Take That have just posted a tweet saying: TOMORROW #WONDERLAND
Looks like the big reveal is about to happen!!
Maybe they do a Christmas song album. I am sure this will would be a blockbuster
Album cover
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CvXk45qWYAAzzdk.jpg
Looks like a new studio album and not a greatest hits package which is good news. Can't wait.
I like the cover and the name of the album. Sounds promising and back to the Circus style
Love that cover.. I wish they would hurry up with the reveal.. Tomorrow is almost over hahaha
Wonderland is the name of the album and the tour! Tour on sale on Friday, album out 17th March. Bit disappointed that they are losing Xmas sales. Wonder why they've delayed it?
Maybe they've delayed album till next year to avoid going up against Robbie.
Surely it's because that is when the TV series Let it Shine will end?
It will have been on prime time TV for six weeks. Perfect promo. Then release the album in time for Mothers Day. Sounds like good marketing.
I was about to say, they'll time it with when Let it Shine is on TV still. Perfect promo opportunity. Will be booking for the tour, All Saints are supporting them as well!
I really like the album cover and title. But March feels so far away! I had hoped to get some new music sooner than that.
I will probably have to give the tour next year a miss, don't think that I can afford to travel this time Hoping for some European dates closer to my country.
Let It Shine will have long ended before the album drops
I'm afraid this was a very bad move for them
I hope this, at least, means we'll be getting 2 or 3 singles before the album release.
I like the album cover, i am disappointed we are not getting the album in the coming weeks but they obviously have reasons for holding it back, if nothing else they are almost guaranteed another number 1 releasing at that time of year even if opening sales are lower than three achieved.
I hope they release at least 2 singles prior to the album and line up good promotion. It is a little strange they announce the album title and tour but yet no word of a single.
Truly disappointed we will not have the album earlier. I do believe they will lose on on crucial Christmas sales.
Has any tracklist been announced yet for the new album? I do like the cover but I'm also disappointed its not being released in Q4. I think its the first time certainly in the new era they haven't released a new studio album in Q4.
Indeed, the album might open on 50k or less with the further eroded hype and the timing of the release, but that should be more than enough for #1, whereas I can't really see a gap in the schedule in the run up to Xmas where they'd have likely achieved another #1. I guess that's important to them this time.
I'd love to see them get another #1 single too but it's a pipe dream now with streaming, a top 10 would be an incredible achievement but I suspect a low top 40 is more likely, going by the performance of Hey Boy and Cry.
For the record, These Days peaked at #20 on the streaming chart...
Lets hope the lead single gets huge download sales somehow and that there's a physical, but even so they'll probably have an uphill struggle breaking the top 20.
A top 10 single is my hope for the lead single and if they got a second top 40 hit i would be happy, i know the days of hit singles for them are gonna be few and far between but These Days done so well in the new era so there is still hope.
I think the time of year they are releasing should secure them another number 1 but it would be lovely if it could open on 100,000 plus. We saw a huge decline in the sales for Three so this album will really tell if the decline will continue, for now my hope for the album is number 1 and it for at the least to go platinum. The sound they go with is now crucial, i still believe (maybe naively) that a good killer ballad could attract interest in the album, but i have a feeling this album will be again experimental as i think the boys feel they have nothing to prove and will have made an album they are happy with rather than just delivering a sound they know will work.
I would expect them to go #1 without a doubt if it released in Q4. It would still sell upwards of 100,000. We'll see how many sales the pre sale tour code offer generates in advance. Platinum should still be a realistic target
Hopefully, i wonder will they benefit from Mothers Day Sales?
Wouldn't they miss out on the Mothers Day sales at the time they are releasing.
The album could benefit in quarter 4 of next year if the Greatest Hits goes ahead and the whole hype of the 25 year anniversary, maybe that is the thinking behind the release strategy for the album.
But then, technically they will release two albums next year. Wonderland and GH
Ya, Wonderland will be out only about 7 months before The Greatest Hits comes out. If the Greatest Hits era is big it should benefit Wonderland as Pippa said in q4.
If the Greatest Hits gets great promotion and press coverage that should happen with Wonderland, i would hope the Greatest Hits era/25th Anniversary should get a lot of coverage and i would hope in the lines of a tv special.
Take That Thatters@TT_Thatters
NEWS UPDATE @takethat 's new single #Wonderland is to feature in the new @johnlewisretail #2016 #Christmas #Advert . To be released soon...
Was just about to say! This could be fantastic for them!
I'm hoping it can get them a new hit worldwide.
Does this mean they are the new John Lewis song for this year? This would be wonderful news.
Those were the rumours yesterday, I hope they're true.
I would be thrilled if its true. My only concern or query is, isnt the John Lewis add always a cover version, am i correct in saying that?
This would be brill if its true as the song from the John Lewis advert usually goes top 10. Ya im the same as Pippa, isnt it always a cover version though, maybe its not set in stone and if a new songs fitted what they are looking for they would use it so thats what may be happening here.
This is something im hoping is true as it would really boost their chances of having a big hit.
How did the rumour start out of interest?
Smash Hits
@SmashHits_
We think @takethat fans might have an interest in this years @johnlewisretail Christmas advert
I don't think TT would go for a cover. The rumours are that the new single, Wonderland, is being used for the ad.
This has such huge potential if true.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L73J4Azuu68
The John Lewis ad music has been confirmed...and it's not Take That
I had a feeling it was too good to be true.
Ah...that's a shame. Wonder what was behind the rumour then?
Yes, i would wonder the same. I would think we will be getting no new releases from Take That in 2016.
Dying to hear some news on the new single!
Did anyone manage to get tickets to the tour?
I am too, i had hope we would get a single this side of 2017
Looking at the sales over the past few weeks, I'm starting to get worried. They're atrocious, especially considering they're coming from artists who used to go gold in their first week of sales.
I certainly hope TT's album won't suffer the same fate.
I wonder what the preorders are...maybe 40k? First day sales of III were 86k I think...
First day sales of III were over 90k if I remember correctly. I know that they sold almost 150k in the 1st week.
If they manage 100k in March I'll be surprised, why they didn't release in Nov or Dec I just don't know
They should have released in Q4 for better sales definitely. There also isn't as much competition this year as usual in the album market so it could have gone in their favour. I guess the album just isn't finished and that's why we aren't getting it sooner.
Let's hope LIS will help increase the number of pre-orders. At this point, I'd be happy if they managed to equal the sales of III.
It's shocking that Emily Sande didn't manage to sell 50k in her first week. Actually, it's shocking that big names don't manage to sell 100k in the 1st week anymore.
I heard though I don't know if it's true that only three albums have gone Platinum this year in the UK (300,000).
I read it in an interview with a British artist and they were discussing what it means to be successful today and they mentioned only three albums have gone platinum in the UK this year. Am pretty sure that's what they said.
I know it's bad but I hope this doesn't mean like in the vast majority of other countries the certs levels are lowered in the UK.
Yes, only 3 albums
http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=195555
It is worth remembering none of the albums listed below were released this year with the exception of Drake and Beyonce, all the others were released last year and had sales achieved prior to this year (separate from these totals)
+ David Bowie.
So 3 albums
How bizarre that the sales have changed so much. Do we reckon it's likely that the BPI might review the certificate thresholds if this continues?
I cant see BPI changing the certificate thresholds as they are very fair as it is.
This year has generally been a quiet year for big album releases. The Q4 schedule seems much thinner on the ground than usual so not surprised about sales.
Little Mix have achieved amazing sales, which proves that, with a good single, you can still get people to buy albums.
This means TT have to pick up very carefully their 1st single and promote it as much as they can.
And change the release date. so it coincides with Mother's Day sales.
Little Mix has done amazingly well. In my mind they are up there with the spice girls as the best British girl band! Makes it sweeter knowing they were found during Gary's XF stint!
Not sure if anyone saw Sunday Brunch, but Gary was saying that he was putting the final tweaks to the album on Sat evening and that it's going to mastering this week!
I am looking forward to the album but disappointed with the wait. I have been trying to convince myself of the saying, all good things come to those who wait.
I don't think I've ever enjoyed a cooking show more Who knew salad massages could be so fascinating?!
Although I agree that they should have released the album now, I kinda admire them for distancing themselves from the XF and doing it all on their own. Nothing good can come from the association with The XF anymore. If they had released now, they would have, without any doubt, performed on the show.
PS: I hope Dylan62 is ok and she hasn't had any health or family problems.
We're a small group here and I got used to all of you
I too hope Dylan62 is ok, hopefully we see posts soon to let us know.
Hope everything's well, Dylan. As Milly says, we're a small knit unit here, so it's nice that this forum has a friendship feel to it as well as everything else
Hope all is well from me too.
We really should now start hearing news on the new single and further information on the album.
According to Amazon, their single, "Giants", will be released on February 10th
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Giants-Take-That/dp/B01NAUBXDC/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1484878427&sr=8-4
TT is appearing on The Late Late Show With James Corden next week
http://pbs.twimg.com/media/C2hoAAHXAAAZsk4.jpg
Appearing on US TV would be amazing for them as they haven't done it since the Olympics closing ceremony coverage. The last time they were actually interviewed in the States was way back in late 1995 during 'Back For Good' promotion.
I wonder if it'll be interview and music performance possibly?
I hope it is true about Giants getting a February 10th release as that is not too long a wait at all.
On air on sale, it would make sense, just in time for the live shows of Let It Shine. Can't wait to hear it
They will need to promote outside Let It Shine, but will Gary have the time? I dont watch the Voice so i was wondering do they have performance slots on the show?
Seems that the single and performance went down really well yesterday eve at the Late Late Show.
Frustratingly, no one is revealing what they sung etc...just that it is classic TT
I think it will Rule the World or Back for Good.
it was a brand new song from Wonderland apparently. They are also doing Carpool Karaoke as well! http://linkis.com/www.mirror.co.uk/tv/1BzL5
The first single from Wonderland, Giants, will hit radio on 17 Feb!
Wonderland track list:
Wonderland
Giants
New Day
Lucky Star
And the Band Plays
Superstar
Hope
River
The Last Poet
Every Revolution
It's All for You
The last Poet is one im hedging my beats will be a lead by Howard, these style names of songs usually are connected to Howard.
Now you mention it, you could be right. I initially thought it would be a Mark lead
Does anyone know what TBA means? Only 2 songs appear to be written by the boys, the rest are credited to TBA.
I believe it means 'to be announced', they'll have written all the songs I'm sure
There will be 2 CD singles for Giants. A 4 track featuring live songs and 2 track single featuring a new track called loving or leaving.
The singles are now for pre-order on HMV and Amazon UK.
And from the TT website! You can get both CDs (one will be signed) for Ł4.99 on their website
HMV have a similar offer. I'm glad they are trying to push the boat out more with this era as we got no new b sides from the last era.
Surprising that there's a month gap between the single and the album though...
Im loving the news on the cd single release, i want the live songs,i hope this is a sign they are going to push this era. With Three not selling near as well as expected based on previous album sales maybe they know they will have to put more effort in this time with promotion.
I must order my cd singles now.
There is very little hype/build up to the new single, i am worried, as with a lead single there should be more excitement at this late stage.
I just pre-ordered both Giants singles, I really hope it's a good track!
I think it's worth the money for the live tracks and b-side too though, and the novelty of getting a physical single again.
The cd single format is wonderful. My query is where the live versions are from, usually it states live from.....
Yep! Relight my fire, Cry and something else (can't remember!)
1 day till we hear the single! Apparently it's a Gary vocal
Really looking forward to Giants tomorrow!
The album has been moved back a week to March 24th, they're really hoping for that #1...still not sure if Ed Sheeran will have died down enough by then but it gives them more of a chance certainly.
I was wondering why they moved it back...they easily beat Ed when III was released, so can't see why they'd be worried now.
Loving the album cover!! Have you all seen it? Very Beatles/ Sgt Pepper
On my second listen already and I have to say it's fairly catchy!
Agreed! I'm really liking it! They all sound fantastic on it! Hope this is a hit!
It's a strong lead single! Reminds me of Midnight City by M83 but with a classic TT style chorus on top.
