Next up, a bona fide musical legend ....... and someone else who's ego thinks he is one.... laugh.gif

36 63 David Bowie 97

David Bowie - Heroes (live)

Active in five decades of popular music and frequently reinventing his music and image, Bowie is widely regarded as an innovator, particularly for his groundbreaking work in the 1970s filling the artistic vacuum left by The Beatles split. He has been cited as an influence by many musicians and is known for his distinctive voice and the intellectual depth of his work. Between 1967 & 2003 he released 26 studio albums. In 2000 he topped a poll compiled for the BPI to name the most influential musician of the 20th century. Ironically, Simon Cowell has named Bowie as his least favourite male artist. He has not released any new material since his near death heart attack on tour in Germany in 2004, leading fans to suspect that he has retired.

35 84 Kanye West 99

Kanye West - Jesus Walks (live Grammys)

The superior American rapper, record producer, author, and singer has released 4 studio albums since his 2004 The College Dropout debut with covering a whole variety of musical styles. He has been incredibly prolific as a producer as well, but at times his notorious ego can get the better of him.

Kanye West's ego really does put me off a little, however there is no denying he has done some brilliant songs such as 'Through the Wire', 'All Falls Down', 'Touch the Sky', 'Gold Digger' & 'Heartless'. He's also featured on a couple of my favourite songs this year 'Knock You Down' & 'Run This Town' wub.gif So he deserves his high place.

I have no comment on David Bowie as I don't think I've heard that may songs by him...

Next up are two huge climbers, both acts have released new albums within the last 12 months:

34 163 Prodigy 100

Prodigy - The Omen (live at Isle Of Wight festival)

The English electronic hardcore alternative music group formed by Liam Howlett in 1990 in Braintree, Essex, England released their 5th studio album Invaders Must Die this year. Vocallists/dancers Keith Flint and
Maxim Reality are an essential part of this act's visual image, not least when they perform live at Festivals throughout the world.

33 171 Kings Of Leon 101

Kings Of Leon - Sex On Fire (Reading live 2009)

The Followill familly act from Nashville, Tennesse hit the commercial jackpot with their 4th album Only by the Night released in 2008, as the two lead singles Sex On Fire and Use Somebody have become 21st century rock anthems.

People are still voting Evanescence in these things? I thought they were a strictly 2003 fad?

Agreed on Kanye; he CAN produce the odd good song, but he's by far one of the most dislikable artists out there, there's no justification for an ego that big.

Glad Kings Of Leon rose, it really has been their time recently. For all the fuss over Lady GaGa, it's easy to forget she's NOT the biggest selling artist here of recent times.

oh I forgot to but Bowie in my worst list, he makes me feel sick.

Kanye is very overrated

I like some Prodigy stuff but don't think they deserve to be this high, same with KOL.

32 14 Queen 101

Queen - Radio Ga Ga (Live Aid 1985)

Queen consisted of vocalist Freddie Mercury, guitarist Brian May, bassist John Deacon and drummer Roger Taylor. The band became popular from the mid 1970s with audiences via their hit songs, live performances, originality and showmanship. Effectively the band was over after the death of frontman Freddie Mercury from Aids in 1991. They released 15 original albums with this line up. In 2004 their 1981 Greatest Hits album overtook The Beatles' Sgt Peppers.. as the UK's best selling album.

31 59 Bloc Party 102

Bloc Party - Banquet (Live On Letterman)

Eclectic English indie rock/electronic dance band fronted by the intelligent yet politically correct Kele Okereke. To date they have released three albums: 2005 Silent Alarm, 2007 A Weekend In The City & 2008 Intimacy. But am I the one who think's Kele's voice sounds like the bloke doing the "I'd rather have a bowl of Coco Pops" advert?

THE PRODIGYYYYYY wub.gif
They are criminally low, even if they are top 40. Best band of all time. Ever. w00t.gif
Good to see KoL in there as well, but their #15 in the hate top 40 was unjustified sad.gif
And nice to see Kanye making the top 40. biggrin.gif

I think Bloc Party being above The Prodigy has just made me lose faith in this site though. mellow.gif

Great rise for Bloc Party. By far my favourite band. wub.gif
All three of their albums are flawless imo, despite having different musical styles.
Absolutely brilliant.

30 20 Shakira 105

Shakira - She Wolf

Colombian singer-songwriter, musician, record producer, dancer and philanthropist who emerged as a musical prodigy in the music scene of Latin America in the early 1990s. In 2001 she released her debut English language album Laundry Service featuring the monster hits "Whenever, Wherever" & "Underneath Your Clothes"; followed up by 2005 Oral Fixation Vol. 2 and her biggest hit to date "Hips Don't Lie". Her third English language album is released shortly with the lead off single "She Wolf".

29 44 Oasis 105

Oasis - Champagne Supernova (live at Knebworth 1996)

The Manchester rock band featuring the Gallagher brothers became the biggest selling rock UK act of the 1990s thanks to their first two stunning albums Definitely Maybe and (What's The Story) Morning Glory, and the corresponding singles and b-sides. A further five albums have seen their late 1960s/early 1970s meets The Stooges/Sex Pistols/Smiths/Stone Roses wall of sound retro rock becoming an increasingly tired formula. Perhaps it is for the best if Noel Gallagher leaving the band becomes permanent.

28 22 Anastacia 106

Anastacia - Heavy on my heart (Live @ Echo 2004)

This American vocallist has been hugely successful around the world with the exception of her native country. Vocally she has filled in the void left by the semi retirement of Tina Turner. She has released four studio albums to date, but her image for her last album Heavy Rotation post plastic surgery, laser eye surgery and breast enhancement especially for the video to the lead single "I Can Feel You" was quite frankly embarrassing, smacking of mutton dressed as lamb mid life crisis syndrome. Whilst several live performances in promotion of this album were below the standard built up from her previous brilliant live vocals in the past.

27 52 Abba 107

Abba - Slipping Through My Fingers (Live 1981)

1972-1982 Swedish pop group who have sold over 350 million records worldwide thanks to their incredibly catchy melodies written by Björn Ulvaeus & Benny Andersson and vocals from Agnetha Fältskog & Anni-Frid Lyngstad who got their big break winning the Eurovision Song Contest in 1974. But for me after the Mamma Mia musical and (awful IMHO) movie, if I never hear Mamma Mia and Dancing Queen again it will be far too soon. Personally a lot of their best work was left on their albums. I also think like The Beatles their last studio album (The Visitors) was their best as it had a finality to it.
