I wonder how different the rankings will look at the end of the year.
I think it is going to be a very interesting year to see how the 'Big' names try to come back, so far not so well...I'm expecting a rise of the young pretenders and maybe some older ones falling by the side, maybe attempt to keep up but end up falling down rankings and retiring.
Murray just pulled out of Brisbane, Djokovic has pulled out of his warm up event as well on the mens side and Nadal is plagued with his knee again, Wawrinka still not back on it either yet on the womens side Muguruza just pulled out of Brisbane during the match due to cramp for 4th year in row!!
Anyway as season begins and just 13 days to AusOpen..
Brit Watch
Kyle Edmund beat Shapovalov in the first round of Brisbane,
Konta beat Madison Keys in 3 sets for her first win in an age plays her 2nd round at the moment down a break in first set against Tomljanovic
Watson lost in final round of qualies but got lucky loser spot and lost in first round
Naomi Broady lost in qualies as did her brother Liam
Selected Others
Ostapenko started with a loss to the lower ranked Pliskova sister Kristina
Halep, Sharapova, Radwanska and Wozniacki all made winning starts
Konta came through in 3 sets to the last 8 will play either Svitolina or Konjuh
Murray post on his feeds is very touching, he has surgery as option but from the sounds of it it might finish his career if not successful I really feel for him
Murray has withdrawn from the Aus Open and will return to assess and contemplate hip surgery.
In Brisbane Konta retired against Svitolina in the 3rd set with a hip injury
Looking like Konta could be a doubt for the Australian Open following that retirement.
Also Kei Nishikori is out of the Australian Open as well.
Seemed to be expected that Murray would pull out. It's a shame.
Yeah its a massive shame I can see Murray being out most of year, especially if has to do surgery maybe even possibly, dare I say it.. retiring.
Still a lot of doubts for the Aus Open due to fitness a few tests to come for Djokovic, Nadal, Warwrinka and then you have Konta, Muguruza, Azarenka and a few others on womens side. Konta said she was unsure if just a muscle pull or spasm but wont be able to assess til the morning.
Kyle Edmund won on the plus side in Brisbane making it to the quarters will play either Millman or Dmitrov
Serena has withdrawn as well, kind of expected but a shame . also Nishikori is out.
Great to see Goerges pick up where she left off in 2017.
Kyle Edmund has withdrawn from Auckland this week with his ankle problem, more a precaution then anything, so be ready for Aus Open.
Konta is in to defend her title in Sydney where her first round is against Radwanksa, which was last years final line up!, Radwanska racket change last year has seen her tumble down the rankings after being stable in top ten for a long time but a lot reckon her time is up as her game style is no longer a force it once was.
Other Sydney results US champ Sloane Stephens continues to slump another first round defeat against Qualifier Ciorgi, rising star Sevastova also lost, Kerber came through a 3 setter against Safarova, Ostapenko and Mladenovic also lost.
In Hobart a place where Heather Watson won a title in 2015 she came through qualies to make the main draw and then took out Sorana Cirstea in the first round, while the wildcard of Bouchard who a few said didn't deserve a WC where as Heather did as a former champ , slumped to a first round loss to Sabalenka. Other first round losses at Hobart for Nara, Maria, Pliskova and Babos.
Azarenka has also withdrawn from the Aus Open due to the ongoing custody battle she is locked in
Murray had surgery today!: From his facebook
Andy Murray
·
Today I underwent successful right hip surgery at the St Vincent Hospital in Melbourne. I'd like to thank Dr John O’Donnell and all of the staff for looking after me. I look forward to returning to competitive tennis during the grass court season. Thanks to everyone for all the well wishes and support over the last few days. I'll comeback from this
Andy Murray has had hip surgery in Melbourne:
"My plan is to be back playing around the grass-court season - potentially before then - but I'm certainly not going to rush anything."
Hope to see you back fully fit soon, Andy.
Konta loses in 1st round Sydney to Radwanska 6/3 7/5... not a good defense of her major title from last year but positive signs of no injury
Mens first round losses for Simon, Verdasco, Zverev and Bedene
Heather is through to the quarter finals in Hobart where she next faces Vekic, she beat Jamie Fourlis 6/2 6/2
In Sydney on the mens side the seeds Ramos-Vinolas, Schwartzman and Dzumhur went out while Fognini and Mannarino progressed, in the ladies side Muguruza and Radwanska marched on while Stosur and Kvitova fell.
In ATP Auckland Sock, Isner, Querrey, Johnson, Cuevas and Shapovalov all lost in the 2nd round, Del Potro beat the rising Shapovalov and secures his return to the top ten next week. Ferrer and Bautista Agut also won
Heather marched on in Hobart defeating Vekic 6/0 6/4 (she did have a 5/0 lead in 2nd set but Vekic came alive) she will face defending champ Elise Bertens who got a walk over in the semi finals. Been a good week for Heather moves her back top 70. The other semi final is Tsurenko V Buzarnescu who defeated Riske.
Auckland sees Haase V Bautista Agut and Del Potro V Ferrer in the semi finals
In Sydney Ashleigh Barty is the last highest ranked player at 17 in world through to the semi finals to face fellow Aus Gavrilova who got a walkover after Muguruza pulled out just hours after winning her previous match. Italian Giorgi continues a good run taking out Radwanska and will face Kerber in the other semi who has shown her old fighting determination this week.
In the mens side talented youngster Medvedev continues to impress he will take on hot headed italian Fognini after he defeated Mannarino in 3 sets.. The other sem will be Paire who took out Muller and the winner of either Feliciano Lopez or Alex De Minaur.
In Brit Watch from Aus Open Qualifying.... Naomi Broady came through first round but Cam Norrie lost in 2nd round meaning Kyle Edmund only Brit male in main draw
Konta V Brengle
Watson V Putinseva
Edmund V Anderson
first round matches and all toughies for the brits down under
Thanks for the updates,Mikee. Great to see Camila Giorgi now has a proper coach instead of her dad and she's now in a semi-final having beaten Stephens,Kvitova and Radwanska.
