Singer-turned-DJ Sonique's breast cancer has spread.
The former S'Express vocalist, who had a number one with It Feels So Good in 2000, was diagnosed with the disease last week.
She underwent surgery to remove a lump from her breast at a hospital in London's Harley Street on Monday - but was later told the devastating news that the disease has spread.
According to Sky News, doctors have confirmed the disease has now spread to lymph nodes under her arms, and possibly to her organs.
Sonique was undergoing further surgery on Friday.
Her agent Cath MacKenzie says, "As you would imagine she was very distressed. The surgeon doesn't feel he got all the cancer out. She is bearing up very well but yesterday was a difficult day when she heard the news."
from Yahoo.
Devastating news..... I saw Sonique DJing countless times throughout the 90s, and she's a really lovely lady... I wish her nothing but the very best.
Yeah its not nice . She did some good songs.
Yeah I've read this elsewhere Hope she has a healthy recovery soon. I miss her music, loved Sky back then
I'm devastated to hear about it as well, it will be a miracle now if she beats it.
I'm incredibly sad to hear this...I wasn't a huge fan of her music, but regardless, she always seems like a very likeable person and it's a horrible thing for her to go through
I really hope a miracle does happen for her
I read about it yesterday...am absolutely sad. She has so many good songs.
That's awful, she's only about 40 as well.
She DJ'd at a club in my town last year, I agree, really nice woman. I hope a miracle can help her pull through, cancer seems to have hit quite a lot of people in the public eye this year.
No... I hope she recovers soon.
I heard Sky on the radio today... very sad news
Very sad news indeed.
Hopefully the fact they operated and diagnosed her so quick will provide her with a strong chance of beating this terrible disease, im sure this is a very tough time for her and her family and friends but i hope she can beat it with time, i was never a huge fan of her music but i loved sky and she had a comeback all planned with a new single coming out in july before all this happened. Fingers croosed all will go well and she will get to release and perform her new material.

I hope we get to hear a finished version of Platnum' Trippin
Things started to go wrong with them when they became the Basshunternation.
Secret location? I can hardly imagine the paparazzi and crazy fans showing up to see her.
OMG, really?
Superclub Fabric looks to be the latest victim of the recession - rumours are spreading that it's gone into administration with the loss of up to 100 jobs.
I for one will be sad to see it go if only for the incredible mix CDs they release every month - some of these are thebest mix CDs ever released IMO.... sad news.
Devastated.
A real shame... I'm glad I got to see them live. Twice! Bloody amazing live act and have left behind one hell of a legacy!
OH
Bit of a shocker, although admittedly as far as Faithless go I'm still very much stuck in 2006 - Bombs is HUGELY under-rated and Music Matters utterly BEAUTIFUL.
This is a shame. I absolutely love them. <3
Agree with Shoat, 'Music Matters' is utterly beautiful.
Music Matters was probably the last song I liked by them, but they were obviously past their peak even back then.
Awww.
I have to be totally honest and say I never really liked them apart from Insomnia but it's a shame they're splitting up. I always thought they'd just keep on going forever.
Hmm, I had no idea they were still going. Impressive that they managed to make what amounted to really one song last over a 15 year career.
Moody intro
Maxi Jazz raps about nothing in particular
Cut the music
Maxi Jazz says something 'profound'
Sister Bliss plays a one-fingered refrain
Bring beats back in
Repeat to fade
Still, it means they can reform for the festival circuit in a few years to bigger crowds
I blame Tesco!
The Dance was their best album - ever....and, as a fitting tribute, I thin they should release the best track, their best track in a decade, 'Sun To Me'... AWESOME track. Sad news.
Sad news indeed
"The dance" is an excellent album by the way.
3 topics I started last year (as a well deserved tribute to one of the best electronic artists ever IMO)

YES YES YES. To All New Arrivals is the only Faithless album I own but it's fucking superb.
I did like Faithless actually, not a huge fan, I'd probably struggle to remember another song from them bar Insomnia admittedly, but still its a shame
Shame, but they went out on top i suppose and left a great musical legacy.
Shame. But if they feel it's finished, it's finished.
I only recently got into Faithless and I have 3 of their albums - Sunday 8PM, No Roots and Forever Faithless - The Greatest Hits. Not Going Home from The Dance is wonderful though, I want that album too!
A unique band.
Insomnia is genuinely my favourite song ever created. Just SO amazing.