It's very accessible so it will most likely be a hit to some degree.
Their best track to date? I think so!
And it gets better every time you hear it!
This is very strong. Could easily be a OneRepublic track but that's no bad thing, I see them in a somewhat similar lane now and this is very strong for all of the same reasons I enjoy more OneRepublic in that anthemic, stadium chorus type way. Impressed, as I find them quite hit and miss.
This is fantastic!! One of their best for me already, and that's high praise indeed
I think this will be a massive hit ngl.
I really hope so! It's up to #8 on iTunes now
The track is really instant positive and catchy and easy on the ear. It does sound like a hit to me but they won't have one without a big push as they are no longer in the Justin Bieber phase of their career.
In terms of lead singles from studio albums I'd rank them:
1.The Flood
2.Patience
3.GIANTS (has potential to go higher up for me)
4.Sure
5.These Days
6.Greatest Day
7.Why Can't I Wake Up With You?
8.Do What U Like
I thought WCIWUWY was the lead as the slower version was an album track but not released in that form as a single. However the remix version was from the Everything Changes album making it a different song in terms of style and length. Could It Be Magic was the 7th and last single released from the first, however again in a single remix form.
WCIWUWY is classed as the first from Everything Changes as Take That still hold the record for most top 10 singles by a group from one album in UK - 1.WCIWUWY 2.Pray 3.Relight My Fire 4.Babe 5.Everything Changes 6.Love Ain't Here Anymore.
Really good new song. Hope it does well for them. No4 on iTunes now.
Yes, you're spot on about WCIWUWY - a shame it didn't top the charts at the time.
Reviews of Giants seem to be positive across the board! Issue is with streaming and the Ed Sheeran machine. Top 10 hopefully is within reach
Strong start on itunes for Giants, but i worry streaming will crucify it. If they can reach top 10 officially it would be wonderful.
Really love this on first listen, I agree about the M83 comparison, a very good thing indeed, it sounds so rousing and anthemic <3 Sounds quite distinctive within the styles of the charts atm which is a good thing (thank GOD they haven't jumped on the tropical bandwagon *shudders*)
98 RE 210 Take That ~ Never Forget - The Ultimate Collection
Good to see them make a chart return the week before the single charts, i was not expecting this so the surprise was greater.
Great stuff!!
Really good interview from fearne with the guys!
Fast forward to 1 minute:
https://youtu.be/cMk2f8V1kB8
I like it but i dont love it, maybe it will grow on me. My problem is, Giants could easily be part of the Three era and we know that this could be a problem as it didnt gel as well with the public as other material. These Days i loved on first listen and still love, im not feeling that with Giants but it could grow on me as i listen to it more.
Based on Giants and if the album is in that direction i cant see the album selling even as good as Three. Giants doesnt have the sound that people loved Take That for, maybe other songs on the album will but if the album hasnt they really arent tuned in with what the public want from them. Maybe they dont care, maybe they are making the music they enjoy rather than making music to get big sales and with the huge career they have had i understand that too.
On a positive note, nice to see the ultimate collection back in the charts and adding to its already incredible sales.
I like Giants, but I'm not mad about it.
I'm ADORING, though, Loving or Leaving. That, for me, is what TT is all about. Great lyrics, good melody, gorgeous, pure vocals. I know it wouldn't have worked as a single, but I much prefer it to Giants and I hope we get to hear it live.
Deluxe bonus tracks have been confirmed as follows;
Don't give up on me
Up
Come on love
Cry with Sigma
I'm glad the Sigma collobaration has been included!
Has anyone heard the b side to Giants? I like it! As Milly says, classic TT
I can't say I'm impressed, but anything's better than 'Greatest Day' at least.
I'm still willing it to do well for them though, in this day and age it'd be nice to see a "heritage" act beat the odds.
I like Giants but I don't love it like I immediately did with These Days, and still do. But we'll see, maybe it will grow on me.I haven't heard Loving or Leaving yet. Hope we will get the video for Giants soon.
Jay, can you please help me with the lyrics for Loving or Leaving?
I simply can't understand some words:
All the barriers are down
Now there's no words guiding me
There was a slow descent
'T was a show of intentions
By me
Every secret's been sought/sold???
Broken every nail holding on
And now the painful silence
Lord's only guidance
For me
Chorus:
Are you giving in, giving in
To please
Make it overblown ??? and obvious
Are you loving me
Or trying to leave me?
Are you loving me
Or trying to leave me?
Loving or leaving?
All my weapons are blunt
Days alone, nights are cruel,
There's a motion going???
Of pure admiration
For your autonomy
And I hope you saw blood????on my toe???
There's a reason I can't stay too long
Are you catching waves or swimming out to sea
You keep it on the calf ???
And about us
Are you loving me
Or trying to leave me? - bis
LOving or leaving?
Loving, leaving, hiding or seeing
Tied up out here alone with me
Loving, leaving,
Too late of being
???????
Are you telling me
Are you loving me
Or trying to leave me?
I don't know about you, guys, but my frustration levels are off the charts. How could they not perform Giants on Let It Shine? They killed all chances that song had of charting decently.
I think they are in a tricky situation as they can't over promote Take That as that would be seen as exploiting the show for personal gains.
The TT medley and them singing Shine was pretty much all of the TT they could have done tonight otherwise there would have been an even bigger backlash than there already is.
I love the show and TT music but I can also see where others are coming from the fact hey have been given weeks of prime time TV exposure to publicise this show and also TT music.
They have to balance how much they do and have it weighted proportionally hence why the acts aren't singing TT songs for the most part.
I understand they need to balance the show, but maybe one of the acts could have sang Giants was the most they could push for, for this single.
Giants is starting to fall fast, im wondering will they even beat the peak of Cry now.
Then why let it slip to the press that they'd be performing Giants tonight? Lots of fans were left disappointed. The Shine performance looked like it had been put together at the last minute and Mark sounded not good at all. I found the whole performance a bit pointless, tbh.
If they can't perform TT songs on a show about a TT musical, then where can they?
Most of the haters have turned off anyway, so the backlash wouldn't have been bigger than normally, imo.
I'm very frustrated that they didn't do Giants, agree with Milly, it was the perfect chance to ensure top 10 placement
It would have made sense to have performed Giants, i just watched the show back now and if they are performing it shouldnt matter what song they sing as the show is essentially about Take That. Again, the promotion can be questioned and if they dont pull out the stops on the lead single, when will they is my worry.
Is the CD single in HMV?
It would have been great if they had performed Giants tonight, but I can see why they didn't. I think Nirvanamusic explains the dilemma very well. Also, maybe it wasn't their own decision to not perform Giants? Like Nirvanamusic said, TT and their music are already given lots of exposure thanks to Let It Shine. Had they also been given the oppurtunity to perform their brand new single on the show it might have been a bit too much for a public service channel like BBC.
Maybe it's just me, but, for a show about TT's music, I sure didn't hear many TT songs. I heard more TT songs in the background of the X Factor than on this show.
I'm pretty sure the press didn't infer out of the blue that they'd be performing Giants on the show. The question is: what happened that they had to backtrack at the last minute?
Maybe they do want to be careful with not being over-exposed by the BBC, but then they should explore other venues of promotion. This has never happened before, that the lead single gets absolutely NO promotion at all.
I don't think it was a last minute decision to perform Shine last night. I'm pretty sure that I read earlier this week that Shine was the song TT was going to perform together with the groups.
I agree about the lack of promotion, it's really bad. I wonder how they reason regarding promotion, what their plan is.
So frustrating that the single is dropping like a stone in iTunes and they chose not to promote it properly
Just been listening to the CD singles, I like Loving Or Leaving but it's nothing we haven't heard many times before, I far prefer Giants.
The live version of Relight My Fire I had to skip, the first two minutes are just Lulu wailing
On the other hand the live version of Rule The World is incredible as ever, the song never gets old.
No13 on iTunes now and only been out 3 days. Not a good sign. I think they may miss top 10 now and possibly top 20 even. The days of having a big hit with their first song from an album are definitely over sadly.
I think this was all a given really, These Days came out just before the streaming era really went stratospheric, it never did particularly well on streaming (not sure it even went top 20 on that chart!). It's frustrating that there's no promo this week but it would have only probably improved the entry position by 2-3 places, and there's little point splitting hairs over a #17 instead of #20 debut.
All we can do now is just enjoy the music and hope that the albums still sell well.
If it's lucky Giants will have an extended run in the top 75, like Robbie's Love My Life, but that only got to that stage due to MASSES of promo and airplay from commercial radio.
Surprisingly, it's not streaming holding them down this time. Somebody on the main forum posted that Giants was #59 on Spotify yesterday, which has never happened before.
I don't think the difference promotion could make is very small. With SOME promotion, they could easily go top 10, if not top 5. BUt this discussion makes no sense now anymore, considering they don't seem willing to promote at all.
There was an interview on the radio yesterday where Gary said they don't care about charts anymore. Personally, I don't believe him, after seeing how much effort he puts into promoting The Girls and LIS- when he's doing a project, he's very passionate about it and he usually wants it to be successful. Something else must be happening. Maybe it has something to do with Howard's baby being about to be born, but in this case, why not postpone the release?!!
I wish TT would be as good at promoting their albums as Gary is at promoting all his other projects.
I agree with you, Gooddelta. Loving or Leaving isn't very original - it could have easily fitted on III, but it's a very beautiful song. It would have never worked as a single, but I'm fonder of it than of Giants.
The thing is they may not care about the singles chart anymore however a good strong successful lead off single (top 10) then translates into better album sales. That is something they do care about. I know this sounds ridiculous but it also makes their singles discography look really bad not charting in UK/the other places featured on it, it looks like a major drop off has happened.
They may be waiting for mid week to drop the video but am not sure how much of a boost it'll be however I know certain music channels really like TT and will play the music video on rotation.
To give Westlife credit their last two studio albums in 2009/2010 they released ONE single only before the album came out and these singles charted at #2 and #10 with heavy promotion. If Giants is the only single released off the album really go for it. Is a few weeks of promotion for the single which would ultimately benefit the album really that hard? Or do they feel their past and status now rises them above promotion on differing TV shows?
I agree with above post as a 40+ act it really is hard on the singles chart. I'm more confused/annoyed with this confusing anniversary which is getting changed from here to there and back again. It would be great for a greatest hits vol 2/25th year best of to come out as would be such a great record to have. This again seems to be all dependant on Robbie if I were to quess as he mentioned he couldn't do it this year as he has a tour to do.
Screaming that they performed Shine! They want this to flop then? LOLLLL
It's getting more and more frustrating. Knowing that they're #4 in the midweeks doesn't help at all, cause it just emphasizes what a missed opportunity this is.
Giants is heads and shoulders above Ed's new song and it deserved a proper promotion.
The only reason I can think of for this lack of promotion is that they're saving it for the album release. In the past, the album was released immediately after the lead single, which helped organize the promotion.
Although, this could have been the perfect opportunity for them to release the 2nd single before the album and it wouldn't have impeded the Giants promotion.
Giants they may possibly view as a form of buzz single and possibly release another single quickly that they will promote.
Anyone else finding it hard to predict what sales the album will achieve in week 1, i am slightly apprehensive it will just about manage 100,000.
So far, given the fact that the single isn't a total disaster and has achieved, with no promotion, way better sales than Party Like A Russian, I'm hoping that the album too will have better opening figures than Robbie's. It remains to be seen whether they choose to promote the album or not.
I wonder if TT will also chart at number one with their single and album like Robbie did outside of the UK where PLAR went gold in several countries. LML and the album did the same.
http://www.digitalspy.com/music/news/a821761/take-that-gary-barlow-wants-robbie-williams-jason-orange-back-in-band/
Looks like the 25th anniversary isnt or should i say hasn't happened by reading this. If the story running is true, i would think there will be no new Greatest Hits package before the 30th anniversary. Going by the traditional gaps in their albums we would get one more studio album after Wonderland then we will stepping towards the 30th anniversary.