Lot of rain down under delaying a lot of the qualifying matches, Naomi posted she been called for her match a lot warmed up twice got on court once and then called off again.
Elsewhere
Hobart - Heather lost in a 3 setter against defending champion Mertens she will face Buzarnescu
Sydney - Qualifier Medvedev beat Fognini in 3 sets and will play the winner of De Minaur V Paire, in the ladies Barty beat fellow Aus Gavrilova in 3 and Kerber took out Giorgi in 2 they will play each other in the final a big match for both.
Auckland - Del Potro will play Bautista Agut in the final

Naomi lost in 2nd round of qualies so wont be taking part at Australian this year.
Kerber Wins Sydney her first title since 2016.
9 matches and 9 wins so far for Angie in 2018.
I've updated the mens and womens draws with the qualifiers and who they be playing
In regards to Tomic , I dunno, maybe I'm going soft in my old age, but this does make me feel sorry for him, because I wonder about his mental state. I mean since he made these comments last year, he's lost sponsors, hardly won a match, so this talk of millions is pretty much illusory, oh well, we'll see, certainly something not right in his noggin.
Bad day for American tennis, especially the womens side, seeds tumbled left right and centre, Brit Kyle marched on with a brilliant 5 set win over US Runner up Anderson, Last years Womens runner up Venus fell to defeat by the resurgent Bencic who after wrist surgery is finding top form again.
That was such a good win for Kyle Edmund, especially after the ankle injury he sustained two weeks ago.
Konta through , Sharapova through, Petkovic V Kvitova in a battle, Petkovic got edge at moment 3-0 up in 3rd, Watson not on yet been some epic mens matches.. Raonic out
Heather lost in 2 tight sets 7/5 7/6 (8/6) she did have set point in 2nd set but went long, the match lasted longer then Federers 3 set win over Bedene. The lower ranked Zverev retired from his match and Bautista Agut went out as well. Kvitova went out to Petkovic in 3 sets, after Petkovic leading 4/0 at one point Kvitova came back but lost it 10/8!
Kyle came through in an hour and half 6/2 6/2 6/4 a good win against Istomin who shocked Djokovic last year, Nadal continues to breeze through in straight sets, Wozniacki survived a massive scare she was down 5/1 40/15 in 3rd and came back to win and same for Tsonga down 5/2 in 5th and pulled it back to get through
Some fascinating ladies matches Mertens was 5-0 down to Gavrilova and took the set 7-5 followed by the match she saved 8 set points!! and watch out for Kostyuk just 15 years old come through qualies and into third round big name for future ... Tsonga V Kyrgios should be a cracker of a match bound to be Rod Laver night match on Friday, Kyle got perfect chance here to get to quarters, Cant see anyone bothering Nadal until quarters. Bottom Half Ladies all about Wozniacki, Svitolina and Ostapenko
Konta, Sevatsova, Muguruza, Querrey all out
Konta losing in straight sets to the world No 123 to Pera. I find it hard to see how she take positive vibes following this defeat. It's not really good enough.
Kerber V Sharapova a stand out for me in this half, the mens side on both half of draws really doesn't get too interesting until the 4th round and quarters
Great win for Kyle in tough conditions and a great chance to get to the quarters, Ostapenko loses meaning only 2 former slam winners left Sharapova and Kerber who face each other next so then there will be one former champ left!
Nadal has Schwartzman next, meaning he will have played 15 matches in a row against non top 25 opponents, a new record.
Zverev still yet to make the 2nd week of a slam then....
Maria Sharapova was blown away by a stunning Angelique Kerber performance in round three of the Australian Open.
Kerber looking quite good and looking like Pliskova going through quite quietly not seen any buzz about her at all.
Round of 16:
Nadal vs Schwartzman
Carreno Busta vs Cilic
Dimitrov vs Kyrgios
Edmund vs Seppi
Thiem vs Sandgren
Djokovic vs Chung
Fognini vs Berdych
Federer vs Fucsovics
Halep vs Osaka
Pliskova vs Strycova
Kerber vs Hsieh
Garcia vs Keys
Martic vs Mertens
Svitolina vs Allertova
Kontaveit vs Suarez Navarro
Wozniacki vs Rybarikova
Who was the last non Murray British male to get to the last 16 of a Slam?
Kyle through to the quarters with a 4 set win over Seppi to face either Dmitrov or Kyrgios ... other quarter Nadal V Cilic
I didn't release Edmund himself had got so far in a previous Slam (although I checked and it was actually 2016 )
Amazing that he's in the quarters, I'm all for a new British #1 this year!
Really pleased for him, seems to have come out of nowhere in this Slam very much like how Konta did back in 2016.
Hoping he faces Kyrgios in the Quarters, he'll have much more of a chance of progressing.
Kyle will move up to 35 in world new high for him
Really pleased for Edmund, he seems to have really worked on his game over the break. He lost against some big players last year in really tight matches, so who knows maybe this year could be his breakthrough.
I still think a fit and firing Murray is a much better player, but I have no idea if he will ever return to his best. Think tennis could do with some new stars though...
What a fantastic tournament, Kyle Edmund has had. Played brilliantly in his fourth round match. Looks like this year could be his breakthrough. Who knows? Maybe getting into the Top20 in the rankings. He could be seeded for the French Open.
Thiem out and Djokovic 2 sets and a break down to Chung
Chung takes out Djkovic in 3 sets 7/6(7/4) 7/5 7/6(7/3), Nice to see Berdych playing well again
I believe that makes Chung the first South Korean to reach an quarter-final of a Grand Slam.