I will admit that a lot of Faithless stuff did sound very similar..... I always much preferred the music to Maxi's ramblings...... but, for any non-fans or casual listeners, you really should invest in The Dance - especially the '...Never Ends' remix bundle - it's cracking... and Sun To Me.... why this was only released as a single in, I think, Belgium.... bonkers - it's a huge stand-out track on the album.... in fact, I'd say it's my favourite Faithless song ever- and it sounds incredible on great speakers in a club or in the car - THAT bassline.... AWESOME....

Im sure they will get a new greatest hits out as im sure the record company will want to cash in.
They actually don't have a record company, their last album was released via Tesco, and I don't think Tesco have the rights for publishing Greatest Hits.
What a surprise this thread was started by Liam!
I'm not surprised to be honest, their next album was going to flop horrifically anyway (and the pressure to produce a third massive hit would be enormous).
Eh. If Redfoo is going to be LMFAO sans that other one anyway then we're not being spared much. I don't think it will be too long until they reunite, but I can only hope they both flop on their own so that the inevitable comeback is also a failure.
I rather like LMFAO's music *get's shunned by Buzzjack*
No. What a sad day for dance music. However if Redfoo is doing a solo career that would be amazing as he is the better of the two.
THE DAY THE MUSIC WAS TAKEN OFF LIFE SUPPORT *.*
They aren't the worst, but they typify the SHIT that has been clogging up the charts for the best part of the last 18 months so I can't say I'm anything less than ECSTATIC at this news.
I actually REALLY got into Sexy & I Know It for a while, and it was everywhere when i went out, but the joke got old really fast.
I'm going to shuffle every day in their memory.
f*** YEAH great news
Thought they would have had an attempt at album #2 - They have had some incredible success and sales and even the album really picked up after a shaky start! Was just looking at their chart history and they have had some epic chart runs - Party Rock Anthem [#1 - 71 weeks], Sexy And I Know It [#5 - 55 weeks] and an impressive 57 week chart run for the album which many dance acts struggle to match.
They have said that they haven't split up and they are just taking a year or two to do solo projects, and they will return ''stronger than ever'' with album 2 a few years down the line, so don't get too excited guys.
I feel a bit harsh but I'm so glad they split up. I HATED the dirge they turned out and all of their singles were awful (apart from Champagne Showers which is average for me). Although booo at RedFoo talking about his solo career...
And Uncle and Nephew team? Oh dear god...
oh thats just sad
http://edm.com/blog/krewella-rainman-lawsuit
MESS. I saw them live last year as trio. They did have the likes of Cash Cash and The Cataracs producing for them on their debut tho. They are very much a fanbase act so I can't really call what their future will be now, it'll be interesting if anything!
It will be interesting to see how this plays out.
the girls' side of the story has come out now and apparently Rain Man was not kicked out and he's just trying to stir up shit. Either way he's no longer part of the group.
http://edm.com/blog/yasmine-krewella
Sugababes 5.0 tbh
next up is the entertainment news with ► ▲ N
I can't imagine this is true, the whole thing (especially the amount she's suing for) reeks of desperation and the proof she has offered is very broad and doesn't support her case enough.
This is not really news, just about every successful musician gets sued for 'plagiarism' at some point or anoter (and then you never hear about it again when it's proven to just be some attention seeker as it always is - although there are a couple of exceptions to that like Baauer's 'Harlem Shake', but that's when it actually DOES become news). If the lyrics were actually stolen why would she wait until NOW to claim it?
(also that thread title makes my face hurt)
Probably only doing this now because "Latch" became big worldwide, ain't gonna let them flop
Neither Disclosure or Aluna George are EDM.
Bad title
yes what has edm got to do with anything here?? confused
do u genuinely believe alunageorge and disclosure are edm artist?! wot
I was referring to the term 'EDM' being horrible and unnecessary in general more than Disclosure not being 'EDM' (which they are by the actual literal meaning of that term).
Literal meaning maybe.
However anyone who knows anything about dance music would not class them as being EDM (thankfully).
Actually Electronic Dance Music (EDM) is the correct technical term for ‘Dance Music’, coined in 1985; it was shortened to ‘Dance Music’ in Europe, but has been used for the last 30 years stateside.
The confusion came around 2009 onwards, when dance music began to see a revival in popularity. In the US the music industry just used the term they always had for dance music - EDM. However it has been, widely and wrongly, assumed outside of the US that ‘EDM’ refers to mainstream electro and progressive house only.
