Such amazing news dance.gif But only six dates. I'm so worried I won't get tickets! cry.gif

Posted by: MazSpice 5th November 2018, 03:45 PM

I'm sure more dates will released.

Posted by: jakewild 5th November 2018, 03:52 PM

YESSSSSSSS

(but jess glynne tho 👀)

Posted by: cattyspice 5th November 2018, 04:05 PM

This is good news but they aren’t trending in Twitter... not yet.

Posted by: Mr.X 5th November 2018, 04:29 PM

I'm actually really surprised about how this has been rolled out. The video is cute but a bit meh and I am surprised that it didnt trend - at all - on twitter so far. Not even in the UK only.

But maybe as the day goes by? Here's hoping.

Jess Glyne is annoying!!

BUT I AM HAPPY THEY ARE BACK ANYWAY. Was hoping for a revamp of their website and some info on re-release of GH, etc, but hopefully more will come.

Seems a bit silly not to have more dates already at least announced in USA. Oh well...

Posted by: Buttered Muffin 5th November 2018, 04:41 PM

Why Sunderland and not Newcastle?

It has made no impression on Twitter sad.gif They shouldn't have tried to take on a Westshite comeback tbh

Posted by: Michael Andrew 5th November 2018, 04:50 PM

I've watched the video so many times.

Reading the ticker tape along the bottom, I see references to 'Bag It Up' and 'Never Be The Same Again'. I wonder if they will be performed wub.gif

Posted by: Lukuzz 5th November 2018, 04:52 PM

Cannot wait! Hoping getting tickets won’t be too stressful. Saturday release a good idea

Posted by: Neil 5th November 2018, 05:50 PM

Do we know how much tickets will cost yet?

Posted by: Jade 5th November 2018, 06:26 PM

EEP, just saw this on the news and got SO excited wub.gif have been waiting 10 years to see them, I think I've mentioned this on here before but I got into their music less than a year after the Return of the Spice Girls tour concluded which was really unfortunate! Bring it on, will most likely be trying for Wembley.

Posted by: Jack 5th November 2018, 10:38 PM

This all feels very muted, there doesn't seem to be that much hype from anyone? Will be interesting to see if they sell out or not. I hope ticket prices aren't crazy, the AUDACITY of adding Jess Glynne on there is enough!

Posted by: Mr.X 5th November 2018, 10:53 PM

Oh GOD Jess is horrible...

Im hoping they sell well though. A shame that it doesnt seem to be picking up a lot of momentum online though.

Victoria's message was cute wub.gif

Posted by: SGrey 6th November 2018, 06:39 AM

I can’t remember where I read it but they’re supposedly teaming with Twickets so there is always a chance of reasonable resale purchase!

Posted by: Buttered Muffin 6th November 2018, 10:27 AM

I think people are only interested if all 5 are there. Also, again, Shitelife are back and people are falling into some stupif tribal pop war thing again

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 6th November 2018, 12:38 PM

Will they cope going on tour without their backing dancer?

Posted by: Mikee1981 6th November 2018, 12:47 PM

I'd of been more interested if it wasn't stadiums, I generally don't like them I think they take away from atmosphere. I saw the girls in 2007 at 02 so I wont bother with this

Posted by: Jay ☆ 6th November 2018, 04:25 PM

I think some of you are underestimating the demand/impact. In less than 24 hours, their tour announcement video achieved over 7 million views across Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube!

Some of the capacities of the stadiums they've announced aren't too large, and it's only six overall dates so far, so even though "stadiums" sounds quite grand, they're still playing it somewhat safe to begin with. Overall there'll be significantly less tickets available on Saturday than the number of tickets they sold for Return of the Spice Girls in the UK across twenty dates. I could actually see them adding on dates.

Posted by: MazSpice 7th November 2018, 12:11 PM

Geri said in the BBC Radio 2 interview the tour is called Welcome To Spiceworld.

Can anyone confirm the difference between getting Golden Circle and Golden Circle VIP?

Please help. Thank you. unsure.gif

I think it's literally that VIP includes bits of merchandise too, nothing extra. A bit of a rip off, if you ask me!

I think my preference is Gigs and Tours out of the two. There's something about Ticketmaster's layout that makes me need to think for a few precious seconds longer about what I'm doing lol. Gigs and Tours looks a little more straight forward to me.

So guys - I really wanna go for Wembley BUT it's a Saturday & Westlife are performing at the o2 the same night - hotels are gonna be massive expensive - What are the odds that they WILL add more Wembley dates? I don't wanna not book and risk my seats..but if they do add more..it will end up being a weekday and i will probably end up getting a better seat due to less demand that the first show. Aeghhh. Help. Seriously. Choices cry.gif

The will def add more wembley dates. Probably the friday before .

Layouts have been posted for Coventry, Sunderland and Wembley:

Coventry

Sunderland

Wembley

I'm assuming that Wembley's mock-up is generic and will in actuality be more along the lines of Coventry/Sunderland with the small circular enclosure for the Spice/Gold Circle.

I'll definitely be trying! I'm hoping for Coventry and Wembley. I can certainly see Wembley being extremely difficult cry.gif

It seems that they may have two more Wembley dates pencilled in... someone on DenDen 2.0 Facebook page said: "My friend is a promoter for Etihad so I have managed to get tickets a day early. He said they are down to do 2/3 more dates at each venue depending on the sales of the original shows x". So biding your time for a different Wembley date could pay off!

Yeah Wembley is what I'm hoping for - but i'm travelling from Cardiff, and it's on A Saturday on the same night Westlife are at the 02 - the hotel prices are gonna be shit-your-pants crazy, plus the demand obviously seems pretty big so i probably wouldn't get as good seats then if i wait for more dates. But it's not a guarantee and I will be DEVASTATED if i didn't get to go because of a bad judgement call cry.gif

Posted by: Mr.X 21st November 2018, 05:19 PM

9 dates are sold out, the others are not - you can clearly see that on the ticket pages. BUT that's ok! Stadiums, traditionally, take much longer to sell out, they are just much bigger spaces and they released the dates staggered. They will all be packed by the time the shows come up, worry not! x

Posted by: Alex! 21st November 2018, 06:35 PM

On Ticketmaster, all the tickets left at Sunderland are just VIP, theres only about 20 left altogether so nearly!

Posted by: Mr.X 21st November 2018, 06:51 PM

Yeah I woudnt worry at all. Even Cardiff, which is their second biggest UK Stadium and released at a later date, is almost sold out with only 300 tickets available on Ticketmaster and the whole of the pitch standing and level 1 seated sold out on GigsandTours so I would imagine that they only have few amounts of tickets left to sell...

Also, they woudnt be adding more dates in places they didnt announce first now if they didnt have the demand. Again, STADIUMS are incredibly hard to sell, and they have been doing amazingly well, better than any of us expected!!

Lets see how the Dublin show sells. That would be fun x

Posted by: Alex! 21st November 2018, 07:11 PM

Yes! also, everyone played it down and said they wouldn't sell out as fast without Victoria. It's been a massive success already, I can't wait to see them finally!!

