BuzzJack Music Forum _ Little Mix _ 'Black Magic' • 1st single

Posted by: Jonjo 26th September 2014, 02:49 PM

So we're coming to that time of the year where we are about to get some news on the first single from the next album.

What would you guys like to hear from them? Something like 'Move' again? A pretty risky single choice but ultimately pays off, or something a little more predictable/safe, but still strong like 'Wings'? Or would you like to hear them continue with the "military" style of 'Salute'?

Discuss all news/rumours about the LEAD single in here. Everything else to do with album 3 can stay in http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=164775 topic. Thank you! biggrin.gif

I think I preferred Wings. Move is a good track but the styling of themselves for DNA as a whole era was something I preferred.

Posted by: Mike Sugafan 26th September 2014, 05:19 PM

I'd like to hear some big mid-tempo song like Change Your Life or the one with darker melodies like DNA / You Got The Love

Posted by: Electro Paradise 27th September 2014, 12:43 PM

Move is my favourite single from them, so I'd prefer that over any other single they've had, but I hope the new single paves a new path and not copy of an old style but is generally a progression of the Salute era sound rather than a completely different direction.

I want uptempo though that is for sure. I would maybe settle for a mid, but certainly not a ballad. Actually I wouldn't mind if they skipped a ballad completely as a single for this era, they have stunning ones, but single wise they don't get it right.

I'm just super excited for this era, my expectations are way too high though.

Posted by: colinn 30th September 2014, 12:43 AM

No 'Little Me'/'Change Your Life' as singles please. I'm over them now.

Posted by: April 30th September 2014, 10:05 AM

Something like "DNA". That's still my favourite LM single by far!

Posted by: Sean. 4th October 2014, 04:15 PM

Move got it's first airplay six weeks before and if this follows a similar pattern it means we might hear is next week, or the week after. What does everyone think?

Posted by: Electro Paradise 4th October 2014, 04:19 PM

^ Going by their new fan club app, they haven't chosen the single yet and are still writing for the album. I'm starting to worry we won't get the album this year.

Posted by: Rabbit Heart 4th October 2014, 04:23 PM

I don't think the album will be coming this year as something would have been announced by now I feel. They'll probably still be a single though.

Posted by: JONES 5th October 2014, 07:20 PM

I think the album is coming in December... I don't think syco would release it at the lowest selling point in the year

Posted by: JesyMix 13th December 2014, 11:42 PM

New member here hi.gif

I'm hoping the new single premieres in January through February or even March looks more realistic. They're working with some great people this time around so I'm excited to hear what they bring to the table.

Hi JesyMix and welcome to the Little Mix forum (and Buzzjack too ofc tongue.gif). This place will be a lot more active very soon, especially on my behalf! Just need to find time, now that I have a working laptop again biggrin.gif

I prefer the first single like Move all the ways. biggrin.gif Such a great tune.

I am surprised they didnt have a single out.

Posted by: Timmy TheSnowman 16th December 2014, 02:06 PM

It's apparantly called Grown?

Posted by: cassius__ 19th December 2014, 04:39 PM

I'd be happy with an album of 'Move' and 'Stand Down' wub.gif

Posted by: Sean. 20th December 2014, 01:22 PM

Haven't watched that video but isn't it the track they worked on with Jess Glynne?

Posted by: JesyMix 14th March 2015, 07:30 PM

They revealed on the Brits red carpet that they've chosen the lead single. They say it's a "whole new sound" for them. They later revealed that their album is 80s influenced.

Songwriter Camille Purcell (Boy, Nothing Feels Like You, Good Enough + The Saturdays, Ella Henderson) fav'd & RT'd some tweets about LM's lead single so I'm assuming that she co-wrote it.

I'm heavily intrigued by the title, definitely a stand out name for a single in comparison to their previous.

Really? I can't see them going back to that pop-ish. I can see them continuing down the R&B route that 'Salute' started but with even more interesting and unusual production.

I am hoping for experimental Little Mix anyway.

Posted by: TaraEllaFan1 20th April 2015, 07:56 PM

I hope they continue the DC-esque music. So far that's been their best, and I might be able to get behind them for good if they follow that path.

They better make it good if it's based on something. I find with most of their videos so far it's just them dancing in a warehouse, they could EASILY shake it up a bit and make it different.

Yeah I agree. I do love the 'Salute' video, but the song would've been better served by an outdoor video with some semblance of an actual storyline.

I'm assuming they'll be portraying geeks at the start of the video? Because that's the only way I'll excuse Perrie's horrendous outfit. I'm kind of failing to see how this fits into the whole 'The Craft' motif...

