller because of the feature so all has worked out and they both got top 10 peaks and several weeks in the top 40.

This doesn’t surprise me at all. It certainly hasn’t remained a fan favourite. I also just looked up the top 100 songs of 2017 and it ended 2017 as the 89th biggest selling song. That must have been one of (if not the) lowest selling #1 of the year.

If I'm not mistaken Taylor's overall certifications should be at 22.76M. Does anyone have any idea when Love Story (TV), WD (TV), and Mr. Perfectly Fine should reach Silver? I've noticed that when her songs post-reputation get 180M-230M streams on Spotify, they often reach 200K units in the UK. Also, I assume that ATW TV is getting really close to reaching gold certification. dance.gif

Her UK album chart performances are so consistent across her catalogue in general.

3 Top 40 albums this week

27 - Folklore (111 weeks on chart)
37 - 1989 (267 weeks on chart)
39 - Lover (142 weeks on chart)

Plus
59 - Evermore (74 weeks on chart)
70 - Reputation (77 weeks on chart)
77 - Red (Taylor’s Version) (35 weeks on chart)

All up in position from last week too! Impressive wub.gif

When 1989 is released as Taylor’s Version, I wonder if the original will still chart as high as this. Her streams are so high though week on week and her albums chart runs are looking so impressive!

Posted by: Taylor's Version 11th September 2022, 12:48 AM

I feel like folklore has allowed her older work to get much more recognition in the UK and Europe in general. Even august re-entered the singles chart at #96 this week. At this rate she's getting 4 album tracks to gold certifications sometime next year. I believe DBM, Enchanted, and Cruel Summer are around 300k units and August has very similar numbers on spotify and overall charts history.

Posted by: London 11th September 2022, 12:59 PM

Streaming queen. It’s interesting to see that Evermore is close to Reputations numbers.

I need to update the front pages, I just cba but I’ll get round to it! And updated sales figures send my way please !

QUOTE(Delicate @ Jan 2 2022, 02:18 AM) *

Update to this:
1- Reputation will go 2x platinum in June 2023 (1 year faster than last prediction)
2- Evermore will go platinum in September 2023 (3 months slower than last prediction)
3- Red (Taylor's Version) will go platinum in February 2024
4- Lover will go 2x platinum in September 2024 (0.75 years faster than last prediction)
5- Folklore will go 2x platinum in December 2024 (6 months faster than initially predicted)
6- Red will go 3x platinum in February 2025 (on par with initial prediction)
7- 1989 will go 6x platinum in mid-2026 (0.75 years faster than last predicted)

It's a little early to predict when Midnights is going to hit its next milestone (2x platinum), but since its already at 311,000 units less than a month after release, I wouldn't be surprised if it hits it as early as summer 2023, considering it only needs to sell around 10,000 units a week to get there and it's probably gonna remain above that for a fairly long time. That means Midnights is on track to outsell all of Taylor's post-1989 albums by the next summer, even faster than it'll do in the US.

Posted by: London 20th November 2022, 11:34 PM

That’s amazing for midnights - what an achievement already and such great predictions

Wildest Dreams is closing in on a million units sold and it only reached number 40 here, way lower than even Style.

Both these songs were a lot more popular than their chart placements suggested, since they peaked a lot lower because of their absence on Spotify. Had they been on Spotify, their digital sales (Style, for instance, is at nearly 250,000 digital downloads in the UK) would've been a lot lower and streams a lot higher.

The songs above it are:
1 SHAKE IT OFF
2 LOVE STORY
3 BLANK SPACE
4 I KNEW YOU WERE TROUBLE
5 WE ARE NEVER EVER GETTING BACK TOGETHER
6 I DON'T WANNA LIVE FOREVER (FIFTY SHADES
7 LOOK WHAT YOU MADE ME DO

9 BAD BLOOD
10 STYLE
11 EVERYTHING HAS CHANGED
12 ME TAYLOR SWIFT FT BRENDON URIE
13 YOU NEED TO CALM DOWN
14 YOU BELONG WITH ME
15 22

Everything from the 11th to the 15th spot is doing a fairly limited amount of recurrent sales (except maybe You Belong With Me), thanks to either a re-recording being out or because of generally poor longevity, so Lover shouldn't have much trouble going up to number 11. It's gonna be a little harder to get higher than that, but I do expect that Bad Blood will eventually be overtaken by Lover thanks to the latter's superior daily streams and the former getting a newer version that will detract attention from the original.

I wonder why they’re sharing old articles, it’s from October 2022 and the figures are already way out of date! Can’t of been hard to use updated figures

Since that list, "evermore" has been certified Platinum, and "Midnights" has been certified 2x Platinum.

They've updated the sales now:

QUOTE
12. Fearless (Taylor's Version)
Released: 2021
Official Albums Chart peak: Number 1
Total UK chart sales: 149,000
The first of Taylor's original six albums to be re-released and re-recorded following a very public falling out with her old record label Big Machine over the rights to their master recordings, Fearless (Taylor's Version) sees Taylor take ownership (literally) over her sophomore album's eclectic country-pop soundscape with a distinctly nostalgic lens.

11. Taylor Swift
Released: 2007
Official Albums Chart peak: Number 81
Total UK chart sales: 217,000
Everyone has to start somewhere. With cutesy tracks such as Tim McGraw, Teardrops On My Guitar and A Place In This World, Taylor Swift remains a fascinating insight into the genesis of a true superstar.

10. Red (Taylor's Version)
Released: 2021
Official Albums Chart peak: Number 1
Total UK chart sales: 256,000
Grap that red scarf, take a sip of your pumpkin spice lattee and get ready to watch the leaves change colour. Red (Taylor's Version) sees Tay revisit her masterful fourth album, the first instance which showed her fully embrace her pop hitmaking skills, as well as some of the most masterful songwriting of her career.

