Music Guests on TV shows this week
Friday: Graham Norton: Kelly Clarkson
Saturday: Jonathan Ross: TBA

Posted by: SevenSeize 15th February 2015, 12:08 AM

Fairly uneventful week ahead, we may at least get a new Top 10 entry with LuvBug (since the track's been seemingly hammered by Capital FM for over a month now)

Posted by: Mart!n 15th February 2015, 12:11 AM

Bit of a dull week, nothing is really stopping Ellie next week, probably just 1 new entry from Luvbug, Bars & Melody will probably enter high and drop quickly towards the end of the week.

And for Jonjo: Kelly Clarkson is performing on Graham Norton show. cheer.gif

Posted by: JosephStyles 15th February 2015, 12:11 AM

Bars and Melody for top 20 at least please! biggrin.gif

EDIT: BAM not out til Monday ughhhhhh

Posted by: MrIndependent 15th February 2015, 12:53 AM

The highest new releases which will more than likely come from LuvBug and Bars & Melody will be fanbase-driven so it is definitely a boring week.

Is the Kelly Clarkson song out next Sunday? It's useful that she has a Graham Norton performance prior to its release; I don't think it will do very well.

Posted by: Joe. 15th February 2015, 12:56 AM

Great start from Luvbug, but I'm still not convinced it'll make the top ten officially. It has been on pre-order so long it's probably just very front loaded. It's only been like #300 all week so I don't think it'll be popular enough to stay top ten a week.

Posted by: steve201 15th February 2015, 01:04 AM

Nothing out at all hopefully a NE for Drake, Davud Guetta and a few other risers in the top 40!

Posted by: Joe. 15th February 2015, 01:07 AM

Really hope Charli doesn't fall too much this week.

The opposite for Chris Brown.

Imdoubtful Revive will make the official top 10 (hoping at least iTunes top 10 though).
Also, no surprise Funk is back to 2 kink.gif
Agreed it's another boring week mellow.gif but we may get a couple of new entries further down the top 100 since not all releases are in the schedule thinking.gif

Yes, but if the track is bought as opposed to being pre-ordered with the album then it will be eligible to chart.

Yet another slow week for new releases. This has to be the most boring year for music ever. zzz.gif

Assuming there's 6 new entries (could even be more if Taylor/Florence make it) in today's chart I make that 23 new entries since the turn of the year. Pretty sure that's higher than the past few years even with streaming included...

Taylor was 69 in the mids though so I doubt she'll have risen 30 places unfortunately. Florence could well sneak in there but I doubt it.

Hopefully ID will hold top 30 even if they are #30.

It's actually been a lot more active and exciting start to the year than 2014 in terms of new music, however none of it is reaching the Top 40.

It's pretty boring for the charts so far but this year is looking set to be possibly my favourite year ever for new music. (Bearing in mind I've only been paying attention to music since 2009).

Posted by: Dobbo 15th February 2015, 03:11 PM

Fair enough. I didn't realise quite so many were released early on I initially thought late Feb/March for a lot of the lower half of that list!

Posted by: April 15th February 2015, 03:12 PM

Wait? What happened to Bars and Actual Melody?

Posted by: JosephStyles 15th February 2015, 03:14 PM

Out tomorrow ~

Posted by: ML Hammer95 15th February 2015, 03:19 PM

Maybe its because the charts feel less relevant than ever? The inclusion of streaming has slowed down the chart making them seem more stale than before.

Also more underground acts and genres like grime, hip hop and more probably feel breaking into the chart seem more remote than ever. So they make music they are passionate about rather than a more watered-down version with one eye on charting. I've heard plenty of new music, but most of it will never chart.

Must admit early 2014 felt like a busier time though.

Posted by: RabbitFurCoat 15th February 2015, 03:58 PM

It's only boring for music if you only follow the charts. I stopped caring about the charts years ago and for me music gets better each year. There's always more of it and it's so easily accessible wherever you are these days. Whatever type of music you enjoy there's no reason not to find a tonne of new stuff you like if you care for it. So far this year I've downloaded 62 singles. I'd be surprised if more than about two of them have made, or will make, the top 100.

There were other years which I thought were really boring too in the first few months. I think 2011 was one of them, I remember songs like Yeah 3x, Champion, Price Tag spending absolutely ages in the top 10 just because there was nothing else going on. The last few months of 2011 were a huge let-down too, since 2009 and 2010 were so chaotic during X Factor season, and I expected it to be like that every year, but in 2011 there wasn't much happening. There was a week where Read All About It and Earthquake were released, and One Direction and JLS had hit singles, but I can't remember much else. I think Olly Murs had a song climb to #1, or was that a different year? My point is, this isn't the first time, and it could get better in a few months, although I think with streaming the chart is going to be slow forever now.