I think Chung could be a massive threat to Federer if he gets passed Sandgren which he should do.. Top half I can only see Nadal reaching the final, going for semi's Dmitrov V Nadal, Chung V Federer
Ladies Halep keeps on about her ankle and injury but if that bad she would of lost by now after being run ragged by previous opponents although Osaka didn't do enough of that today, I think the womens is harder to predict but I think it be Kerber V Pliskova, Wozniacki V Mertens ... probably be Svitolina but Mertens been in good form recently and defended Hobart title
Soooo glad to be proven wrong in my prediction.... Kyle Edmund beats Dmitrov in 4 sets to make Semi Finals
It will be an Cilic v Edmund semi-final as Nadal retired hurt in the fifth set. Shame to see that happen to him.
Kyle will move upto about 26th in the world after that stunning victory.
There is a Social media storm brewing with Sandgren he has deleted 18 months worths of tweets and retweets which showed support for alt right, racist, homophobic and transphobic remarks and retweets of those who are against trans, not pretty stuff to be honest and of course you cant delete these things screen shots where already made.
That's a tremendous achievement by Kyle Edmund to beat the no.3 seed.
Away from the Australian Open for a moment as Serena Williams has been named in the Fed Cup squad for next month's tie against Netherlands.
Nice to see Serena play the Fed Cup, gives her some match tests.
Kerber seems to be in serious form so far this year and could be the winner come the weekend she faces Halep who quite easily beat Pliskova...The last times that Serena was absent from the Aus Open two Belgiums won the title... Clistjers and Henin... we still have a Belgium in the mix Mertens who is in good form
Added the juniors quarter finals in... McHugh flying the flag for Britain.
Serena Williams has called for American tennis player Tennys Sandgren to apologise for his controversial tweets.
The world number 97 deleted 18 months' worth of tweets after being questioned about his beliefs and denied he was a far-right sympathiser.
Just apologise man.
Caroline Wozniacki defeated Elise Mertens 6/3 7/6(7/2) where she will face Simona Halep who defeats Angelique Kerber 6/3 4/6 9/7 ... Its a final not to be missed as one will win their first slam and also the world number 1 is at stake.. win it win it all
Cilic defeats Kyle 6/2 7/6(7/4) 6/2 ... at the start of the Aus Open I did not expect there to be any Brits left in the 2nd week, with Murray out and Konta off form I certainly didn't expect Kyle to get to 2nd week never mind passed Anderson, hoping this will be his breakthrough moment like konta a couple of years ago.
Cilic will move top 3 with that victory a career high
It's been a great tournament for Kyle. At least he made a match of it. Why was Cilic suspended a few years ago?
Was banned for 9 months for testing positive for a banned stimulant drug.....
McHugh is first Brit junior boy to reach a semi final since... Kyle Edmund in 2013
People on here will know my stance on people who have had a drugs ban.
I think Federer will win in straight sets against Chung. Hoping Chung can give Federer a good game though.
Federer through Chung retired in 2nd set trailing 6/1 5/2
Hoping Halep finally wins a first Open tomorrow!
And of course backing R-Fed for Slam number 20
Hoping the greatest wins again for number 20. I think Cilic could push him but can't see that happening.
Wozniacki defeats Halep in 3 sets 7/6 (7/2) 3/6 6/4 to win her first slam title and reclaim the number 1 spot, Pavic and Marach take the mens doubles title, the boys junior won by American Korda and Liang of Chinese Taipei took the girls junior title
Federer wins his 20th slam with a 5 set victory over Cilic....6/2 6/7(5/7) 6/3 3/6 6/1 and that completes this years Aus Open...
What happened to the top seeds???
Nadal retired in the Quarters & Halep lost in the final^
Thrilled to see the Fed Express pass platform #20, still so much juice left in the tank too!
Well done Federer (a 20th grand slam title at the age of 36 )
Well done Wozniacki too.
LEGEND!
The man is an complete genius, well done Federer. The greatest of the modern era. Fantastic he's still winning Grand Slams.
Davis Cup action today and over the weekend and bad news for Brits as Kyle Edmund looks set to miss the tie against Spain, He's not fit for todays match so our singles matches today will be Liam Broady and Cameron Norrie, Spain are without Nadal but have a strong team of Carreno Busta, Bautista Agut and Ramos Vinolas as well as Feliciano Lopez to help their side in Spain on Clay, I dont think the Brits will be progressing
When was the last time that there were two British men in the top 30 of the Tennis Rankings? Must have been at least ten years ago at the height of Henman/Rusedski.
Well that was unexpected but very pleasing ... Norrie beats world #23 Bautista Agut from 2 sets down 4/6 3/6 6/3 6/2 6/2 to level the tie 1-1
Norrie was backed at 200-1 to win on the Betfair exchange in play.
Cameron Norrie jumped through the rankings last year after turning professional. If he keeps up the momentum, he could be the third British male in the Top 30 by the end of the year.
Another spirited inspired performance from Norrie, but not quite enough against Ramos Vinolas losing in four sets. But really pushed him in the first three sets. Been an breath of fresh air watching him this weekend. That means Spain has beaten Great Britain 3-1 in the Davis Cup first round.
Norrie going to be good if he can play like that on clay for first time professionally some of his shots was unreal and his stamina and fight was impressive
The GB ladies going well in Fed cup Europe/Africa Play Off Promotion Zone, beat Portugal 3-0 and Estonia 3-0 and 1-0 on Hungary at the moment to go back to play offs where last year they met Romania and that awful incident with coach Nasty
So GB's next Fed Cup opponents will either be Russia, Spain, Canada or Ukraine.
Depends who turns up to play but Canada look to be the best option.
GB have drawn Japan in the world group Fed Cup play offs in april - Away.. Japans highest ranked player at the moment Naomi Osaka 51
Number 1 again 15 years after he, Roger first became number 1. Wow.
Cameron Norrie comes through Acapulco qualifiers and has drawn Thiem in Round 1.
I'm more of a female tennis fan, the Williams, Martina, monica, Jana, Mary Pierce, Henin some of my fave females, mens Federer, Murray, never been fussed about Nadal and Djokovic.
