Because he's just not got the same charm as any of the other members IMO. Even watching 'This Is Us' he was a bit bland in comparison (I did like him in that more-so than I did going into the film, however).

I'd be very surprised if they won Best Group, pop acts never really do. I'm still bitter from when Girls Aloud were nominated and ELBOW won.

They won 'Global Success' last year so it would be a bit ridiculous if they won it this year as well, especially considering that it seemed as though the award was made up on the night.

A very interesting article I found on tumblr, more about music in general but he uses One Direction as his main example.
Oh, sure, along with its music, there are apps, clothing lines, fragrances, and board games with the members’ handsome faces plastered all over them. But crass commercialism is part and parcel of any decent pop project. Andy Warhol once said: “Making money is art and working is art and good business is the best art.”
Let’s hope these lads have another 15 minutes of fame left in them, because the empire they’ve built up in three years is awe-inspiring. Hell, I’m positive Warhol would even love their cover that mashes up Blondie’s “One Way or Another” and the Undertones’ “Teenage Kicks”. “Gee, that’s great,” he’d say.
That pop music is vapid and lacking substance is an ignorant notion. Pop is the most interesting and culturally relevant music out there. Rock, EDM, and their multitude of indie subgenres are what’s moribund these days. I’ll happily give the latest One Direction album a play over some Bearhunter side project that was anointed a nine-point-whatever on a sycophantic music blog last week.
Boy bands—from Hanson to NKOTB to the Rolling Stones—have always had a difficult time being taken seriously. That’s a damn shame, because they’re tackling real issues with their music, and it speaks on a global scale to young women dealing with their hormones. Most bands I catch are bar window-dressing who interrupt my important conversations. Have you ever seen the blissed-out expression on a Directioner’s face when they hear “What Makes You Beautiful” performed live? It stimulates a spiritual experience that’s more powerful than ayahuasca could ever give them.
Appealing largely to women is a sure-fire way to never get the critical recognition you deserve. Plain and simple, it’s snobbishness that’s rooted in sexism. You see, music writing is overpopulated with annoying white dudes. (I’d know. I’m one of them and still curse my parents to this day because of it. Inconsiderate assholes.)
At present, think tanks made up of our country’s biggest music nerds are busy heaping praise, awards, and novelty-size cheques on Arcade Fire, Feist, and Metric—basically the aural equivalent of a dogs-playing-poker poster. (And people wonder why the music and publishing industries are in the shitter.)
While this is going on, timeless classics by Justin Bieber and Carly Rae Jepsen, which have the grandness and beauty of Jeff Koons sculptures, get ignored. A hundred years from now, I guarantee “Baby” and “Call Me Maybe” will still be around and making us smile. The mere mention of boring Cancon acts will get you banished to the Forbidden Zone where you’ll have to deal with cannibals.
So have fun stroking your chins, making snide remarks, and being too cool to look like you’re having a good time in half-empty concert venues this weekend, f***ers. I’ll be at the One Direction show in a stadium full of people who are having the time of their lives. Hopefully, Harry notices me, but failing that, I’d settle for Louis.

Wow, what a brilliant article! Such truth as well, especially in the last couple of paragraphs! I honestly hate it when someone automatically brands you "gay" or laughs at you, etc when you say / they find out you like One Direction. At least it's a love you can share with almost the whole world while the kind of music they listen to won't see the light of day because it's "too cool" to fall into the pop category.