Of course, the centrepiece of the album is the long-mythologised 10 minute version of heart-tearing ballad All Too Well, which Taylor recasts from a sensitive and tender lament to a powerful odyssey of a relationship whose scars can be felt long after they were first made.

9. Evermore
Released: 2020
Official Albums Chart peak: Number 1
Total UK chart sales: 302,000
The folksy sister record to Folklore, Evermore takes a deeper dive into the mystical forest that Tay's 2020 isolation album built. Across tracks with Bon Iver and Haim, it sees Taylor become more and more fascinated with constructing labyrinthine fictional narratives in her songs, as opposed to strictly autobiographical ones.

8. Speak Now
Released: 2010
Official Albums Chart peak: Number 6
Total UK chart sales: 389,000
Written entirely by Taylor herself, Speak Now was formed after the success of Fearless, when some critics began to doubt that a teenager could really write songs that good without help.

And what did she do? Prove to them that she could do it entirely by herself.

7. folklore
Released: 2020
Official Albums Chart peak: Number 1
Total UK chart sales: 492,000
A surprise release during the height of COVID, folklore is an expansive and surprising body of work, even two years after its release. Finding the perfect collaborators in Jack Antonoff and Aaron Dessner of the National, many of folklore's tracks hum with enigma and mystery.

Intertwined within the album are three interconnected tracks (Cardigan, August and Betty) telling the story of three teenagers caught in a scandalous affair, told from three different perspectives. They rank among some of Taylor's greatest-ever accomplishments as both a lyricist and performer.

6. Lover
Released: 2019
Official Albums Chart peak: Number 1
Total UK chart sales: 526,000
Taking a deep inhale of breath after the chaos surrounding reputation, Lover finds Taylor back in a sugary-sweet and contemplative mood. Singles Me! and You Need To Calm Down may be the singer at her most gregarious, but it's the quiet hum of the title track, the under-scored synths of The Archer and the magnificent new-wave bounce of Cruel Summer (the hit single that never was...until it suddenly was) make Lover shine.

5. Midnights
Released: 2022
Official Albums Chart peak: Number 1
Total UK chart units: 611,000
Labyrinthine and complex, Midnights may have started off as a creative writing exercise for Taylor (with each of its thirteen tracks representing a sleepless night at different points in her life) but the end result is a charismatic and sometimes mysterious collection of songs that blend the fictional narratives Taylor experimented with during the pandemic with a blurred, off-centre reality.

Midnights' massive UK chart debut of 204,000 units was Taylor's biggest first week sales to date - and helped her secure one of 2022's biggest albums, just a few weeks after release. In 2023, Midnights has gone straight in at Number 5 on Taylor's all-time list, bolstered by 235,000 physical sales and album equivalent streams of 361,000 (her fourth best overall).

4. reputation
Released: 2017
Official Albums Chart peak: Number 1
Total UK chart sales: 642,000
There will be no explanation, there will just be reputation. So went the announcement of Taylor's incendiary sixth album. Misunderstood at the time of its release, the years have been nothing but kind to this complicated and un-compromising piece of pop craftmanship.

Because really, reputation is an album of two halves; the braggadocious first, mainly produced by Max Martin, sees Taylor flex a heel turn as a villainous alter-ego (I Did Something Bad, ...Ready For It?) and a more sombre second-half that sees Tay break down her walls and let us see the cracks behind the veneer.

Home to her first UK Number 1 single, Look What You Made Me Do, reputation is the ultimate proof that sometimes, you have to burn it all down to start again.

3. Fearless
Released: 2008
Official Albums Chart peak: Number 5
Total UK chart sales: 704,000
Jump in head first, Fearless. There's the lingering spectre of Shania Twain on Taylor's effervescent sophomore record. A thrillingly ambitious album that sees her pair her country roots with a bright-eyed pop vision that gave her a one-two punch of singles, Love Story and You Belong With Me, that changed the game forever.

2. Red
Released: 2012
Official Albums Chart peak: Number 1
Total UK chart sales: 848,000
Red represents the best of two worlds. It sees Taylor finessing her already established skill at penning confessional country ballads (this time infused with a heavy rock influence, such as State Of Grace and Holy Ground) as well as finding her ideal pop partners with Max Martin and Shellback (We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together, I Knew You Were Trouble).

Taylor's second-most successful album in the UK, Red has pushed more than 848,000 chart sales here. You can read more about how Taylor successfully pivoted to pop on Red here.

1. 1989
Released: 2014
Official Albums Chart peak: Number 1
Total UK chart sales: 1.6 million
The perfect pop album for the perfect pop star, 1989 was the key that enabled Taylor Swift to conquer the world.

There was no room for error or compromise on this hits-packed LP, Taylor's first official 'pop' album that pulls from so many disparate forms of pop, from icy minimalism (Blank Space), maximalist big-band (Shake It Off) and coquettish French disco (Style), it's a wonder that all that people ever doubted she could make the transition from country to pop and do it better than anyone had ever done it before.

1989 is, obviously, Taylor's biggest album in the UK, and it leaves no prisoners. It's gained over 1.6 million chart sales to date, as well as being her biggest physical seller (745,000), most digitally-downloaded (399,000) and most-streamed (album equivalent streams of 500,000) to date. Now that's what you call an imperial phase.

Nice to an updated list by the OCC!

I wonder if Midnights can become her second highest selling album here in combined units after 1989 eventually? I’m unsure on what the original Red and Fearless pull units wise weekly on average now they’ve been re-recorded as Taylor’s Versions though.

Those 2 have gone up 20k from the totals last November on the previous page whereas all the others have gone up significantly faster (bar debut poor debut)
