BuzzJack Music Forum _ Television _ The Hit List

Posted by: ThePensmith 20th November 2018, 06:43 PM

The BBC have confirmed today details of 'Playlisters', a new music quiz show for Saturday evenings on BBC One to start next year. Rochelle Humes, from Buzzjack favourites The Saturdays, and her JLS turned Capital DJ hubby Marvin Humes are the hosts.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/mediacentre/latestnews/2018/playlisters

This sounds like a quite fun show actually! I love Rochelle and Marvin anyway so they sound like a good fit for this. I'm imagining this will be on the early Saturday evening slot that Pointless Celebrities usually occupies, given 'The Greatest Dancer' starts in January in the slot where 'Strictly' usually is.

Posted by: ThePensmith 9th May 2019, 03:55 PM

The show's now gonna be called 'The Hit List' and has been confirmed for a start date of Saturday, 25th May for a six week run on BBC One at 7:30pm: https://www.bbc.co.uk/mediacentre/proginfo/2019/22/the-hit-list

Reading the setup for the rounds for this, I would so smash a show like this - I'm sure a few Buzzjackers would too!

Oh this sounds great! Can’t wait to see it

This show feels so Buzzjack lmao

Hopefully it gets a second series and we can put a Buzzjack team together to go on *.*

I'm in if you want me. I'm virtually unbeatable on the 70's and good on the 60's and 80's too but would be let down by the newer stuff but you younger ones could do those. Used to go to pub pop quizzes when I lived up North but got banned from nearly all of them for winning every week.

Posted by: hermespice 12th May 2019, 03:55 PM

I will definitely be watching this. I miss “Never mind the buzzcocks” 😂

Posted by: gavindeejay 12th May 2019, 04:55 PM

Sounds good. Just wish they could of found better presenters tbh!

Posted by: Mack. 14th May 2019, 10:40 PM

Surely be better than BBC's other game show attempts on a Saturday night in the last few years. Who Dares Win has been the most successful one, I would say. Don't mention Len's Rhyming Game Show or whatever it was called.

Posted by: lewistgreen 25th May 2019, 08:39 PM

An ok start, it was fun but it did feel a little slow. Way too much chat and not enough music in my opinion.

Posted by: Mack. 25th May 2019, 08:50 PM

The first round was a lot slower to the other rounds.

Posted by: gavindeejay 25th May 2019, 08:52 PM

Is it worth catching up on?

The show is 45 mins long, but it does takes its time for the quiz to get going with 10 minutes worth of introduction and innate chat. First round is very slow, at this stage I was starting to yawn, last two rounds went pretty quick, its a bit like marmite, do I watch it or not.

I reckon its going to be one of those quiz shows that will get dropped after one season.

Posted by: Popchartfreak 26th May 2019, 08:07 AM

bring back an updated Pop Quiz! Pop stars showing how much (or little) they know about pop music. 30 minutes and good fun.

Posted by: Mack. 26th May 2019, 02:31 PM

It's just seemed to be another version of Name That Tune. They make it sound like an original concept.

Posted by: Jade 26th May 2019, 06:44 PM

Me too! I absolutely loved it. Probably needs a tiny bit of fine tuning in terms of how much time there is before they get to the rounds but as others have said but I was actually screaming the answers at the TV going 'I could do better than them'. If you're doing that at a quiz show it's a sign it's a winner.

Posted by: Chez Wombat 26th May 2019, 08:05 PM

I did love being able to almost play along myself given how much I know the subject matter, it was a bit too lovey-dovey and kitsch as a show though and yeah, way too much chatter, they need to find a way to balance the rounds better.

Confirmed at the end of tonight's episode - and last in series - that it will be returning for a second series later this year!

Anyone?

Tonight's winners were outstanding. I assume the closing remarks were recorded at the same time as the rest of the show. After all, if they wanted the series to go out on a high, they got their wish.