I can't see the album selling 100k. Maybe 60-70k though given the time of year and it will probably chart at no2 behind Ed Sheeran. According to Amazon, the album release date has been pushed back a week to 24th March.
Gary himself announced that the album would be released on the 24th of March...possibly because of Ed's release.
I know that sales aren't great this time of the year, but if they could sell in 2 days with no promo more than others do in Q4, why can't it be the same with the album?
I can't see Ed beating TT on his third weeks sales, especially as TT will begin with 40k ish based on the preorders and tour priority offers. Perhaps they are holding back all their promo for the album, although I doubt they'll release a second single so soon. Although...if they released at Xmas, a second single would be released around this time. Thing with the tour is that they usually have 3 official singles released by the time they hit the road...so maybe we can expect a second single soon...
I would be afraid of Ed too, what might help is, i would expect Ed will have massive 1st week sales, a big drop off in week 2 and further decline in week 3 which should be enough for Take That to land the number 1.
I would have thought they are a big enough name to open with 100,000 plus on debut week. While Take Thats album sales have declined they still remain an albums act more so than a singles act.
No date yet, but ITV have announced 'An evening with Take That' coming soon!
Will this be their first 'Evening with' since 2006?
Great news!!!
I think there was a circus-related show at the start of that era (it was the only time I remember them singing Julie live).
Of course! Completely forgot about that one. Really enjoyed the Circus one
Finally some good news from the promotional aspect. They need this. Ideally this would air on the Saturday, the day after its release.
when is the release date now?
Read the topic title
Drake is apparently releasing his album as early as this weekend (but definitely sometime this month). His last album opened with 78K, but he has sine become a streaming force in the UK and could challenge TT if he releases on the 24th, not to mention Ed Sheeran's dominance (he already sold 590K, more than Progress's 520K)
I hope the special does wonders for them. Anyone know if they filmed it yet? Also, when is the Giants video coming out?

I read somewhere that the tv special will be aired on Sunday 2nd April. One week too late... But better late than never I guess!!
I may be in minority, but I don't understand the Ed Sheeran phenomenon. Regardless, I hope his dominance on the charts will subside a little when TT releases Wonderland.
They have the Carpool Karaoke, Red Nose Day lined up for when the album is released - maybe that will help a bit.
I like Ed Sheeran, not all his stuff but its like i really like about every 1 in 3 of his singles, im happy he is doing so well and the records he is breaking. Here in Ireland this week he occupies the full top 16 with the tracks of his new album and has a further 9 songs in the top 100, in total he occupies a quarter of the top 100 having 25 songs in it, he also has 3 positions in the top 5 and an ep at number 39 in the album chart.
I hope he has huge sales again this week as the more that buy it this week the less that should do the following and give Take That a stronger chance of getting the number 1. This is the first time in a long time im not confident of them getting to number 1 with the album. I know it wont happen here in Ireland, Three has a peak of number 6 and none of the albums since they reformed have entered at number 1 here apart from Progress. Beautiful World and The Circus climbed to number 1 here after they appeared on the Late Late Show which was a few weeks after the releases of each album plus Giants has only made number 86 here.
Good thing TT postponed the album by a week, because Drake is releasing his album March 18.
Thankfully Drake isnt a massive player in the album chart, Views did well but for someone having such big hits the album has sold around 450,000 copies to date so i would like to think Take That would beat Drake to number 1.
TT would definitely beat Drake. There's not many artists that would beat TT under normal circumstances
With those that could beat them though is the problem as Ed Sheeran is one of them.
The Late Late Show has been pushed to the week before the album. Do we know when the Carpool Karaoke is yet?
Ed Sheeran has sold 200k so far this week..this is going to be a big challenge for TT if they don't get the promo right. Perhaps they should have released it in Feb, a week after Giants...
Ed Sheeran will probably sell close to 300,00 this week. I hoped he would have higher sales this week to reduce sales for the following. If Take That promote they will be in with a chance but if they dont promote they wont be in the running at all.
I have read that the Carpool Karaoke is for Red Nose Day and the UK. Isn't it shown in the USA?
I am sure TT will have a number one album based on pre orders. However it maybe time to separate the charts between streaming charts and sales charts. Ed though is great in both, but it would be less boring with the singles
Just seen a clip of the Giants video...looks quite underwhelming and not much thought behind it. Hopefully it looks better in its entirety
Official music video for "Giants": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GI0Ft-BI_d0
Better late than never
Nope, not much better, Jay It looks so low budget.
Is it me or does it feel like no one bothered with this? It's a bit like they knew they had to release one so let's do it quickly and on the cheap...
I can see this album opening at #2 with around 50k or less, possibly. This is their first album since their comeback where there seems to be zero hype They'll no way get past Ed.
I think they were doomed with whatever lead single they released in the streaming era, but the more I listen to it the more I realise that Giants is not quite the comeback single I was hoping for. It's strong anthemic second single material for sure but I would have loved a big classic ballad for the first single. And yes, the video is really weak/cheap.
The hype is certainly at zero level, this combined with a feeling they are not overly interested in the campaign is making for a very flat comeback. Giants is a good song but not on the level they needed to mark their return, its forgettable and is the style of song that will be well forgotten in the years ahead.
To make any dents in the streaming deficits they suffer with singles they needed strong promotion to at the least try and combat it but as we know, outside releasing the cd single no work was done to promote. That said, i really should hold back judgement until i see how they approach the release of the album next week, but at this point i am not holding out much hope. Wonderland could possibly be their first studio album not to make number 1 since their debut Take That and Party.
I really would have loved if they added another number 1 album to their discography.
If it doesn't make it on its opening week, hopefully there'll be opportunities when they tour or do the audience with etc.
Well, let's not go overboard here, their last lead single went #1, so did the album, and in the meantime they had a top 25 and a top 15 single in the era of streaming...
They are still making good music, the issue is the lax approach to promoting it (perhaps it's an expectation that people will buy it automatically).
The music they make remains good. The main problem is it doesnt have the same wide appeal as some of their previous material. I rank These Days among one of their best singles, so i have no issue with quality of music. It the total lack of interest in promoting that i find frustrating and disappointing.
oh dear the video is quite disappointing. after seeing all the wonderland artwork and outfits I was expecting so much more
The video looks so cheap.
I think the new album will struggle to reach platinum status sadly. I also think it will miss the top spot and sell under 100k in the first week. There has been very little promotion or excitement for this campaign, unlike their other albums since reforming.
They will be premiering different tracks from the album every day on BBC Radio 2:
https://twitter.com/takethat/status/843492274923159552
Promotion appears to be coming for the release but they need to do more to build up the hype and the sales.
The Late Late Show performance!
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=GTOrFKLP-II&feature=youtu.be
Giants is very good live!
Loved the Giants performance I'm obsessed with the last note on "sky"
New Day from Wonderland: https://tmblr.co/Z6r4mt2Jncape
I like New Day, but not blown away by it...
Loving or Leaving remains my favorite so far.
Really enjoyed that performance of Giants. It certainly gains something from being performed live (although I really liked it anyway).
I've listened to the 30 second snippet of New Day that was posted in the TT Facebook page - don't want to listen to the full song til I have the album in my hands!- and quite enjoyed it too. ( Although I wasn't overly keen on the funny vocals just as it faded out lol.)
It sounds as tho style-wise the new album is going to be a cross between III and The Circus, which gets the thumbs up from me. I really enjoyed the the bold strides the band took with Progress and and the modern-day production on III but I'm more than ready for stuff that leans more to the BW/Circus era of their career.
Meant to say, what's the deal with TT appearing on US television? Are they really hoping to crack the US or did they just turn up because they're mates with James Corden?
I assume they must be releasing Giants in the US though, is that right?
Good question...is Giants available over there now? Is it on their iTunes chart yet?
isn't it for red nose day? I like what I heard about New Day until now. Does the promo has enhanced Giant's chart position in the UK?
I have made the decision to not listen to the previews and wait to listen to the album in its entirety. By doing this i feel i get a much better sense of an album as a whole.
.
Yes probably better that way
I heard a snippet of Superstar today and am beginning to get a bit worried. From the new album we've already heard Cry, Giants, Loving or Leaving, New Day and now Superstar... and not one lead vocal for Mark in sight !
EDIT - oops my mistake it seems as though Superstar is indeed a lead vocal by Mark (I'd only heard a brief snippet - which I'm sure wasn't Mark singing!)
Mark is the lead on Superstar.
So far, Hope is the best track for me and it should have been the lead single, imo.
1. Hope
2. Loving or Leaving
3. New Day
4. Giants
5. Superstar.
Let's hope sales are strong tomorrow and over the weekend. Would be such a shame if it missed out on #1.
Has anyone seen any reviews yet?
Ed Sheeran sales have declined this week, while still excellent he will be on track for 200,000 this week. I would think he is in line to reach 100,000 next week so Take That i would believe will need around 120,000 to secure number 1.
Ed is still doing in the region of 50k a week from streaming alone so has a huge headstart.
They should be #2 with I imagine 45-60k unless they really tank. I'll get my copy asap if I can find the deluxe anywhere! (I'm not near an HMV).
Was the Late Late Show performance actually screened on US tv?
Maybe it was a bonus 'filmed for online' type thing that they did while over there to do the Comic Relief stuff with James Corden. Everything I read about it says they performed Giants 'for the studio audience'. But was it aired in the US?
It is so hard to predict opening sales for the album. If the sales are around 60,000 i would be extremely disappointed.
What do people think about the album so far? I'm surprised at how much I like it. Wonderland, Lucky Stars and And the band plays are my fav so far
I will be listening to it later today as i am heading to purchase it shortly.
It's all for you, Loving or Leaving and Hope are my favorites
I also like The Last Poet, New Day and I also like the verses on Don't Give Up on Me.
Unfortunately, I can't say this album is what I had been expecting from them.
I love the tracks where Gary's influence is more obvious, but that's just too little.
I've been so pleased with the quality of Gary's solo projects I had been expecting to find it on the TT album too.
Wonderland is only no3 on iTunes. I suspect a lot of fans will purchase the CD though. I like what Ive heard so far. Sounds quite mature!
Carpool Karaoke was great!!
https://youtu.be/jE_kWu9z_Zw
Half way through my first listen. YES!!!! The boys have still got it
Interesting! I guess US audiences must just be somewhat bemused at the airtime for them then!
It would be the equivalent of someone like Jennifer Paige (or insert any other forgotten 90s US one-hit wonder) getting a performance slot for their new single and additional coverage on Ant & Dec here!
-----
As an aside, I'm going to track down Wonderland today. I listened to half of it on Spotify yesterday and spotted Beatles and 80s influences. Seemed quite melodically strong and less electronic than Progress and III.
I have listened to the album a couple of times now and I like it! I think that I prefer this album to III. My favourite songs so far are And The Band Plays, Superstar, Giants. I also quite like Lucky Stars, Come On Love and River. Also still like Cry.
I loved Carpool Karaoke! Especially the second part, when they got out of the car, and did Pray. That was hilarious
Had about 3 listens to the album so far and I'm enjoying it more on each listen.
Slightly disappointed that there's only 3 leads for Mark (and shockingly only one for Howard - even worse for him is that it's the worst song on the album lol !). With only 3 members nowadays coupled with the extra tracks that you get on special/repackaged editions the Wonderland and III eras have been disproportionately Gary-heavy. It's like he's re-asserting his authority after the share-the-leads-around period at the start of their comeback. It seems slightly odd from a fan's perspective but as long Mark and Howard are both fine with it then that's all that matters really.
Carpool karaoke was ace!!!! Really enjoyed part one and thought that was my lot - then they said there's a part 2 still to come, which was even better! I agree that the US audience must've found it a bit strange (Take Who?) - but I guess a show that's on 5(?) nights a week can't always have high profile celebs on it as there just aren't enough to go round for a sustained length of time.
I've bought the deluxe and listened all the way through and it's a consistently strong, melodic and well produced album. That said, going by my first impression there's no track that I would rate 10/10, and each album since Beautiful World has had one of those. I was hoping for something really completely epic like Rule The World or The Flood on here.