Not at all what I expected - so pop! But it sounds like it could be a total earworm, which is what they need if they're going to get radio on board with their new era.

So much for them doing something unexpected or very different. nocheer.gif It seems like they have taken a step back and went back to the sound of DNA. In a way, I understand they want to play it safe since it's a first single, but they seem like the kind of group that can actually take a risk now. They have had two successful eras, it seemed like the appropriate moment. Now I'm afraid the album won't sound cohesive between their "different" material and this pop mess.

Shame. sad.gif

I was excited about them doing something similar to 'The Craft' (cheer.gif ), but I think the track feels way too upbeat and cute for that of ambiance in a video. I guess it will still follow a similar pattern in which four awkward high school girls get together, practice magic and I suppose they'll be popular by the end of the video? It's not exactly what I had in mind at first...

Shame, again.

So you've based this "pop mess" on a 6 second audio clip?! I'm glad you haven't jumped to conclusions too quickly...

And also, 'Move' was a big risk that really payed off for them, so it's not like they haven't taken risks before. I don't blame them if they're playing it safe with this one. They really need to make sure they have a song that the general public and radio can get on board with.

Posted by: barbaric_dan 24th April 2015, 08:44 AM

DNA remains their best single, besides Move though?

Posted by: Robot 24th April 2015, 01:40 PM

Damn, missed hearing all the previews before they got taken down but I can't WAIT for this. Been too long wub.gif

(realistically it hasn't, it just feels like it)

Posted by: Davidson 25th April 2015, 04:13 PM

Obviously the clip is so short and low quality so we can't say we can take much from it but it would seem as though it is poppier and definitely closer to the sound of the first album. For me, the decision to (possibly) go back to the cheesy pop stuff would be one of the strangest career moves ever. They set up themselves up with the 'Salute' era as a potentially great R&B girlband and that album felt like it only scratched the surface of what they were capable of if they continued to develop this more mature and overall far more well-rounded sound. To set yourself up in such good stead to get away from just a purely teenage fanbase, and to do so with mass critical acclaim and also commercial success, with the strength of the new sound making the sophomore slump relatively painless, made it seem like they had the potential to really take their career in a new direction and become a girlband who could really last over time. A return to the pure pop sound of their first era would be entirely foolish and a real artistic misstep. Got to just hope that the snippet is misleading of the sound they are going with this era.

Posted by: Sean. 25th April 2015, 05:59 PM

Perhaps the album is going to be a product of both album one and two, with the lead being more associated with one?

Hmm I suppose we don't know yet and we will just have to wait and see but even if that were the case it would still be a very strange choice. That wouldn't exactly show progression would it?

Only for the first era that was - I don't think they even playlisted 'DNA' - but they actually heavily supported 'Little Me' and 'Salute' (they snubbed 'Word Up', but then again, most stations did). I'm glad Capital are so keen, but I have a suspicion that Radio 1 won't be on board - or if they are, it won't progress past the B-list (see Carly Rae Jepson/Kelly Clarkson).

Black Magic >>>> Wings > Move

Posted by: Jonjo 20th May 2015, 11:53 AM

Sonically, it's not what I wanted from them. I wanted them to improve on their 'Salute' sound and stick with that. However, as a pop song, it's SO GOOD. Really loving it. wub.gif

Posted by: Rabbit Froot 20th May 2015, 12:23 PM

Yeh, disapointing really, I was hoping they would continue the 'Salute' sound but I guess Fifth Harmony have taken over their R&B sound in Simon Cowell's eyes. It lacks identity for me, it could be sung by anyone. sad.gif

Posted by: Regina 20th May 2015, 12:43 PM

Parts of it I love, but others, I feel a bit "eh". Not bad though, more of the chanty bits woulda been nice.

Posted by: Ryan. 20th May 2015, 02:04 PM

Posted by: *Tim 20th May 2015, 02:19 PM

Very underwhelming after the bops Salute produced...

Posted by: Noahspike 20th May 2015, 02:20 PM

Definitely a strong, catchy pop song but I agree with others that it lacks identity and seems too 'young' for them at this stage, especially after the more interesting and inspired stuff on 'Salute'. I really like the verses but the chorus is way too cheesy.

Posted by: PaO_o 20th May 2015, 02:40 PM

It's completely different to the previous singles by them. But it's definitely a summer song. I really like a jam of this song.

