.png) As this had a brief stint on iTunes recently in the 400's region #itunesgoals, I've decided to give a rate of it a go! As we know it was the fifth album release which was the 1st October 2007. It was the first studio album to feature Amelle Barrabah and was the second consecutive album number 1 for the girls! Some loose facts from wiki which I found interesting - Although it was Amelle's first production, many of the songs from the album were tracks that did not appear on Taller In More Ways. The French edition of Change is a greatest hits compilation because the album Overloaded: The Singles Collection was not released there, and it contains all their hits since "Overload" to "Denial" "Never Gonna Dance Again" was originally written for the groups previous album Taller In More Ways but was cut from the final track listing due to the girls not being fond of the song. When the group were writing the fifth studio album, they came back to the track and grew to like the song, prompting the group to add it to the album Change. The Change tour was their longest being 30 days. I never knew this one, I can't figure it out - "Denial" samples "Standing in the Way of Control" by The Gossip. 11 \ About You Now \ This will never not be an utter bop. Best thing about the album version is that it's ever so slightly longer than the radio edit so we get that lil bit more Keisha
 That extra pre-chorus is spot on. The vocals on this track are on point! Some great ad-libs from Keisha and I love Amelle's vocals on the verses10 \ Never Gonna Dance Again \ I'm not sure I can even imagine Mutya's vocals on this, even though it's a TIMW reject. Amelle just starts the song off so beautifully, in fact all the verses have really lovely vocals. Love this song so much 11 \ Denial \ This is such a Heidi track and she OWNS it. I am so so so glad that this was released as a single and it is by far the best non-2.0 video and right up there with the best 2.0 videos. Stunning track, a real career & 3.0 highlight 09 \ My Love Is Pink \ I hated this for years. It has grown considerably on me, especially post-freedom, to the point where I really kinda enjoy it a lot. 10 \ Change \ STUNNING. Like truly goosebump inducing stunning. Vocals for days, stunning harmonies, this is just a Sugaballad by numbers and it is exquisite. Every single Sugababes album has that one ballad that just stands heads and shoulders above everything and everyone and this is it for Change. (Run For Cover, Stronger, Conversation's Over, Follow Me Home (Mutya)/Now You're Gone (Amelle), Change, Sunday Rain, No More You) 08 \ Back When \ I mean it's nice and the chorus is lovely but the middle 8 from Amelle and Keisha into a key change really elevates/saves this track. Without it, it'd just be there. Longest song on the album and not only does it feel like it, it doesn't really do anything with it. You could cut the last 25 seconds of this song without even noticing it wasn't there. 03 Surprise (Goodbye) \ I still hate this. The backing track is repulsive and the bridge is clunky and my god the chorus is just nasty. The post-chorus is rather lovely though. Really really shocking that this came from Dallas Austin. Push The Button and Ugly are flawless (Ugly haters to be banished to the shoutbox) and then to come out with this is just awful. Oh god and the middle 8 might just be the worst bit, it's tragic. Supposedly a TIMW reject too and it should have stayed in the bin. It's at this point you start to wonder if Mutya was like the last line of defence and did that final bit of Quality Checking. (Then you remember what Real Girl ended up being....) 10 \ Back Down \ YAAAAAAAS. Such a flawless bop and this is so f***ing good live. A real highlight of the Change Tour (and album) for me. I love everything about this. It's the babes at their Angels/Three genre hopping best. 10 \ Mended By You \ August 23rd do you remember? I want something super significant (& positive) to happen to me on August 23rd so I can hammer this track like "yes Amelle, yes I do remember August 23rd". I adore this. It's a Sugaballad by numbers but that's just a recipe for success. 11 \ 3 Spoons Of Suga \ YAS pop-bop. I was dying for this to be released at the time, and still am. The song lends itself so well to a super good and almost literal video. Such a missed opportunity. I think this would have been the perfect song to close out the era on....and the album too. It defo should have stopped here. 04 \ Open The Door \ It does absolutely nothing for me at all. It's so bland and nothingy. 02 \ Undignified \ Lyrically this is a straight up 10. Melodically, it's a -999999999. The chorus is almost creepily up tempo and happy for the lyrics. I hate this so much. On par with Shape for the Sugababes (1.0-3.0) song I detest the most. The only song on this rate I didn't listen the whole way through. I hate it that much 10 \ In Recline \ Better than half the album. It's fun and easily the best post-Mutya original b-side. (Original coz the I Bet That You Look Good On The Dancefloor cover BANGS). Was so glad this was rescued from the cancelled Good To Be Gone single release. Amelle's "You just hit, you hit this spot, I'm frustrated getting hot" gets me every time. I do prefer the original mix that was on the GTBG single, it's slightly longer at 3:50 08 \ I Can't Take It No More \ Would have fitted really well on the album alongside Back Down in place of Undignified or Open The Door or Surprise (Goodbye). Really enjoyable. MLIP and Back When have grown on me over time so it's no longer quite so 50% hit 50% miss for me, but it's defo got the most duds of any of the Sugababes 6 proper albums. God I miss these girls releasing music  They're just unparalleled for me. I am so glad I got to grow up with them and their music

The first one of theirs I adored. TIMW was OK, but I find that to be a bit overrated. This is a lot more "safe pop" but it bangs hard for me Edit: I dunno why, but I feel like MBY would've served so well as a single and been released with the 'Follow Me Home' video. |