They have sold over 700k tickets and I'm sure tomorrow after Dublin that will be over 800k. They have a 2nd date on hold in Dublin if the first sells out quickly. If they do both Dublin shows and sell everything out they will be looking at over 900k tickets sold.

Posted by: Mr.X 21st November 2018, 11:52 PM

That would be quite incredible! I think we will only get one Dublin date though. Like the Wales one, if it packs out in the next couple weeks they might announce another (there's room in the schedule). But somehow I dont seen Dublin needing another date... But then again, I doubted they would sell out these many shows so quickly and they have soo....

Impressive they sold out Croker. Now just get the 3 dates not sold out last tickets shifted and a 13 date sell out stadium tour sounds brilliant.

I really hope they take this tour world wide it could be one of the highest grossing tours by a female artist and for sure the highest grossing tour by a girl group if they did.

Alright, Spice Girls creative team. Here's my idea. You can pay me in a trip to London and tickets to one of the shows.

Start the show off with a video of Richard E. Grant impatiently waiting for the girls at the venue. "Did one of their friends have another damn baby?!"

Cut to Victoria weaving through city traffic in the Spice bus, carrying the other four in tow. Maybe they're inside. Maybe they're on the roof. I don't know. Whatever.

They pull up.

"Victoria, you coming?"

"I'm right behind you! I've just got to park this thing."

The other four girls go ahead. Perform the show.

During costume changes, we get videos of Victoria stuck in traffic...driving through a lot looking for a spot...trying to parallel park the Spice bus...etc.

There you have it.

I had a similar idea love it!

If the girls are not planning to do anything further I think this would be a great idea or something along this lines as Victoria can still be somewhat involved then and surely can't say no to that as she claims it's just the performing she no longer wants to do.

If the girls are planning to keep going as in release a new album etc, then it's best to steer clear of Victoria and take the time to establish themselves as a 4 piece.

I wouldnt mind a megamix of the main solo singles (1 per solo girl) but honestly I cant be arsed with full on solo moments. I think it is a bit pointless and they should concentrate on the group stuff - go into the albums and bring some album tracks back!

Posted by: Spiceboy 22nd December 2018, 09:02 PM

I don't mind either way. If we get a solo track each (has to be a big hit otherwise will be like tumbleweed) then cool, if not I can live without it. I do not want any celebration medley rubbish or covers though...

What Took You So Long, Bag It Up or Mi Chico Latino, Never Be the Same Again and I Want You Back would be interesting.

All number 1 hits and different from the last tour.

Interesting reading, even if I do not know how true it can be ... given the reference to Last Time Lover I think it could be part of the setlist ... we can probably listen to the 13 singles, the never played Last Time Lover, the missed single NGUOTGT, (I hope) a new song, a solo song for each girl (including probably the new singles of Emma and Melanie C) ... we already have 20 songs at this point ... we'll see ...

Between £65 (like, at the very back of the stadium lol) and £300 I think.

the most amount of tickets were those at £82 (inc booking fee) which was standing pitch.

Honestly, I'm not sure what lyrics could be updated for political correctness and inclusion. The only line that could really be updated was already taken care of in 1996...when they replaced the "boys and girls go good together" in 2 Become 1. Other than that...their lyrics were already pretty progressive...very pro-woman.

10 weeks to go! ohmy.gif cheer.gif

A couple of recent Emma interviews have raised the subject of solo songs on tour & suggesting they do a medley of them. Emma's said both times that it's not planned / there wouldn't be room for them. How do you guys feel about this? I honestly don't think I'd miss a solo section. Their last tour essentially paid dust to their album tracks, and I'd love for them to do a lot of them this time around.

Posted by: sammy01 14th March 2019, 10:43 PM

No solos is fine by me, they have 13 singles (I thought they might drop LLLTW) but Emma has mentioned it twice recently. So if we think 20 song set list then 5 or 6 album tracks and a cover or 2.

I'd like Last time lover, If you cant dance, Never give up on the good times, Do it and If you wanna have some fun as the album tracks.

Their singles is kinda ballad heavy so these upbeat album tracks would be perfect.

Posted by: Spiceboy 14th March 2019, 11:03 PM

I don't mind solo's as long as they do their own songs:
- I turn to you
- Mi chico latino
- What took you so long
- I want you back

These would all be good performances and were all big enough song that they would go down well with the audience.

I really really really do not want any covers, seriously have no time for them. Yes We are family and Sisters was quite nice back in the 90's but the celebration medley was horrendous and they have enough fantastic singles, albums (and solo tracks) that they do not need any covers.

Out of the album tracks I'd like
- Love thing
- Something kinda fuuny
- If you can't dance
- Saturday night divas
- Do it
- Never give up on the good times

They can give The lady is a vamp a rest this time (despite how fabulous it is) as they did it on the Reunion tour.

Posted by: adancing 15th March 2019, 11:36 AM

Yes Do it and Love thing pleaseeee
Last Time lover would be cool too...
I will be there on the 14th in the circle just in front! Can't wait smile.gif

Posted by: SouthernStar88 15th March 2019, 07:22 PM

For me it wouldn't be a problem if they won't perform solo songs….
I just hope that won't be covers or medley...
The 13 singles, 1 new song and 6 full (not medley) album tracks would be perfect for me...

Posted by: Maz! 17th March 2019, 06:38 PM

Can't wait to hear some of the album tracks , (hoping and expecting to get tickets for my birthday after my cousin keeps teasing)

Posted by: Jay ☆ 17th March 2019, 06:40 PM

Need performances of:

Love Thing
Last Time Lover (I can't quite picture it, but it deserves to be performed for the first time ever)
If U Can't Dance
Saturday Night Divas
Never Give Up on the Good Times
Move Over
Step to Me
Denying (can't see this one either, but it's a personal favourite)

Surely Never Give Up On the Good Times is a certainty if it's 12 singles and no solos. It's surely the highlight and overall fan fave of the non singles discography.

I'd love them to do Naked from Spice aswell it's a deep credible tune that needs a new lease of life to their grown up audience.

I'd love for that to be the case...but they generally seem unaware (apathetic?) to the fan obsessions. Case in point...the fans ramble in circles about a studio version of W.O.M.A.N. for what feels like a generation...and it barely seems to register with the group that they once recorded a song called W.O.M.A.N.

But. Y'know. At least one of them hasn't tried to claim it's on their first album or something?

Posted by: sammy01 24th March 2019, 02:48 PM

The Wembley final date is being filmed. This day and age though it is more profitable to then sell it to Netflix to be streamed than to release it on DVD and sell a few thousand copies.

I'd expect it to be a Netflix exclusive for a couple of months around Xmas then get a DVD release for hardcore fans to own.

Jerry Springer crossed with Days of our lives.
Emma could be a UN peace keeper or ambassador.
I wonder what Mel C eats for breakfast to give her energy and nutrients?

I love the black spice world hoodie, will defo get one.

I totally understand the logic of using 90s pics and or being retro stuff, 2019 pics would look odd and the majority of people going are going for a trip down memory lane.

