96. Pixie Lott - Caravan Of Love 139. Pixie Lott - Caravan Of Love
I really hope this manages to go top #40. I'm expecting the music video to debut within the next week. It's absolutely incredible. I hope she has good enough promotion! A performance on Strictly could really help her at least get a top #20 with Platinum Pixie.
Posted by: Neil. S Nov 2 2014, 12:14 AM
Jokes aside, She'll go top 20 with Platinum Pixie as Pre-orders have been surprisingly stable and should continue to climb. Fingers crossed Caravan of Love does something, it's quite christmassy so that's an advantage for sure
Posted by: { bré } Nov 2 2014, 12:16 AM
I haven't heard Pixie's version but 'Caravan Of Love' is a great song so quite pleasing to see it in the chart in any form. Doing better than I'd have expected TBH.
Posted by: girl_from_oz Nov 2 2014, 12:18 AM
Graham Norton's vocal guest on Friday is Annie Lennox I think (Shirley Bassey also on the show but prob just talking to her), Jools Holland has Bryan Ferry and Paul Rodgers on, can't remember who else
Posted by: Ryan. Nov 2 2014, 12:19 AM
If the Matalan advert gets regular plays on TV then there's no reason why 'Caravan Of Love' won't keep climbing and be at least a top 40 hit which will be great for Pixie as well as the Charity the advert and the song are raising money for!
Posted by: ▬Mart!n's Ratτ Nov 2 2014, 12:20 AM
Musical guests added, hopefully London Grammar's album will probably do a U-turn after their earlier performance on Jonathan Ross.
Pixie Lott's Caravan Of Love is available on Amazon
Really liked Pixie's cover, I've just bought it! (Not even bought Cheryl yet )

If only 'Caravan Of Love' was on the John Lewis advert!
I wonder if Radio 2 / Heart will playlist it?
Posted by: Neil. S Nov 2 2014, 12:34 AM
It's something Heart would eat up. Not sure about BBC for now though
Now #90

Cheryl's song is really not very good, the chorus and particular the swearing in it makes me cringe. Yawn @ it inevitably going to number 1

Agreed, but I also kind of want it to get to #1 so the record for British female solo artist with most #1s will finally be broken not tied (I think Cheryl, Rita Ora and Geri Haliwell are tied on 4 atm, although I'm sure Jessie J/maybe Pixie Lott/Leona will also tie that in the future and might go on to get 5+ too).

I Don't Care is far from Cheryl's best (I'm already tiring of it to be honest), but it's harmless and catchy enough. This opinion will surprise probably nobody, but Stay is AWFUL. Just another hideously boring dance song with a sample that falls well short of the original....

Cheryl release week tradition - someone being absolutely confident she won't be #1 and ultimately being wrong. She has two versions top 20 plus an X Factor performance still to come. She'll sail there, especially as this had way less competition than CSL had.

oh Dennis. by now you (and everyone) should know that if when it comes to a brand new (held-back) single release from Cheryl Cole, it *WILL* go to #1 regardless of how 'good' the song is, or whatever logic/pre-orders etc. tell you. (but i'm sure once that pie hits your face, this realisation will also hit you like a ton of bricks x)

Time to update my Reasons why Cheryl should be #1 this week list
1. Thinking Out Loud is awful and doesn't deserve #1 2. Cheryl will have the record for most UK #1s as a solo British female 3. It'll make her have more #1s as a solo artist than with Girls Aloud 4. I Don't Care is literally 1000x better than Thinking Out Loud 5. We'll get to see dennispennis123 with pie in his face

Ha what a flop!
Knew she wouldn't challenge for no.1 with that auto-tuned DIRGE!
Anyway, can't believe that novelty song about being chubby got to no.1 ... and for 4 weeks :/ Where is the taste gone? :/
How did the Halloween songs fare this year, did they breach the top 100 or was it more a case of people using Spotify and playlists and youtube like at my party on Fri?
Posted by: JoesephJSG'sDog Nov 2 2014, 01:16 PM

All a number one means is that a song sold more than any other in a given week - what's more impressive is overall sales totals and the song's lasting 'IMPAKT!!
For example Thriller FALOPPED at like no.11 or something and yet is played EEEVERY Halloween at nearly every party around the world!