Anyway, Mint Royale tweeted that the album has started strongly and could potentially cross the 'six-figure mark', so my 45-60k prediction was probably too low. There didn't seem to be any hype around it but they're doing well creating some on album release week with Comic Relief/Ant & Dec/HMV signing etc...
If it does manage 100k I'll be very impressed, as that won't be too far down from III, which was a Q4 release!
Their carpool was really good! Really made me appreciate 'Pray' so much more!
I think this abum is better than III.
Strange...but there is a snippet in Wonderland song (3:38) what is very similar on Robbie's vocal...
Very good pop song by the way.
I seem to be in minority here. I preferred III to Wonderland. I have to listen to it more, cause, at the moment, I can't make heads or tails out of it.
Come On LOve has started to grow on me a lot, so has New Day and Giants, but my favorite still remain It's All For You and Hope.
The weakest tracks are Howard's lead and Superstar. Don't really get Wonderland and The Band Plays, but, as I said, I need to play the album more.
Giants really grows on me with each live performance. Really nice surprise tonight on Takeaway - I wasn't expecting them to perform Giants.
Carpool Karaoke was hilarious last night
Superstar is pretty awful, I can't think of a song of theirs that I've liked less since the comeback. It's like a bad rip-off of Run To You by Bryan Adams, with terrible lyrics.
My faves, other than Giants and Cry, so far are Wonderland, New Day, Hope, And The Band Plays, River and Don't Give Up On Me. It's decent overall...the deluxe tracks are better than 2 or 3 on the main album!
Take That are on 67k, more than double Ed. They'll get the #1, weren't they doing SNT tonight?
I'm amazed at that...! They never fail to surprise me, it seemed they have very little hype this time but I guess they have a still large-ish fanbase and are quite a magnet for casual buyers too. I bought it in a supermarket earlier today and saw two other people dumping it in their trolley with the food shop.
amazing that we can expect a #1 debut in the UK...
wonderland is amazing.
I need to come back and do a proper review later, but I just had to share my thoughts about Come On Love (which I really like). It's got a real New Radicals vibe about it - does anyone else a) remember them and b) agree ??
Love the Saturday Night Takeaway appearance . And you have to hand it to Ant and Dec for learning all the dance moves to Pray.
Ps - forgot to say in my last post: how funny was Howard's "can't be arsed comment" about breaking the US
Loved them on Ant & Dec, Pray is the song/dance routine that just keeps on giving. I love that they still do these moves 25 years on every time they perform this song
I would imagine it will be close. Ed will do at least 100k surely, once streaming and the last minute Mother's Day buying is added. I don't see how he'd decline from 206k to under 100k suddenly.
Not sure how TT will hold up at all! Today's sales should be quite good with the Comic Relief exposure and Mother's Day buying, beyond that I don't know. Would be a shame for them to not get a #1 album, but any act going up against an Ed album in its first month is very brave indeed!
67k at this stage is good, it should mean they will easily manage 100,000 so it looks like they are def in with a shot of number 1, i really hope they do it.
I still dont have my copy, no place in the town i live sells cds anymore so i had it ordered online so im hoping il have it Tuesday.
Mint Royale says Ed have overtaken now, must have been a whopping Saturday sale for him.
So a #2 album for TT...still good but a shame to break their streak. I think it was just too early to release to get a #1, Ed will be on top for quite some time yet. In 2 or 3 weeks time they'd have done it...but then sales will be higher anyway with all the promo opportunities this weekend and the Mother's Day boost.
Yeah they're 10k behind. Shame
Did they have a really poor Saturday, or did Ed just have a mammoth sale yesterday? I guess the Comic Relief promo will have done him no harm whatsoever, he came across as much more endearing and down to earth on there than he has of late.
So unfair
Yeah I suppose there's not going to be much to prop it up after the first week, other than the tour. Promo opportunities will be slim going into Q2.
Perhaps it will manage 250k in the long run...but even that is a big ask.
I think anything Platinum in the albums is still a success so I'm hoping for at least that.
It might struggle to achieve platinum unless its reissued later in the year. It's a good album though. I like it a lot.
I think what will be interesting is how it does on week and will it completely plummet.
I think Platinum could be a struggle - I'm not sure there is a standout track that sounds like it could be a big hit so there is not much to keep the album selling, the 'Audience With' will give it a boost but with Mothers Day sales out of the way and no hit single to sustain sales I don't have high hopes for it but hope I'm wrong!
Thats the problem if the singles arent there, there is not much to hold it up, the audience with should give it a nice boost but after that it will be a struggle.
I just hope they can make it next week, or when the tour starts
They're up to 95k now, VERY impressive for this time of year, just poor timing...
Do you all know they're performing on Graham Norton next Friday? Excellent promo.
Such impressive sales for this time of year and the fact they done nothing to promote 'Giants'.
Maybe with the GN performance and 'Audience With' they could snag a week at the top in the next week or 2?
Although I'm sad Wonderland won't be no 1, I'm really impressed with their sales. Imagine what they could have sold had they decided to release in Q4!!
Sales are very impressive! Especially given the fact it's not Xmas! Just a shame ES is dominating the charts
Ive heard wonderland a few times now. I think it's my second favourite TT album after III. Unfortunately, the album lacks a killer single but there isn't a bad track on it. Some of my favourites include Up, The last poet, come on love and every revolution.
It's one of my fav albums too, I haven't skipped one song yet - but I struggle to see a second single. Perhaps it'll be something like New Day. Although, id like them to go with Last Poet or Lucky Stars
While i am disappointed they wont be number 1 im made up with the sales as its pretty much in line with Three which was a q4 release. I hope the audience with will help get it good sales next week too.
Ultimate Collection top 30 as well is great.
I'm so obsessed with wonderland. Look at my lastfm: (2011-)
01 - 2.454 - III
02 - 0.395 - Wonderland*
03 - 0.267 - Progress Live
04 - 0.186 - Never Forget Ultimate
05 - 0.181 - Progress
06 - 0.158 - The Circus
07 - 0.139 - Nobody Else
08 - 0.118 - Beautiful World
09 - 0.094 - Everything Changes
10 - 0.061 - Progressed
11 - 0.014 - TT & Party
12 - 0.012 - The Greatest Day Live
*debut
Progress is only so low because I joined in October 2011 and by then my hype was already gone... otherwise the album would have 3,000 scrobbles.
Gary has confirmed at the signings that the next single will be New Day.
I guess it's the most logical song to go with next. They need to repeat the physical feat they did for Giants. Release a couple of versions with b sides and live songs
I was hoping for Lucky Star to be the next single. It's such a fun song. My favorite at the moment is Superstar but don't think that qualifies as a single. So far I like this album more than III but it kinda lack a killer song like In to the Wild or Freeze.
Btw, hi everyone. I'm new but have been checking the forum in the shadow for many years.
Hi, Badhabit
I hope we'll get a physical cd of New Day with a b-side. Although it's only a b-side, I, personally, rate Loving or Leaving above many of the tracks on the album.
I'd love it for It's All for You or Hope to be the 3rd single. They really need to put out a ballad.
Hi BadHabit!
New Day is a song which I can't make up my mind about, do I like it or not? I can't decide!
Yes, a physical cd with a proper b-side is a must.
Welcome, Badhabit! I would like Lucky Star too.
I would whether they qualify New Day as their third single
I quite like New Day but it's hardly a vintage single choice. I'd love to see a reissue around Xmas with a tour DVD and three or four new songs, at least one of which is a big epic string-laden lush classic Barlow ballad.
This album is really strong and cohesive as a whole but it's missing that magic moment that every single one of their other albums has at least one of. What I mean is I can't see any of these songs joining the Take That 'canon', at least we had These Days on III to do that.
I love New Day and, in a poll in a big TT group, New Day was the most liked song.
Have you heard the Soho sessions? They sound amazing: https://www.mixcloud.com/michellethornton2203/tt-soho-session-tracks/?utm_campaign=notification_new_upload&play=notification_new_upload&utm_medium=email&utm_source=notification&utm_content=html
New Day at this early stage is the stand out track but that could change with further listens to the album. On the whole, i am disappointed with the album. I cant put my finger on it, but there is something missing from the album. There is a part of me that feels it is not a Take That album i am listening to and there is another part of me that feels i am listening to a Take That album compromised of b sides and rarities (i.e left overs).
This is exactly the album we didn't need from them. It will do nothing to really reverse the sales decline previously experienced and it wont attract any new fans either. It will likely keep some of the fans happy but there is nothing on the album that will be remembered in years to come. This is the first album from them that i feel wont have one song that people will remember down the line, its an album that attempts to represent the music of NOW and it doesnt quiet pull it off and in doing so, it fails the trademarks that makes many Take That songs so memorable.
I cant help but wonder how a band that made such wonderful albums such as Beautiful World and The Circus ended up making an album like Wonderland. I know its very early judgement and i will continue to listen to the album in hope that i get to like it but this album brought home how much i miss the Take That of a few years back.
I'm with Pippa somewhat on this.
I don't actually dislike the album, I just enjoy very few songs on it and, even so, there's not one track I can say is better than anything I've heard from them before.
With III, I was madly in love with WYBTFM, Freeze, Flaws, HTH and quite a few others and I found myself listening to them on repeat. This hasn't happened to me with this album.
I still wish it does well, of course. I'm still hoping I'll grow to love some of the tracks more once I hear them live.
PS: An Evening with TT will be on the 8th of April, at 8:30, on ITV.
Have to admit that I'm still yet to establish my faves from this album. On first listen I did enjoy New Day but it doesn't exactly scream THIS MUST BE A SECOND SINGLE at me.
Loving the Soho Sessions. The intro to Giants is very reminiscent of a version of Mark's Alone Without You that I have somewhere (not 100% sure but I think is the one from the Live At The Academy DVD). I'll see if I can find/post a link so you can see what I mean.
A box set of Greatest Hits will be quite interesting/intriguing. Despite their comeback period spawning more albums and (arguably) better quality songs overall, they haven't exactly racked up the hits singles-wise since 2006. I probably should have researched this more thoroughly before posting but if we are talking Top 20 hits then I guess we're only talking about 11 or 12 overall. I hope the earlier post about some new songs with Robbie being added to the mix is true, that would definitely make things more interesting. I'm not desperate for him to return to the band as such but do think he would bring something to the party (Eight Letters was/is just beautiful). Speaking of which, maybe a new Greatest Hits would be a great time for them to finally release The Party Is Over . I'm dying to hear that song! (But only on the basis that the "party", as it were, keeps on going
new day? really...? they reall unlearned how to release the best songs on their albums.
Looks like Wonderland was very front-loaded as they've only sold 10K in the last 2 days bringing sales to 105,000.
Graham Norton will probably help Take That considerably next week.
I wish they would sale more. I bought like 2 copies from amazon.co.uk even I'm not in the UK. I thought that would help.
Disappointing how much sales have slowed down in the last 2 days, they will probably end the week near to 120,000. Maybe if it had been released next week it may have been enough to get the number 1. I hope it can go top 10 here in Ireland, Three made a number 10 debut but climbed to number 6 after some promotion here on the Late Late Show, that was based on These Days getting to number 8 here, Giants on the other hand reached number 86 here so hopefully the album can make top 10 here.
How can you complain? 100,000 are a lot these days and they are up against Ed Sheeran. For the little promo they had done ot shows that the TT fan base is strong. The question will be how they continue selling as the people buying now is the general public and not the hard core fan. They will be important to keep appealing to if they want to sell more. The additional problem is that they have lost any other market aside the UK and possibly Ireland (in sales) so they need to be strong there. I hope it will turn out well.
Upcoming promo -
Friday 31st March - The One Show
Friday 7th April - Graham Norton Show
Saturday 8th April - Audience with Take That
Great promo with GN and Audience With both being in the same sales week - they should get a huge boost!
I really like Wonderland. I think the last 4-5 songs on the album are particularly strong. You need to listen to the album a few times though as it's a grower. 120k is far more than I anticipated they would sell in the first week. Had the album been released in Q4, it may have done even better but it's still a success particularly in today's market of declining returns. With good promotion and further singles, it may reach platinum by the end of the year!