Naomi Broady also came through qualies of Indian Wells 125k series, Heather playing in Acapulco this week, felt a bit quiet on Heathers side lately after a good start to season.
A possibility of a 'World Cup of Tennis Fianls' being replaced with the Davis Cup:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/tennis/43202373
What do you make of this?
Just saw Rafa has pulled out of Rio and is in doubt now for IW and Miami.
He's had a run of pulling out of tournaments since last year.
I think the Davis Cup could be good but be better integrating with Fed Cup and having World Cup Tennis in one place at one time, or they need to make adjustments to the Fed Cup....but all the attention is always mens tennis... BBC Sport reported on Jamie Murrays doubles title win this week but no mention of Heather Watsons at the same tournament, it was eventually added into the article in a small piece late yesterday evening. I know the mens is probably the matches most are interested in etc but reporting should be of both wins not just an add on way after, I find it shoddy reporting and sexist, another example this morning GMB reporting on Athletics and said Andy Pozzi was the only british gold medal winner!! totally no report on KJT
Kyle Edmund is the new British number 1 at #24 as Murrays points fall off while he prepares his return from injury.
Serena is making her big comeback in Indian Wells and could face Venus in R3.
Heather Watson has drawn Azarenka in R1!
Norrie qualifies for his first major ATP 1000, possible 2nd round match with Djokovic..
Sharapova continues to struggle losing to Osaka in first round
Marias comeback is going from bad to worse. Bad loss to Osaka in R1. So many errors and double faults.
You've got to congratulate Osaka as well though. That must have given her a massive confidence boost going into the next round.
Jo loses early again. Going nowhere at the moment and she has a shed load of points to defend in Miami.
Yeah Jo certainly not the Jo we grew to love over the last few years, her game feels like it is back to the inconsistent way it was before she had a good patch, Kyle also lost to Dudi Sela.
Djokovic suffered a loss to world 109 Taro Daniel, Pouille, Zverev, Schwartzman, Isner and Muller all lost as well
Azarenka, Mladenovic, Ostapenko, Kvitova all lost as well.
On female brit side good news is Gabi Taylor is really performing well winning a lot of lower tiered events and climbing rankings into top 180
Jo Konta with 1000 points to defend next week in Miami.
If she's out in the first couple of rounds she'll be back down in the mid-20s in the rankings or thereabouts.
Ye big week for Jo needs to find some consistency
Federer just matched his best run of 16 tour wins in a row not lost this year yet
Big breakthrough week for both womens finalists at Indian Wells, Kasatkina and Osaka both had some great victories during the week. Federer went on his best start to a season with 17 victories in a row to come to an end in the final
Naomi lost in three sets, Katie won which was great as did Liam and Cameron and looking at final Q round they all have a brilliant chance to make main draw.
Kyle and Jo both have byes and Heather first round is against Haddad Maia who won the only other previous time they met.
Heather suffered another first round loss...
All the brits left in Qualies came through and made main draw which is good going and rewarded with a good chance to progress in mens as Liam drawn fellow qualifier Fratangelo and Cameron got Jarry , Katie on the other hand has drawn Hseih
Cameron and Katie both lost their first rounds but Liam progressed a good victory for him.
Serena also lost against Osaka as she continues her comeback
Federer will lose the world #1 ranking next week after Miami with his 2nd round loss to kokkinakis he's also confirmed he wont be playing clay season again this year.
Good win for Jo over Mertens who reached the Australian Semi Finals and sets up a 4th round clash with Venus who she beat in Miami last year at the semi final stage before going on to win the title.
Marin Cilic and Juan Martin del Potro also made it through to the fourth round on Sunday in Miami with straight-set victories.
Jo lost in 3 sets 5/7 6/1 6/2 she needed a medical time out after second set, means she falls to roughly 22nd in world, Muguruza also lost meaning all the top 3 women are out.
John Isner has upset second seed Marin Cilic to reach the quarter-finals of the Miami Open.
Miami feels very open for anyone to win on both sides.
Nice to see Sloane Stephens have a good run and she'll move into the top ten with it faces Azarenka in semi final which is also nice to see her doing well here, the other half of the draw Venus should take the win in her QF over wildcard Collins but she has been playing very well and Venus has had 2 three set matches in a row, the other QF is harder to predict Ostapenko V Svitolina.
The mens side will probably go down to Del Potro from the bottom half, he faces off against Raonic in his QF and the other QF is Isner V Chung, although Chung has flown up the rankings and been playing very well he could upset them all if on his game. In the top half we have Carreno Busta V Anderson, Zverev V Coric
I think it will be a close match between Del Potro v Raonic. The winner of that would probably be favourites to win Miami.
I very much do appreciate, Mikee1981 with these updates. So thanks for doing this.
Not sure Raonic found his feet again yet and Del Potro been on a roll of late coming off the back of Indian Wells as well I think he'll be favourite.
Thanks I enjoy doing them, roll on June Queens, Eastbourne, Wimbledon my favourite time of year
It was a three-set thriller as Del Potro beat Raonic.
Venus lost to qualifier Danielle Collins in the quarters which I believe is Collin's first win over a Top10 player.
I was very surprised to see Venus lose, but I was wary as she had played 2 three setters.
Del Potro and Raonic was closer than I thought would be, I thought maybe 3 sets but not 2 ties
Andy Murray looks set to return at the Libema Open in June before Wimbledon.
Sloane defeated Azarenka in 3 sets to reach her first Miami final she will face current French Open champ Ostapenko who overcame Collins.
The other mens semi is set for Carreno Busta V Zverev
Great win for Isner as he beats Del Potro to make the final.
yeah good win for Isner, sees him return top 10.. He'll face Zverev in the final after he beat Carreno Busta
Stephens has won the Miami Open by beating Ostapenko in straight sets.
Dimitrov could move to number 3 easily with a few half-decent runs, the ATP is in an interesting phase.