A teenage One Direction fan has collapsed and died outside her school, prompting hundreds of tributes from fellow "Directioners".
Sixteen-year-old Magdalena Szablinska suffered a cardiac arrest as she stood at a bus stop outside St Mark's Catholic School in Hounslow, London.
Despite doctors desperate efforts they were unable to save her, leaving her parents struggling to come to terms with the death of their "angel".
Her dad Tadeusz told the Evening Standard: “We are trying to come to terms with this. She was an angel and everybody has said so. So many people have contacted us to pay their respects, she was so loved.
“She liked One Direction and had so many friends on Facebook, she loved school and was very popular and doing very well, she was our star.”
Magdalena, known as Magda, had had her photograph taken with One Direction dozens of times, and ran a Twitter fan account called @1DCrew, amassing nearly 10,000 followers.
Following her tragic death, many of them paid tribute to her using the hashtag #RIPMagda.
Messages included: "#RIPMagda You were a truly dedicated Directioner. Now you have earned your wings and can watch over our boys."
Another said: "#RIPMagda I still can't believe that they are no longer here. She was so beautiful! I will never forget her! I'm broken by this."
The Evening Standard also reported Magda's headteacher Paul Enright had been to visit her parents at their Hayes home last night to deliver the results from her mock AS Level exams.
The bright student scored A grades, despite being unable to speak English when she first arrived in London from Poland eight years ago.
Mr Enright said: "She was a really special girl, so full of life and good humour. She was a bright girl and picked up English very quickly. We were expecting her to get very good A level grades. She had tremendous potential.
“She was always looking out for her friends and was a role model for other students. Any young death is a tragedy but this has been particularly sad for the community.”
What a massive shame.
My thoughts are with her family, and I'm glad she got the opportunity to meet Harry!

Although just rumoured before and played down (kind of), Simon has said there are going to be talks of a One Direction TV show (reality or not?):
However, The X Factor mastermind says their upcoming fourth studio album remains the priority.
Speaking at Britain’s Got Talent auditions in London today, Cowell, 54, said: ‘I think there’s something in the works, a possible TV show. We’re going to be talking about that in the next couple of weeks.
‘They’re always busy these guys. But the important bit is they’ve got a new album out this year.’
I think this could be great, and whatever channel it's going to be on will surely give them some record-breaking ratings!

One Direction have developed people skills since becoming famous pop stars.
The 'Little Things' hitmakers - consisting of Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson - are currently the biggest boy band in the world and they think their confidence has soared since they took part in 'The X Factor' in 2010.
Liam, 20 said: ''I think for me - and for you, Zayn - we weren't that confident and because you have to talk to so many people it gives you so many more people skills. When I used to go to family parties as a kid I couldn't hold a conversation. Even with my own uncle. So it's nice that I've now got those skills.''
Zayn, 21, added: ''It's really built our confidence and our social skills. We do find it a bit easier to carry ourselves and speak to people - it's cool.''
However, Niall and Harry, both 20, have joked that it's all ''downhill'' for them now because they've reached their twenties and have started coming into their own.
Niall said: ''Like getting on stage - last year alone we did over 100 shows. So that helps with confidence. But I think we've all become our own people now because we're at that age where we're all turning 20 and we are who we are now, I guess.''
Harry added to We Love Pop magazine: ''We're over the hill, he's trying to say. It's all downhill from here!''

I'm quite surprised at what Liam said tho, he comes across as super confident, the most confident in the group for me personally. I'd have never thought that although Niall is quite a chatterbox I've noticed.
If only I had met Liam before X Factor, I would have gave him all the skills and confidence he needed

The Metro have an article about what was said at the BRITs by the boys last night, seemingly twisting it to make out as if there's friction among them:
Niall alluded to the fact that things may not be going swimmingly for the boys when he revealed on Twitter that the fivesome hadn’t been ‘together for a while’ earlier in the day. However, it was Liam who really twisted the knife in when he admitted that they’d not seen each other in THREE MONTHS before today.
Speaking to James Corden at the bash, Liam, 20, said this evening’s event was ’the first time we’ve seen each other in about three months.’
Harry, Niall, Liam, Zayn and Louis are due to kick of their Where We Are stadium tour in South America in April.
FGS, they were just on an extended break seeing their family, etc.

To be honest I wouldn't be surprised if there are rifts between the band. Harry seems slightly detached from the rest of the band. I think he'll leave before the band splits up.

It wouldn't surprise me if they hadn't spoken at all during the break! They hadn't seen their families, friends, etc for months because of the schedule and to finally get the time to go out and embrace being able to do all that before beginning the cycle again will have been lovely! I can't say I noticed any tension at all among them last night and they all seemed in touch with each other (Harry didn't seem distant from the others 
).