This is a primarily European forum and 'EDM' is a primarily American term. The name of the forum itself is 'dance', why can't the thread just be called 'dance news'?
can we not turn this into an argument of whether the correct term is EDM or dance music? Both are correct. I'll change it to 'news' to stop people arguing, I thought people had accepted the term EDM by now.
I actually suggested calling this the electronic dance music forum but it the forum name was instead changed to dance, electro and house by the admins.
back on topic from this post guys
Disclosure deny stealing lyrics, writing this on their Facebook
Can't wait for their second album!
Katie Farrah Sopher probably doesn't have any evidence to back her claims.
Also, really excited for the next album!
well done to the following representing dance music at the Grammys even if the All of Me remix really isn't all that great. Rather Be is fully deserving of its win though
Best Dance/Electronic Album
Aphex Twin - Syro
Best Dance Recording
Clean Bandit Featuring Jess Glynne - "Rather Be"
Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical
Tijs Michiel Verwest, remixer
John Legend – "All Of Me (Tiesto's Birthday Treatment Remix)"
All Of Me being the best remix of 2014 is still absolutely hilarious, and that is why I love the Grammys.
all of me remix is not the best one, but surely it's better than original.
Tiesto used to be the richest DJ in the world but it looks as if Calvin Harris has overtaken his net worth!
Harris is now worth $110m ; 5 million dollars more than Tiesto. Avicii is in 3rd place with "only" $75m (which is still a LOT of money).
The top 50 richest DJs can be viewed http://www.celebritynetworth.com/list/top-50-richest-djs/.
well I personally prefer Calvin Harris to Tiesto so yay I guess?
KING!
SLAY
Drinks are on Calvin!
Seems insane to think how far he's come since Acceptable In The 80s, that really seemed like a quirky dance one hit wonder at the time.
Not surprising seeing now how many #1s he's had recently, not to mention getting a fair few consecutive of his singles top 10 for a while
I'm surprised David Guetta is "only" #8! I would have thought he'd be top 5 with ease?
Not all that surprising, I imagine a fair amount of his worth is being built up by his growing advertisement; Calvin Klein etc. He's become more than just a DJ and has branched into occasional modelling of recent, so I guess that boosts his royalties.
They just want to be thankful that queen DJ Paris Hilton wasn't included on this list
it's official! Calvin and Taylor are the http://www.youredm.com/2015/06/25/taylor-swift-calvin-harris-are-now-the-highest-paid-celebrity-couple/ celebrity couple, yes that includes Beyoncé and Jay-Z *.*
I imagine it won't be for long given Taylor's past record
http://www.digitalspy.com/music/news/a788513/avicii-has-retired-from-music-in-a-lengthy-open-letter-to-fans/
Well apparently Avicii has 'retired' from music but I'm kind of dubious as to whether this is a premature April Fools prank?
For him to retire I'd thought he would have had to made music in the first place
if this is true I will cry. However I can't see this being real, but the legitimacy of it does look relatively convincing
I just looked on Wayback Machine, that is his official website, and it has changed, so unless it's a prank leaked a few days early or he's been hacked (which I doubt considering the security that must be on the website), it's real
WHAT???!!!
This is very upsetting.
We can only hope. What brilliant news.
considering how awful his music got in the end, I doubt he'll be horribly missed
Someone put Dan on suicide watch
(eh he had a few good songs but was largely rubbish especially recently so no great loss)
Loving the polarisation in this topic.
I can't think of a song of his I've not liked and most of them were some of the best dance tracks of the past few years so that's a shame. But I doubt it'll stay permanent.
I heard it was because he thought Mike Posner was cooler than him.
about f***ing time
Good!!
A lot of that electronic computer beats stuff was hardly what I'd call music tbh.
This is overly depressing! His recent album wasn't as good as it should have been but he's produced a couple of incredible songs and one of the acts I wanted to see live.
What a horrible thing to come back to after Dan's holiday
I wonder what'll happen to the rumoured release of Heaven/the next album then? Hopefully there's a few more tunes he's got left unreleased (On My Own ) that he'll release before he completely retires...
I think it's just a retirement from touring anyway, new music will still be happening (for better or for worse :'))
Please be true.
The Stories era was awful, so if his following music was intended to continue down that path it's no big loss. Waiting For Love, For A Better Day and Pure Grinding remain absolute crap.