Top 3 is anyones really, Fed and Nadal got top 2 sown up for a while, way Del Potro playing lately he could easily become top 3 as well
Another loss for Hev in Charleston to Taylor Townsend, she cannot get a win at all lately, Naomi won in Monterrey a good first round for her.
Konta lost to world # 219 Fanny Stollar in 2nd round of Charleston, she really needs some good wins and confidence boost
What the is going on with Jo Konta atm? Her loss in Charleston was to a player ranked outside the Top 150! Very disappointing.
Naomi Broady has been knocked out of the Monterrey Open in the second round after losing in three sets to number four seed Timea Babos.
I totally forgot to post that this morning when I looked at the result..... think I was still rolling my eyes and shaking my head from Kontas loss lol
I think Garbine celebrated more winning that MM tournament than any of her slams.
Been away for few days but nice to see Naomi Broady win a first WTA title in the doubles last week
Kyles first final, he should of won but had nothing to give in the final
Dan Evans is set to return from a one-year drugs ban as a wildcard entrant into the qualifying draw at the Glasgow Trophy on 28 April.
Kyle lost in the first round in three sets to Seppi at Monte Carlo, possibly still recovering from Marrakech final on Sunday
Andy will probably drop into the 50's, he could be unseeded at Wimbledon as will Serena.
Won't Andy be on a PR though so will probably seed him cos been out injured, where as cos Serena wasn't she not on a PR, theres been a big argument about this for a while saying any female tennis player who has a baby should be entitled to have a PR
Tie balanced as expected. Time for Jo to get back her form of a year ago to beat Naomi tomorrow.
They should both have protected ranking to be honest.
Congratulations to Nishikori in reaching the Final. He doesn't normally play at Monte Carlo.
Don’t know what’s up with Novak he goes into flashes of the old Novak for a set or maybe a few games then goes weird bit like Rafa in 2015
Dan Evans won on his return in 1st round qualies Glasgow
Nadal just recorded his 400th!!! clay win in Barcelona beating Goffin 6/4 6/0 and will face Tsitsipas who is having a brilliant week in the final
Rafael Nadal has captured an 11th Barcelona Open title, defeating Tsitsipas 6-2 6-1.
Dan Evans defeated Ireland's Sam Barry to reach the main draw of the Glasgow Challenger and earn himself an ATP ranking again.
Dan lost his 1st round in Glasgow, took first set easily but unravelled through next
Heather falls to another loss as well, she hasn't won a match since January and hasn't won a set since Feb, lots of grass points to defend coming up
Talks of a possibility that Serena Williams could be made top seed for Wimbledon. What do you make of this?
Also news that the winner will receive £2.5 million for winning Wimbledon.
They said it was unlikely Serena would be #1 seeded at Wimbledon, I can see them maybe seeding her, Wimbledon do have their own way of seeding and going on past form on grass and history. I just want Serena to be back to her best and hopefully Murray as well as I think they both add a lot to the game and tour and it seems a little dull at the moment
Cameron Norrie could climb into the Top 100 for the first time after beating Robin Haase in the first found of the Estoril Open.
in live ranking updates he is 100 and I dont think anyone below him can over take him , he has automatic entry to French as well which is fab news.
nice to see James Ward back playing as well, always felt he had potential but injury never seemed to allow him to climb, always a good player in Davis Cup
Once again looking unlikely that Murray's comeback will be delayed.
Kyle Edmund has beaten Djokovic in three sets to reach the third round of the Madrid Open which will mean that Kyle will reach the world's Top 20. He plays Goffin next.
Serena Williams has announced that she has withdrawn from this month's Italian Open. Which has put doubts about whether she'll complete in the French Open.
Edmund's run in the Madrid Open came to a end with a defeat to Shaporalov who is best known for whacking the tennis ball at an umpires eye during the Davis Cup match last year against Great Britain.
Nadal's unbeaten run on clay has ended with defeat to Thiem in the Madrid Open. It means that Federer will replace Nadal as the World No.1 on Monday.
Saw on twitter that in 2007 when Djokovic entered the top 15, Federer and Nadal were the top two, now in 2018 Djokovic leaves the top 15, Federer and Nadal are the top two. Crazy stuff.
It's incredible really those 2 are still the top top tier after all these years.
Nadal and Federer's staying power is unreal but is it also the inconsistency of the younger players who help them out?, Federer back at #1 but hasn't played for weeks, he's barely playing and managing to sustain rank.
Murrays return officially was and still is June, the week before Queens but I think he is going to be out longer, but nice to see Kyle go top 20 and keep British tennis on the up.
Kvitova must be a real contender for the French this year, some good wins of late and fab to have her back at her best after her horrific ordeal.
Did you see this from Karolina Pliskova:
Kyle Edmund beat another top-20 player as he saw off France's Lucas Pouille in straight sets to reach the Italian Open third round yesterday. He plays Alex Zverev in the next round.
Kyle lost in 2 tight sets to Zverev and Konta lost in 3 to Ostapenko, Kontas match was a bit feisty between herself and the umpire.
I didn't see the Pliskova incident but had heard of it
Just watched that video.. havent heard of a sanction yet but that deserves one
Nadal claims an 8th Italian Open and returns to world #1, Svitolina defends title and again beats Halep
Heather Watson scored her first win since Hobart in January yesterday beating Bondarenko in 3 sets
Hev lost to Fanny Stollar in 2 sets
James Ward and Dan Evans both progressing in Loughborough
And Cam Norrie has just beaten John Isner in Lyon to reach the semi finals... god win that for Norris
Great result for Norrie and a really good scalp too.
Good draw for Djokovic and the bottom half is land of the qualifiers.. I will edit them in when its updated
Interesting battle of former champs Muguruza V Kuznetsova round 1 could be tricky, Konta tricky first round on her least fave surface, Serena's first slam back I am not expecting much and a possible second round of defending champ Ostapenko and returning Azarenka
Have updated the draws with Qualifiers and any Lucky Losers I spotted.... Round 1 blockbuster fiery match ... Kyrgios V Tomic!!!