I also assume this is just the clothes added now so people can order them before the gigs.

It's all about the Spice World logo tees for me! Gonna cut the sleeves off one a la Sporty Spice.

Posted by: Spice Girls Net 26th April 2019, 04:35 PM

I like the SPICEWORLD hoodies.

They are shipping to over 60 countries worldwide except for the whole of South America which is strange. The only country they are shipping to in Central America is Costa Rica.

They are also shipping to the UK, Ireland, Europe, Asia, Aus & NZ etc.

Emma had mentioned this on Sunday Brunch recently that because they'd already planned and choreographed the show that there was basically no chance of Victoria appearing.

When are we likely to be able to get the e-tickets? I know it's a while off but I want to get mine ready!

Posted by: Spice Girls Net 28th April 2019, 11:17 AM

Victoria’s reps have denied this, which is good because I’m going June 13/15th and not the 14th lol plus it’s not fair on the fans who’ve got tickets for the other shows. Vic’s either in or out and she chose not to take part.

Posted by: Mr.X 28th April 2019, 12:10 PM

Please stop sharing crap like this... I keep getting friends asking me the same thing over and over again about this and the fake 'tour is cancelled' bullshit. It is so tiring and it doesnt help if fans keep sharing lies.

Unless it comes from the girls themselves, please treat it with a pinch of salt and think before sharing this crap.

Posted by: jakewild 28th April 2019, 12:13 PM

she's not gonna admit to joining them for one night even if she does plan to. that's the whole point of the surprise.

i reckon she'll come on during one song at wembley. possibly to parody herself a bit during 2 become 1 maybe and do a bit of ott pointing.

Posted by: Spiceboy 28th April 2019, 12:47 PM

I can only see her joining them if there is a DVD released tbh. Perhaps a walk on for Wannabe without a dance routine as she doesn't have to do anything she only sings in the chorus and ("are you for real")

Posted by: Mr.X 28th April 2019, 01:14 PM

rolleyes.gif

Glad to see Spice fans keep loving to be in denial. Nothing ever changes hey?!...

It's not gonna happen. There is no 'surprise' appearance. For many reasons, but consider this: if Victoria shows up even for ONE second on stage, the whole focus from the press, the fans, the media, everyone, will be on that specific moment. Not on how good/bad the 4some are. Not on how amazing or bad the show itself is, or if there is a DVD or if they will do any more music. It will be about that one moment and nothing else.

And that seems completely antithetic to what they are doing. They do not hide that Victoria was a part of the Spice Girls but she is not a performing Spice Girl anymore and they have - ALL OF THEM - said that she wont turn up.

If it was to be a surprise, they would all be quiet about it.

Posted by: Mr.X 28th April 2019, 01:16 PM

Also, there will be already A LOT of focus pulled from the show when Victoria shows up to watch it. That's enough. Anything else will be a shame as it will damage the potential for the 4some to carry on touring/doing work beyond this tour, as people and the press will continue to expect Victoria to join them.

Let's get over it, shall we?

Dreaming is nice, but we have to understand reality and its consequences...

Posted by: sammy01 28th April 2019, 04:14 PM

I don't want VB on stage, these 4 have sold the tickets and deserve all the attention. They look and feel right as a 4 piece right now.

The girls have to be very careful to not ignore Victoria and her past contribution to the band. Things like her own tshirt are nice ways of doing this.

If the annimated movie is going ahead and Victoria is involved then I'm sure they want to keep her as feeling part of the band.

Posted by: jakewild 28th April 2019, 04:23 PM

i must admit that without posh (and her being my 2nd fav spice) it does feel like the only line up that actually would work with 1 missing. any other member gone would feel like a huge gap. vicky has her own entity now so it doesn't feel like such a loss. and you can tell by the rehearsal images and videos that the remaining 4 are giving it their absolute all to make sure it's right. roll on 1st june i cant wait!

No. Bought mine from Gigs and Tours too. Still nothing available to download. drama.gif

Posted by: Spiceboy 28th April 2019, 10:42 PM

I personally don't even want Victoria there anymore. She is either all in for the tour or not at all. If she wants to do other bits and pieces with them then fair enough, but even then I'm not really sure. The girls should take the time to establish themselves as a foursome and decide whether they want to continue further after this tour. New music would be a dream but I can't see it sadly. Just imagine if they surprised us all with a new album this Christmas wub.gif wub.gif wub.gif

Posted by: schizo_spice 28th April 2019, 10:47 PM

If they stay together as this four piece after the tour they simply need to record new music as they can't keep dining out on Spice, Spiceworld and bits of Forever.

The sad thing is they could so easily record another great album All Saints and Steps did. I don't know why they didn't have at least a new single out in time for this tour it's madness.

Tbf a new single is going to do nothing for them, if they manage a cracking one at most it is going to perform like Westlife's new one and add to their tally of top 20 hits. No point doing a single unless it's to promote an album, which would easily be a contender for #1...

I can't see them ever touring outside the UK again now three of them have children who go to school in the UK.

Posted by: Aussie 3rd May 2019, 12:27 PM

Wait, what? My ears prick up, being the resident Australian on here. What's the name of the radio station? That apparent prize wouldn't include travel costs. I live interstate, away from Melbourne, Victoria.

When Emma had that live Q and A session online on the day her new album was released, she replied to a question from an Australian fan, that: "I love Australia, I'm hoping to go to there very soon." I assume she was being polite. But yes, an overseas tour during British school holidays - late 2019, or some time in 2020? There's no great likelihood of it happening.

I'm on Ticketmaster's notification list anyway.

They were on at 8.35pm last night and finished just before 10.30pm, so roughly 2 hours.

Posted by: vibe 25th May 2019, 02:46 PM

2 hour show without solo numbers that is a surprise.

So they’ve just released more tickets for all remaining shows!

Posted by: Icy B 27th May 2019, 07:38 PM

Could someone help a rookie out here? I have a ticket to Murrayfield in Edinburgh and I keep getting concerned about how much earlier I should arrive at the stadium. Should I expect large queues outside hours earlier etc? At 5.00 pm they’ll actually start letting people walk inside? I’ll be travelling from abroad so getting a decent standing spot is quite important.

Would be helpful if for example those of you who attended at Croke Park could share some experiences about this.

Posted by: ThePensmith 27th May 2019, 08:05 PM

I've watched some of the videos from Croke Park today on YouTube. I've gotta say I was a little unsure of how it would feel and look as a four piece without Victoria but I can't deny it...they look and sound fantastic!

I know they probably wouldn't but if they do decide to do new material with this line up after the tour I'd be here for it. If Take That can carry on as a trio and still produce amazing albums and tours they could easily do it, even if just once.

Posted by: schizo_spice 27th May 2019, 08:32 PM

If you're planning to arrive for doors opening I'd say you should expect to be queuing for a little bit. It's been a while since I was last at Murrayfield though, so I'd say how early you get there really depends on how close to the front you're aiming to get.