Posted by: mr_aly 20th May 2015, 03:26 PM

It's very poppy for them, I'm getting 'Disco Love' vibes from this!

It's a strong song though, intrigued to see how they do after leaving it quite a while.

*edit - also after one listen parts of the chorus are making me think of the "you don't have the right to tell me" part of 'Mr. Know It All'.

Posted by: Acoustic 20th May 2015, 04:04 PM

Slight step back for me.

The chorus is good and it's catchy, it's very pop though. I enjoyed the last albums 90s R&B influence, I'm hoping the album will have more of the sound from Salute.

Posted by: THEO. 20th May 2015, 04:42 PM

This is so cheesy and absolutely NOT the kind of music that they should be making four years into their career but I can't help but love it 😬 Hopefully the album is made of stronger material but I'll take this for now as they've not released anything for 15(?) months.

Posted by: Totto 20th May 2015, 04:52 PM

The verses are ok, but the chorus too cheesy.

It sounds like a album track I'd rather avoid. Not a fan.

Posted by: Robot 20th May 2015, 04:55 PM

I LOVE THIS. It's so cute! I don't think it's actually a regression as such, it feels very 80s which I wouldn't say the first album sounded like, it's just a different variation of pop. It's kinda going along a Carly Rae Jepsen kinda line and I'm really loving it, undeniably so catchy. I can see the Disco Love comparison actually, but I do prefer it to that.

Posted by: J▼hnkm 20th May 2015, 04:55 PM

OH THANK GOD

I can finally hop back on board the Little Mix train after being resolutely nonplussed by basically the entirety of 'Salute'. HUGE chorus, overwhelming sense of joy and just generally a super catchy, fun pop song.

Posted by: J▲hq 20th May 2015, 05:04 PM

Not as good as 'Move' but I prefer it to the rest of the singles from the previous era. So catchy and only going to be a bigger jam on repeated listens.

You are a star.

Amazing song, as expected. They keep pulling it out of the bag. I, like others, expected a progression of the sound on Salute (which was PERFECT for them, imo) but this is hardly a massive change in direction.

Posted by: HausofKubrick 20th May 2015, 05:44 PM

This is really good and not as cheesy as some of you are making out. Still packs some punch especially in the verses and the chorus is SO catchy.

Basically all of this.

Took me a very long time to properly appreciate (just some of) 'Salute', but I'm instantly loving this and hopefully the rest of the album is as great as this! wub.gif

This is amazing! Completely sold on first listen. Yeah I'd love another Move but this is still amazing and very instant. I hope it can be a big hit for them.

Posted by: Liаm 20th May 2015, 06:45 PM

I think this is a really good progression actually. People see it as a regression but I think that, whilst it's poppy like their debut album it maintains a bit of a funky feel like Move for example. It's a good mix and I hope it's indicative of the whole album <3

Posted by: Davidson 20th May 2015, 07:31 PM

Does this remind anyone else of 'Want You To Want Me' by Jason Derulo?

It is a good pop song but so far from what I want from them. If this had been the lead for the second album I would have been all over it but I feel like their second album showed the massive potential they had in the R&B route and therefore I can't help but find this massively disappointing. I am sure I will really enjoy it in a very much flash in the pan hit way, but can't see it helping them gain a lasting career or any band identity.

Posted by: Jay ジ 20th May 2015, 07:31 PM

I really like this! wub.gif Love the 80s vibe.

I wouldn't say it's a regression, but maybe a diversion... we'll have to wait and see re: their third album sound and find out if they've stepped away from the r'n'b present on Salute, or not.

Posted by: Robot 20th May 2015, 07:42 PM

They've already said a lot of the album is 80s influenced so I can see plenty in this vein, but I really wouldn't complain. Sure, the route they were going was great and more credible for from my perspective, if they're going to produce stuff like this then I'm perfectly happy for them not to be "credible" but it's just great, fun pop done very well.

Exactly. They're hardly ever going to be considered credible anyway, with their manufactured X-Factor roots. And while 'Salute' was great progression from 'DNA' musically, it was a step back commercially, so I'm all game for them switching back to a more pop-orientated sound, especially if it helps them gain a bit more success internationally.

It's very poppy for them, I'm getting 'Disco Love' vibes from this!

I thought of Disco Love immediately, too.

Glad most of you are on board with this. I liked that they went with an RandB vibe but it never took them to 10/10 from me. This is the kind of perfection I expected when I voted for them 200 times on X Factor.

I don't think it's a regression, these kinds of simple, well produced, pop songs seem to be doing well lately - Heartbeat Song, I Really Like You etc... Even if it is cheesy, that doesn't really bother me, as long as it's good...