The sales are solid, especially for the time of year, and in most weeks of the year this would be more than enough for number 1 and outsell the top 20 combined. The power of Ed Sheeran is just to strong for them. I do like Ed Sheeran but i wonder will an album by him in 20 years time open on such strong numbers?i doubt it. I say this in no dig to Ed Sheeran as i am a fan. I say that as a testament to Take That, 25 years on and opening with such big sales outside q4 is remarkable.
It's a no win-win situation. If they open this week, they wouldn't get the Mother's day sale plus the Red Nose promo. So sale might not be as good as this and Ed would still outsell them.
I guess we will have to settle to the fact that they are no longer number one. Just keep doing good songs is good enough.
This album is full of wonderful things to discover on every listening. I found something new to like every time. There are no instant hits for sure but so full of details.
Take That would have easily been no 1 any other time Ed wouldn't have had strong sales, that's a certainty.
I don't think they were that frontloaded. They had 65k on pre-orders and managed to sell almost as much as that since then, which is pretty good, imo, especially at this time of year.
I don't believe Mother's Day had that much of an influence on their sales - Ed would have benefitted from that much more than them.
Imo, they should have advertised on tv, on Red Nose Day, the release of their album, and gathered a few more pre-orders and released next week. But what's done is done.
Sales are slowing down by the day, only 3k more since the last update putting them on 108,000. Looks like an end of week sale of 110,500.
With the main promo coming next weekend rather than during the coming week will we see a weird chart run as in a number 2 debut drop to 6 or 7 and then back up to number 2 following the itv show. Hopefully they can hold top 3 this coming week and in an ideal world overtake Ed if the show really boosts them.
Im a bit peeved off they have such great sales and will only be number 2 when we see so many albums getting a number 1 credit on 12-15 thousand sales.
Yes, if they lost out to number 1 on poor sales it would seem fairer. That said, i would prefer a big selling number 2 than a low selling number 1.
The first charts are in and I'll contrast them against the III peaks for the nations. Firstly unfortunately for it's first week the album hasn't made the top 20 in Taiwan which is the first time this has happened since the reunion however there is obviously time for it to appear.
Australia : III (DNC) / Wonderland #28 (Highest peaking album since reunion!)
Austria: III (DNC) / Wonderland #47
Belgian (Flanders) : III #84 / Wonderland #43 (peak gain 41 places up)
Belgian (Wallonia) : III #118 / Wonderland #75 (peak gain 43 places up)
Denmark : III #23 / Wonderland (DNC top 40)
Germany : III #26 / Wonderland #19 (peak gain 7 places up)
Greece : III #53 / Wonderland #57 (peak drop 4 places down)
Ireland : III #6 / Wonderland #3 (peak gain 3 places up)
Italy : III #39 / Wonderland #36 (peak gain 3 places up)
Japan : III #182 / Wonderland #168 (peak gain 14 places up)
Netherlands : III #64 / Wonderland #48 (peak gain 16 places up)
Scotland : III #2 / Wonderland #2 (peak equal)
Spain : III #54 / Wonderland #18 (peak gain 36 places up)
South Korea : III #18 / Wonderland (DNC top 100)
Switzerland : III #59 / Wonderland #28 (peak gain 31 places up)
Taiwan : III #6 / Wonderland (DNC top 20)
UK : III #1 / Wonderland #2 (peak drop 1 place down)
My own thoughts on the album is I much prefer it to III. I also think the fact they are touring the world and doing promo outside Europe is also helping and long overdue. We know that they are going to Australia, New Zealand and Argentina. However having looked on social media there are some common nations that come through with quite strong TT fanbases.
Looking at the carpool comments and nationalities as well as other social media I'd say they are long due in Canada, Brazil, South Africa and Chile (maybe do a gig when they go to Argentina) based on the multiple responses.
It's nice obviously that they still chart in Japan but they really have fallen away there compared to other nations even Progress came in at #145 there. Beautiful World went to #40 in Japan but that is because they went and did promo in Taiwan/Japan in early 2007. In Taiwan BW went to #1 off back of this promo for two weeks however NF - Ultimate Collection went to #9 a year earlier when released in 2005 so they didn't have to make up as much groundwork as they did for Japan.
I really hope over coming weeks the album goes top 20 in Taiwan as would be a shame to break chart run since reunion. NF (#9), BW (#1), TC (#16), Progress (#6), III (#6).
Thanks Nirvana! So on paper it looks good, albeit the sales outside of Q4 will be lower. I'm still hoping they can do it after the audience with.
#2 in the UK. Officially. Although, Never Forget rebounds to #25 and goes 8X platinum!
I welcome seeing Wonderland chart higher in so many territories than III. This is a positive start.
Never Forget making 8 times platinum this week is just wonderful, that is sales of over 2.4 million.
Really happy the debut here in Ireland, that is their highest debut position since they returned apart from Progress.
That is great about Ireland although outside progress I'm shocked that's their highest debut.
These figures though show that they for whatever reason do not have the faithful fanbase anywhere like in the UK. A place 40 means 4,000 sold copies and less...UK sales are great especially without hit single
Yeah I agree top 40 is a good fanbase for an older act so the nations where all post reunion albums have gone top 40 are UK, Ireland, Germany, Denmark, Italy and Taiwan normally top 10 so disappointed it's initially missed top 20 there.
There is no doubt their popularity has declined in terms of album sales, they are still doing very well all things considered. I still think they should reconsider their music, they are still very popular but i think most of us are in agreeance that they need to release a single that is very Take That, a good strong ballad, i know Wonderland hasnt much if any single potential buy beyond that its something i think they need to do for their next album.
I think their latest chart-debuts are pretty fantastic in Europe and worldwide.
#2 - United Kingdom
#3 - Ireland
#19 - Germany
#28 - Australia
#36 - Italy
#43 - Belgium (F)
#48 - Netherlands
#75 - Belgium (W)
#168 - Japan
I am very pleased with the German ranking. One could assume a solid 3,5k from Germany in week 1.
I am very curious about Austria, Switzerland, France, Spain, Denmark, Norway, Sweden and other EU markets.
BTW is anyone else hardcorely in LOVE with "Come on Love"? I worship right now.
My final verdict on Wonderland 9 days into the era is that I believe it it is slightly better than the outstanding III album.
Hi there the album hasn't charted in the Norwegian top 40 or the top 60 in Sweden on opening week. For both these nations TT reunion albums stand as:
Norway
Beautiful World: #34
The Circus: #38
Progress: #25
Sweden
Beautiful World: #40
The Circus: #25
Progress: #7
Both these neighbouring Scandinavian countries haven't charted III or Wonderland (as yet) within published national charts.
I'm intrigued to see if it's made any dent in the top 100 US albums after the Late Late Show...
Yes me too they'll come out tomorrow and published Wednesday. I think it was only a digital release however so that may hamper them a little in the States as again part of their audience likes physical albums. I don't think it would be top 100 if it charts more likely 160 - 200 for 'smaller loyal fan' acts generally.
It'll be great if it charts in Canada also as they did have moderate success singles and albums in Canada during the 90's and one top 40 single in Patience in 2007 Canada.
Touch wood the album has done well in Denmark also as that is a major TT market however the chart providers are being a bit slow aside from the nations who have already updated their charts considering most are all synced on a Friday now but we'll wait and see.
I am really anxious to see the mid chart information this week to see how Wonderland is performing.
10.000 copies so far - pretty decent, imo.
Look like I'm wrong about they'd not get No. 1 if they release this week. Oh well, life can't always get your way.
I feel that they are more concentrated on promoting the musical than this album.
I hope the musical is a success and doesn't go the way of 'Viva Forever' it seems to be heading in the right direction. When is Graham Norton again? I know an Audience with is this weekend I believe.
Number 4 and 10,321 sold, top 4 based on the mid week chart information looks safe for this week. This puts the album in a good position to do well on week 3 after the audience with is aired.
The Ultimate Collection is number 20 which should indicate it will remain top 40 this week.
Giants currently sits at number 89, it would be wonderful if it can stay top 100 this week and with some luck the audience with will keep it in next week too.
Top 4 on week 2 is good and sales are respectable. I think we all have our hopes pinned on the itv show connecting with the public which will hopefully get sales going next week.
The Ultimate collection is also holding up good, its actually number 29 though and not number 20! hopefully we will see it get another 3,000 sales this week.
Gosh I hope so. They'll need to sell around 70k next week to make it to the top though.
Hopefully the tour dates being so soon will encourage people to keep buying it
It hasn't charted in Billboard 200 in America but that was always going to be a tall order.
Interestingly James Blunt album has debuted at #177 in America which is a lot lower than I would have expected for him.
It hasn't gone top 200 in France either.
It didn't chart in top 100 Canadian albums either unfortunately.
The itv show and the tour hype and i would hope something else in promotion could lift them to sales of 70,000 next week but i dont think it will happen. My goal for Wonderland is to achieve platinum status and the sales next week if good could really increase its chances.
Wonderland remains at number 4 in the mid week information today but is only 800 sales ahead of Drake who is number 5. While top 5 is safe for Take That i would like them to hold on in the top 4. Sales for this week at this point are 12.6 so 15,000 looks possible.
Third week promo could boost it to 25k at the very best I think but realistically it will probably just stay static or decline less than would otherwise be the case...70k isn't going to happen, nowhere near, we never see promo boosts of such a magnitude, sadly, as it would be great for them to get another #1 but I can't see it ever happening with this album.
It's a shame the album didn't chart as of yet in Taiwan and Demark as both these countries have given big success to Take That since they reformed. However regardless of this the album has charted at #3 in the overall World Charts behind 1.Ed Sheeran and 2.Drake.
This is also an improvement on III which charted at #8 on the World Album Chart first week on release.
World chart position is impressive.
Wonderland drops a further place to number in the midweeks, it is still respectable with good sales for week 2.
Surely they have to be a contender for #1 next week? They are on Graham Norton which should appeal to their fan base and always seems to give acts decent boosts followed by an 'Audience With' which should boost the album and Ultimate Collection.
They should end week 2 with the album selling around 135,000 which is pretty decent.
Positions below - lll vs Wonderland
UK - lll #1/Wonderland #2
Ireland - lll #6/Wonderland #3
Australia - lll DNC/Wonderland #28
Austria - lll DNC/Wonderland #47
Germany - lll #26/Wonderland #19
Italy - lll #39/Wonderland #36
The Netherlands - lll #64/Wonderland #48
Switzerland - lll #59/Wonderland #28
lll charted at #54 in Spain and Wonderland seems to have missed the Top 100, Same for Denmark where lll reached #23
20,000 looks to be around their sales this week which is good. Graham Norton should give it a boost aswell as their own show. I really dont know what to expect sales wise next week. Its likely that Giants is what will be performed on Graham Norton and the problem is i dont think people are connecting with the song as the ant and dec Saturday night take didnt exactly give it a big boost but it might have helped sales of the album.
I would think their audience with will have a mixture of new songs and old songs so hopefully it will turn in album sales for Wonderland, i think the Ultimate Collection will be back in the top 20 after it but how much of a lift Wonderland will get is hard to call as its been a lukewarm reception to their new material SO FAR! Ed Sheeran will still be hard for anyone to topple next week as he will probably sell minimum 50,000 again next week.
The perception either with critics (The Guardian gives 2 stars) as well as the general public is average and below average. The sales in week one in the UK was impressive. Any other charting aside of Ireland is fogettable. But they are nevertheless a strong craft, look at the 2 million tickets for the muscial The Band sold in the UK. And the lucrative UK tour sold very well. They will be massive with teh next Greatest Hits
From what I've read, they're only performing Wonderland, Giants and New Day from the new album I really wanted to hear more, especially It's All For You, Hope, Come On Love and Lucky Stars.
They should have perform Lucky Star. That song should go down very well and somewhat a good representation of the new album.
The reason that positions of the new album look better than III in other countries must come from not many competitions at this time of the year. I don't get a feel that it sells better.
Grim reaction to 'Wonderland' on Graham Norton on social media! I have to say the dance moves were a bit bizzare.