The charts aren't that important anyway. Ever since I stopped listening to Capital/Heart regularly I never hear half the songs anymore. Even last year there was a song called Budapest which almost got in the year-end top 10 and I've still never heard it.

The frustrating thing about following 'new music' and the charts simultaneously is that you see why the charts are so stale. Bakermat's "Teach Me" and Mike Mago's "Outlines" - as examples - have been around for months now, so it doesn't surprise me one bit that they are dropping fast out of the T40 meaning long-running hits are just on the climb again. I'm actually quite enjoying the inclusion of streaming (at the moment at least), it separates the bonafide 'hits' from those that just collected months worth of pre-orders.

Good to see the latter two appearing (again?). This whole release was handled very strangely, I'm just hoping the band can get a #1 album out of it and a couple of hits.

Tbf, a lot of these "long-running hits" were held back releases too. Songs like Stay With Me or Bang Bang were premiered almost two months before release - so technically should have been front loaded too.

I think a lot of held-back releases would never get into the top 40 without collecting loads of pre-orders anyway. Take 'Body Language' for example - it was released OA/OS and stayed around the 40-100 mark for ages, but if it was held-back a bit, I'm sure it would have achieved a couple of weeks in the top 40.

Maybe the reason the chart is stale, is because the majority of those who contribute to it (e.g. buy or stream music) don't actively seek out new music?

Why are the album charts so slow at updating themselves? Somehow Imagine Dragon are only #03 and Charli XCX is only 14. Charli has been top #60 for the last couple of days and I thought it would be certain she would go straight into the top 10 on iTunes.

Maybe the fact Charli deleted the pre-order she'd had up for months and changed it 4 weeks ago has affected the climb?

Her fan-base should be enough to get it at least top 20, and top 30 with streaming in the official charts.

Posted by: Rush 16th February 2015, 04:15 PM

I think Only Human should do alright (watch me be totally wrong like CSL/IDC). I feel like streaming's growth may actually inadvertently help her, as other songs' sales become lower while she still has a dedicated fanbase more likely to buy her songs.

I don't think that was actually released in the end. Cheryl has a single EP etc for 'Only Human' which will probably give it a decent peak. I hope it does well, as I hated her last two singles.

Yeah I know, I wasn't really suggesting it will only make #97 but even with the EP I think it will be lucky to go Top 20. Hopefully I'm wrong though, it is actually a decent song (although I'm still undecided about the "drum and bass" radio edit).

Only Human seems to be getting heavy airplay on the TV channels, which is why I expected it to be at least 1500 + her Facebook page also seems to post the link every 3 minutes

Posted by: London81 16th February 2015, 06:09 PM

Music TV channels really aren't all that popular anymore and don't impact hugely on the main charts and unless your a fan of Cheryl, I doubt very much you'll be getting her Facebook updates every 3 minutes.

There is a 'new' 59p batch. With only 15 songs (I can only assume that means they'll add more?)

Thinking Out Loud has been transferred there from the Valentine's one though - I was really hoping this would be promptly removed and have a nice fall out of the top ten sad.gif

I'm so glad 'Thinking Out Loud' is no longer 59p, hopefully it'll fall from the top 10 now. 'Doing It' should have been added to the 59p batch!

Posted by: mazedsalvy 17th February 2015, 11:37 AM

Some decent 59p songs there! As much as I used to dislike Bad Day, it's annoyingly catchy. Great to have These Words, How U Remind Me, Get Your Freak On and as depressing as it is, Angels, and of course, my favourite, Latch.

Come on Disclosure! If you're not releasing any more material from your incredible debut album, Settle, you best make a 2nd album!

Yes but regardless of already being 59p, songs featured in the advertised 59p batch always get a boost.

wub.gif at Get Ur Freak On, Low, Black & Yellow, Can You Hear Me (Ayayaya) & Latch being reduced to 59p.

59p batches:

re.gif 77. Coolio- Gangsters Paradise
re.gif 86. Missy Elliot- Get Your Freak On
re.gif 95. Owl City- Fireflies
re.gif 96. Nickleback- How U Remind Me

Really surprised Latch isn't on there to be fair, it was on the outskirts of the Top 100 in the UK for almost two years after it left I remember. It never really went away. I'm pretty sure that Latch was at #101 for 2 weeks straight after being in the Top 100 for almost a year.

What an insane 59p batch this week, if only the likes of Missy and Shakira could re-enter this week, would be quite the lovely shake-up to the chart. A gurl can dream.

Glad that 'Style' seems to be capturing the publics imagination too and is looking to scrape this week's chart, I prefer it SO much to its predecessors this era.

68. KING

Sure fire number 1! Their Pre Orders are SO GOOD and stable, just going up.

Posted by: Noahspike 17th February 2015, 05:14 PM

I was going to say I couldn't be happier 'King' looks like it'll be huge as I adore it and haven't stopped playing it since it surfaced...but a part of me is disappointed it's not 'Take Shelter' getting this attention as that's still their best work by quite a margin sleep.gif. Regardless, everything I've heard from them is of a remarkably high quality so I'm glad they're having their well-deserved breakthrough.