Posted by: Rabbit Froot 20th May 2015, 08:57 PM

It's not that it's a regression for me, it's just that it literally lacks identity. It could be sang from any random flopstar to someone like Rita Ora which is it a bit strange considering this is from a third album and they had been going on a natural progression up to this point.

Posted by: Sean. 20th May 2015, 09:08 PM

It's better than I thought it'd be but glad they've combined the sound of DNA/Salute together almost!

Posted by: OutstandingMixer 20th May 2015, 09:20 PM

I absolutely love this! wub.gif It's a great catchy pop song, it just feels so effortless. The vocals are fantastic of course. This is going to be MASSIVE!

Posted by: missingyou 20th May 2015, 09:30 PM

I was intrigued by their big come back, especially after Simon tweeted that its the best single yet. I'm not a fan, but can appreciate them after being a massive Spice Girls, GA and Sats fan.

Have to say this is not that strong, its very poppy and happy but its not very... Little Mix? If The Sats released this, it wouldn't be out of place, but I thought LM was edgy? This is like a mix of Disco Love and a Katy Perry song. Not very original. Saying that, maybe this will bode well for them and reach more? Who knows! Its a no from me, but as long as the fans enjoy it, thats all that matters smile.gif

I will say this, although this is new and fresh right now, I don't exactly see this going on to be a career defining single for them. (Not that it has to be). It's a great little pop song but it's definitely not a distinctive one. I think it'll be a "here and now" song, enjoyable for the time being but not a long lasting love. We shall see!

Posted by: LeeWallace 20th May 2015, 10:53 PM

It's nice.

It's nothing special and their fanbase alone will get it tip 10 but it's such a step down from previous material, low sales should help it get top 5 but it will drop 'faster than the speed of light' crazy how i miss you, i'm hurting deep inside .

Posted by: Iz~ 20th May 2015, 11:05 PM

Lovely little pop song, but it does feel like a step backwards after the last album, and that this will be the beginning of their decline. Perhaps. Pure pop could always use another flagbearer, but I doubt it'll be this for very long. I'm not getting very excited about this while I was after Move hit me.

Posted by: Ryan. 21st May 2015, 02:20 AM

Finally listened to this in full, it is a fantastic pop song. I still stick by my initial opinion that it seems they've got back to a more 'DNA' type sound, but with a bit of a twist but that's no problem when the song is as good as this.

However, it doesn't scream #1 hit to me but top 5 should be certain considering they've already got Capital on board for the radio premiere tomorrow.

Posted by: Jonjo 21st May 2015, 02:42 AM

I think "regression" is the wrong word to use for this. It's definitely more 'DNA'-pop than 'Salute'-pop, but I'd definitely say it's a step forward and more of a progession in the pop sound that they used for the first era. As I've said before, it'd have been nice to have seen them stick to the less predictable sound of the 2nd album, but if this is the standard of pop that they're going to give us (and I'm sure this is just to help them breakthrough even more in the US) then I'm all for it wub.gif It reminds me of 'Want U Back' by Cher Lloyd!

I swear people said the exact same about 'Move', and it stuck around for 12 weeks. Their longevity has always been pretty impressive, especially compared to the likes of The Vamps/The Saturdays/Neon Jungle etc.

Yes! It's like Want You To Want Me meets Stereo Soldier.

The single is 34 on the iTunes single chart on pre-orders alone. I'd have said that's a good sign?

Glad to see they still have a pretty big fanbase which should hopefully serve them another pretty successful era. I don't see them ever being huge whatever they release, there just isn't a big demand for them or girlbands at the moment but I can see them being consistently appreciated and popular for some time.

The pre-order for this is doing astonishingly well considering it's not out for ages. The initial fan-buys will have died down now, so it looks like the little airplay it's getting is actually generating proper interest. I don't want to jinx it, but #159 5/6 weeks before release would usually say number 1 to me.

Posted by: Robot 28th May 2015, 02:49 PM

It's doing incredibly well, I'm so shocked! Usually pre-orders with fanbases have quite a 'Pretty Girls' run, go top 40 and then slump back to about #500/600 until closer to the release date. That's what I expected, but instead it's sitting at #132 now with so many weeks to go and it's reminding me more of how 'I Will Never Let You Down' did on pre-orders.

I hadn't really thought they were capable of getting another #1 until now where I'm starting to think MAYBE just maybe it could happen. I won't get my hopes up too much but this is very promising.