Konta loses in 1st round again 6/4 6/3 to Putinseva, Venus also falls and Kyrgios is the 8th man to withdraw so far
Defending champion Ostapenko goes out in straight sets, only the second defending champion of Roland-Garros in its history to lose in 1st round, the other Myskina
Hasse complaining after being two sets up against Goffin and then losing in five sets.
What Konta said:
https://www.twitter.com/simonrbriggs/status/1000789293642780673
Good win for Hev 6/3 6/0 over Dodin... Rain called time on play today so here's the draws as they stand, bottom halves completed.
A comfortable win for Heather Watson which will hopefully boost her confidence.
I think it could be a four-setter when Norrie play Pouille. Good to see Cameron on a purple patch.
Konta gives me the impression she simply can't handle the heat & pressure to become a top class sportsperson. Fine when the expectation was lower but now as our clear #1 every open we're seeing a different side.
I dont think its the problem of cant handle the heat and pressure she had it on her back for a while, I think its her coaching set up, a lot of changes over the past year and nothing is working as good as it did when she hit the good run she had that started her rise. I can see another coaching change coming if grass season is poor
Nice to see Serena back and winning her first round, good win for Kyle as well today... Halep for some reason is only player not to complete her first round yet she plays tomorrow, bit odd! sure they could of lumped her on some court somewhere if time was tight.
Lots of 5 setters today, Berdych came back from 2 sets down to 2 all but then lost, Dimitrov had a battle, think he only won cos Donaldson got cramp bad at 7-6 5th set.Nishikori and Zverev had a tough test as well..... Hev on 1st tomorrow 10am UK time followed by Kyle on same court. Some of the matches in 2nd round still on going but don't think they will finish tonight as light faded and long matches ...
Nadal,s route getting easier and opening up pick of round 3 for me Kyle V Fognini in the top half.
Serena come through in 3 sets, once she got fired up there was no stopping her.... Sharapova V Pliskova an interesting clash in top half 3rd round matches
Some matches to finish tomorrow and some of todays to start tomorrow .... Zverev had another battle and Carreno Busta went out
4th rounds are set.... Sharapova V Serena is an interesting match up, Kyle lost in a 5 setter against Fognini
Could be Maria's best opportunity in years to beat Serena
I think the difference may be serve and movement. If Serena's on top of these then she wins, if not then I think it's finally Sharapova.
Great effort from Kyle in his third round match against Fognini.
Yeah I agree, Maria's best chance to get a win but Serena showed some of the old fighting spirit the other day and she still got it be fun match
Yet another five setter for Zverev against Khachanov. It'll be interesting to see he gets on against Thiem. I would make Thiem the favourite there in their quarter-final match.
Mens Quarters set in bottom half... Djokovic not facing Goffin as expected after he lost in 4 sets to Italian Cecchinato.. I'd go for Djokovic V Thiem semi
Womens bottom half quarters line up now complete, after being held over due to poor light from last night .. Kasatkina came back to finish off the victory over Wozniacki... Think a possible replay of the US final is on the cards... Keys V Stephens but Putinseva and Kasatkina will be tricky opponents
Shame to hear about Serena pulling out of her match due to an arm injury.
Yeah its a shame as the Serena Sharapova match was going to be a highlight of the tournament. Hopefully Serena's back for Wimbledon its a pec, pectoral muscle issue she's going to have scans and things in Paris and see when gets results
And Tsurenko retired 2 games into first set so the ladies 2018 quarters are :
And the mens quarters are now set :
I can see potentially all the women's quarter-finals possibly going the distance there.
It's so hard to care about the bottom half of the women's draw at all, while the top half is positively mouth-watering. I can see both of those matchups being bloodbaths. Kerber and Halep both looked great today, but I can see Halep wilting against Kerber. Muguruza has looked comfortable all tournament, but Sharapova obliterated Pliskova. I can't see any way that the champion doesn't come from this half of the draw.
In terms of the men, I am mostly excited for Thiem to have a shot at getting to the final before meeting Nadal. I really struggle to see Zverev stopping him, and I'm not sure I have too much faith in Djokovic either. And at the end of the day, getting to the final of Roland Garros is all that any man bar Nadal can ask for.
Cecchinato stuns Djokovic in 4 sets! and Thiem takes out an injured Zverev in 3
The ladies went as I expected keys and Stephens set up a rematch of last years US Final
That was an fantastic tiebreak in the fourth set for Cecchinato to win it.
I really think that's it for Djoko now, looks completely out of his depth in the later stages of Slams. Shame really, would have liked to seen him push for Roger & Rafa's numbers but doesn't seem likely.
Meanwhile, Zverev has done little to help his bewilderingly high #2 seed, hasn't even made it past the Quarters of any Slam? I hope Thiem can push for the Final, looks a good bet for a French Open when Rafa retires.
Delighted to see that Muguruza has beaten Sharapova in straight sets, 6-1 6-2. Good for her. Maria was completely blown away in that match.
Thank you Gabine. You made my afternoon. Got her to win in straight sets.
Ladies semis set for tomorrow ... Nice to see Muguruza beat Sharapova quite easily, then the battle of Kerber V Halep in 3 sets... I'm hoping for Muguruza V Stephens final
Always great to see Screamapova lose
Big fan of both Halep & Muguruza but really want the former to finally win a Slam.
Nadal finally loses a set, his first set lost at RG since 2015! , rain break but then he's back stronger
Nadal came through easily in the end over Schwartzmen 4/6 6/3 6/2 6/2 .... Del Potro 2 sets to 1 against Cilic in the other resumed match
Mens semi finals set now for tomorrow as Del Potro takes out Cilic in 4 sets
First ladies finalist is Simona Halep defeats Muguruza 6/1 6/4
I thought that Muguruza was going to take it to three sets! Simona played really well though, I'm hoping she takes the title over one of the Americans.