Just because it's front-loaded it doesn't mean it can't be number 1. Crazy Stupid Love was hugely front loaded and fell from itunes #1 mid week, but still went to number 1 with a great lead.

It should be on ~135k-140k I think, so it'll need to sell another 60k or so which I think is doable over the next 7-8 weeks. Especially now that streaming is a part of the charts (and also counted to certifications right?).

I've always seen Dark Horse as a halloween song - it was out around last Halloween. It has quite a spooky beat and includes lyrics like 'dark,' 'madness', 'play with magic', 'perfect storm.' And also references the infamous Jeffery Dahrmer - one of the scariest serial killers of all time.
I think it was always intended as a spooky song - just see the Grammys performance - vimeo.com/m/85118070
I was quite disappointed when she changed its theme to Egyptian for the video.

I actually prefer the clean version of I Don't Care. The swearing in the chorus feels out of place in a Cheryl song (especially one as poppy if not bubblegum poppy as this). This coming from someone who played anaconda to death (but you expect a lot of swearing with Nicki and it fits the music).

However on 27 September 2013, Drake had 'Hold On (We're Going Home)' at #6 and #11. Not sure whether the second version ever made the Top 10 for a short while.
Songs that I think were in the top 10 twice at the same time:
Katy Perry - Teenage Dream 50 Cent - My Life Emeli Sande - Next To Me Adele - Someone Like You Adele - Rolling in the Deep (I think) PSY - Gangnam Style Leona Lewis - Bleeding Love (not 100% sure about this one either) I know there must me more that I've forgotten about/can't remember atm.
Also sometimes two different versions of the same song are top 10 together too:
Don't Stop Believin (Journey and Glee Cast) Empire State Of Mind (Jay-Z and Alicia Keys) You've Got the (Dirtee) Love (Florence + The Machine and Dizzee Rascal) Levels/Good Feeling (Avicii and Flo Rida, not really the same song, but still notable) When We Collide/Many Of Horror (Matt Cardle and Biffy Clyro) Hallelujah I think had two different versions top 10 on iTunes together too? Payphone (Maroon 5 and Precision Tunes or Big Hits 2012?) Prayer in C?

'Bonkers' also had 2 versions top 10 briefly (as one version was deleted and then quickly re-added). Also 'Price Tag' if that hasn't been mentioned yet.

Crazy Stupid Love was b-list for release week also! Radio 1 seem kinda reluctant to support Cheryl properly for whatever reason, not as if she fails to get hits.

I agree if he had performed another track of the album and it impacted on the public he could have got radio to support another single of the album and therefore more album sales!

I've just missed the hype around it that's always been there in spades for her previous four #1's. And last week the pre-order seemed to be dipping in and out of the top 100, I thought CSL had been steadily top 50/60 and up to top 30 just before it was released?
Good for her though, I'd rather she have the record than Geri Halliwell or Rita Ora.

Some qualities Cheryl has that she can sing, dance, be part of one of the biggest ever girl groups, make great songs, fight for this love, promise this and I'll be here forever if I list all the reasons

Depends what you deem "good singer" as. Cheryl can sing well, she can hold a note, she's not exactly Whitney or Mariah though but she's never claimed to be. She's a girl group member gone solo.

I've only heard the Only Human acoustic because it's an amazing song. And it was a shaky vocal, but she did an ok job I guess.

Cheryl on tour with Girls Aloud was most consistent vocally than Sarah and Kimberley... There are 5 whole tours that confirm it.
It's true that smoking is not helping her at all and she should quit it asap because her problem is not from her vocal chords but how little air she can keep in her lungs...

