Group F is the group of death laugh.gif

England need to come 2nd in the group, otherwise they will face France, Portugal or Germany in the second round as winners of the group..

Posted by: LewisGT 30th November 2019, 06:35 PM

A little bit disappointed that we drawn Czech Republic in the match I’m going to see. I could have saved £200 and just went to the qualifier laugh.gif

Posted by: Houdini 30th November 2019, 06:41 PM

England and Croatia going head to head again, the chance for revenge is there for England after the World Cup semi final. They would be the top 2 in Group D most likely. Wales have a good chance of making it to the knockout stages from Group A, I expect Belgium to win all of their group matches in Group B, same goes for Holland in Group C. Group E could go either way as Spain don't seem to as good as they used to be. Group F is well and truly the group of death, the play off winner who makes it to that group will probably be the whipping boys of that group.

Posted by: Steve201 2nd December 2019, 08:41 AM

Goodness look at Group F.

Games in dublin:

Playoff winner vs Poland
Playoff winner vs Sweden
Poland vs Sweden

Round of 16

Winner of England's group vs runner up of Portugal/Germany/France

Hope Playoff winner is Ireland obv.

Also seeing England beaten by Ronaldo or the Germans will be lovely in the round of 16, mind you I'm not sure I would want the English idiot fans wrecking Dublin before or after a potential game - no offence like.

Group F looks scary although I can totally see Portugal finishing 3rd again and then going on to win the whole thing.

Posted by: Steve201 2nd December 2019, 03:37 PM

Do the top 3 teams qualify from the groups again?

Top 4 third placed teams out of the 6 groups, yes.

That's one thing I didn't like about euro 2016 just made the group games stale like the 1990 World Cup!

Strange that France aren't in the first game!

Posted by: LewisGT 5th December 2019, 10:31 PM

BBC have nailed their picks. The first 3 matches of the tournament and the opening game for England and Wales. They have first 2 picks for the last 16 & quarter-final stages too. ITV must be hoping Scotland qualify because then they will have England v Scotland. Can't see that happening though.

Who did the negotiating for ITV, Theresa May? laugh.gif

I have tickets to the England game on 23rd June and then to a KO game on the 27th. Hopefully they won't be played behind closed doors.

That's what I was thinking but hey no point in worrying. How much they set you back?

I have tickets to that one too. It's a shame it ended up being against the Czech Republic.

Doesn't really bode well for the tournament this summer if the coronavirus still is in effect. The new Bond movie has been moved to November.

Posted by: Mack. 5th March 2020, 11:33 PM

No it doesn't especially given the opening game is in Rome. I wouldn't be surprised if it was postponed.

Posted by: Houdini 8th March 2020, 12:22 PM

They will most likely play the first match behind closed doors like they are doing for some Serie A matches. I don't think they would cancel the whole tournament.

Posted by: Mack. 9th March 2020, 11:02 PM

Slovakia v Republic of Ireland in doubt apparently.

Posted by: Mack. 18th March 2020, 07:04 AM

Euro 2020 has been postponed by one year until 2021 because of the coronavirus pandemic.

European football's governing body made the decision during an emergency video conference involving major stakeholders on Tuesday.

The tournament, due to take place from 12 June-12 July this summer, will now run from 11 June to 11 July next year.

North Macedonia apparently debut entry, I think Finland are another country.

England's group looks a bit tough on paper, if we beat Scotland and Czech Republic in the group games, they could progress. Croatia will be the strongest to beat, since we lost in the semi's with them in the World Cup tournament.

Group F looks like the group of death with France, Germany and Portugal.

I thought this was gonna be what is now confirmed as England vs Scotland, shame!

Everything crossed these games still actually go ahead with crowds mind.

Didn’t realise Scotland would play England, fun!

Posted by: LewisGT 2nd March 2021, 12:21 AM

Boris Johnson had confirmed that we have offered to host more games this year! Would be amazing if it ends up happening. I have tickets for the England/Czech Republic game that’s due to be played the day after all lockdown restrictions are meant to end and I’m really hoping it’s going to happen.

He also confirmed that The U.K. & Ireland are going to make a combined World Cup 2030 bid!

Posted by: Mack. 2nd March 2021, 01:12 AM

There's a chance that may happen.

Glasgow and Dublin are at growing risk of being cut from the list of hosts for this summer's European Championship.

With fewer than 100 days until the delayed Euros, Uefa wants each of the countries staging matches to submit their plans - including for the return of fans - by a deadline of 7 April.

Organisers say they still hope to stage matches at the 12 venues as planned.

But the Scottish and Irish governments are yet to provide assurances whether fans will be allowed back by June.

Posted by: Mack. 7th April 2021, 04:46 PM

Confirmed that the Scottish Government will allow up to 25% of Hampden's capacity (~12,000), subject to vaccine rollout etc

Posted by: Mack. 10th April 2021, 12:12 AM

Uefa has confirmed that eight of the 12 host cities for this summer's Euro 2020 will have spectators attending games.