At the 2014 Brits they took home the award for 'Global Success'.
The boys also bagged the British Artist Video of the Year award which was voted for by fans on Twitter during the show.
More proof of the fan power of the countless 'Directioners' and of the band's international superstardom - but what is it that makes them so successful?
Money matters
The Global Success Award is presented to the act with the highest international sales - minus UK sales - achieved during the year.
This means they have a huge following outside of their home countries - the UK and Ireland - and this isn't an easy thing to do.
They're huge in America which is an incredible boost for sales; according to Nick Gatfield, the chairman and chief executive of Sony Music Entertainment UK, One Direction represented a $50 million business by June 2012. and it's since been reported the band will hit the one billion dollar mark in 2014!
Sinead Garvan from BBC Radio 1's Newsbeat says One Direction have lots of ways to make money.
She says: "They have fans of the generation that will actually buy albums. They do extensive tours which are already sold out so that will make them a lot of money. But also merchandise, these are a band who have their own fragrances, posters - anything with One Direction on, you can buy it."
In April 2013 the band made the Sunday Times Rich List, and according to that they each had an estimated combined wealth of £25 million ($41.2m), making them the second wealthiest musicians in the UK under 30 years old (topped only by Adele).
After the release of Midnight Memories, One Direction became the first band in US Billboard 200 history to have their first three albums debut at number one.
Superstar support
The boys famously formed after taking part in The X Factor in 2010; they were grouped together during the competition and went on to finish third.
But that didn't stop Simon Cowell - who owns part of the company behind the show - snapping them up with a record deal.
From there, they shot to superstardom; their three albums, Up All Night, Take Me Home and Midnight Memories have broken several records and topped the charts of most major markets.
Music industry critics say their success is largely down to being backed by Simon Cowell and a powerful record label, as well as using social media to stir up a huge fan base.
One 'Directioners'
One Directioners are nearly as famous as the band itself; that's the nickname given to loyal 1D fans, and in a previous interview Twitter's head of entertainment for the UK, Sunil Singhvi said: "It was the UK fans' excitement about One Direction that really got them started."
He added: "The fans' ability, via Twitter, to tell Europeans about One Direction really catapulted them there, then from Europe to America, and now it's a global phenomenon."
The boys are keen tweeters and their management say they do all their own tweeting, using the social networking site to give behind-the-scenes glimpses of their lives.
After the 2014 Brit Awards the group posted a message saying: "Wow - we're still thinking about just how incredible 1D fans really are!"
Staying popular
Radio 1 Newsbeat's entertainment report Chi Chi Izundu says: "record sales in the UK would suggest it's on the decline (not by a huge amount) but still popular around the world."
She added: "The shelf life of an X Factor band is normally only 3 years - so they've already surpassed that."
Harry Styles famously said in an interview: "we all sat and watched the film of The Beatles arriving in America. And, to be honest, that really was like us...."
"...Stepping off the plane, the girls, the madness. It was exactly the same as when we got there - just 50 years earlier."
Speaking to Top of the Pops Magazine, the musician added: "None of us think we're in the same league as them music-wise. We'd be total fools if we did.
"Fame-wise, it's probably even bigger, but we don't stand anywhere near them in terms of music."
...a little bit of luck
And, of course, 1D's success is down to a little bit of luck.
Just think - what if one of them hadn't entered that series of the X-Factor? What if the judges hadn't noticed their potential? What if Harry had lost his voice on the day of his first audition? Well then, the biggest boyband in the UK...might never have been!