He was so good from Collide to A Sky Full Of Stars though,
stop the hate tbh
Look how Justin Bieber retiring from music turned out.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!
gutted that is all
I like both of his albums. I'd be disappointed if this is true given he is relatively young and could have a long career ahead of him still.
Either way, as amazing as Stories was, it would be a healthy decision for him to change the game a bit when he comes back. Who knows, if Heaven or On My Own get a release they could rocket into the charts
This is displeasing news whilst I wasn't a huge fan of his last album Waiting For Love was incredible
That said I do really miss his early days & doubt he would ever create that type of music again. All the best Tim!
Knowing that he has had a couple health issues in the past, it may not surprise me if this is true.
Justin Bieber retired from music in December 2013.
Jay-Z retired from music in 2003.
50 Cent retired in September 2007.
Musicians aren't exactly ones to keep their word.
Although Avicii could still keep making music - he just doesn't have to do the whole touring/publicity thing. There are tons of pop stars out there who would love to work with him. I'm sure we'll hear from him again.
What I'd really rather he did was take a very long break and learn how to be creative again.
DEAAR ME
cAn people not read ???
he's only retiring from touring, not music altogether.
it's very sad nonetheless that I won't get to see him on tour again but at least I saw him once.
I'm sure another album is coming. probably not this year though .
the world will probably not be able to cope with a dj not pushing buttons in front of crowds
Typically people think that DJs are not very rich. Local club DJ usually get paid about $ 200-300 per night. Basically most of them have permanent work. So we can say that DJing is a part-time job or serious hobby. Ofcourse if you are talented person and will become more famous your earnings will increase. Let see who is the most successful DJ in our days.
Here is the list by total net worth:
beatport's parent company sfx filed for bankruptcy protection earlier this year and the site was due to be auctioned off last week, but that has now been suspended for now~
yesterday it was announced that the streaming, news and events sections of the site are to be scrapped on friday with half the workforce being made redundant, while today beatport’s digital distribution company - baseware - is folding with immediate effect. the consequence of this is that all of the SPINNIN’ (and its sub labels like musical freedom) catalogue is no longer available to buy O.o
it’s hard to see how much longer the site can continue as going concern, unless new ownership can be found promptly, with the prospect of a remarkable collapse this summer set to rock the dance music community~
ouch!
at least this hopefully means all Spinnin' records will now go straight to Spotify instead of the usual release strategy of giving Beatport the exclusive for 2 weeks.
In other news, all the big dance news articles will belong in this new pinned thread
Yesterday in Las Vegas at the T-Mobile Arena was held the 2016 Billboard music award ceremony - one of the most prestigious music awards in the world.
Dance/Electronic music has 3 nominations: top artist, top song and top albums. Congratulations to the winners of this year!
Top dance/electronic artist - David Guetta
Top dance/electronic album - True Colors - Zedd
Top dance/electronic song - "Lean On" - Major Lazer & DJ Snake feat. MØ (HELL, YEAH MORE THAN BILLION VIEWS AND 5 MILLIONS LIKES ON YOUTUBE!!!)
My congratulations to all winers again!
No recognition for Avicii or Calvin Harris
Calvin Harris became Favorite EDM Artist in AMA 2015! I think it`s honorable too!
They said absolutely nothing alike.
'Sorry' isn't really dance music it is more pop...why is it in 'dance in the news'....I know Skrillex is a dance music producer, but Sorry isn't really a dance song imo.
Apprently David Bowie was talking about working with Skrillex before he passed away. I doubt he would have been prepared to work with someone who uncredited/ripped-off samples like this - so I am inclined to believe that he didn't as he demonstrated in this tweet: https://twitter.com/skrillex/status/736328422901714944
“Sorry” is Tropical House.
This is not the mid-00s UK Funky forum y'know?

The legendary DJ Fresh has formally announced his retirement from touring, citing multiple reasons including his health, and an industry that he believes to be “fake” and “soul destroying.” The British producer will finish out his remaining dates in 2016, before going on indefinite hiatus in January.
DJ Fresh got his start as part of pioneering drum ‘n’ bass act Bad Company, alongside Maldini, dBridge, and Vegas. In 2006, he released his acclaimed solo album, Escape From Planet Monday. In the years after, he’s continued pursuing his solo career, finding widespread commercial success with huge singles like “Gold Dust” (which Flux Pavilion iconically remixed), “Louder,” “Hot Right Now,” and “Earthquake” alongside Diplo.