The sound definitely could have been better but it definitely doesn't ruin the concert. It improved as the show went on, and those people who left the stadium complaining and demanding a refund made a mistake.

Anyone have any thoughts on the mysterious “January 1st” date that appeared on the girls official website on their list of live shows? I’m trying not to look too much into it....but with the rumored late 2019/early 2020 World Tour start date...I’m intrigued.

I really hope so it’s about time they had a tour!

Nice!! Good for Aus honestly. It’ll be interesting to see when the show happens, hopefully this fuels the world tour fire too! The date has been removed for the site though, pretty sure it was a typo laugh.gif

Australia next leg of the tour in Jan makes perfect sense. Nice break for the girls, Australia are gagging for them to come finally to tour there and I reckon they could play 5 stadiums and so not have to alter the tour at all as it is.

I went to Coventry and it was amazing, the show is spectacular, definitely their biggest spectacle in terms of production.

So I did Wembley last night and it was incredible. The girls were amazing and the whole atmosphere was euphoric, what a night wub.gif

Thanks robbie, sat here in my Spice shirt as the stadium blasts other faves like Ariana and Little Mix, ahhhhh

Looks like the girls are touring Australia in February next year.
Also a documentary and registration of the last Wembley gig is getting released on Netflix around Christmas according to a guy who works at Universal

It's very exciting that plans have been made for next year already.

I hope this will be a long running thing this time. New music simply has to happen.

My whole experience was slightly dampened by travelling issues (finally home now drama.gif) and the girl next to me ruining my programme by accidentally spilling her whole drink over it! But otherwise, what an incredible experience, the best concert I've ever been to wub.gif I was in awe the entire time, everything was just perfect from the girls themselves being on top form to the general Wembley experience. I sang along to every single word and had no cares in the world for a couple of hours heart.gif 'Viva Forever' live... what a moment. What capacity is it? If they are doing dates at the same time as Queen/Adam Lambert they would likely do the same stadiums as they will be set up ready.

Posted by: Aussie 16th June 2019, 12:43 PM

Stadium Australia, (commercially known as ANZ Stadium)
has an oval capacity of 82,500 and rectangular capacity of 83,500.

The Melbourne Cricket Ground has a capacity of 100,024.
(It was used as the main stadium for the 1956 Summer Olympic Games.)

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_sports_venues_in_Australia

I watched The Sunday Project. (2 Aus. interstate radio presenters went to one of their Wembley concerts with scalped tickets.) But no details have been released yet about dates, cities, venues and prices for the Aus. tour.

My guess for their Australian tour itinerary is:
A: Perth x 1, Adelaide x 1?, Melbourne x 1 or 2, Sydney x 1 or 2, Brisbane x 1.
Or, B: Sydney x 1 or 2, Melbourne x 1 or 2, Brisbane x 1?

I think the interview may have been delayed, they deleted the tweet about the girls being guests before it went in air. The 2 presenters were in London for 6 days not just the gig.

It could be loads of things, the girls might have been getting offers to play extra stadiums there or NZ so have just held off airing the interview. I'm assuming the interview will have them confirming a aus tour but to say to watch their social media and the finer details of tour dates and cities etc will be posted there.

I'm on Ticketek's waiting list.
Ticketmaster doesn't appear to offer such specific notifications.

- Did any locations (UK/Ireland tour) sell out quickly?

- How early/how much time in advance, did you need to arrive at the venue and location where you saw them?

All original 6 dates sold out on the day of release, apart from Sunderland, and then Coventry's second date also didn't sell out straight away. Then a few weeks later when they released the Cardiff and Dublin ones, Cardiff took almost to the date of the performance to sell out whilst Dublin sold out on the same day.

If you are in the Standing Pitch and want to get close to the front, you need to be there quite early. Doors opened at 5pm but fans were lining up for hours beforehand. I got there always around 6pm and always got close to the front (like 5 people deep).

Hope that info helps x

Was the sound quite/really loud, when up the front/in the standing circle?

Posted by: Michael Andrew 17th June 2019, 08:59 AM

The sound was great at Wembley and the vocals were pretty flawless. Particularly surprised by Geri. The UK press have always given the Spice Girls a hard time because they challenge the patriarchy. It's a load of nonsense.

I arrived for when the gates opened and got a great spot standing on the pitch.

If they come to Aus, you should definitely go. It was the best thing I've ever seen. Feels like it was an amazing dream. I understand why some people went twice.

Posted by: Jay ☆ 17th June 2019, 09:21 AM

Went to their Wembley show on Friday (their middle date there) and it was definitely my favourite concert experience! wub.gif

I was in the Spice Circle and only about 3 people away from the barrier, just to the right of where they perform in the centre of the circle stage. To be that close to them was a dream (even if for a big chunk of that time it was to see their backs kink.gif ). I felt like their interaction with the crowd had improved immensely since the Cardiff & Coventry dates I went to! Just to be in Wembley seeing them felt very special, what a venue. wub.gif Also the people around me for Spice Girls were nicely behaved, no one being drunk and disorderly. There was a young woman during Jess Glynne who was flinging herself around and stumbling everywhere, but thankfully she went away after Jess finished and didn’t return to that spot.

I shared some of my pictures taken on my iPhone onto Instagram, I took better ones on my camera but I haven’t had chance to look back at them yet! Only got back from London yesterday afternoon & I’m exhausted! laugh.gif

So glad that you had an amazing time too Jade (a shame about your programme though cry.gif ). A newfound appreciation for Holler omg *.*! That remix has had quite a divisive reaction in the fan base, but I’m really into it, it came across very epic & energetic!

Which Wembley date were you at Michael Andrew? biggrin.gif I agree about the sound, it was better than at my previous two dates.

Posted by: Michael Andrew 17th June 2019, 10:01 AM

I went to the final Wembley show. It was my first ever time seeing them live and a life-long dream. I went with my two best friends, my sister and my boyfriend. It was so special.

Obviously 'Spice Up Your Life' was a highlight. But 'Who Do You Think You Are' really suited the 'house of' theme. And 'Holler' was a real stand-out moment too. '2 Become 1' and 'Viva Forever' were especially magical. And the nostalgia of 'Wannabe'/'Stop' section made me feel like I was back in the 90's. 'Mama' with all the mums and babies was very touching too (especially seeing Mel B up there with Madison and her mum). And Geri's apology moment brought a tear to my eye. Basically it was everything I'd hoped for and more.

But the best thing, for me, was the pure positivity and inclusive atmosphere. Seeing so many people feeling that much love and joy was quite overwhelming. Girl power has well and truly evolved into something new. It seemed, for the first time, they've really understood that a whole generation has been inspired to embrace their individuality and love each other's differences. I bloody love those women and everything they stand for!

Posted by: Lukuzz 17th June 2019, 10:08 AM

Mel B has been on radio today and said its not confirmed that they are doing Australia, she was just putting out there like she did with the UK dates and hoping it happens. Hmm

Well, I guess it was only a throw away comment as they left the stage. And she was laughing as she said it. That's Mel B for you!