Was really hoping they would perform 'Giants' - it almost as if they dropped it without ever getting behind it, missed opportunity as I'm not sure WL will have people running to check out the album.
For the 1st time since the album release, I really loved Wonderland. The haters on twitter will complain about anything.
Was surprised they performed Wonderland but it might not have been a bad move.
I've found the song to be a bit of a grower - so when they perform it again tonight on Audience With it will be the 2nd time in quick succession that the general public hear the song. Hopefully they'll like it enough after performance number 2 to go and buy the album!
Wonderland - Before/After GN on iTunes
Deluxe version - #29 to #24
Standard version - #61 to #55
Hope they get a big boost from tonight's show!
iTunes isn't very relevant to album sales.
I just think we should be looking out for boosts on Amazon, not iTunes. People who are really interested in the album will usually go on Amazon.
What a surprise... I really loved New Day on An Evening With Take That tonight! Hopefully it came across well to first-time listeners too (fingers crossed).
Was nice to hear Babe sung live again too, even though it was a condensed version.
Big boosts for Wonderland, Ultimate Collection and Giants on iTunes
Fantastic show!
Yes New Day works far better live, and Giants sounded pretty epic too. Not sure on Wonderland (the song) at the moment, it's very corny.
The classics were all brilliant of course and I enjoyed the medley by the piano.
New day and giants came accross brilliant I have to say, great show.my only negative was I think they should have had 1 or 2 more songs from ŵonderland, even a medley would have worked.
I thought it was very well done and the new music sounded great! I was especially pleased to see Mark take more of a lead on New Day - it came across brilliantly. The medley segment was good too.
I agree that iTunes really isn't the indicator it used to be. I'm more pleased that both versions are performing very strongly on Amazon!
Its good to see Giants is picking up something from the show. I think people who watched though would go out and buy the physicial albums, so hopefully Wonderland will get bigger 3rd week sales than it did on the 2nd week.
New Day may become my new favorite after the live version. So much fun to watch.
The whole show looks good so hope it translate into good sale.
New Day was the standout moment from an audience with. I do agree that they should have performed a couple of more tracks from the new album but overall it was a strong show.
The Wonderland performance on Graham Norton was also good, this song reminds me of another song but i just can place it. It has an an early days Depechemode vibe to which i think this is what i am been reminded of.
I am more than disappointed with the sales effect for Take That after such strong promotion over the weekend Wonderland is number 5 on less than 7,000 sales. I am especially surprised the Ultimate Collection has falling in the charts rather than showing a climb, on a brighter point Giants is climbing at 78, i hope it can stay top 100.
I was sure the Ultimate Collection would be a safe top 20 now and higher sales for Wonderland, at least double figures. Hopefully people will buy the album during the week as not everyone goes out shopping on Sunday and may buy the cd this week (wishful thinking, most likely).
Giants will probably be out of the top 100 when we see the chart on Friday
Extremely bizarre that the album is only 5th...another solid 20k on the cards, but I was hoping this would put them back into the top 3
I hope they pick up sales during the week as people seek out a physical copy.
I'm not sure what they can do now to stop the album going into freefall? They have had decent promo and the performance of 'Wonderland' didn't result in much of an uplift for the song, 'New Day' briefly peaked at #146 on iTunes so there doesn't appear to be a follow up that could fare any better than 'Giants'.
They have the tour coming up but it feels at the moment as though they have moved into people wanting to hear the old hits territory so not sure the tour will boost album sales if TV promo hasn't managed it.
I say this as a big Take That fan. Unfortunately they are not producing anything that is going to sell particularly well. Their music is not exciting or moving. This is the band who gave us great songs like Rule the World and Back for Good. Why would anyone other than existing TT fans buy their new music, even after they have had millions of pounds worth of free prime time publicity? Of course, music making isn't all about making hits. It's about making music. But I feel they are now just going through the motions and their hearts aren't really in it.
I agree Bond Bug. The problem with Wonderland is, it is a good album, it is solid, consistant and Giants does represent the style of the album. That said, its a generic sounding album in large and does not contain any music that stands the test of time, nor does it contain any stand out hits.
I am in two minds whether the guys are making music they actually enjoy or if they are trying to make music that they think could increase interest in them. If it is the latter they have got it very wrong. Listening to Wonderland and i would include Three aswell, it is hard to believe it the same band who released such classic songs such as Rule The World, Back For Good, Never Forget and Patience to name just a few.
The guys try new styles which is to be appluaded but along the way they have lost complete sight on what their fans want from them which is why the fans are turning to the old hits.
I suspect they're partly biding their time for the 25th anniversary. If they release a seriously killer single with the inveitable new greatest hits collection then it could reignite interest again for a while, especially if Robbie is back in the fold, as something still doesn't feel quite right about them as a trio to many people.
If they're going to keep peddling albums out that are packed mostly with filler then they may as well give up after that as it will tarnish their legacy.
There are plenty of ways they could boost their profile again...a duets/collborations album perhaps? Like Tom Jones' Reload...another album with all five of them, or at least with Robbie, an album packed with soaring classic ballads like Rule The World - the quality would speak for itself then. But the likes of III and Wonderland are really not the way forward. III at least had one killer song in These Days, but - while I think it's an enjoyable album on the whole - Wonderland doesn't even have one.
I too believe the inevitable Greatest Hits could spark interest in them again if they release a killer single. I think a reunion with Robbie would work for both acts now as both are declining and i think them working together could regain interest again for an album and tour.
Wonderland and Three will be albums that will be forgotten in large by even the hardcore fans like myself, that said, These Days is wonderful and is a song i adore from them and would be part of my Greatest Gits from Take That.
For some time now, i have thought a collaborations album would be something that could work extremely well for Take That if they pair up with the right artists and not just tag on whoever is popular right now. The problem with a lot of the "right now artists" is the music has no substance and like the acts themselves will be forgotten in years down the road. Cry for example with Sigma is not the type of collaboration i think they should be working on.
Even looking at some of their last few support acts would make some really potentially interesting collaborations: Pet Shop Boys, Ella Henderson and All Saints for example. I suppose a James Corden collab would be inevitable too!
Something like that could be a huge Q4 seller though, as it would appeal as a Xmas present as well as to their core fanbase, and those who are interested in the acts they've collaborated with.
Ella Henderson would be a a good choice of duet and from the sound they have created on Wonderland there is certainly potential to do a good Pet Shop Boys duet.
They don't need a duets album they just need to concentrate on what made them great - Whilst I like lll and Wonderland they both feel like albums where they wanted to experiment with their sound rather than what made them famous and the sales reflect that.
Another Beautiful World type album please where 90% of the album could have been singles rather than linking up with Sigma and using electronic effects on their vocals.
I don't see anything wrong with wonderland or III. Both are my favourite TT albums. Unlike the earlier ones following post reform which include a lot of filler songs. III remains my favourite but Wonderland is still a strong album.
I'd rank their post-comeback albums:
1. Beautiful World
2. Progress
3. The Circus
4. III
5. Wonderland
The first three would all be in my top 100 albums of all time though! Beautiful World and Progress are hard to compare but both fantastic in their own way. III and Wonderland are good but I was really blown away by the top three, whereas for me the other two are just solid pop albums. Nothing wrong with that but a comedown for me from the other albums that were packed full of highlights throughout.
Here is my ranking on the comeback album.
1. Progress
2. The Circus
3. Wonderland
4. III
5. Beautiful World (not counting Rule the World)
I like that they keep evolving and feel that the evolution is genuine. Apart from III where you can feel that they were not quite certain with the direction. Every albums feel like it's the step they want to take as a group. They are not for sure at this point aiming for the best selling album because like everybody said they can go back to do Beautiful World II if they want to sell more.
They may not gain a lot of casual buyers. You have to admit that all the people that give them, Adele or Ed Sheeran those huge sale are the type of people that buy 2-3 cds a year and not gonna be life-long devoted fans. By continuing to evolve, they will gain new, though small, devoted fans.
You don't stan for any artists just for the music. Usually, it's the side story that make you love them.
Grant it music does matter but that's personal preference. Different people like different kinds of music. You can't please everyone.
My Rankings of their albums would be
1. The Circus
2. Beautiful World
>>>>>>>>>>>>>
3. Progress
4. Three
5. Wonderland ( It has this position as it is very early days, i need time to see how i feel about songs in a few months time.
The top 2 is clear cut in this ranking, both are classic albums, wonderful songs, songs that sound great almost 10 years later.
The the other 3, each albums has songs i adore, The Flood and These Days for example are wonderful singles that i adore, Eight Letters is also a fabulous song from Progress. Progress, Three and Wonderland all have some great tracks, i think if i could take a few songs from each album and make one album from it we could have a very strong Take That album and it would be an album i would rate with Beautiful World and The Circus.
Number 5 in the latest midweek update on sales of 11.5, they have closed the sales gap on Drake to just 100 as he is on 11.6. It would be wonderful if they could overtake him and register a climb this week within the top 5.
Good to see them closing on #4, I reckon they'll nab it.
1-BW
2-Circus
3- Wonderland
4-Progress
5- III
As Pippa mentioned, the top 2 are some way on their own at the top. BW clinches it for me because none of us could have dreamt it would have been such a success.
Wonderland could change position over time, but I've really enjoyed listening to it from start to finish; particularly Giants and New Day.
III is a good album, and has a great single in These Days on it...however, it just feels a little rushed and fragmented when I listen to it now. Ironic really, with the 4 year gap, but part of me views it like it was a: 'it's been 4 years, we need to release something, anything' moment...
For me, the ranking would go like this:
III
BW
Wonderland
The Circus
Progress
I still believe III was their most mature album.
Wonderland, in many ways, reminds me of The Circus.
Wonderland seems to secure the sound they were searching for when making Three. That said, while enjoyable, there is a large part of me that wishes they didn't search for the sound as it's the style of music that ends up forgotten which is something Take That are not known for.
Spot on Pippa, if III was given a bit more time, it probably would have become Wonderland in terms of sound.
Interestingly, both III and Wonderland don't have a clear, stand out second single...in some cases you could say the same about Progress.
I think the problem with Wonderland is, unlike III, it doesn't have a real single material. And that translate back to the sale.
Saying that. Now, I'm crazy for New Day after the live performance. Wouldn't mind it being a second single now.
New Day does have potential single material, it doesn't scream huge hit but is likely the only song to stand a chance of entering the top 100. The live performances of Giants have turned the song around immensely for me, i really like it and can see why it was selected as the lead single. I am unsure if New Day would have been a better lead single of not.
I agree about lack of second single material from Progress until Progressed was released. The Flood is a wonderful song but it in no way at all reflected the sound of the album as a whole. In contrast i feel These Days and Giants did represent the sound of the albums they were the lead singles from.
From the Progress era The Flood, Love Love, Eight Letters and possibly Happy Now were the only songs that could be singles.
I think Eight Letters (with a Valentine's Day release) and SOS should have been the second and third singles from Progress. I wouldn't have bothered with Kidz, though I like the track.
Kidz and SOS had the same style vibe so i myself would not select both as singles. At the time they performed these 2 songs on the various promotional routes they went and i felt both had similar vibes and same style performances. Eight Letters would have been a wonderful Valentines release, i so agree with that.
Wonderland, Number 5 this week on sales 15,700.
At the least, it has managed 3 weeks in the top 5 but i am slightly worried how it will perform this coming week.
The Ultimate Collection is Number 36 with what look like sales of around 2,000.
I really though the TV show would have had a much stronger effect on an all round basis.
I think the album will freefall this week - I'm so disappointed that GN and 'Audience With' only resulted in 15k.
They have nothing to prop the album up now - time for a swift Ł4.99 promotion on iTunes!
Giants, Lucky Stars and New Day are the songs that are sticking with me so far.
I had the cd on play in the house over the weekend, its the first chance i have had to do this since i got the album and those 3 songs in a row work and i really like them. Giants has grown on me, i love the chorus parts the most.
Outside these 3 songs i find the songs a mixture between generic and forgettable, although dont give up on me stands on on the later stage of the album as its so repetitive its hard to forget it.
