Hey, One Pound Fish Man is a worthy number 1 forever and always, will.i.am who?
will.I.am had a load of great songs towards the start of the decade!

QUOTE(Shepeteherd @ Dec 28 2019, 01:22 PM) *
Gangnam Style was a fab song, my mainstream song of the year back when I didn't really listen to much music wink.gif And of course One Pound Fish Man remains iconic.
I'll take that as another snap EOY #1 then.

I think it's been a very long while since I last took a listen to One Pound Fish. laugh.gif

2013 - Pt. I

#01
Vato Gonzalez vs. Lethal Bizzle & Donae'O "Not A Saint"
21/01/2013
5-1-1-2-3-15-10-13-37-45-x-46-x
11 weeks

Context: Minor UK chart hit thanks to Lethal Bizzle's appearance, it was a dance version of one of his tracks where he tries hard to make Dench a thing.
Did It Deserve #1? No, it's one of the year's weaker #1s.

#02
Avicii vs. Nicky Romero feat. Noonie Bao "I Could Be The One"
04/02/2013
3-2-2-3-1-1-2-2-1-1-1-6-18-42-x-29-33-x-46-x-6-19-22-22-26-34-38-74-x
25 weeks

Context: Avicii's first release of the year which got him a UK #1 and ended up as my EOY #3.
Did It Deserve #1? Definitely!

#03
Baauer "Harlem Shake"
18/02/2013
36-1-1-2-3-2-9-14-23-31-24-46-44-x
13 weeks

Context: Meme hit which shot to #1 when those videos were all over the internet.
Did It Deserve #1? No, the meme eventually got overdone and there's not a whole lot more to the song than its first 30 seconds that got used.

#04
Michael Woods "Platinum Chains"
25/03/2013
9-1-1-2-7-14-3-10-19-33-47-x-49-50-x
13 weeks

Context: Instrumental progressive house track discovered on R1 dance anthems and was later sent to BJSC although not by myself.
Did It Deserve #1? Yes.

#05
Duke Dumont feat. A*M*E "Need U (100%)"
08/04/2013
19-12-1-4-6-8-15-17-16-18-16-16-18-17-17-24-19-20-37-44-43-x
21 weeks

Context: Duke Dumont's breakthrough hit topping the UK chart.
Did It Deserve #1? Yes, and it's still one of his best.

#06
PSY "Gentleman"
15/04/2013
1-2-7-8-11-30-50-43-38-38-x
10 weeks

Context: Follow-up to 'Gangnam Style' which hype alone was going to get to #1 here. It denied Macklemore of a 2nd #1 with 'Can't Hold Us' although he'd eventually get one with 'These Days'.
Did It Deserve #1? No, like I said it only got there as it was the GS follow-up.

#07
Daft Punk feat. Pharrell Williams & Nile Rodgers "Get Lucky"
22/04/2013
1-1-1-3-2-1-1-1-2-1-3-6-4-18-6-9-15-12-15-29-26-45-x
22 weeks

Context: Daft Punk's massive comeback hit which was my EOY #2.
Did It Deserve #1? Definitely!

#08
Armin Van Buuren feat. Trevor Guthrie "This Is What It Feels Like"
13/05/2013
16-19-33-13-15-2-1-1-5-6-15-27-26-41-37-20-50-x
17 weeks

Context: Armin van Buuren's only UK hit of the decade, but it was amazing to see him even get that one hit - and with one of his best songs too.
Did It Deserve #1? Yes!

#09
Avicii feat. Aloe Blacc "Wake Me Up"
17/06/2013
1-4-1-1-1-1-1-1-2-2-2-4-2-1-3-4-10-7-16-15-21-28-34-22-18-18-43-45-6-17-24-42-43-49-45-38-26-46-x-3-17-19-21-28-43-45-58-61-64-79-92-x-33-52-x-84-x
53 weeks

Context: Avicii's massive #1 hit which led the 'True' era becoming his biggest track ever worldwide and also the EOY #1 for me.
Did It Deserve #1? Absolutely!