Honestly, I love her for it. Because we wouldn't have had 'Spice World 2019' if she hadn't been carrying on this way.

But painful for the Aussie fans to hear. I do feel for them.

As I'm such a Spice Girls fact geek, I thought you'd all like to know that the Spice Girls have performed at Wembley Stadium more than any other British female act of all time with 5 shows. They remain the ONLY girl group to have sold out the venue and overall they are only 2nd to Madonna.

Overall list of female artists who've sold out a headline concert at Wembley Stadium

Madonna - 9
Spice Girls - 5
Tina Turner - 4
Celine Dion - 2
Beyonce - 2
Adele - 2
Taylor Swift - 2
Pink - 2 (Late June 2019)

Definitely a pity, but as you say, it's definitely a testament to the power of the Spice Girls name that they were able to sell Wembley Stadium with two different 4 piece line ups! I would perhaps argue that the most recent 3 dates were more remarkable, given that this 4 piece was a new version of the line up and they had no idea how well or not it would be received. Whereas the 1998 Wembley dates were put on sale while they were still a 5 piece at their peak!

The dates themselves were announced long before the adverts. Weren’t they done for the live screening aswell? I remember getting tickets for the Sheffield stadium dates and there were 5 of them in the band at the time.

Yes they held a press conference in Manchester on April 8th, 1998 to announce the stadium dates in both Sheffield and London. The advert they filmed months later was for the Sky Box Office pay per view subscription to watch the Wembley Stadium concert 😊

Melanie C on Pride Shows, Billie Eilish's Impact and the Spice Girls Reunion: 'We Don't Want It to End'

https://www.billboard.com/articles/columns/pop/8517641/melanie-c-sporty-spice-interview-pride-shows-spice-girls-reunion

It's a great interview, well worth reading! Here are some extracts:

QUOTE
“We have had the most incredible time,” Melanie C, aka Sporty Spice, tells Billboard a few days before the last London show. “We were so excited about the show, but we never, never could have prepared ourselves for how incredible it's been.”

Obviously so much of the Spice Girls tour was about nostalgia and familiarity, but I’m curious about what’s surprised you this time -- songs you weren’t expecting to reconnect with, changes in your audience, memories that resurface or exist in a new light.
What surprised me the most is how comfortable we feel. We're playing stadiums, we're playing bigger venues than we played in the '90s. It's so hard to get your head around it. The word that kind of encapsulates the whole experience to me is joyous. It really has been such a pleasure to get up onstage and sing those songs. Some of these songs haven't probably got listened to for 20 years, you know? And to just reconnect with those, I'm like, “We're good! Girls, we've got really good songs!” I hadn't noticed them. They’re songs that are wholesome and positive. It's reignited the pride that we feel about what we created.

The journey to a Spice Girls reunion has been an interesting one -- three years ago, you talked about how the group might have peaked with the 2012 Olympics performance, and that anything “less than the full line-up [wouldn’t] be doing justice to the band or the fans.” What led you to realize that this tour was something you wanted to do?
I can’t believe this journey. There was a time when I was like, “It's never going to happen. It's not going to happen again. The things we've done have been so incredible. We could never do that again.” But I think it was the amount of people that approached me saying how much they wanted to see the Spice Girls, how much it meant to them, how it affected them in their lives.

And all of us girls, we had this on a daily basis. But we just never seemed to be in the same lane. We have our private lives, we have our children, we have responsibilities, we have careers. And all of a sudden -- I suppose like back in the day, when we first started -- all the stars just seemed to align, and it started to become big and exciting. It almost feels like it wasn’t really a choice, it was a necessity, you know? Here in the U.K. -- and I know in the U.S. as well -- it's tough times politically. It’s been dark here in the U.K. for a few years. We felt like what we do is so much fun. We wanted to bring a bit of light and a bit of escapism, even if it's for two hours. It just felt like it had to happen. Something switched.

Have you and the girls talked about other ways to keep the Spice Girls magic going beyond just touring?
Yeah, we’d love to. We're constantly discussing different ways in which we can do that. But I think for us right now, the big thing is we don't want it to end. We've had an incredible run here in the U.K. We'd really like to get further afield. We've had so many fans that have visited us from all over the world. People have come from New Zealand, North America, South America, everywhere. I think we'd really like to take it out to the fans that haven't been able to travel but have supported us all these years. So that would be the immediate thing. But yeah, the legacy is important, and of course, we'd like that to live on. There are things in the pipeline, but it's all a little bit early days for that.

I'm glad that Melanie C is very up for continuing to tour wub.gif

I'm catching up on various videos from dates I didn't go too, and this is really touching with Emma crying & Geri being in awe of being at Wembley Stadium wub.gif (Lol at Mel B's shade to Victoria~)

Sensational wub.gif Just under 700,000, that's pretty insane!

I wonder if they'd have been able to do any more shows than they did? I'm certain that they couldn't have done more in Cardiff or Coventry, because Cardiff & the second Coventry date took right until the last week to be sell outs. Could demand have stretched to a fourth show in Wembley though, hmm! Maybe another in Scotland too.

Posted by: Mr.X 27th June 2019, 03:49 PM

They could have done one more in Dublin, Wembley and Edinburgh for sure! All of those sold out pretty quickly so I think it was a question of timing mostly rather than demand. I also think they could have totally gone to Leeds/Sheffield region and do a couple of shows there. Smaller stadiums but nonetheless, would have sold out.

Seeing the data like that is pretty phenomenal to be honest. 13 shows in the UK/Ireland, all 100% sold out is amazing.

Would be interesting to see how much they made out of merchandise as well. It was pretty expensive but everyone seemed to have that hoodie lol

Just saw the article on Billboard regarding the tour!!

I am so proud of them!

Does anyone know if the Spiceworld Tour grossing $60m back in 1998 was the entire tour or the U.S. leg, so many girl group fan accounts (2NE1, Little Mix etc) seem to omit the 98 tour on their lists. Even with inflation is this tour in the Top 5 girl group tours of all time?

1. Spice Girls Spiceworld Tour 1998
2. TLC Fanmail Tour 1999 $82m
3. Spiceworld Tour 2019 $78m
4. Destiny Fulfilled 2005 $72m
5. Return of the Spice Girls Tour $70m

I read somewhere that the $60million figure only includes American dates, but I could be wrong. Ticket prices for that tour were quite cheap considering the size of the show, so I dont know xx

Oh GOD totally! I attended the final Manchester date with my friends from Leeds and they were all saying that the Elland Road in Leeds would have easily packed a couple of nights, specially as the city is currently in love with Mel B and her being back in town.

It is quite weird they never played Leeds or Liverpool, considering both Mels have always been so attached to their home towns and always made a point of being from there, more so than the other girls.