ITV4 have announced that they have renewed their rights to show the French Open until 2021.
Simona has been very much on form through the whole tournament, so will prob collapse under pressure in final again, although the way she demolished Muguruza it was like that was her final but I think she can quite easily beat either Keys or Stephens.
And Sloane defeats Madison 6/4 6/4.
So saturday final will see either Simona win her 1st slam or Sloane get her 2nd to add to her surprise US win last year
First mens finalist is Dominic Thiem defeats Cecchinato 7/5 7/6 (12/10) 6/1
Nadal came through quite easily against Del Potro
Congratulations to Halep on winning her 1st Grand Slam title by beating Stephens in three sets. A great fightback from her from being a set and a break down.
Yes great to see after coming close on 3 occasions before!
Many congratulations from Nadal on winning his 11th French Open title, 'The King of Clay'. Wasn't straightforward as the score suggests.
11 French Opens. It’s just incredible.
Yeah that's a record that will stand for some time I would think!
So that means the last 6 opens have been won by Federer or Nadal - both just simply too good or no good young players coming through still? Bit of both I would argue!
I didn't get to see the finals in depth grr, feel Wimbledon finals be same got 2 family meals on the sat and sun of that not well planned,
Ladies I thought sloane had her but just seemed to hit a wall at 2-0 up in 2nd
Mens not quite sure how I feel I have never seen a player half way through a game go to their chair and drink fluid and supplements/tablets and have a bit of medical for obvious cramp, seemed a bit unfair really but cant dispute Nadal is king of clay but would of been interesting if went to a 4th
Quite sad reading from Laura Robson
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/tennis/article-5832427/Injury-plagued-Laura-Robson-believes-doesnt-deserve-Wimbledon-wildcard.html
Heather went comfortably through 6-1 6-3 in Nottingham yesterday.
It will be Heather vs Jo in Nottingham.
Good win for Katie Boulter as well over Wickmayer and Gabi Taylor lost a very close battle in 3 sets... also good wins for James Ward, Alex Ward and Dan Evans
Rafael Nadal has withdrawn from next week's Fever-Tree Championships at the Queen's Club in London.
Konta into Nottingham semis facing last years winner Vekic who beat Jo there last year before meeting at Wimbledon for that epic tussle with Jo winning it 10/8 in third, Katie Boulter had a good run beating Wickmayer and then Stosur before losing to Barty. Watson into doubles semis
Dan Evans into semis as well on the mens side.
Andy been training at queens playing against Norrie not looking 100% with a decision later, Djokovic is playing queens
Murray is making his return at Queens, first match Kyrgios!!.. Cam Norris has Wawrinka, Kyle has Harrison and Dan Evans V Mannarino, no easy draw there for the Brits.
Dan is into the mens Nottingham Final, Britains Joe Salisbury won the mens doubles with Frederik Neilsen. In the ladies Hev into doubles final with Buzarnescu and Konta is 6-2 to the good in the semi against Vekic when rain came
Konta completed to reach the final after the rain break and takes on Barty.
Kyrgios a game away from beating Murray here.
Marin Cilic has reached his second successive Queen's Final after beating Nick Kyrgios.
Shame that Cilic win Queens, regular posters on here will know what I think of him.
Bouchard is playing in the Wimbledon qualifiers right now.
Yes,I saw her on Eurosport. It seemed strange seeing her having to play in the qualifiers. Then later on,Sabine Lisicki who has done so well at Wimbledon in the past. I think it's right they have to qualify if their rankings are low, rather than be given wild cards.
James Ward only Brit left in Qualifiers, Dan Evans lost in 2nd round.
Eastbourne today battle of Male Brits
Kyle V Andy and Jay Clark V Cam Norrie, shame all playing each other but great to have 2 brits into quarter finals.
Konta takes on Wozniacki as well, Konta has yet to lose to Wozniacki but things bit different this year.
Hevs loss means she is out of top 100 in next ranking update

Interesting that the top 4 ranked women are the reigning champions of all of the slams! When was the last time that happened?
Also LOL at Andy Murray tumbling to 838 in the world (and the 23rd highest Brit!)
Something to make everyone here feel just that bit older!

Jay Clarke has moved up to a New Career High of 175. He is now Number 18 on the "Next Gen ATP" race to Milan.
Murray facing Kyle next. Gonna have to rate Kyle as the favourite here...
Konta beat Serena Williams in straight sets yesterday, recording Williams's worst ever defeat (1 - 6, 0 - 6) ever.
Doesn't appear that Serena was injured at all. Not sure what to read from that match. But well done Konta.
In a Slam however it would most likely be the other way round!
Murray beat Edmund 7-6 (7-4) 1-6 6-4 in their second round match at the Washington Open.
Benoit Paiore has been fined £12.500 for this at the Washington Open:
Ridiculous scheduling in Murray's match finishing at 3am. Wouldn't be surprised if he pulled out of his quarter-final match.
Kyle Edmund was thrashed 6-1 6-2 by Diego Schwartzman in the first round of the Rogers Cup in Toronto, Canada.
Johanna Konta came from behind to beat 11th seed Jelena Ostapenko in the first round of the Rogers Cup in Montreal.
Konta, ranked 43rd in the world after starting the year in ninth, prevailed 6-7 6-1 6-2.
Konta & Azarenka will have to wait for Cornet & Barty's 3rd round match to finish before returning to court to finish their 2nd round match.
Djokovic out of the Rogers Cup as he loses in three sets to Tsitsipas.
Johanna Konta was beaten 6-3 6-4 by defending champion Elina Svitolina in her second match of the day at the Rogers Cup in Montreal.
Both Murray and Konta are out in the first round of Cincinnati.
Poor Konta, she was up at No.4 after Wimbledon last year and now she is outside the Top 50. Hope that she can have a good run at the US Open.
Serena Williams says she is at the start of a "long comeback" after losing 6-3 2-6 6-3 to Czech Petra Kvitova in Cincinnati.