#10
Lana Del Rey vs. Cedric Gervais "Summertime Sadness"
12/08/2013
14-3-2-1-3-19-32-22-31-x
9 weeks

Context: A great remix of Lana Del Rey which gave her biggest UK hit and top track in my chart.
Did It Deserve #1? Yes in principle although 'Wake Me Up' is so good that it should've really just spent all that time between its 2nd and 3rd #1 runs at #1.

Lady GaGa "Applause"
19/08/2013
1-4-11-9-15-23-9-20-15-24-14-31-17-33-49-x-50-x
16 weeks

Context: Lady Gaga's third and final #1 of the decade – it led her 'Artpop' era and got to #1 mostly from hype.
Did It Deserve #1? No.

#12
Avicii "Speed (Burn & Lotus F1 Team Mix)"
26/08/2013
10-1-2-4-13-27-x-30-x
7 weeks

Context: Instrumental Avicii track released as a promo for "Burn & Lotus F1". It later served as the basis for his own remix of "Wake Me Up" and I must say it works better with the WMU vocal.
Did It Deserve #1? No.

#13
Tiesto, Mark Alston, Baggi Begovic & Jason Taylor feat. Teddy Geiger "Love And Run"
02/09/2013
46-30-39-29-1-1-12-32-x
8 weeks

Context: BJSC entry for me which DNQed. Had one of the fastest drop-offs from #1 ever too so can't say it was an undeserved one.
Did It Deserve #1? No.

#14
Avicii feat. Salem Al Fakir "You Make Me"
23/09/2013
2-1-1-4-5-4-2-7-14-16-15-22-33-x-33-45-x-15-64-58-80-x
19 weeks

Context: Official follow-up to "Wake Me Up" from Avicii which was always going to make #1 but it was most worth the hype. It did however not manage a #1 debut because of WMU returning for a week.
Did It Deserve #1? Yes!

#15
Martin Garrix "Animals"
07/10/2013
33-32-30-11-3-3-13-10-21-18-46-x-30-1-3-3-5-6-3-1-2-3-13-19-11-13-11-16-13-19-21-34-43-39-47-49-x
35 weeks

Context: Breakthrough hit from a young Martin Garrix becoming a snap #1 with the UK after having made #3 on its original release a few months earlier.
Did It Deserve #1? Definitely!

#16
Steve Aoki, Chris Lake & Tujamo "Boneless"
14/10/2013
22-28-21-2-1-1-1-1-6-15-21-24-39-x-17-36-34-x
16 weeks

Context: Another defining track of the big room era, becoming Steve Aoki's biggest club hit. It was also a BJSC entry for me where it was an undeserving DNQ.
Did It Deserve #1? Yes!

#17
Storm Queen feat. Damon C. Scott "Look Right Through (MK Vocal Mix)"
11/11/2013
8-5-7-14-22-14-2-8-5-1-2-3-4-9-14-13-7-13-23-43-45-x
21 weeks

Context: Big deep house track which was also a UK #1, bringing MK back into prominence but Storm Queen would never do anything else..
Did It Deserve #1? Yes!

#18
Avicii feat. Dan Tyminski "Hey Brother"
25/11/2013
12-28-x-1-1-1-1-2-1-1-1-3-2-6-9-10-3-14-21-36-30-35-45-x-7-37-46-48-72-85-86-x
29 weeks

Context: The next big Avicii single that was another huge global smash so of course ended up at #1 for many weeks here.
Did It Deserve #1? Definitely!

#19
Arty, Matisse & Sadko "Riot"
23/12/2013
1-4-7-14-31-44-x
6 weeks

Context: Progressive trance track that was very much love at first listen but fell off fast.
Did It Deserve #1? No.