It is unclear at this time if DJ Fresh will continue releasing music during his hiatus. Read his full statement below.

First it's Deorro, then Avicii, and now DJ Fresh There must be something wrong with the touring industry if these people are giving it up..
oh wait wait wait, how long ago Deorro did the same? Have I overslept something?
And again, what's wrong with music industry this time...
F**king cancer, hope Fresh is okay already. Anyway, his situation is way more reasonable than the others'.
AVICII’S “LEVELS” TURNS 5 YEARS OLD!
If you’ve never heard Avicii’s “Levels” at this point in time, I’m questioning what you’re doing reading this article. Perhaps one of the most iconic tracks in all of electronic music, “Levels” was first played in its final form in March 2011, during Avicii’s set at Ultra Music Festival. The track was officially released in October of that year, and made many fall in love with EDM. Its mainstream success allowed it to reach millions of people worldwide, opening up a gateway to a whole new community many had previously never been exposed to.
Progressive house was at a peak about 4ish years ago, with acts like Swedish House Mafia, Alesso, and, of course, Avicii, regularly gracing mainstage revelers with melodic, emotional sets. Big-room was still in its early stages of conception, with the occasional track like W&W’s “Thunder” making its way into the mix. However, it was in no way the main focus of the set, as melodic, progressive tracks like “Levels” made up the majority of these headlining spots. Artists realized its happy-go-lucky sounds were what people wanted to hear, and, as is the case with any ‘fad’ in music, many sought to replicate its vibes, shifting the path of electronic music towards progressive house.
However, the success and support that “Levels” received was not just limited to prog-house, as it broke through numerous barriers and spawned remixes from all across the dance music community, with Skrillex’s remix being one of the most notable. At least for me personally, it introduced me to the early sounds of dubstep, opening up a whole new genre that still finds ways to impress me to this day.
Love it or hate it, the influence that “Levels” had on the scene was unparalleled, and undoubtedly laid the foundations for the modern scene, paving the way for what it is today. Relive the classic track below!

hard to believe it's been five years since 'Levels' broke out and started to turn Avicii into the massive name he is. It's still one of my favourite tracks ever too!
SOURCE: http://www.youredm.com/2016/09/09/breaking-die-antwoord-shares-plans-disband-next-year/
DIE ANTWOORD REVEALS PLANS TO BREAK UP
Watkin Tudor Jones and Anri Du Toit are two of the biggest names in music, but you know them better as Ninja and Yolandi Vi$$er of Die Antwoord. Since their startling aesthetic and tongue-in-cheek productions began captivating minds in 2009, the endeavor was only envisioned to be a five album project, and they’re staying true to their original intent. Ninja and Yolandi have just announced that in September 2017, Die Antwoord is over.
“Die Antwoord dies on that day. It’s all over. I feel beautiful about it. I’m not scared of the end. I’m a Ninja. I’m not scared of death.”
Still, their planned disbandment isn’t going to stop at a couple blog posts documenting the event. No, Die Antwoord is planning a massive art exhibition in The Museum of Contemporary Modern Art Africa, no doubt including their long-time muse and collaborator Roger Ballen, which will coincide with a fifth studio album. They’re also going to release a movie depicting the odyssey of Die Antwoord from birth to death, but we wouldn’t expect anything less from these masters of all things high-concept. In fact, the movie South African Ninja has been in the making for the last 10 years, long before Die Antwoord was a thing.
“That’s been our well that we’ve been drinking from and drawing from since the beginning of Die Antwoord. We actually started writing it before Die Antwoord. So, it’s been in the background for all of our ideas, which have all come from this film. It’s a South African gangster film that has African ninjas in it. Everything in the film is fictitious, like a regular movie, but it’s hard and raw, and everything has some parallel to our lives, so it’s got a surreal connection to everything.”
However, the death of Die Antwoord doesn’t necessarily mean the death of Ninja, Yolandi, or even DJ Hi Tek (now known as God). These characters have become so ingrained in Jones and Du Toit, that it would make sense for each to continue down their own path with collaborations and solo work. But Watkin Tudor Jones isn’t one to dwell on a project, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see a new alias born from the death of Die Antwoord. (If you’re feeling frisky to learn more about the group’s history, this documentary is just what you need.)
Have a listen to “Fat Faded f*** Face,” Die Antwoord’s newest single before Mount Ninji and Da Nice Time Kid releases on September 16th.
Space Ibiza SHUTS
After 27 years and millions of dancers Space Ibiza is closing.