Matt Brinkler, 24, Henry Allan, 23, Jamie Searls, 23, Aaron Foster, 23, and David Ribi, 22, call themselves Only One Direction although they bear little resemblance to the real boyband.
That hasn’t stopped them earning thousands of pounds from tours, birthday parties and festival appearances where fans often storm the stage.
The band play a one-hour set, filled full of hits, after learning all of the band’s songs.
David, who sings as Niall, told The Daily Star: ‘I think the best way to describe it is to say it’s like being in a flash mob.
‘There’s all this greatness and craziness when you’re on stage and then as soon as you’ve done the meet and greet afterwards – everything goes back to normal.
‘It’s like you’re famous for a little while and you get the buzz of being on stage – but none of the stresses and pressure – you can just walk down the street like a normal guy.’
Aaron, who stands in for Liam Payne, added: ‘The reaction of people when we perform is crazy.
‘It’s mental – when there are girls crying, they want you to touch their hands and sign their skin – its a really surreal experience.’

Their absence at tonight’ smatch comes after Liam hinted that all was not well with the band at the Brits. But while Hazza heals his Kendall Jenner heartbreak in Los Angeles, Zayn – thought to be on home turf – could be excused as the cracks begin to show in his relationship with Perrie Edwards.

Pretty sure Liam made a point of stating there were no problems between them; they just needed time to see their families? And of course the press must be drying up at the moment so they'll need to sensationalise Zayn and Perrie's relationship. :/

Although I take everything the likes of The Metro writes with a pinch of salt, I'd never be completely adamant that absolutely everything is ok between an active group. You just never know what goes on behind closed doors, and a band always try to maintain a positive image to the public that all is well, regardless of how things are. However, when a split happens, then usually it all starts to come out of the woodwork, and it transpires that there was actually some truth behind the gossip and rumours. It's the same with countless acts I've followed over the years.
Personally I have a feeling that all is okay with them, especially on a professional level, for the time being. I get the impression that they're all far too sensible to create rifts while they're *so* successful, and will have intentions to keep going for as long as they can maintain this level of success. They'd be pretty mad not to!

Simon hoped their This is Us documentary would put them in line for a gong after breaking box-office records around the world.
He also hoped their hit Best Song Ever would land Best Original Song, and was stunned when it didn’t even make the 75-track shortlist.
The documentary was produced by Morgan Spurlock, former Oscar nominee for Supersize Me which, Simon felt, put it in a good position.
A source said: “Simon is disappointed. Some of the tracks on the list are virtually unknown.”

The boys are One Direction’s biggest earners thanks to their songwriting skills.
They’re bound to be raking in far more than Zayn Malik, Niall Horan or Harry because writers usually get around 9% of royalties for each song.
And the hardworking lads – who had writing credits on half the songs on their latest album Midnight Memories – are already in the studio busy writing their next album.
Spilling the beans on their secret to success, Liam told The Sun: ‘Louis and I have a little partnership going on. We’ve been pretty keen to start writing straight away.
‘I’ve been in the studio already, it’s been going really well. Learning how to write is the best way of ensuring your career has longevity and that you have control over it.
‘I really think the next album is going to be a game-changer for us. I’m excited.’
It’s not just music sales 1D make money on. They also have world tours, branded perfume, clothing, a movie, stationery and OnePieces. Their last total worth was estimated at £100million.

He headed to Harvey Weinstein’s exclusive pre-Oscars bash at the weekend in Los Angeles and now the rumour that’s rife in Tinseltown is that the curly-haired heartthrob made quite the impression with film bosses – including Weinstein.
But Universal Pictures, who are making Wicked, might get in there first.
‘Harry is very focused on his singing career but there’s a real buzz about him. Movie makers see him as a new Zac Efron and think he would be a perfect casting for a movie musical,’ a source told The Sun.
‘He’s top of the Wicked team’s wish list to play the romantic lead role of Fiyero – who becomes The Scarecrow in the Wizard of Oz.’
And Weinstein apparently told the publication that he’s keen to make Harry a Hollywood star too, adding: ‘First he’s got to date three of my daughters. They all think that he’s extremely handsome.’