Posted by: Liаm 29th June 2019, 11:08 PM

This was really fun to watch and play along, I enjoyed it too! I'd love to go on it, I've been sat at home most episodes knowing all the ones they skip and thinking "I KNEW THAT I COULD HAVE GOT THAT MONEY" laugh.gif

Posted by: Suedehead2 30th June 2019, 12:34 AM

One of the best things about it is that they seem to have had a fairly rigorous selection process. The contestants have generally known their stuff.

Hah! My mate co-team member nearly got into a fight in a car park with a dick who thought it was "sad" that we always won the music round (cos I do quite like pop music) when we turned up every few weeks. So we stopped going there. The pub has closed down and been knocked down now. I like to think it's poetic justice for allowing knobs into their establishment laugh.gif

Not me. I've been on national Radio One Mike Read's Pop Quiz and I know when put under pressure in front of an audience my mind goes blank and I stand there like a goldfish laugh.gif It was a spur of the moment "I'll do it!" when the assistant went into the crowd at the live Roadshow and asked for volunteers and I was right by the barrier where she stood. Oops! Got a sweat shirt and mug (and I still won anyway once I got into the flow) biggrin.gif

Series 1 is also available to watch again on iPlayer.

Another celebrity edition has been confirmed for Christmas on BBC One. Air date TBC but here's your lineup for that one:

Posted by: Crazy Chris-tmas 21st December 2019, 10:36 PM

Wasn't shown at all and not a word as to when it will be.

Posted by: ChristmaSteve201 22nd December 2019, 12:16 PM

I'm sure it'll be on in the next few Saturday nights!

Posted by: lewis🎄green 22nd December 2019, 03:16 PM

The Celebrity one is on this Saturday 28th, I'll assume Episode 6 will be put on January 4th before The Greatest Dancer or something.

Posted by: ChristmaSteve201 22nd December 2019, 03:47 PM

They could easily combine this sort of show with 'Sounds Like Friday Night' and have a few live performances as part of the quiz and artists could promote their new material.

Posted by: Brett-Butler 22nd December 2019, 04:02 PM

That would be great if they could do something like that. The ratings for the 2nd series have been quite strong for a Saturday night, so I'm hoping there's a third series (and hopefully I can find someone from my neck of the woods to audition with me).

I have my eyes peeled on application castings for this for me and my sister, we’ve been itching to take part!

I knew of Adam from following each other on Twitter, didn't know the show was back til he tweeted he was on it, but glad it is, it's so fun playing along! Me and my friend want to apply too for next series, it'd be so fun to do.

Posted by: Suedehead2 26th September 2020, 07:37 PM

Well done Spiral! You were both amazingly good.

I thought they said all of the songs in the first round had made the top five but Summer Of '69 didn't even make the top forty.

That was Spiral?

He was amazing! Well done biggrin.gif

I thought Claire and Lee were pretty good and unlucky not to make the final.

I'd love to apply to this but apparently you can only do it with someone you live with or in your household bubble. My partner wouldn't want to be on it, so that's me out until they allow you to do it with friends.

Is that just because of Covid?

Yeh at least steps took it seriously the others seemed to be taking the piss in the first rounds!

Posted by: gooddelta 5th January 2022, 11:48 PM

I would imagine so, yeah, so hopefully it'll change after Omicron subsides. A lot of TV productions are still being very cautious with bubbles etc I think.

Posted by: Christmasteve201 5th January 2022, 11:50 PM

I would imagine if I went on it I would be terrible, although I know lots about the charts and can predict what episode of TOTP they are showing in the second round before it shows it I am not great at hearing a little clip of a song and being able to remember it. I would also freeze on tv and make it even worse and get obvious ones wrong 😬

Poor from which show? Because it's definitely not an Elvis song, just sounds like him and was allegedly intended for him to record. The Hit List played Mud's version so that was the answer to give.

Poor from Buzzcocks! Sorry, should've made that clearer, I'm well are that it's by Mud haha.

They had to complete the lyrics from the song, Greg Davies corrected them and said "xxxxxx from 'Lonely this Christmas' by Elvis.

And just before that, after reading lyrics from Slade's 'Merry Xmas Everybody', he said that it was by Shakin' Stevens!