If you haven't heard of the club, you'll know much of the music it influenced and scores of superstar DJs from across the world turned out for one last momentous party.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-37559595
But now how are we going to show Avicii we're cool?
gutting, so many truly spellbindingly amazing memories <3 <3 <3 , it will be sorely missed
this summer has been the long goodbye ~ 27 years is a good run for any club... technically the club has just changed hands, so will reopen after a refurbishment, but it won’t be the same obvs
Disclosure have taken to social media today to announce a temporary hiatus from music they have reassured that they will be back but we'll have a wait on our hands!
Hopefully they can come back with a new/revival dance music genre type and get a big hit which will start a new dance trend (like they started the deep house trend with Latch).
Loved the F for You original from them especially, when it was released.
What??? Nooo.
I wanted new music from them this year.
Disclosure put an Instagram post up today confirming that they are about to start recording their third album. Looks like the hiatus is over *.*
I’M READY
now for twenty one pilots to come out of their hiatus
Looks like this recent deep/tech house revival in the UK is set to become bigger now Disclosure are back.

I remember hearing about this a while ago, what he did was completely unforgiveable, but, I am glad he's owning up to his shit, accepting it and embracing what's about to come to him. He has some f***ing balls, which is more than can be said for some people in his position. I can't help but feel sorry for him, but at the end of the day, it is his own fault. It's a real shame, he had some talent and was really beginning to gain some traction.
Hardwell has quit touring.
Good for him tbh, hope he uses this break for good and comes back stronger than ever
His set at Mysteryland recent was rammed they had to close the stage showing how much of an impact he has! I can tell that news is going to disappoint many but it's completely understandable where he's coming from.
From DJ Mag:
for quite a while now he's been somewhat of a controversial figure on twitter and acting like a dick, so this is probably the best move for him at the moment, especially if he has mental health issues of his own too.
hopefully he can come back big as ever when he's ready, as he makes terrific music. his release from a few months ago 'Monophobia' is outstanding so he's still got it in that department.
Yeah he’s been really problematic lately so I hope he can sort himself out somewhat and come back with a bang
Still waiting for this deadmau5/REZZ collab thk
Wasn't sure where to put this, but CamelPhat have confirmed over on social media that they're remixing some big dance tracks:
Layo & Bushwacka - Love Story
The Chemical Brothers - Hey Boy Hey Girl
Dirty Vegas - Days Go By
Oh wow! If their remix of I’m Not Alone is anything to go by I’m hyped!
Hey Boy Hey Girl particularly would sound amazing with CamelPhat production!!
(maybe we could have a CamelPhat general discussion thread?)

Oh man that’s not good news for Marshmello/Dan Smith as that is literally the same sample eeek
And as it turns out, the Arty remix rips off another track by Culture Code !!
edit: https://www.instagram.com/p/BxKkKUchINC/?utm_source=ig_share_sheet&igshid=1qm5j14orus58
LMAO the plot thickens. Arty doesn’t have a leg to stand on then.
tbh culture code has a point. none of these really count as “rip-offs” per se, they’re literally the same four notes anyway and most DJs will come out and say the same thing.
will this be career ending? probably not, but then again there’s robin thicke
Sadly the news has broken this evening that Erick Morillo has died aged 49. Such a shame, I know he was in the news recently for the wrong reasons but it’s awful to hear he’s passed away.
He’s of course most well known for being a part of Real 2 Reel who released I Like to Move It and supporting Alexandra Burke in bringing the cultural reference ‘elephant in the room’ to the UK for the first time x
Dubstep producer Cookie Monsta has passed away definitely one of the pioneers of the genre.
I hope this thread isn’t just for obituaries, I wanted to share that BuzzJack’s loved dance vocalist Becky Hill is in hospital undergoing vocal surgery. She says she has prepared a single beforehand due to release in February.
Pierce Fulton, 28, passed away on Thursday, 27.04.2021, due to "a tragic struggle with mental health".
god why
Sad to read news of yet another dance producer losing their battle with mental health so young.
He was perhaps best known for collabing with Martin Garrix & Mike Shinonda
Although my fave of his was the 2014 single 'Kuaga' (which later got a vocal mix which isn't quite as good)
Sadly didn't hear any of his work besides those two.
RIP Waiting For Tomorrow, his track with Martin Garrix and Mike Shinoda from Linkin Park posted above, was a #1 on my personal chart in 2018 and Kuaga was decent (without the vocals) too.