The boys in the band One Direction are reaching out to a few different bands for possible collaborations, including hot new girl band Neon Jungle.
The band's Amira McCarthy, 17, told the Daily Star newspaper: ''Liam Payne knew who we were and said he was listening to our song in the car. He said that he'd really like to write for us, so we're waiting for the song.''
American boy band 5 Seconds Of Summer - who supported One Direction on tour - have also been jamming with Niall and are said to be working on ideas for songs.
Member Calum Hood, 18, said: ''We found our common ground was Busted. So there's a few pop rock ideas kicking around already. We'd love to make it happen.''
The news come after Liam, 20, and Louis Tomlinson, 22, were named as One Direction's biggest earners after co-writing almost half of the songs on their album 'Midnight Memories', while Harry has also written a song with John Legend for US 'X Factor' duet Alex and Sierra.
Liam said: ''We're really enjoying the writing process and we've recorded some of the best material ever for the next album. It's a real step forward.''
Niall, 20, has also been learning new chords on his guitar having been taught by friends Ed Sheeran, 23, and Olly Murs, 29.
He said: ''I get the guitar out whenever I can. Writing music is really therapeutic.''

And Jason Derulo, 24, was helped by a host of stars including One Direction when it came to promoting his new R&B single Talk Dirty.
The Watcha Say singer has released a clip featuring Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan, Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson lip-synching to his track. 
Harry Styles and his bandmates are offering free concert tickets to fans who engage with politics through Global Citizen, an international organisation promoting social activism and tackling issues that perpetuate global poverty.
Music fans can acquire points towards tickets by completing tasks such as sending a pre-written letter to George Osborne (two extra points are available if they write their own letter).
Katy Perry, Arcade Fire, Bastille, The National and McBusted are also taking part, as well as veteran stars including Monty Python, Pearl Jam and Neil Young. Global Citizen have likened to project to an online Live Aid.

The singer-and-rapper has exchanged conversations with both Olly and boybanders Harry Styles and Liam Payne about working on new music together.
He said: "I'm up for working with Olly Murs. I've spoken to him about writing for him.

The Kids Again star also feels he has grown up since tying the knot with Australian model-and-actress Erin McNaught in May 2013.
He explained to Britain's Star magazine: "I'm not too bothered trying to be cool any more.
"Rock bands, when they're younger, are like, 'F**k him, f**k them, they're not cool, they're too mainstream.'
"Then, as you get older, they lighten up, they get married, and have kids, and they're just hugging and smiling at everyone. I think I'm doing the same."

"Story Of My Life" is going to become the 3rd One Direction track to be covered by Glee (not counting "One Way Or Another" which they did before the band ), this time by Kurt & Blaine during the 18th episode of the current season!
Expected this to happen with it being a massive US hit, just wish it was someone else singing it.

Young girls and boys - and a few mums too - brought signs declaring their love for Niall Horan, Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson and waited up to six hours to see the band.
A selfie snapped with Harry Styles by one lucky fan, Liam Sales, went viral on the internet after being posted on the Advertiser website yesterday evening.
The picture was taken after the band arrived in convoy at the Sheds at around 1.30pm.
Only Harry Styles stopped to get out of the car and speak to fans, while the others drove past waving from inside their vehicles.
Rumours started circulating about the band being in the county earlier this week.
A video posted by a New Cardington resident shows lights coming from one of the Sheds late at night.

There is a whole new crop of boy bands on the scene, looking to steal hearts and dominate the charts. They have a long way to go before they are in the same league with One Direction, which is still unquestionably on top but seemingly has an expiration date in the not-too-distant future. Speaking to Capital's Max at the Ivor Novello Awards, the producer explained that he has been recording new music with the boyband in the studio.
"Zayn's actually quite a good rapper," he said. "We've been in the studio doing some One Direction stuff and you know, he can spit bars! Of course he can! Big up Zayn and his bars."
Naughty Boy also revealed that the song includes collaborations with Emeli Sandé and Sam Roman.
He stated: "The song's amazing that we've done. Emeli [Sandé]wrote on it as well and this new guy Sam Roman who's on my next single as well."
The 'La La La' producer explained that it wasn't a natural decision to record with One Direction.
"No, no, no, it wasn't," he said. "I actually turned [the opportunity] down the last two albums. [But then] I met Zayn at the Brits."
Naughty Boy explained that he had a "natural understanding" with Malik because of their backgrounds.
"We're both from Pakistani backgrounds. We both come from similar kind of backgrounds," he said. "He's from Bradford, I'm from Watford. In terms of how we grew up, there was a natural understanding."