Well its pre-order would suggest otherwise - it's definitely reaching beyond the core fanbase given that it didn't plummet after the first few days. I know it's a cliche, but it's certainly a grower. Maybe not to the same extent as 'Move', but I have noticed a lot of people doing a total 180 on it.

I LOVE THAT. So great to see them doing something not even just a bit away from their usual "dancing in a warehouse" style, but a total different but superb direction. It really brings out the fun in their personalities that make them such a likeable band in the first place.

Everything about this is spot on so far. They waited too long for the video of Move and it took ages for momentum to build (it seemingly only actually became popular once it hit the charts) but the timing has been great for this and I think the change in direction works so well for them.

It's such a step down from 'Salute' and it just feels weird to say R&B is their sound and for them to return to pop. I guess it was more Simon's choice rather than the girls as I doubt he would want two girlbands on his label releasing the same genre.

If I was Simon I would release 'Black Magic' on Sunday and book them a BGT performance, it's doing incredibly well on Pre-orders and I'm sure it could still manage #01 if it had a BGT performance behind it.

Hopefully! Avicii's pre-order hasn't performed as well despite more airplay, so that's got to be promising. Plus there's the fact that it's a bit of a shitty song (+ video). 'Black Magic' needs to be put on Spotify ASAP though.

I actually wouldn't be adverse to them pushing it forward a week now. The only real potential contender then is 'Shine', and it has absolutely no hype at the moment.

Posted by: Jonjo 10th June 2015, 01:52 PM

I really don't think they need to bring the release date forward. I think nowadays, if there's a huge demand for a song and it gets so high on pre-orders well after the initial hype, then I think this is where releasing it to streaming early could benefit it and be more effective! Release it for streaming instead of releasing it a week or two earlier I think!

Posted by: April 10th June 2015, 04:37 PM

Black Magic would get #1 if it were released this Sunday. I hate when labels unnecessarily hold back singles when they look ready to be #1 weeks in advance.

Posted by: Joe. 10th June 2015, 05:46 PM

Seeing as Jason Derulo only sold 75k last week, and Little Mix are only a little bit lower than Carly Rae Jepsen was before going onto sell 85k (Yes, her pre-order had been up longer, but she peaked nowhere near as high as #23), it's very possible they would go to straight to #1 next week, if not, then certainly the week after.

I'm so pleased with how this is performing in pre-orders so far. How likely is R1 to playlist this next week?

Posted by: Iz~ 11th June 2015, 12:09 PM

I am on the verge of getting obsessed with this song and video now. Very very lovely stuff on both fronts, it's really very much what they should be doing, and I was initially disappointed after expecting some next-level left-field to follow Salute. That wouldn't be doing so well on pre-orders, and I'm glad it's looking like a massive hit for them, would be a very pleasant #1. Because despite the 'Black Magic' dress-up, it's really very 'white, wholesome magic' in its presentation. And I don't mind that, Little Mix do light pop very well.

This better be Number One. The thought of that Avicii track beating this isn't a nice one.

This is Radio 1's track of the day today, so I'm guessing it'll get playlisted tomorrow

Still as high as 66 on iTunes. I can't believe how massive this is going to be for them. With Girlbands fizzeling out all over the world, for the UK especially, Little Mix was all we had. Though they had a perfectly succesfful campaign with Salute, there were signs that they could soon start to fade. But it looks like they've come back stronger than ever. This could possibly spend weeks at #1

Posted by: Jonjo 16th June 2015, 01:40 PM

I really hope so! I can see it being huge/sticking around for a while! It seems to be what the general public want from them and I'm pleased to see it actually pay off for them.

Posted by: AdamAloud 16th June 2015, 01:43 PM

It would be fantastic if this could spend longer than a week at number 1. When was the last time that happened for a girlband? Sugababes and 'About You Now' back in 2007?

That one would definitely be better than the original. However, the lyrics are so self centres and the vocals are a bit off for me.

Fingers crossed for Little Mix in the USA, I've seen it's been lingering close to the top 200 without any airplay or promotion at all, so hopefully that's a sign it can do something when it starts to get some.

It's hanging around incredibly well and they seem to have decent promo lined up.

I think generally speaking TV performances do tend to lack energy compared to a stadium/arena type performance. I suppose X Factor and Strictly are the exceptions as they have bigger stages, but the average TV studio is fairly small.

The remix EP counts as 1 sale. The only time each sale would be individual is if you was to purchase them all separately, but that would cost you more (99p per track as opposed to £1.99 or whatever for the bundle) so it makes sense tbh.