Need You Now with Gary Barlow.
I could name more but it's not as though I keep a log of Cheryl live performances. She does not have a strong voice, it's clearly an average voice. That doesn't take anything away from the rest of her music, her perfomance skills, the marketing etc whatever. She just has an everyday voice, like other superstars have done before her and will after.
Posted by: Aphrodite Nov 3 2014, 01:55 AM
Cheryl singing live is rare and i havnt seen a live performance from her that sells her as a good singer. Best of luck to her, i know there are many artists around who dont have the best voices but have excellent performance skills, excellent song writers, strong marketing campaigns etc. The issue i have which i have seen a few people comment on over on other sites is when you are a judge on a singing competition programme its a bit ironic you take to the stage and mime.
John Legend sang brilliantly but i loved all of me, i like it anyway but that live vocal was excellent. I do think he should have sang a new song off the album instead of ordinary people to try and get another hit but i suspect he was going for ticket and album sales. With a tour coming up and a new version of his album coming out he may have made the right decision. Great to see all of me back in the top 6 on itunes id love a top 10 return this week.

LOLz at all the pro- and anti- Cheryl posting again and again and again the same old videos everytime she releases a new single. After 6 years of solo Cheryl, surely everyone has had time to make one's own opinion about her. There's no point in trying to convince onthers she is either AWFUL or AMAZING, as I don't think anyone will change one's mind anyway. I love her so much, but if someone else doesn't, that's pretty fine as long as it's respectful.
Anyway, she's #1 and #4 this morning and still in green. "Thinking out loud" is gaining ground but the explicit version is gaining as well. I wonder at what point the explicit version will overtake the clean version...

It's odd how Olly's instant grats are doing so amazing, but 'Wrapped Up' is yet to make the top 100 on pre-orders? Is he going to be an "albums artist" more than both, now? All his singles have done just as well as his albums, but atm although it's had a very nice increase in pre-orders, WU hasn't got anywhere near as high as I thought it would do! I'm sure he'll get top 5, but it's still a bit saddening to see the single seemingly "struggling" on pre-orders by his standards.

The publicity and hype behind a possible Band Aid 30 would be greater than God Only Knows.
I'm sure it would but I don't know if it would be big enough to deny the XF winner the #1.
There's also that charity cover of 'Say Something' coming out (which again I'm not sure is going to be that massive but will probably be at least top 10). Lots of covers in the Christmas top 10 it seems.

RE John Lewis Xmas Song - I dont think they confirm it until the last minute. Last year the song was put on utube on the friday before it was premiered during the following nights XF!
Posted by: { bré } Nov 3 2014, 03:30 PM
If they're following the same schedule as last year we should get the John Lewis announcement later this week and the song should be released next week. If it really is Ed Sheeran then he may replicate Dizzee Rascal's two #1s in 3 weeks from 2010.

Plus they usually release Band Aid in the first week of December and in 2004 CDs sold enough for it to sustain its sales through to xmas week whereas with downloads it might be different?!

Last year they premiered it on Friday 7th on YouTube and it received its first TV play during The X Factor on Saturday 8th. There wasn't any confirmation before of the song or artist as far as I can remember.

At any rate if it is Ed it will surely storm to No1 due to the artist and stay in the top 5 until the end of december. If its an artist that isnt as high profile it might not do as well - it all depends on the song though as with the success of the unknown Gab Aplin in 2012 with the Power of Love

Doubt it takes that long to do. All Bob Geldof done for the original was tell the artists he's recording it on this date and whoever turned up got a feature on the record, whoever didn't turn up didn't. Im not sure how he organised the 2004 one.

Really willing this to be a top 10 for them!
Should be possible, it's been consistently top 200 mostly on pre-orders for around a month and should gather more as the week goes on.