Paul Johnson, Chicago DJ most famous for 90s house classic Get Get Down, has died at the age of 50 from Covid.
DJ mag have done a long article about his legacy here

Ian Carey, best known for 2009 hit Get Shaky, has died at the age of 46. No cause of death revealed.
Oh that's sad
Get Shaky will forever be an anthem. Used to love hearing it on Floorfillers on Radio 1
Syrian singer / electronic musician and one time Eledan BJSC entrant Omar Souleyman has been arrested in Turkey for… terrorism
https://djmag.com/news/omar-souleyman-arrested-turkey-terrorism-charges?fbclid=IwAR0l_SdbGdOLPAuEq-1O54JobZOSrQqLe7dCPJA8OAHWlPJXtUbzK9r1GAk
Omar Souleyman, the Syrian singer famous for his fusion of traditional dabke music with electronic beats, has been arrested on terrorism charges, The Guardian reports.
The artist, whose real name is Omar Almasikh, was arrested by local authorities during a raid of his home in the south eastern Turkish city of Urfa, near the Syrian border.
Souleyman’s manager confirmed the reason for his arrest this to AFP, stating that the artist was being questioned over alleged involvement with the PKK, or Kurdistan Workers' Party, who are proscribed as a terrorist organisation by Ankara, the US, UK and EU.
According to the Guardian, Souleyman’s son has denied the terrorism charges made against his father, stating that he has no political affiliations and that a “malicious report” had been filed against him.
At the time of writing, Souleyman has reportedly not yet returned home, though his manager has reportedly said that he expects him to be released later today (17th November).
The 55-year-old artist, who has toured the world and worked with artists including Four Tet, Gorillaz’ Damon Albarn, Diplo, Björk and Gilles Peterson, reportedly underwent a health check at a local hospital before being taken by authorities for further questioning.
Souleyman left Syria along with millions of others in the midst of the country’s civil war. His music became an international sensation, and he has performed at festivals including Glastonbury and Pitchfork Music Festival. Listen to his hit ‘Warni Warni’ below
Dimension has brought about the first case of Omicron to New Zealand but for now hasn’t faced prosecution.
He had broke quarantine rules and then later tested positive.
Big shame as he was my favourite DnB producer but yeah this is indefensible. :/
https://djmag.com/news/british-dj-avoids-prosecution-following-new-zealand-omicron-scare?fbclid=IwAR3VA9cCcjh2KsA4pSth3f2v-VQNUwipokfMjmwkTtXXmBj-ih2_SFvVLyI
Reading the story though, he did quarantine and tested positive on day 12 having been negative on day 9. I don't think he should become some sort of pariah because of this; it happens and if it wasn't him we wouldn't have heard about it. 12 days after arriving in NZ suggests he's caught from someone there anyway no?
Nice to share some good news for a change… Becky is engaged!
That's great news. Congrats to the both of them!
Hardwell is officially back after a 3,5-year hiatus.
I went to such an effort in 2018 to see him live at Mysteryland because he spoke about that being it and he was done with touring. I'm glad he's going to continue
Ferry Corsten Was Inducted Into The Order Of Oranje-Nassau By The Dutch Royal Family
https://edmmaniac.com/ferry-corsten-was-inducted-into-the-order-of-oranje-nassau-by-the-dutch-royal-family/
Famed Dutch Trance DJ Ferry Corsten has been given one of the Dutch Royal Family’s highest honors: The Order Of Oranje-Nassau. Similar to being knighted by the British Royal Family, those in The Order Of Oranje-Nassau have made significant cultural contributions to their country and beyond.
Corsten is the third Dutch DJ to receive the honor followed by Armin Van Buuren in 2011 and Tiësto in 2003. Peter Oskam, the mayor of Capelle aan den IJssel, led a surprise ceremony in the city on behalf of King Willem-Alexander.
“I can’t put into words how much of an honour being presented with this award is for me. As a passionately proud Dutch native and as an artist who has just wanted to share all the beautiful sides of dance music with the world since day one. To be recognised by the Dutch Royal family means so much. Thank you,” said Corsten when accepting the award on stage.
Next month, Corsten will embark on his “What The F” tour that will see him play music spanning his entire career. Now those shows are sure to be extra special as he celebrates this incredible honor with dance floors all over the world.
well deserved for Ferry being a proper legend of trance music.