This list seems not right. Take the k-pop fan accounts and Korean articles with a grain of salt when it comes to worldwide stats. This source(https://celebmix.com/10-highest-grossing-girl-group-tours-of-all-time/) said TLC made $72.8m for their Fanmail Tour according to billboard not $82m. And even $72.8m in 33 dates was quite unreal since the ticket prices back then were very low but okay. And yes $60m was for U.S. leg alone. So the list would be basically like this

1. Spice Girls Spiceworld Tour 1998 (probably more than $120m)
2. Spiceworld Tour 2019 $78m (hopefully it's not done yet)
3. TLC Fanmail Tour 1999 $72.8m
4. Destiny Fulfilled 2005 $72m
5. Return of the Spice Girls Tour $70m

They never played Liverpool either? ohmy.gif I always assumed the would have done Echo Arena on the original Spiceworld leg. I'm really shocked, I understand Leeds didn't have an arena back then but I would have thought Liverpool was a dead cert. blink.gif

That’s amazing that they’ve got the top 3 highest girl group tours by a British female group and can still break touring records 21 years later. It always bugs me that there’s not one single article about the total gross of the ‘98 world tour

Posted by: sajjadali 28th June 2019, 07:50 AM

Brilliant! Good for them.
When you're making money like that from live dates who gives a toss about a DVD release or no release.
They probably think releasing a DVD would decrease sales for future reunions and the extension of this one, so i can understand Simon Fuller's selfish thinking.

Posted by: Spice Girls Net 28th June 2019, 12:06 PM

Just think...if they hadn't cancelled the shows in Argentina, South Africa, Hong Kong, China and Australia they'd have the Top 3 grossing girl group tours of all time.

I know Mel B couldn't continue but the group never performed in those countries, sadly.

Spice Girls top June 2019 Boxscore

https://www.billboard.com/articles/columns/chart-beat/8523773/spice-girls-top-june-boxscore-recap-stadium-tour

QUOTE
More than 20 years on from the debut of “Wannabe” and the reign of Spice World, the Spice Girls returned to the stage with the top grossing tour of June. Across eight stadium shows in England and one in Scotland, Scary, Sporty, Baby, and Ginger grossed $54.6 million and sold 472,618 tickets, according to figures reported to Billboard Boxscore.

Whereas the group’s first reunion tour (2007-08) sprawled across Europe and North America with 45 reported arena shows, the recent trek simultaneously scaled up and sized down, playing 13 stadiums shows (four in May and nine in June), mostly confined to the United Kingdom.

On a per-night basis, the approach worked wonders, averaging $6 million and 53,000 tickets each show, compared to $1.6 million and 13,000 tickets in 2007-08. And even though they played far fewer shows, the stadium strategy worked on the whole: Spice World -- 2019 Tour grossed $78.2 million and sold almost 700,000 tickets, versus the $70.1 million and 581,000 tickets from the original reunion tour. The scale of the 2019 tour means that the Spice Girls even out-performed the touring they did during their late-'90s girl-powered prime, when they averaged 17,513 tickets each night.

In the full article it also mentions they sold over 81,309 tickets and grossed $3.1 million for the Earl's Court shows in 1999 alone. Wish we had a full total for the '98 World Tour.

I didn't want to start a new topic but thought we could discuss the music/staging/costumes of the 2019 shows in comparison with the previous tours?

What did you love the most - was there something you'd change, add? How about visuals, the musical arrangements etc smile.gif

Discuss smile.gif

Posted by: Spice Girls Net 25th August 2019, 04:54 PM

I'll go first..smile.gif

I have always loved the live versions of 'If U Can't Dance' (Istanbul, Wembley 98 and the 2019 tour)

I loved how they brought out the intro a little more (which many referenced as a Madonna/Vogue sample?) which gave it quite an eerie feel. Plus the Spice houses and choreography was spot on smile.gif

My 'visual favourites' during the tour would have to be the SYBT mosaic images and of course when the Spice Ring appeared on the screen during 'Something Kinda Funny'.

Posted by: Mr.X 26th August 2019, 12:36 AM

It was almost perfect. I would have cut Mama and added a mixed remix of Move Over and Step To Me just before Holler. It would have been epic!

And maybe Ginger having a different opening outfit.

Mama was never not being on the setlist

The new Holler mix was BOMB but it definitely felt like it needed a bit more in the beginning. That's why I think a performance of Move Over there just before Holler would have been amazing.

Posted by: Spice Girls Net 26th August 2019, 06:03 PM

I'm so late to the party and I didn't even pay attention during the show, but during the Move Over interlude, when the ring screen came on with the lyrics, I noticed Victoria's line was 'Illumination' this word was neither in the original 'Spiceworld' booklet or the GH I believe. Mind blown w00t.gif

Posted by: SouthernStar88 1st September 2019, 01:06 PM

I'm a little late...I have loved every minute of the show...but I must admit that the mix used for Spice Up Your Life was not my cup of tea...I would have preferred the classic intro with "La la la la la la la la la"...the version used for ROTSGT was way better for me...
Also Viva Forever, my favorite song, was better in the previous tours..
However, a show with almost zero defects…
My highlight? Emma's note in 2 Become 1...

You are seeing some of the stuff recorded for the Netflix documentary there, like the sit down interview with all 4 on sofas, them rehearsing in full costume and being awarded a plaque. I wish they would just put it on youtube but I guess with Geri changing her mind again to wanting to tour they are holding onto it seeing what transpires.

To think they are holding back so much footage and stuff that will almost certainly be released the moment they die in load of cash ins (not being horrible but without them around to stop things being released it will get released).

Posted by: JaneJ 24th May 2020, 01:58 PM

I understand there is more to come. It makes sense if they don't wanna give us the whole thing just yet. It's actually a good sign.

Posted by: sammy01 24th May 2020, 02:03 PM

They were going to give you it all anyway, the tour documentary was for xmas and Australia feb. It isn't like anyone was ever going to not go to see them because they saw them on Netflix if anything it would serve as promo to push more tickets.

Posted by: JaneJ 24th May 2020, 02:15 PM

Then there was some luck there. They wouldn't have toured this year anyway. Those stuff can build another momentum for the new legs.

Posted by: sammy01 24th May 2020, 02:31 PM

Australia was Feb this year Queen and Adam Lambert toured stadiums in Australia in Feb, the lockdown didn't start anywhere until March.

It is incredibly bad timing actually as they would have gotten it done and not had this massive break now. There is absolutely no guarantee that any concert with 20k plus people will happen anywhere in the next 2 years.

To show how worried countries are of big groups causing a 2nd wave, the Australian open tennis tournament to be played in Jan 2021 they are already discussing measures to make it go ahead which include it being only open to Australians to spectate and that players will have to quarantine entering the country.

It might be a long time before any country feels comfortable enough to let 10s of thousands of people gather together especially including people from abroad.

I agree with every word tbh Sammy. It's such a shame they didn't just do Australia in February like planned they could have had it all done just in time and Australia would finally have had the tour they deserve.

The girls are so bloody frustrating sometimes, they achieved SO much but at the same time they have just thrown away so many other chances and opportunities, they are incredibly lucky to have gained their iconic status really, they don't deserve it sometimes.