According the British Phonographic Institute (BPI), the boys were firmly in first place on the global sales chart, followed by rapper Eminem in second place.
Not only that, but this is the sixth time in seven years that an artist from the UK has topped the chart... proving what a blimmin' talented lot we all are.
And the British takeover doesn't stop there, as Robbie Williams' Swing Both Ways came in at number 18 and David Bowie's comeback The Next Day was in 35th place, with Mumford and Sons and Adele both doing pretty darn well too.
BPI spokesman Gennaro Castaldo said: "For home-grown talent to have recorded the world's biggest-selling album six out of the last seven years is a phenomenal achievement that says a great deal about the popularity of British music around the world.
"Aside from the obvious contribution to British exports, this success underlines the vital role our music and artists play in promoting the appeal of British culture around the world."

One and Only Direction are set to perform at the Village Theatre on Saturday, September 13.
And the boys promise to deliver pop mega stars’ One Direction’s greatest hits at the gig.
The group were formed earlier this year by Lanarkshire man Scott Garvie (29), who runs a tribute act agency.
It took him around a year to select the guys who make up the tribute act, as he wanted a band who looked as close to the real group as possible.
However, he got more than he bargained for earlier this year, when two of the quintet – Richard Dickson and Liam Fergusson, who are Harry Styles and Niall Horan in the tribute act – were mistaken for the real deal when One Direction played at Murrayfield.
Scott said: “A lot of people thought this was a publicity stunt, but Richard and Liam really had just bought tickets to go and enjoy the show.
“They were being asked for pictures by girls before they went in, and it was just chaos when they went into the actual stadium – girls really thought they were the real One Direction and everything started kicking off. They were swamped. Security ended up taking them away because of how wild it was getting.”
Scott reckons One and Only Direction are as close to the real band as possible. He added: “They’re great lookalikes, but they can sing really well too, and hit all the harmonies required.
“Ever since we put them together they’ve got on really well, and that comes across when you see them perform. The reaction so far has been great.”
Tickets for the gig are priced at £12/£10 and £15 for a meet and greet with the boys backstage.

I think the whole point of them having breaks is so they can escape from the world of celebrity and do their own thing with family / friends, so I don't see how you can say because Zayn does exactly that he won't find some sort of fame after One Direction. -x-

Booze lovers have been left sobbing into their pint glasses today as it was confirmed that the Great Welsh Beer and Cider Festival in Cardiff is officially off the cards, after they 'double booked' the Millenium Stadium against 1D.

Not to worry, we're pretty sure Nialler might have left them bankrupt by eating all of their pork scratchings anyway.
Basically the One Direction boys were originally set to play at the stadium the day before the festival, but after the gig sold out in one milisecond (nearly), they decided to stick another one on the schedule, clashing with the drinking thingy.
Apparently it's quite a big deal and people are well annoyed as the festival has been running for 20 years, and a completely random bloke called Simon Harris told The Mirror that he's NOT HAPPY.
"The festival is the highlight of my year and now it's been ruined because of these pop idiots. I hope they're happy with themselves - there are a lot of upset drinkers who will be crying into their beer over this", he said.
Errr, we're around 94.2% sure that the pop idiots absolutely will not care, sorry mate. We'd offer to buy you a very expensive beer at the On The Road Tour to cheer you up a bit, but unfortunately for you IT'S SOLD OUT HAHA.

Earlier this week Dan Wootton had written a article about Louis trashing a hotel room, there was so much proof Louis wasn't even in that hotel and he wasn't drunk either but Dan ignored the proof. I don't know what went wrong but he suddenly went from licking their arses to dragging them down. He is just a sad piece of trash.