The four remaining cities - Munich, Rome, Bilbao and Dublin - have until 19 April to provide additional information on their plans before final decisions are made whether they can host matches.

The tournament, delayed a year because of the coronavirus pandemic, will take place between 11 June and 11 July.

Host associations had been asked to submit plans to accept fans by 7 April.

London, Glasgow, Dublin, Amsterdam, Copenhagen, St Petersburg, Bilbao, Munich, Budapest, Baku, Rome and Bucharest are all due to host matches.

Budapest is aiming to host spectators at full capacity, while Baku and St Petersburg have confirmed a 50% capacity, although the Russian city is hoping to increase that figure.

The Football Association of Wales has noted the decision of The Crown Prosecution Service to proceed with charging Ryan Giggs, the Men’s National Team Manager.

In light of this decision, the FAW can confirm that Robert Page will assume the role of Cymru Men’s National Team manager for this summer’s EURO 2020 tournament and will be assisted by Albert Stuivenberg.

An FAW Board meeting will be convened to discuss these developments and its impact on the Association and the National Team.

QUOTE
Wembley will host a second Euro 2020 last-16 tie, which could involve England, after Uefa’s executive committee confirmed Dublin and Bilbao would step down as host cities.

With Gareth Southgate’s side set to play their three group matches at home, the decision to switch a last-16 tie on 29 June from Dublin to London means England would face the runners-up in Group F, which includes Germany, Portugal and France, at Wembley if they win Group D. Any quarter-final would be away from Wembley, which is due to host the semi-finals and final.

“We’re delighted to be able to help Uefa in staging the extra game,” said the Football Association’s chief executive, Mark Bullingham. “They asked us a couple of weeks ago whether we would be able to help out and we also liaised with the Irish FA to see if they were comfortable, which they were. It’s an incredibly tough route to the final for us but this gives an opportunity for the Three Lions to play another game at home, which is obviously brilliant.”

Seville will step in to host all of Spain’s group matches and a last-16 tie. The group games scheduled for Dublin are moving to St Petersburg, meaning the Russian venue has seven fixtures. Munich will retain its three group fixtures and quarter-final after presenting a plan to allow at least 14,500 fans into the 75,000-capacity Allianz Arena.

Dublin and Bilbao have lost hosting right after being unable to offer Uefa the fan guarantees needed. The German football federation agreed a plan for Munich despite rising infection numbers in the country.

Uefa said tickets for matches in Bilbao and Dublin would be cancelled and refunded, and ticket buyers would receive priority access to tickets in the reassigned venues. It said the Andalusian regional authorities had told it the venue in Seville – Estadio La Cartuja stadium – would be at 30% capacity.

It is understood the FA also put forward Newcastle’s St James’ Park as a venue to host extra games but was not taken up on its offer. Manchester United and Manchester City are believed to have rejected the opportunity for their stadiums to be put forward but the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is understood never to have come under consideration because the government favoured a venue in a “northern powerhouse” city if Wembley were not used.

Posted by: PeteFromLeeds 23rd April 2021, 09:05 PM

Shame we didn't get a game up north tongue.gif Although it doesn't really make a difference for me where the games are hosted, it is a shame that some cities have had to step down though.

Posted by: Mack. 23rd April 2021, 10:31 PM

Big shame for Dublin and Bilbao, be a long time that they'll be a venue for an international tournament.

The squad size has been increased to 26. As players are likely to be even more tired than normal for an international tournament, that makes sense.

And we can finally stop all this nonsense media talk of mount vs maddison and just take both!

And we can finally stop all this nonsense media talk of mount vs maddison and just take both!

There were some rumours going around a few weeks ago that it was England and Germany that were against the larger squads, primarily because 3-5 players of the 23 man squad barely play anyway and it can effect squad harmony. I'd like us to take an extra midfielder who can play in the "two" rather than an attacking one, otherwise Phillips, Bellingham and an unfit Rice & Henderson is asking for trouble.

Posted by: steve201 28th April 2021, 11:30 AM

Madisson will be injured imo, seems to be quite injury prone!

Posted by: Dobbo. 28th April 2021, 12:18 PM

He's back now and actually has a better track record than Grealish. If they're all fit they all go no question.

Posted by: steve201 28th April 2021, 05:10 PM

Yeh don’t get me wrong out of Mount, Grealish and him I think he is the best player.

Posted by: RabbitFurCoat 28th April 2021, 05:51 PM

The additional room means you can leave out less good but versatile players in favour of two specialists. Taking Eric Dier makes far more sense in a 23 than in a 26 when you can take a centre half and a midfielder instead of one backup who can do both

Posted by: Dobbo. 28th April 2021, 07:08 PM

Dier is dreadful but he'll be in the squad no doubt. Bit of credit in the bank for England too much like Pickford.