Posted by: JaneJ 24th May 2020, 02:47 PM

Right now our best hope is the vaccine. I heard there are potential 3 countries that could succeed. The UK makes the most progress. The scientists and doctors are pretty much aware that we can't live like this for long, people will be dead by collapsing economy as well.

Posted by: Spice Girls Net 24th May 2020, 03:15 PM

A UK and Ireland stadium tour followed by some kind of Christmas release and then an Australian tour would have been amazing. They do sometimes let these opportunities pass them for no good reason at all 🤦‍♂️

Posted by: Chemistry 24th May 2020, 03:44 PM

While I agree it is frustrating, we also never really know what goes on behind tours. They are all living such different lives, both compared to 20 years ago but also compared to each other. I imagine for some of them it would be hard to travel to the other side of the world for a few weeks and leave their families behind. Ofcourse I would have loved to see the tour extended and I really really hope it will happen, it's up to them. They don't own us anything, they have had an absolutely incredible comeback tour and I am super happy they gave us that and, on a personal level, had the chance to attend.

Posted by: sammy01 24th May 2020, 03:48 PM

Let's not use travelling as an excuse. Emma has done stints in America the last few years, Mel C travels all over, Mel B takes planes like we take busses and Geri takes her family around the globe following her husband's F1 team.

But is that really the same as touring? The only girl who has toured internationally in recent years is Mel C. And again, it's up to them to make the decision. I think it's mostly Geri's choice to not go ahead and doesn't want to tour internationally for a few weeks and that's more than fair enough isn't it?

Posted by: sammy01 24th May 2020, 03:58 PM

She didnt want to carry on touring as she didn't feel like she was any good and she had lost her spark. She was scarred by her GAY set for Angels in chains and that completely put her off performing she thought it would be different being back with the girls but she was still stiff and uncomfortable. That is why the Netflix's documentary was pulled too.

That is what I've been told and it would fit. I think time has made Geri miss it more and probably reflect less harshly on herself which is why she changed her mind again this year.

I don't have any special insight...but this does sound pretty right to me. I've wondered if we didn't get releasable recordings of the Return of the Spice Girls tour because of Victoria and Geri's lack of performing confidence...and then didn't get the 2019 tour recorded because of just Geri. The girls always try to play off the lack of recordings as a "oh, we just didn't get around to it!" But. Realistically. Performing at Wembley Stadium...I'm sure it crossed a few minds to record that big a moment.

In terms of Geri's spark...I think it kinda came and went with the most recent tour. She seemed to be having a blast in every performance of Never Give Up on the Good Times I saw. On the flip side, she seemed to be sleepily going through the motions on early performances in the show like Spice Up Your Life and Who Do You Think You Are. It's only accentuated by the fact the other three girls are in such fine form and giving their performances 100%.

To be fair, I've seen that sleepy thing with Geri on occasion throughout her career. It's in her Ride It performance at GAY. It's in her Scream if You Wanna Go Faster USO performance in Oman. My guess is she thinks she's playing a role...making things dramatic with the slow movements...though it actually comes off as though she's disinterested. It wouldn't *seem* to be an unfixable problem. Just...don't do that slow motion thing?

To her credit, I thought she sounded good vocally on every recording of the 2019 tour I heard.

I'm almost certain Geri mimed most of her lines to pre-recorded 'live' vocals. There is a video of the team getting things ready in Dublin and Do It is playing as they do checks and it has 'live' vocals but the girls weren't even there as it is the day before the show.

All the show had a backing live pre record but Mel B, Mel C didn't use it much and Emma used it some. I wouldn't be shocked if Geri didn't sing a single note live the whole tour. Some of Geri's miming was very obvious like her Spanish rap in IYCD.

I definitely noticed it on the videos I've seen of If U Can't Dance.

But to me, it seemed like she was plausibly singing her solos on, say, Say You'll Be There, Goodbye, and The Lady is a Vamp, for example. To me, she was hitting the notes, but it didn't sound so flawless that it would be a studio recording. But. I'll readily admit that I don't really know. I didn't get to catch one of the shows in person. I'm just basing this off phone video of varying quality. I hope she didn't lip-sync the entire tour. But if she did...it'd be more reason for her to feel inferior to the other three...

Posted by: sammy01 24th May 2020, 09:48 PM

They all recorded 'live' vocals, it is a common thing for pop groups to do so if one member gets I'll or loses their voice etc they can just mime along to the live vocals recorded. The idea of doing that is they will not sound like a cd is playing and miming along, there will be obvious differences to the studio vocals so people still think it is live.

Yeah. I know that's a thing. I have a number of friends who have done production work for live tours and residencies...and I'm aware there are more artists that lip-sync than people think.

I'll preface this by saying I've never known someone to work on a Janet Jackson show. But I'm a big fan...and I've seen her twice. And I'm not sure she sang a note live either time. To my ears, she seemed to only be handling the spoken bits. Fabulous dancing and stage presence. Incredible setlist. But yeah. Not sure if she sings. And she's definitely not alone.

But anyway. With the girls, I can tell a lot of the choruses are boosted with a track...and that certain solo bits are tracked (Emma's 'whooooo do you think are'). But it sounds to me like a lot of it's live. But. Like I said. Phone videos. If any screen footage gets leaked, I guess I'd know better.

I seem to remember hearing somewhere that Melanie C was the only one who sang pretty much everything live on TROTSG tour and that the other 4 had plenty of backing track!? I don't get though how some can have backing tracks but others can't surely it's all or nothing?

They all have their own individual backing track with their own vocals on it.

The Return tour was mostly live and the new leaks prove that. Mel C, Emma and Mel B seem live everywhere to me, and Geri has some mimed bits. Victoria clearly mimes her verse in Viva Forever, but she is also mostly live.

Last year's tour, you could tell that tehy use a follow track - in some videos you can hear the follow track come up whenever one of them messes up their lines. But Geri clearly mimed whole sections such as If You Cant Dance and Love Thing. It's too obvious.

However, Geri also sings live in many other places, such as her verses in Viva Forever, Goodbye, etc. It's pretty obvious it is live and she does it well.

I do think that the lack of a full recording has to do with Geri and Victoria not being confident with a professional release. The Return suffered from Victoria being OVER IT (her words) and wanting to move on to fashion. It totally makes sense that she probably wouldnt want a new recording of her out there.

Same with last year. They recorded it, so it is quite obvious that there was a stumbling block there. My bet was that when Geri pulled the plug on extending the tour, Netflix also said 'well, then there is no incentive for us to release this' and backed out too.

Imagine if they’d filmed the tour and included the documentary and then for those who didn’t want a DVD could have the choice of paying to download it from iTunes and then the YouTube clips could have been trailers/promos advertising the release 😭

There is an influential and reliable 20+ year old western music magazine, dead and resurrected a few times due to digital technology and the book industry was struggling. But for the 80-90s kids this is the one, lol. They've been resurrected again online earlier this month. Also, one of them is a former channel V staff which was big back when the western music was flourishing in Asia, he had dealt with many western artists before, very experienced and insightful. So when the promoter is testing the water, they're one of the key choices. They stated that, the promoter had asked would you be interested in the spice girls tour after the pandemic? Would you come? Because the rate of the girls is quite high. As far as I know, to book the big artists to play, they have to compete against other countries in the region so they're probably testing if it's worth it but most of the times Bangkok always gets one.