Interesting story in the EDM Twitter scene (which is mostly filled up by dubstep, trap, and future bass producers) as Getter claimed that Excision ripped off a lot of songs and used ghost producers.
Some DJ drama from Friday night at Ministry of Sound after GORDO (aka Carnage) refused to finish his DJ set meaning both Waze and ESSEL couldn't play. Imagine being that entitled eh?
This is the guy that Drake went to for help with making his house album. Lol.
Crickey I even charted TARAKA from him last year
The same Carnage who almost did the same thing to deadmau5 in 2017.
Gordo has now issued an ""apology""
what an absolute d!ck
in other sad news, Scottish house DJ Jamie Roy has died aged 33.
wasn’t familiar with him myself but he seems to have made a big impact with many British house DJs posting their tributes.
What??? I'm so shocked that's awful. Organ Belta is definitely a highlight of his
American producer ILLENIUM is being called out by a small part of EDM Twitter for saying the N-word...in 2015:
Drummer Pat Lundy has left Modestep, making Josh Friend the last man on the band.
Sven Holger Greiner, known as DJ SHOG (#40 in 2002 with "This Is My Sound"), dies at the age 46.
Not often we get such an announcement in EDM (for sadly obvious reasons) but DJ/producer Alison Wonderland has revealed she is pregnant!
Timmy Trumpet's former 'co-producer' JEBU exposed that neither Timmy nor his manager paid his travel during world tour: 👀
Hardstyle duo Sound Rush, best known for their BJSC entry with Headhunterz, are leaving Heady's imprint Art Of Creation.
Gutted to hear this news when you started following them from their early AOC releases. Wishing the best for the twins.
Controversial statement about Coachella was thrown by Diplo:
OLAN and her complaint on Above & Beyond at Twitter:
yikes that’s not a good look on her to trash on the record label owners that have given her much support
pretty sure A&B do write their own songs too
I assume she's referring to her Under Pressure remix with Andrew Bayer? Her release is in her Top Songs, as is the A&B release from their radio show. Their version has attracted marginally more streams than the official release which is why it's in her top songs. Considering the track has been released on Anjunabeats which is A&B's actual label you'd think she'd be a bit more grateful than dragging them through the dirt here. Calling their radio show 'stupid' is a stupid move in itself considering A&B are responsible for its release in the first place. I can see what she means that she'd like to personalise her Spotify list but take that up with them/the label offline don't put it in a public space as it just screams the wrong message.
London DJ Michael Bibi has been diagnosed with Lymphoma, a rare cancer brain.
Wishing him a full recovery.
Oh gosh that's awful to read. I hope his treatment goes as smoothly as possible
that's a big shame, that seems like a really bad cancer. he's still young so hopefully he can make a full recovery anyhow
Ugh, can all these negative news be stopped?
Grammy-nominated producer Paul Oakenfold is alleged for doing a sexual harassment to his former personal assistant. He then releases a statement following his accusations.

I hope everyone at Beyond Wonderland are fine.
the day of cancellation for Diplo may finally be upon us soon as these new accusations have just come out...
he's been involved in a few similar controversies in recent years so it's likely he's at the very least been a bit of a pest but he's yet to be convicted of anything yet to my knowledge
The allegations didn't seem to stick / result in any real consequences the last time (ngl I kind of forgot about it myself, I very rarely see it being brought up...) so I'm not sure they will this time either especially if it's coming from the same accuser.
Former Indonesian mainstage DJ Angger Dimas, known for his Phat Brahms remake with Steve Aoki, announced the death of his 6-year old son Dante caused by drowning. Dimas is now looking for justice due to the innatural cause of death as the local police are restricting the CCTV near the crime scene.
This is pretty the same case as Italian hardstyle DJ Daniele Mondello, who are still looking for the truth of his wife (DJ Express Viviana) and his son's death in 2020, except Viviana was convicted of her son's murderer, then commited suicide.
Swedish hardstyle producer/DJ Pontuz Bergman a.k.a. Wasted Penguinz shocked the fans by bringing his former duo partner Jon Brandt-Cederhäll to one of the hardstyle artist's show in the Netherlands. FYI, Jon left the duo in 2020 due to his tiredness in touring and producing music.
Apparently, a thunderstorm appears in Miami, so the show ends after SLANDER's set, meaning that Hardwell, Amelie Lens, and Under Construction (FISHER x Chris Lake) sets are canceled today. No informations yet regarding their re-schedules.
