Kind of a weak year imo, not seen The Sessions so can't comment but two of these nominees didn't do much.
1 Anne Hathaway (undeniable winner, I Dreamed a Dream alone was enough to win) 2 Sally Field (did the emotional scenes well and was my favourite character to watch on-screen in this, she had some fun sassy moments too) 3 Jacki Weaver (she was a fun character and had some hilarious moments but it's hardly the toughest role ever) 4 Amy Adams (not memorable at all and outshined by the other acting nominees from this film) I'd have liked to have seen Helena Bonham Carter nominated for Les Mis, two nominations in her career doesn't seem enough. She sang, made the audience laugh and was also legitimately terrifying at times which was far more interesting than the bottom two nominees here. Maggie Smith was lots of fun in Marigold Hotel so it's a shame the nom here didn't happen after the SAG one, can't believe she hasn't been nominated in over 15 years I wanted it to happen the other hear with The Lady in the Van too, better than Charlotte Rampling Aside from those, I've not seen The Paperboy or Skyfall but Kidman and Dench are always great really so it would have been nice to see them get nominations too, I guess. |

Again, fairly weak year. Anne defo deserved the win, stunning performance.
Amy's weakest Oscar nominated role to date, but still a good performance. If she had more to do or more scenes like the "f***. f*** away" and bathroom ones then I think it could have been her year. Not seen the others, but Helen Hunt is an amazing actress and I've heard good things about the Sessions. Also wish Maggie Smith got in consideration. |