2014 - Pt. I

#01
Fuse ODG ~ Million Pound Girl (Badder Than Bad)
19/01/2014
13-x-44-14-2-2-1-1-4-11-18-40-x
11 weeks

Context: Fuse's 2nd big hit in my chart after #2 hit 'Antenna' although I prefer that, this just took advantage of being a January release.
Did It Deserve #1? No.

#02
Chris Malinchak ~ If U Got It
03/02/2014
21-1-2-5-13-27-45-41-x-46-x
9 weeks

Context: Chris Malinchak's follow-up to #7 hit 'So Good To Me'... which ended up having a much shorter run.
Did It Deserve #1? No.

#03
Clean Bandit ~ Rather Be (feat. Jess Glynne)
10/02/2014
18-9-5-3-1-1-2-2-3-4-4-3-9-16-21-20-25-29-30-50-48-46-x
22 weeks

Context: Clean Bandit's breakthrough mega smash hit and EOY #4.
Did It Deserve #1? Definitely.

#04
Avicii ~ Addicted To You (feat. Audra Mae)
24/02/2014
5-29-x-43-26-23-22-x-12-1-8-8-5-3-5-4-9-20-33-42-x-19-82-65-68-95-x
24 weeks

Context: The 4th Avicii single from True and 4th one to make #1 too.
Did It Deserve #1? Despite its 1-8 drop I'd say definitely.

#05
Mr. Probz ~ Waves (Robin Schulz Remix)
03/03/2014
23-4-10-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-4-6-7-13-9-9-9-10-7-7-10-11-20-29-28-24-42-40-33-34-30-36-42-47-35-35-40-35-39-27-15-20-34-22-17-8-37-50-x
50 weeks

Context: Breakthrough hit for Robin Schulz who remixed 'Waves' for one hit wonder man Mr. Probz (although he'd make my chart again twice as a feature) and EOY #1. Also broke the record at the time for most weeks spent at #1 and had one of the longest chart runs of all time.
Did It Deserve #1? Definitely!!

#06
Ferreck Dawn & Redondo ~ Love Too Deep
05/05/2014
28-30-28-1-1-2-1-1-1-2-6-11-16-15-13-19-19-22-20-35-41-17-33-47-47-x-16-46-x
27 weeks

Context: Deep house track that I sent to BJSC prior to its R1 playlisting and chart flop. EOY #3.
Did It Deserve #1? Definitely.

#07
Ella Henderson ~ Ghost (Oliver Nelson Remix)
19/05/2014
17-3-1-4-8-10-12-25-31-35-47-x
11 weeks

Context: Ella Henderson's breakthrough hit which was given a nu-disco remix (although the original also got a few spins).
Did It Deserve #1? Yes.

#08
Mr. Belt & Wezol ~ Shiver
16/06/2014
40-1-4-4-4-7-10-24-20-20-28-31-39-x
13 weeks

Context: Future house track which was their first hit in my chart after they got signed to Spinnin Records.
Did It Deserve #1? Probably not especially as 'Gecko' (#3 peak and EOY #2) never made #1 so this ended up being the first future house #1.

#09
Kiesza ~ Giant In My Heart
23/06/2014
1-1-1-2-5-8-15-13-8-8-20-26-35-48-x
14 weeks

Context: Another case of "follow-up to a non-#1 that was #1 but not as big as the non-#1" although this certainly earned its place too - 'Hideaway' was just unlucky to be behind the biggest song of the year in 'Waves'.
Did It Deserve #1? Yes.

well it had a very short run and 'Rather Be' was at #3 just waiting to jump to #1! tongue.gif

(the week's #2 was David Guetta 'Shot Me Down' and that wouldn't have deserved #1 either)

bit of a shame he got washed away by the wave of the current UK rappers, MPG(BTB) and Antenna were amongst my faves of the rap hits of the time.
although his only other big hit with me was as the feature on the Sigala promo single 'Feels Like Home' in 2018 (#3 in my chart and also made my EOY top 100).