Hope that helps biggrin.gif

They're very different tracks, going back to Move for a second. It's an incredible track but definitely as commercial and immediate for the charts as Black Magic is, so it's not surprising that this is doing better even if I wish Move could've been a #1 myself.

'Black Magic' has held up incredibly well in the United States, it's not dropped out of the top 300 on iTunes and is now #147 with no radio airplay or promotion. I think this will be their biggest US Hit and will at least manage to peak within the top 50.

I'm not sure if I can see 'Black Magic' peaking at #12 and selling over 2 million. I really hope it can do that well of course, but I'll be quite happy if they can get a Top 40 hit.

Posted by: Joe. 12th July 2015, 10:15 AM

I wonder if Black Magic will be close to touching 100k on Monday's midweeks. The way the chart is now means that the first midweeks will have much higher sales by combining the pre-orders with the weekend effect/streaming. (Though if Spotify data is missing this won't happen)

And the video, they steal someone´s average lookin Twilight werewolf wannabe boyfriend? Ummm ok.

The Spice Girls coulda released this back in the 90s and it would still have been the cheesiest thing goin.

This is such a Spice Girls 90s-wannabe pastiche track.

It's not amazing after the seemingly huge pre-orders, but I'd never imagine it'd even get close to 100k when it originally premiered, so I'm chuffed. Plus, there's streaming data missing, so I imagine that will add another ~10k to its total by the end of the week (assuming it performs as well as Tinie Tempah/Jason Derulo on Spotify etc).

Could someone fill me in on how 'Black Magic's US success so far compares to their previous US singles? I haven't really followed their US chart success until now but I can definitely see 'Black Magic' becoming their breakout hit in America.

I think Wings charted at like 97 or something, but that's it

Black Magic is now the 4th single by a girlgroup with most weeks in the top 100.
1. Pussycat Dolls - Don't Cha (52 weeks)
2. Sugababes - Abot You Now (40 weeks)
3. The Saturdays - Up (36 weeks)
4. Little Mix - Black Magic (32 weeks)

As much as I love my sats, I see them being pushed down into 4th. I think BM, with the Brits performance will at least get 38 weeks top 100, could even get more than 40, depending if it gets a really big sales boost and goes back into the top 40, which it might

I think 50 weeks is a bit optimistic tbh. It would be great to see BM performed on BGT though biggrin.gif

Posted by: Matt1989 19th April 2016, 06:12 AM

It may be optimistic but every time we think it's gonna fall it seems to rise again, so you never know

Posted by: pippa 19th April 2016, 09:59 AM

A few more chart weeks would be wonderful to add to their top 100 run. While this would be nice i find it wonderful that a girl group manage to have their biggest hit in the 3rd era of their career. Black Magic is now their biggest selling single which is amazing. By enlarge girl and boyband groups start suffering a decline in sales and smaller hits at this point of their career with many splitting after a 3rd album release. Little Mix thankfully have shown no signs of splitting and their success just continues to improve.

Posted by: Jonjo 19th April 2016, 11:28 AM

Their rise in popularity is so unique for an X Factor winner/act in general. All other acts seem to peak fairly early, but with our girls not only has their material been getting stronger, but their performances have improved tenfold! It helps that they're really likeable and warm/polite human beings and just seem to be revelling in all the success and taking none of it for granted. wub.gif

Posted by: MrLoverboy 19th April 2016, 11:32 AM

And I don't even think BM is their peak. After it's success, I can see them getting a even bigger song and hopefully it sells even better than BM.

In hindsight I think I still prefer Move but Black Magic is easily still my second fave up until then. Love Me Like You has since overtaken and Hair could overtake it too, but still. It's such an instant pop masterpiece.

How do you know the total streams though? It just seems like a lot of guesswork to me.

Kworb only has Spotify streams. It doesn't have streams from other streaming services.

Video is about to become their first to hit a billion views

It’s reached 1 billion views!
Great feat. The song did really well. I can’t believe it’s 8 years since it was released.

Finally!
Happy for them.
Wish it was another song with that popularity though. Black Magic is so teen pop, and so Little Mix will always be seen as a teen pop act by the general public, even though they have songs Woman Like Me, Sweet Melody, Move, Confetti, etc.

I'm not really sure I'd consider 'Woman Like Me' a better representation of them than 'Black Magic'.

The song is an iconic classic and still beloved today, but they have many well-known songs so it's not as if they'll be exclusively regarded as a teen pop act just because one song was the first to achieve a billion views on YouTube.
