Former Liverpool captain Tommy Smith, who helped the club to domestic and European success in the 1960s and 1970s, has died aged 74.

Known as the "Anfield Iron", Smith had an 18-year career at Anfield, during which he won four league titles.

He scored in the 1977 European Cup final as Liverpool beat Borussia Monchengladbach 3-1 to win the trophy for the first time.

Lauda was one of the all time greatest drivers and a huge personality in the sport. We will not see his like again. Genuinely saddened by this.

Only heard about the news from an notification on my tablet, got woken up by it

QUOTE
"He suffered third-degree burns and yet returned to racing 40 days later

Niki Lauda was undoubtedly the bravest man in F1, to return to racing 40 days later after that horrific crash at the old Nurburgring in 1976 is nothing short of remarkable. I'm sure most of you will have seen the 2013 film 'Rush' which focused on that 1976 F1 season between him and James Hunt. Lauda also produced two of the greatest comebacks in F1 by winning the title the following year, and returning from a two-year absence, seven years after winning his world title to win his third in 1984 by a half a point from Alain Prost, the closet ever margin in F1. He is one of the F1 greats.

I highly recommend that you see 'Rush' the 2013 film that focused on the Hunt-Lauda rivalry, that really did focus on the rivalry very well.

RIP to an icon of the sport. One of the very greatest talents ever seen or we will ever see.

Rush is my favourite film of all time.

R.I.P Jose Antonio Reyes. A member of probably Arsenal's best ever squad. There was a really good goal he scored against Middlesbrough that always comes to mind whenever I remember him.

Former Uefa president Lennart Johansson, who oversaw the introduction of the Champions League, has died aged 89 following a short illness.

Johansson headed European football's governing body from 1990 to 2007 before being succeeded by Michel Platini.

He led the change from the European Cup to the Champions League in 1992, with multiple entries from some countries.

I haven't seen it but it's being shown on Film 4 tonight at 1.05am. I'll record it and watch it when I have the time.