24 weeks

Context: Robin Schulz providing another one hit wonder act with their big hit (and unlike Mr. Probz they never returned to my chart even as a feature - I don't think I've even heard another song of theirs).
Did It Deserve #1? Yes.

#11
Moko ~ Your Love
28/07/2014
2-1-1-1-1-1-10-9-5-12-31-37-50-50-x
14 weeks

Context: Off the back of her guest vocal for Chase & Status came this much better track which I was convinced would give her a breakout solo hit but it wasn't to be sadly.
Did It Deserve #1? Yes.

#12
Wankelmut & Emma Louise ~ My Head Is A Jungle (MK Remix)
01/09/2014

22/09/2014

Did It Deserve #1? Yes.

20/10/2014

35 weeks

Context: Tropical house track that brought Felix Jaehn into prominence and gave Omi his one hit, eventually reaching UK #1 a few months into the following year which brought it back to #2 in its second run.
Did It Deserve #1? Definitely - was a bit unlucky to only have one week on top.

and that's the first half of the decade done - although we're over half way there - the second half won't take as long however with just 67 #1s in comparison to the 92 that have been covered so far.

It's kind of surprising that Fuse ODG stopped having hits considering the likes of J Hus and NSG that have had big hits since he fell off (not to mention Drake culture vulturing afrobeat). 'Boa Me' deserved better. x

There are so many Avicii #1s here that I didn't even know existed laugh.gif

I was always surprised Boa Me didn't even go top 40 considering the Ed feature although it wasn't a huge fave of mine.
and believe me there'll be even more Avicii songs you've never heard of still to come - he has 12 #1s between 2015-19.

Not surprised to hear you're a fan of that actually. tongue.gif Glad you like a fair few of my #1s so far.

I haven't heard anything from Wankelmut in a while although I'm not fussed on him, MK was the real selling point of that particular song.

Thermo's hot hits | 2010s Top 1000 | EOD 2010-2019

The Number Ones Recap will be resuming at some point but I'm too excited to wait now that the Chart of the Decade is... finally ready! cheer.gif

As it's an End of Decade special instead of a Top 250 as I normally do for the year it will be expanding to 1000! In theory this means we could see 100 songs from each year of the decade, but that most certainly won't be the case (2010 particularly will be under-represented). There'll even be a few songs from other decades thrown in the mix as this is a chart based on what I've been listening to the most (I did think about starring out old songs but there's only about 60 of them and a few of those I didn't discover until the 2010s anyway).

What to expect? Well firstly there'll be a load of Avicii - he has 39 entries. But will he have the #1? ohmy.gif Other artists we'll be seeing a lot from include Armin van Buuren, Calvin Harris, David Guetta, Disclosure, Drake, Gareth Emery and Rihanna.

The first few sections will have very limited commentary otherwise we'll be here all year but I'll link to YouTube (click on the number if it's underlined) some songs you may have not heard of.

Chart runs will be top 50 only as sourced from my Chart Runs thread. Dates are when the song entered the chart (unless the song did not chart, then I'll just put its year of release). Tiebreaks will be decided my which songs I prefer.

And finally before we start let's take a look at the honourable mentions - 25 songs passed 500k sales (made up of chart points and playcount) but failed to reach the Top 1000.

QUOTE(Sergej @ Jan 3 2020, 01:01 PM) *
8. Sak Noel - Loca People It became huge for me during my vacation in Bulgaria.
9. Loreen - Euphoria I think everyone knew when they first heard it, that it would win the ESC this year.
21. Psy - Gangnam Style The only viral hit, that is very likeable and catchy!
I imagine it must have been huge in Europe, it didn't feel all that big here despite going to #1 though, it had a short run.
yep, it really was a once in a generation type hit for Eurovision, we may never get anything quite like it ever again.
it certainly was my fave of the 'viral hits' this decade.

thanks!