New Day has to be a single but i cant see it doing anything more than a minor hit at most. I dont know what will keep the album selling from now on but i hope they can eventually get it to platinum.
Wonderland i am fairly certain will be one of those albums i will probably not listen to in a years time, all their other albums i still play as they have good album tracks but i cant see this happening with wonderland for me and it will most likely be my least favourite Take That album.
#5 in the mids with 5.1k sales - was expecting them to plummet this week but low sales are holding them up, glad they are looking to get a 4th week in the Top 5.
I was relieved to see it top 5 in the midweeks too as like yourself i expected it to freefall this week. It could end the week on sales of around 10k.
I hope they can keep selling at this pace at least, so that they eventually get to platinum.
Had they released in Q4, they wouldn't have had to struggle this much.
Hopefully, the tour will keep the sales steady.
Unless a re-release happens and handled correctly i am struggling to see how Wonderland will make platinum as sales will drop as the weeks progress and its still a bit of reaching 200,000. A further 100,000 without any major single success, promotion etc will be hard to achieve.
They've just announced that the Wonderland Tour will be screened LIVE in cinemas nationwide on 9th June - tickets are on sale this Friday. Might do this actually, I watched the screening of Robbie's tour back in 2013 and it was wicked!
Hopefully they do a soundtrack to Kingsman II and have a bonus song added to the reissue of the album. A new wicked single is a must for this album to do well.
#5 this week with 7,911 sales.
I am really not feeling this album. I loved Progress and III had some really good tracks but I don't find this one very good. Is it full of growers? Should I give it a another shot?
Good time for the second single. New Day has been announced
New day is disappointing single choice. Quite safe & predictable. I wish they had gone with come on love or up.
I wonder if there's any promo lined up...dangerously likely it won't make any impact on the charts. Perhaps another physical release?
I dont think what they choose really matters as it wont be a hit, its case of whether it can make the top 75 or top 100. There is no song strong enough to become a hit unfortunately.
I agree, i would be very surprised if they even get a chart entry with the remaining singles on the album.
I've not really gone back to this album at all, certainly their weakest for me since the reformation. At least half of the album sounds like stuff that would have been left on the cutting room floor for either The Circus or III sessions to me!
Hopefully there will be a couple of killer new songs on the next Greatest Hits album to look forward to.
Although I didn't feel like it, I still went back to the album and listened it again and I have to admit a lot of songs grew on me.
I'd have loved for It's All For You, Hope or Come On Love to be the next single - even if they wouldn't impact the charts, they're still beautiful songs and they deserve some good videos.
In today's political and social climate, It's All For You injects some hope.
New Day is very cheery, who knows, maybe the young audiences will take to it. It's not single-worthy, but it does put a smile on your face.
I like the album but i dont love it. I have listened to a lot now and while its enjoyable there is no huge standout moment on it.
The album is number 10 in the latest mid week information which, if they hold, will see them re climbing.
If they promote it might gain some support but i i have a feeling there wont be any promo for the album outside the tour but i could be wrong. Hope it can hold its top 10 position that it has now for this week. Im really happy to see both Take That and Steps both in the top 10,i never thought i would see that happen, although been honest i much prefer the Steps album to wonderland
The new Steps album is wonderful. Steps certainly made an album they knew their fans wanted and in many senses i wish Take That would do the same. Wonderland is not a bad album but it isnt the album i wanted from them, i just feel they have a much better album left in them to come.
No matter what position TT are in the charts, they sell pretty much the same - 6-7k
They returned the top 10 at number 10 this week.
Interesting choices on the setlist tonight!!

As a Progress Fan - I'm dead jealous that they are singing "Wait" on the tour.
That's my favourite track from Progress and I was sad they didn't perform it on the Progress Tour. That was the one I really wanted to hear.
Saw the whole concert last night on periscope
Really happy bunny here because of Hope and It's All For You.
Don't shoot, but I thought Mark and Howard sounded really bad last night.
I like the setlist. It is fresh
Great reviews so far!
Interesting to see LoveLife on the set list, i wanted them to perform that on the Three tour when i went to and it wasnt on the list.
Nice to see them revisiting some album tracks from previous albums.
Solid performance this week again for Wonderland. It is currently number 9 in the latest midweek chart information.
do we have an idea how much albums are sold in the UK and worldwide?
UK sales at present are around 170,000, i dont know any other sales.
I felt underwhelmed after a first listen but I may revisit this as I have been a big fan of prior eras.
As i have previously mentioned, it is a good album but not necessarily what i really wanted from them. That said,Giants has grown into a real feel good song, the opening and the chorus is great, especially with good volume.
thank you Pippa :-)
Are many of us going to see them this summer? Either live or via the cinema screenings?
Once they perform the songs live, I find I prefer them much more. Affirmation from the III tour was a particular highlight and one I didn't expect.
I would be of the opinion that a large percentage of Take That's songs come alive when performed live. Seeing Giants live was what got the song into my head and helped me get into it more.
I'm going to see them in cinema in Bucharest
Although I'd give anything to actually see them live-live.
New Day has been playlisted by Radio 2
Hopefully New Day can attract some interest with it appearing on the Radio 2 playlist.
Wonderland remains at number 10 this week, wonderful to see it achieve another week with top 10 status.
Overall sales: 175k.
Had they released around Christmas, they'd have been platinum by now.
Sales would probably be almost 100,000 higher if it had a Christmas release. I hope it can hang around the charts and get platinum but i do think a re-release would be needed to help it there. The re-release would want to be handled alot better than Three.
A number 11 position in the midweeks and sales would more than likely be on par with the last 3-4 weeks. Steady chart run to date, but it needs to stay that way for some time.
I think they'll be top 10 on Friday. Hopefully, with the tour they can get to 200k and then they'd need a really really well handled re-release to achieve platinum certification.
Its sad but understandable that the sales have falling so sharply, what Wonderland has sold in just under 3 months is less than what The Circus and Progress sold on day 1 of release.
Wonderland sits at number 12 in today's midweek chart information.
Wonderland has had a good u turn in the Irish charts here on the back of the tour. Last three weeks its 86-42-16,I hope it doesn't have a bug drop this week though.
Nice climb in Ireland. UK sales now around the 185,000, the tour should help it pass 200,000, but where sales will come from after is what will be hard.
Wonderland drops just slightly to number 17 this week, sales information would suggest of of 4500 for the week.

Take That is performing at the Manchester benefit concert this Sunday alongside Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber, Coldplay, Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus, Pharrell Williams, Usher and Niall Horan. Tickets go on sale this Thursday and all proceeds will go to the We Love Manchester Emergency Fund. BBC radio and TV will also broadcast the concert live.
Interesting video!
The video is different, i really think this wont even bother the top 100 which is disappointing as its not a bad song, it deserves to at least make the top 40.
I really like the video. Maybe it will help with the chart a bit, huh?
If nothing else it should help gain the album gain at least some sales. Wonderland has a midweek position of number 22, with some luck it will bounce back into the top 20 as i am sure the sales between numbers 15 and 22 are minimal.
True but that also means sales are usually close between numbers 22 and 30,I hope it climbs though.
A reissue with bonus tracks might help the album to reach platinum status. For an album which hasn't obtained a hit single and for a band still going after 20 years, they have done ok sales wise.
In overall terms and when you look at how artists of their era perform they are doing amazing. That said, the large decline in sales felt rapid, i would more understand a studio album selling 2 million, the next 1 million and the next 600,000. With Take That, it was a drop from 2.3 million with Progress to just under 600,000 for Three which was a very sharp decline. That trend has once again continued with a drop in sales between Three and Wonderland.
I think the 4 year break was too long to wait for III, that in my mind contributed to people losing interest (especially as it was seen by some as the end of the story)
Wonderland wise, if they released in December, I think we'd be looking at similar figures to III
Wonderland has suffered from not having a 4th quarter release date which keeps my hopes alive they will re-release in the 4th quarter to gain some sales.
Wonderland ends the week as a non mover at position 17.
Good thats its still top 20, should be around another 5 thousand sales. Hopefully the Manchester benefit concert performance may help them sell this week.
Sales are 189,000 now,so hopefully in the next 2-3 weeks it will get to the 200,000.
If it can remain in the top 20 region or possibly top 15 it could achieve 5,000 sales which will hopefully mean your prediction is correct.
First set of midweeks have just become available and Wonderland is number 20 which is reasonably ok.
I'd be happy if it can stay top 20 again this week.
Me too, last week it made a 7 place improvement on the first mid week placing. Hopefully it can hold its current position or climb even slightly as the week moves forward.
Wonderland achieves another week with a top 20 position this week (just about) at number 20.
They really need to start pushing New Day now. It is likely this wont do anything as i fear they will no zero promotion for it due to the tour.
Wonderland is number 22 in the latest midweek chart information.
I cant see New Day getting promotion at all and it will be lucky to make the top 200 at this rate. The album really is crawling its way to get to 200,000 sales and the tour has what kept it a float the last few weeks. I think it will start to drop fast soon
I fear the same on both points. I cant see what will keep the album selling without having hits.
I was at the concert on saturday and it was absolutely fantastic! I was with a couple of people who were on the fence about Take That but came away raving about them and the show!
The Flood and Giants in particular were spectacular!
How was the staging?
Delighted you had a great time and it was a great show and the people you were with also came away impressed.
Number 22 this week, that's 3 months in the top 25.
I was wondering: did those who went to see the concert on the 9th of June hear Bucharest say "Hello London?"
This time, the crowd in the cine was much more alive than the last time. The cine was almost full and, after a shy start, people started cheering and applauding and really going for it. We did the whole Pray and NF arms routine and we were all laughing. Some people even got up to dance. I had to refrain myself and to dance in my seat, cause one girl next to me kept sending me murderous looks for singing all the time
There was a little boy next to me who was completely enamoured with Gary He was doing and showing everything I wanted to
I know that How Deep Is Your Love is not really appreciated by UK fans, but here, it got quite an unexpected reaction from the people in the cine. They really went wild for it and clapped a long time after it finished. The same went for Pray and BFG. And, from the new songs, people seemed really impressed with Hope and It's All For You - that or Gary's voice on those songs, I have no idea which one.
The whole experience showed me that there'd be a public here for TT, in case they decided to come, and, at the same time, it made me sad, cause now I know what I'm missing out on
.........and the sharp decline we feared has started to hit with Wonderland. In the latest midweeks it is at position 36 dropping 14 places. That said, there is a high number of new entries this week.
Number 36 this week, it will probably leave the top 40 this week
I still find it weird that this whole album/tour cycle has lasted literally 4 months. Why was it so rushed?
According to their social medias, they are currently on summer vacation. I guess the "New Day" and "Wonderland" promotions are not happening.
I doubt new day will even get a release now. Album drops big this week down 32 places to number 68.
Unless a spectacular re-release occurs Wonderland has no chance of reaching platinum. The album is almost out of the charts and its sales are slightly over 200,000. With nothing lined up the album has little to no chance of selling much more. Wonderland as an era appears very rushed and only half hearted as it now looks like the era is closed. I find this disappointing as they could have done so much more with this.
I suspect we may get a reissue near Christmas to boost sales and it might just reach platinum but disappointing sales given it's a good album.
I believe a re-issue would be great and should happen.
Number 75 this week, 15 weeks top 75 but most likely its last unless we get the re-release.
Sales are now 205,000.
At this point three and wonderland combined have sold less than since I saw you last total.
In fairness, 200k isn't too bad in today's climate outside of a key selling period...but yeah, when you think about BW, Circus and Progress...and even Three, Wonderland has really struggled to capture the imagination of fans.
The whole era felt rushed to me. However, a number 2 album and another top 15 single are welcome additions to the discography. Question is, where do they go from here?
All we now know is they are passed their peak and future big chart successes are highly unlikely. I think the new Greatest Hits which wont happen for a while (30th anniversary) era could do ok for them as nostalgia will help and also Robbie will be back which will likely attract interest too. This will likely be their last big selling album.