Maybe it will have a similar chart run to Untouched? Doesn't seem out of the realms of possibility...
Posted by: Rooney Nov 3 2014, 05:24 PM
I'm fairly sure for Ban Aid 20, it was announced, then it was further announced what date they were recording, then everyone just turned up and did their parts and shot a few bits for the video. Though in the age of social media, that may be more difficult.
Posted by: Rob S Nov 3 2014, 05:44 PM
I'm thinking with streaming included obviously that "You Ruin Me" will peak at #13 next week. It might perform well on streaming though so can't count top 10 out just yet but seems pretty unlikely!
Posted by: mr_aly Nov 3 2014, 05:59 PM
I hoped with how the pre-order had been performing that even top 5 would be a possibility, but it has kind of stabilised without progressing higher than 170ish the whole time. I'm still pleased either way, such a huge fan and I never thought they'd be in contention for a top 10 hit ever again.

I could see the explicit version of 'I Don't Care' rapidly overtaking the clean one once it falls off #1.

I am not to worried for Cheryl.
She is outselling Ed by 1.45 on iTunes right now. Basically, outselling Ed by 1.2 is enough for her to overtake both his sales and his streaming. So even if she drastically falls today, it will take some time for her to drop under that 1.2 ratio and even after that, if will take even longer for Ed to bridge the gap Cheryl has made on Sunday+Monday. Especially since the explicit version is still gaining.
Can't wait for today's midweek though!

New kworb update in and Ed is 74,4% on Cheryl (so he won like 0,5% or something)!
The explicit version is close to gaining as much as the clean version is losing this time.

Ed is outselling her on Amazon MP3 (#2 & #25 compared to #4 & #43), so once you include that and Ed's higher streaming, I think it's quite close at the moment.
P.S: Ed is also at #3, #39 & #65 on 7digital and Cheryl #41, so he's also outselling her there which'll close the gap even more.

Cheryl in the top three twice with the same song When will Beyonce or Rihanna?
When they pull off as sneaky a strategy as putting up a pre-order for a less popular version of one of their songs perhaps I really can't see why Cheryl's label would put the pre-order for the clean version apart from trying to trick people into buying it twice when they otherwise wouldn't have done so (of course the loons would do that anyway but still). The whole swearing in the chorus thing always seemed like a bit of a cynical ploy for attention in itself, no better than something like 'Loca People'. It sounds extremely out of place but it grabs the ear and gets people talking about what is in every other regard an extremely uninteresting song ~

Isn't it too late for Band Aid now? To get all the acts they want to record parts of a song, produce it, make physical copies etc etc? Seems like they are leaving themselves a lot to do in a month
QUOTE(gavindeejay @ Nov 3 2014, 03:55 PM)
Doubt it takes that long to do. All Bob Geldof done for the original was tell the artists he's recording it on this date and whoever turned up got a feature on the record, whoever didn't turn up didn't. Im not sure how he organised the 2004 one.
I don't think anyone else commented on this. The 1984 version wasn't recorded until 25th November and was released 4 days later. The 1989 version was very spur of the moment, with the idea occurring on 1st December, the recording taking place on 3rd Dec & released on 11th Dec. Band Aid 20 was recorded relatively earlier (14th November 2004) and was released on 29th November.
So if Band Aid 30 is being thought about now, there's definitely enough time for it to happen!

So far Cheryl is following the exact same pattern than she was against MAGIC!. Ed is 81,8% on "I don't care" and MAGIC! were 82,4% on "Crazy stupid love" at the exact same time during release week. And she ended up with a very nice lead in the charts over MAGIC!, so hopefully it happens again.
And today's midweeks were probably missing sales from the explicit version.

Cheryl's lead will grow for tomorrow's update or maybe Thursday's update. I don't think the explicit version was selling that much on Sunday but now, seeing both versions are at No.2 and No.3 the lead will only grow from now on.

Since Wham manage to usually sneak into the top 40 usually, and how the Pogues usually manage top 20, it's looking very good for Leona re-entering the top 40 at the moment. But it all depends how she does post-bonfire night when songs will surely jump.