I haven't been too invested in Years & Years (the odd listen here and there when seeing you praise them so highly Noah is all I've done kink.gif) but 'King' is properly connecting with me now. Those "ohoahaoahoahaoahss" especially the opening ones are sensational. The rest of the song slots in between those nicely too. Will actually support them (or rather that) being big now biggrin.gif

Capital is the one that makes the hits. She's also had airplay on a lot of the other commercial stations too. She's had more than enough to get her a top 10 if the song deserves it.

Brilliant to see Kelly C doing decently too! I'm confident she'll get a top 10 with it, especially as it's pre-orders seem to have done better than Charli's pre-orders did. It sounded so unique at the time that I think it took a lot of time to grow on people. The brass instruments have become part of their signature sound, I wonder if they change that for the second album?

It's a great song though wub.gif

Given it's gone from 0.1520 to 0.3082 (and would now be 0.33+ to have overtaken Maroon 5), I think it could definitely catch up with DJ Fresh. Regardless, it's fantastic to see this song boosted towards the top of the charts where it belongs. Yes it's a pretty average track from Guetta after "Dangerous", but it's too good not to be a hit; and I'm just thankful the label/he didn't go with the diabolical "Hey Mama".

Posted by: Joe. 21st February 2015, 01:57 PM

I was never fussed about the song, but since eastenders it's been in my head all day. Helps that it's at the top of the 59p batch when you open it too. What are we predicting for this?

Top 30? #29

Posted by: Dobbo 21st February 2015, 02:00 PM

I'd kinda forgot about it after the XF performance but good to see it make a resurgence and surely a repeak.

One of the middle tracks on the album for me, decent but not standout. Hey Mama is so much better (definitely in the minority on this one though laugh.gif)

Kelly up to 102 now biggrin.gif looking very certain to go top 10 now. Just hope now its streaming performance will be decent next week.

Yes, 'Hey Mama' is atrocious!

Posted by: gavindeejay 21st February 2015, 02:04 PM

When you think about it, lyrically the song was perfect. It reflected the episode as a whole and represented what Jane, Mick and Phil did for their families.

Hope it can stay Top 10 into next week. Being 59p should help it.

As long as it doesn't end up outpeaking 'Dangerous'. To me it's just another lazy and dull song from him and a MASSIVE step down from 'Dangerous' which was his best single for years.

Hey Mama is by FAR the best on the album! It's good to see him doing something different, I hate when DJs like him and Calvin Harris do most of their albums on autopilot drama.gif In those cases it's usually the featured artist who redeems the songs but on Calvin Harris' album even Tinashe and Gwen Stefani (well, the latter can't carry her own songs this era let alone anyone else's) who I LOVE can't elevate the songs above about a 7/10.

Yeah, it was a great song to sum up the episode, but also something upbeat for the fireworks.

If only they played Madonna - Living For Love. She would be coming for #1 next week. wink.gif

YAY for Kelly, both that and Disciples going top 10 next week would be an ideal result for me.

(And Madonna but that's a pipe dream)
Kelly is going to miss top 10 unless she can climb to about 4 on Wednesday, due to BRITS effect. drama.gif (I didn't take this into consideration the other day! sad.gif)

Oh dear I completely forgot about the Brits. Hopefully she'll go top 20 and maybe climb to the top 10 the week after? She has Loose Women on Monday 2nd March I believe. Urgh if only she released a week or two later.

Madonna not top 1500? ohmy.gif

Posted by: Joe. 21st February 2015, 06:16 PM

It's not just Radio 1 snubbing Madonna, it's everyone. Hence the 0 pre-orders.

Posted by: April 21st February 2015, 06:18 PM

It won't help releasing on Wednesday either.

Nope, it's just not doing anything

Posted by: gavindeejay 21st February 2015, 06:23 PM

She's gonna have to have a massive performance on the Brits for this 'Livin' For Love' do anything. I'm predicting low Top 40 at best.

I've seen the video a few times today, not that it has more of an effect than radio

I think I've heard it on Radio 2 a couple of times, if it's the one that sounds like a lame version of 'Love Is Gonna Lift You Up'?

I think she's listen on their playlist, but I don't think she's getting many plays if any.

Great to see The Voice boosting this nicely! At this rate, Chandelier may outlast "Elastic Heart" laugh.gif Although saying that, the latter's airplay is improving and it's now top 40 on the 7-day rolling airplay chart. biggrin.gif

#93. Kelly Clarkson - Heartbeat Song (pre-order)

Looks like that's the highest it'll be until release in 30 minutes! Should be able to go top 5 on iTunes I think, given that competition is fairly low. Fingers crossed she'll build up a decent lead before the Brits so she can hang on to a top 10 placing.