Wonderland is a good album but as its been said before on the thread it wasnt the album people really wanted from them. I agree that the whole era seems pure rushed and it was like they had the approach of lets do this and get it out of the way.
I think they have a chance of having a studio album that could outsell Wonderland if they produce the right material. Giants for example isnt a bad song but not strong enough attract huge attention to a new album outside the hardcore fanbase. Wonderland, seems to be largely an album bought by fans, i would think its safe to say it didnt not attract anyone to buy a Take That album that did not buy one before.
I would hope we get another studio album before the 30th anniversary, which would bridge the 30th anniversary.
The downward spiral continues for Wonderland. It is showing a number 91 position in the midweek chart information.
Wonderland has officially departed the official Top 100 this week
Can't see it returning very soon either.
A price reduction would help greatly. Unless the re-release happens (if it does) sales will drop off completly. It is disappointing the album has not managed platinum. Three was their first album not to reach double platinum ( but its almost there, and will achieve it eventually) and Wonderland is the first to not make platinum. Their previous Live album releases have sold more than Wonderland with ease.
Zero sustained promo...I'm hoping we get a deluxe version at Xmas with the DVD to get us to platinum at least
The guys just seem to be behind this album at all which makes me sometimes doubt they will even bother with a re-release.
If you mean aren't behind this album I would agree Pippa,it's done and dusted far too quickly.
Wonderland is the 6th highest selling album this year and has sold 202,000 copies so far
http://www.officialcharts.com/chart-news/the-official-top-40-biggest-albums-of-2017-so-far__18643/
Any news about a re-release? I have a feeling we may not get one now. Seems like they have abandoned the album as no new promotion or new single. It's a shame as those sales don't reflect the quality of the album.
I would think if they were going ahead with a re-release we would have heard something about it by now. It heavily appears the guys have moved on from Wonderland. In many respects it feels like the forgotten album.
Yeah, looks like their focus is on the greatest hits release now which is a shame
Its looking that way. I am looking forward to the Greatest Hits and and how its handled and what the new songs will be like.
Surely, the Greatest Hits will be handled much better than Wonderland. I do believe, if they put the work in, The Greatest Hits will reverse their sales fortunes and potentially re-build interest in their follow up studio album.
I'm not sure how well a greatest hits will do for them. They have already had a successful greatest hits when they reformed and most people will already have all of their big hits. Follow up greatest hits don't always tend to do as well which is the case with the likes of Madonna. I think it will depend on how the era is marketed. Are we expecting a greatest hits soon?
I believe this new Greatest Hits from Take That, in many ways is an exception to the rule. The Ultimate Collection was their second Greatest hits and it outsold their original Greatest Hits by double the amount.
If the new Greatest Hits is based on the reform material only, it is a first time collection from them. There is also the option of a single CD release and double 2 CD release. This would provide options of including or excluding the material that appeared on the Ultimate Collection/Original Greatest Hits.
It is most likely, the new Greatest Hits wont be as big a seller as the Ultimate Collection, in fact its a certainty. The aim would be for it to at the least sell double platinum and more and show an increase in sales when compared to Wonderland and Three.
I could actually imagine a GH exclusively for material post 2006 reform shifting 700k or so over a Christmas market.
I think you could be correct Tawdry. However, what makes me think it wont be just a post 2006 is Robbie's involvement. If Robbie is involved the older material will be mixed in to the cd i would believe.
It would probably make sense to focus this GHs just on post 2006, especially as the ultimate collection is still selling strongly.
That said, it's likely to probably be a double CD box set thing of pre and post break up
They should release both. A double cd and single, the single could be 2006 onwards only. As i have all their material, and have both Greatest Hits i would prefer 2006 onwards only. That said, if they go with a "Best of" it could be a single mixed cd of all eras.
I heard Gary mentions both of our record companies at some points. So I think the new greatest hits will be a mix of both eras. Just not sure in what kind of format.
When is the greatest hits due out?
http://www.digitalspy.com/music/news/a838140/take-that-give-up-jason-orange-reunion/
The last paragraph details the greatest hits so it's looking like 2020 and a 30 year anniversary?
http://www.edp24.co.uk/news/take-that-frontman-gary-barlow-teases-norwich-return-for-greatest-hits-tour-1-5196095
End of next year Greatest Hits with all the songs over years and 3 new songs followed by a world tour.
I welcome a world tour for them as I think it's long overdue for all the countries that have waited so long to see them.
With this information, it is likely a best of collection. It will be interesting to see what singles they leave off the the edition. It will be interesting to see if it will be all the big hits and the flops left out or will it be the singles they like the best themselves.
From the last greatest hits in 2005 'Do What U Like' was the only single omitted.
It's been so long since anyone released a greatest hits I'm not too sure how many songs would go on it especially over 25 years and with 3 new songs. Seeing as this is a Best of collection having gone all around international iTunes certain songs have cropped up consistently within top 10 best sellers nation to nation.
Top 5 by far:
Back For Good, Rule The World, Patience, The Flood and How Deep Is Your Love (definitely underestimated by myself the sheer global reach of this single high up in all continents especially North and South America and Africa iTunes - frequent top 3-5 these continents).
High up all over the world other songs which appeared quite often on the itunes bestsellers from glancing in no particular order are:
Shine,
Pray,
A Million Love Songs,
Could It Be Magic,
These Days,
Never Forget,
Babe,
Relight My Fire,
Get Ready For It
These songs below weren't particularly high up or certainly enough to hold a strong reoccurring impression but some had mixed popularity
Contrasting in popularity songs below - Up and down across all countries
Giants - I think being featured in the carpool karaoke helped this song in popularity in far off places but not as high overall or consistent as songs mentioned above
Love Ain't Here Anymore - Overall quite down but interestingly very popular across Asian counties as in top 10 iTunes bestsellers frequently.
Love Love - 50/50 in global popularity. High some places less so others. Quite high in Europe and Africa.
It Only Takes a Minute - semi popular but often behind those mentioned above and not top 10.
Kidz - Showed up highest on European store best sellers rather than any internationally but never top 10.
Greatest Day - hit and miss in international popularity.
Said It All - As above but more visible than Up All Night and frequently higher than that single.
Cry - Hit and miss.
The Garden - Hit and miss and only seen on European iTunes bestsellers and never high except in Denmark.
Rarely seen
Everything Changes (possibly always in top 20 but Robbie factor hasn't pushed this higher up in iTunes popularity across nation to nation than I would have thought and only always found after a little scroll down of country best sellers)
Do What U Like - As above but very hit and miss
Sure,
Why Can't I Wake Up With You,
Up All Night,
I'd Wait For Life,
Reach Out,
Hold Up a Light,
Happy Now,
When We Were Young - Interestingly highest top 5 on USA iTunes of group bestsellers and just below Get Ready For It. Only nation it's high and visible on bestsellers.
Promises,
Once You've Tasted Love,
I Found Heaven,
Let in the Sun,
Higher than Higher,
Hey Boy - Though interestingly their highest iTunes digital seller in Bahamas so is loved on that island!
Get Ready for It is a song i can see failing to make the list, Cry i would also debate, had it not made the deluxe version on the last album it would most likely have made the cut on the Greatest Hits.
I would believe the following a cert to make the list:
A Million Love Songs
Pray
Relight My Fire
Back For Good
Never Forget
Patience
Shine
Rule The World
Greatest Day
The Flood
These Days.
Strong Possibilities:
Everything Changes
Could It Be Magic
It Only Takes A Minute
Love Aint Here Anymore
Said It All
Love Love
Giants
Babe
Not so Sure:
Up All Night (if my choice, it would certainly make the album)
Why Cant I Wake Up With you
How Deep Is Your Love
Sure
Kidz
Likely to be Left Out
Do What You Like
Once You've Tasted Love
Promises
I Found Heaven
ID Wait For Life
When We Were Young
Let In The Sun
Get Ready For It
The new Greatest Hits needs to lean more to the 2006 era and onwards.
Any guesses on what they will call it, id like Rule The World: The Best of Take That.
Post was duplicated see below
2006 onwards I think their best has been (going off singles)
Rule The World
Patience
The Flood
Said it All
Shine
Greatest Day (not a favourite with myself though)
Love Love
Kidz
These Days
Giants (? Am unsure)
That's 10 with 3-4 new songs added also. I feel like a 2006 great hit vol 2 would be better than an all years mix greatest hits. Separate the two eras however if it's a mix I think it should be 50/50 90s and 00s. This is also because they were far more well known back in the 90s all over the world and so 50% 90's would be fair seeing as any album or collection it is hoped would sell all over the world.
I think Rule The World is a perfect title just as Never Forget was in the relaunch greatest hits
PS - on a random note I came across an old article (2011) where the Chinese government had banned over 100 songs mostly Chinese or Taiwanese but a few Western artists also Lady Gaga, Britney, Backstreet Boys and Take That had four songs on the banned list 'The Flood', 'When We Were Young', 'Love Love' and 'Pretty Things'. I wouldn't have had those four TT songs down as being particularly threatening or any Take That song for that matter.
Hopefully it's been overturned now and Chinese fans can enjoy those four songs.
They could easily do a 2CD deluxe version of the Greatest Hits or best of compilation. They have so many songs to choose from now.
They have more than enough material, maybe a release like kylie did with the ultimate collection and almost all the singles on it but they can call it something else.
I would totally be behind a double CD and having all singles on the album. CD 1 the 2006 onwards and CD 2 the older material. I also would welcome a stand alone version of 2006 onwards material.
From a marketing point of view all singles wont be included,as further down the line, a release will be done with everything. Generally this is how it seems to work with these style of releases.
For this tour the band are touring as well as Australia and New Zealand in November they are also playing in UAE (Dubai) and Israel (Tel Aviv) later that month. I think this is amazing for those local fans outside the EU to finally get to go to a TT show and not feel they have been forgotten or neglected especially as TT have been around (give or take) 25 years. They've waited and asked for long enough!!!
Lots of excitement for those reasons on social media from those touring announcements. They just need to think about North & South America and Africa at some point to go to their fans on those continents and give them that oppourtunity.
If they are planning a World Tour in a few years with the Greatest Hits going out to these places now before hand is always good as it acts as a pre-curser and can build more interest for a return later on. You have to be seen to be heard type of thing as even in a social media world being physically there and touring is still the most effective way. It shows a group is making the effort still and coming out to reach their fans further afield.
This would mean that in recent years they've travelled touring shows to Europe, Asia, Australasia and the Middle East!
Duplicate post see below
I found a great website out of curiosity called setlist which lists all concerts by artists through their years and out of interest these are all countries Take That have done a full concert in if anyone interested:

It seems they have strong requests on social media in terms of nations looking for a first time TT concert in their country mainly from US, Canada, Chile, Portugal, Romania, Poland, Russia, Peru, Paraguay, South Africa, Argentina and Brazil the most.
I looked at some other big boybands and some like Backstreet Boys really have been all over the world multiple times even playing small countries like Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia etc. They have played lots of countries across all the continents and although TT ended up global I wish they too were as driven to go out to these places.
The willingness in recent years from Take That however is a good start from them.
So in terms of touring since the reunion 2005 (12 years) by nations:
First 6 years (05-11): UK, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Denmark, Taiwan, Switzerland, Austria, Spain, France (11 nations)
Last 6 years (12-17): UK, Germany, Jersey, Denmark, UAE, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Switzerland, Austria, Thailand, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, Israel (15 nations)
Take That may not have done a lot of international concerts as yet however they did a lot of traveling overseas instead for TV promotion appearances. This was their promo schedule in the 90's outside of the UK on foreign TV shows/magazine shoots but not any actual concerts. The tours in countries are documented above which nations TT have done concerts. Listed below are national television shows and publications promotion trips.

For the fans they have in America, it would be great if they do something on the tour there as it would be great for the fans.
For the USA and South America argument I've found two great articles on that where someone has actually totalled it up and done market research for it.
USA

South America

Now if only this could be handed to TT management and read...

Luckily this interview says they are wanting to go to South America as well as Russia which would be fantastic and long overdue!
Wonder if they’ll release the DVD and a deluxe CD again for Xmas?