Garbine Muguruza is out of the second round to Lesia Tsurenko in Cincinnati.
The defending champion, lost 2-6 6-4 6-4.
Naomi Broady's bad form continues. Lost in 3 sets to Canadian wildcard Rebecca Marino.
Davis Cup set to be reformed:

Well done Novak. Completes his set of all the masters events now.

No. 2 seed Caroline Wozniacki will be taking on 2011 champion Samantha Stosur in Round 1 of the US Open.
Simona Halep becomes the first top-seeded woman to lose in the US Open first round, falling to a 6-2 6-4 defeat against Kaia Kanepi.
That's a big shock.
Murray does win his opening match but Verdasco should be a much tougher test...
Both Kyle Edmund and Heather Watson out in the first round but Cameron Norrie through to the second round.
Johanna Konta is out in the first round after losing in straight sets to sixth seed Caroline Garcia.
British representation has been an absolute embarrassment in this tournament. Murray's is understandable having come back from an long injury layoff but the likes of Konta & Watson - na, cheerio.
The officials aren't doing too well this week what with an umpire encouraging Kyrgios to try in the match and the Cornet top incident.
The Cornet incident was ridiculous & rightly widely condemned - crazy reason to give a code violation.
As for Kyrgios? Well nothing new there...
Serena and Venus will play each other tonight - they're due to start play at midnight BST. I'm sure it will be a great match although it feels far too early in the competition. Unless I'm mistaken, it will be their first match on opposite sides of the net since Serena beat Venus in the 2017 Australian Open final?
Edit: They played each other at Indian Wells in March. Venus won in straight sets in the third round.
Should be an intriguing match between the Williams sisters as always. Anyone watched Amazon Prime's coverage of it at all?
Roger Federer out of the US Open 4th round after losing to John Millman in 4 sets.
I don't have Amazon Prime so I'm really out of touch with the US Open. I just check the results each morning.
Serena wants to be known as the Greatest Ever so to surpass Court's 24 is really important to her as she takes on Naomi Osaka in the final.
We have a Delpo v Novak final then.
Naomi Osaka has won the US Open after Serena kicked off big time.
I just really feel bad for both of them bc there was a miscommunication with the first penalty that sent Serena over the edge. And while Naomi played the better game, she didn't deserve to win like that. It was the umpire who created such a toxic atmosphere and instead of making this about Naomi and celebrating her win, it's just gonna be about painting Serena to be the "angry black woman".
I'm calling it like it is. Two WOC dominating a sport that was once only catered to the upper elite white male and performing beautifully. Serena calling out the audience for their ugly behavior was also a moment.
SO happy for Osaka - knew she'd win this match.
The sooner Serena retires the better...
Really pleased for Naomi, I’ve become a bit of a fan of hers lately. Shame apparently bad manners on Serena and the audience’s part overshadowed it but hopefully this’ll just be the first of many for her.
at least Serena's coach had the balls to admit that he was coaching
Not the first time, Serena has been involved in a controversial incident at the US Open.
What angers me the most about the Serena incident is that she brought race and gender in to the argument. No it's nothing to do with either, it's the fact you broke the rules and are a sore loser. Some of the things she said were completely out of order. My favourite line was "I'm a mother. I would never cheat" - I mean, absolutely hilarious. I can understand the emotion in the moment, but the fact she has come out and defended her actions rather than apologise is just terrible.
Feel really sorry for Osaka as it's just taken away a great moment from her.
Agreed completely, it's why she'll never be looked back on as a great champion on the vein of Roger & Rafa for me.
No matter what situation, she ALWAYS has to make it about her. Clearly couldn't handle bring outplayed & outclassed on her home turf by a youngster so had to go & spoil her moment completely. She 100% thinks she's bigger than the game. The crowd were awful as well.
Novak won his third US Open title in straight sets.

Dan Evans will play for Great Britain for the first time since serving a 12-month ban for cocaine use in Friday's Davis Cup tie against Uzbekistan.
And now, we can do a quiz all about tennis tantrums!

British number three Heather Watson has reached the quarter-finals of the Coupe Banke Nationale in Quebec City with a straight-set win against Canadian wildcard Leylah Fernandez.
Really hope Osaka does something at her home tournament rather than predictably losing her first match.
And she didn't has she beat Dominika Cibulkova 6-2 6-1 at the Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo - her first match since winning the US Open.
Great Britain and Argentina have been awarded wildcards for next year's revamped Davis Cup.
The 18 teams next year will be made up of the two wildcards, four semi-finalists from the 2018 Davis Cup - Croatia, France, Spain and USA - and the 12 winners from the 2019 qualifiers, which will be held on 1-2 February.
Australia and Switzerland will replace GB and Argentina in the qualifiers.
Andy Murray beat world number 11 David Goffin - his highest-ranked opponent since returning from hip surgery - to reach the Shenzhen Open quarter-finals.
This is completely heartbreaking from Naomi, on what should be one of the best memories of her career, she's doing everything she can to not think about it.

World number one Simona Halep has suffered a slipped disc which has put her participation in this month's WTA Finals in doubt.
Kyle Edmund is through to the last 16 of the Shanghai Masters with a straight-set victory against Italy's Andreas Seppi.
Kyle Edmund through to the quarter-finals of the Shanghai Masters with victory over Chile's Nicolas Jarry 7-6 (7-5) 6-3.
Final set tie-breaks will be introduced at Wimbledon from next year.
At least the fact that they don't come in until 12-12 should mean that they are fairly rare. Nevertheless, it seems rather unnecessary to bring this in when the real marathons (such as the two Isner matches) hardly ever happen. All too often the authorities (in all sports) introduce a new rule as the result of some exceptional event.
Johanna Konta has lost in the Kremlin Cup semi-finals to Russian sixth seed Daria Kasatkina in Moscow in straight sets.
Well done, Kyle!!!! First ATP title. About time, too!.