They really did Wannabe justice last year. Probably their best. Geri's line 'Where is she' is ICONIC!!

Posted by: Spiceboy 2nd June 2020, 11:00 PM

Poor Geri she really has no rhythm at all bless her... even in the slam your body down and wind it all around her arm is so limp and lifeless. I mean she gave so much to the group in other ways but considering she had A LOT of dance and singing training after getting into the group it makes you wonder how the flipping heck she did it in the first place!?!?

She might be Thatcher Spice - and that will forever be a thorn in her legacy - but Geri is such an integral part of the group that even her lack of performance talent is kind of iconic lol

Posted by: Jay MATM NBTSA 7th June 2020, 03:33 PM

^ wub.gif So glad you enjoyed it! I feel the same in that I think it's my favourite concert I've been to.

I really want to go back a year and experience it all over again. cry.gif Two of my three Spice date anniversaries have passed now - 27th May in Cardiff and 3rd June in Coventry.

Cardiff was incredible (I went with JosephStyles, amazing to share the experience with him *.* ) and at that date we were in the tiers, so therefore got a side view of the overall production. Plus with it being the first, my excitement was through the roof and I had avoided spoilers beforehand!

Coventry - I was in the circle... I was towards the right at the front, so nearer the main stage but close to a part of the catwalk. Not a great view for when they were at the front of the catwalk, but good for everything else. I enjoyed this date in terms of being more familiar with the set list, so I was able to absorb more of what was going on. One downside to where I was is that people were constantly going backwards and forward to buy drinks or go to the bathroom, which became a bit irritating because it was pretty distracting.

It's such a shame they have never done Wembley as a 5piece yet such a testament to how huge they are that they have played multiple dates there with two different 4 piece line ups!!!

Posted by: sammy01 20th June 2020, 05:07 PM

I think by the time we are all in care homes they will have done more as a 4 piece than 5 overall.

Posted by: schizo_spice 20th June 2020, 09:32 PM

It's a shame they didn't do Wembley in 2008 although their 14 consecutive run of o2 shows was pretty iconic in itself.

Posted by: sammy01 20th June 2020, 10:08 PM

They weren't going to do Wembley in the middle of winter.

Posted by: Jay* 20th June 2020, 10:31 PM

Maybe schizo_spice meant in summer 2008!

Mentioning Wembley in regards to 2008 does make me wonder whether Victoria might have avoided becoming disillusioned about performing, had they done some stadiums i.e. less dates. Perhaps 47 dates took away some of the appeal for her.

With them selling O2 Arena 17 times, I assume they could have pulled off a few Wembley dates back then. Honestly them originally only announcing 3 O2 arena dates and nothing else for the UK was stupidly overcautious.

Posted by: sammy01 20th June 2020, 10:44 PM

But the set and show was made for arenas too it would have been a logistical challenge to change it for a stadium too.

I was thinking that just the other day. They totally should have done more shows in the UK - they all sold out pretty quickly. 17 nights sold out at the 02 is a pretty mean feat! Apart from Prince, no other act has ever topped that right?

Nonetheless, they smashed Wembley every time they have done it and you just know that they could have done a few more last year and probably as well back in 1998 too and a couple in 2008.

Their biggest faux pas when it comes to Wembley is that they never done it as a 5 piece! It wont happen now, ever, but damn as a 5 piece they would probably be able to do a full month there teresa.gif

Spice Girls - The Return of the Spice Girls Tour (17 shows)

Yeah fair dues, 50 dates is quite a massive number hey? I would say that actually if you make the maths:

17 dates at the 02 back in 2007/2008 = 256,647 tickets sold
50 dates at 02 = 754,844 tickets

They sold 690,000 tickets last year over across 13 dates and there was clearly demand for more - even the bookers last year said so. Maybe they could have pulled off a good 50 dates at the 02 too teresa.gif cheer.gif The way that the 17 dates sold out over like 2 days as well, as well as the tour last year mostly sold out too over that one weekend (not counting with Cardiff and Dublin which also sold out later) seems to indicate that too!

Take That would have appeared on this list but most of their tours since 2007 at the 02 Arena has ranged from 6-9 shows.

Posted by: Maz! 27th May 2021, 04:57 PM

Give us a streaming release of the Wembley dates girls or put a live album on streaming services like Kylie does of most of her tours

Maybe they will for the 25th anniversary of the 2019 tour??!!! cheer.gif

2 years today since my Wembley date wub.gif It was such an incredible day... I'll never forget the experience, how it felt to be in that crowd, seeing my all time favourite music act heart.gif I was right in the thick of it in the circle, close to the part of the stage where they jump out at the start for Spice Up Your Life. While being in that circle wasn't really the best overall view of particular moments, it was still awesome to see them so up close (when they turned around, at least kink.gif )

Tomorrow will mark 2 years since the last date of Spiceworld 2019, and it's over 2 and a half years since they announced the tour. I really don't know where the time goes to! It really emphasises how short and sweet their heyday was... the releases of Wannabe to Goodbye happened within 2 and a half years.

One of my few regrets is that I didn’t go see the girls at Wembley really wish I had done. If they go back and do it again Kk definitely going! 😍

You do wonder when a future tour could be announced at the earliest.

Today marks 4 years since the first tour date of Spiceworld 2019:

The girls have just released a special video to mark the anniversary:

I shed a few tears watching it. It's so beautifully edited. cry.gif

Posted by: -Jay- 24th May 2023, 12:38 PM

Really crazy to think it's been 4 years already. I had the time of my life at the three shows I went to. wub.gif Will forever be thankful that they got their act together and toured before Covid drama.gif

That's a lovely video, even if we couldn't go the whole way through it without a certain orange. x

I want them back. sad.gif

I can't believe they are content to do all the smaller jobs they do when they could be doing those huge shows again!?!?

Thankfully Team Kylie haven’t ventured too far into the world of Hoodies and Boohoo collabs kink.gif

But Kylie’s team do love to give us 10 versions on vinyl of every release laugh.gif

I was just watching a few videos from this tour and 2 Become 1 really stood out for me, for the first time, as it really lacked Victoria's harmonies and her singing in the chorus with Mel C ohmy.gif

Don't get me wrong, Melanie does a great job on her own, but the chorus lines really benefit from Victoria's backing in the live setting. I KNOW that there is a theory (unproven, I think?!) that Victoria doesnt actually sing the chorus on the record but live she has always done it while Mel B does the 'oh's behind them and it used to sound so GORGEOUS sleep.gif

Without Vicky:

With Vicky:

Victoria gets such a hard time for her vocals but she is constantly supporting the others with her harmonies. As Melanie says I wish she would have more confidence and belief in her talent.

This is very true. Yes she had limited range but she could really sing well and she always did great harmonies indeed. She was also very clearly missed on Say You'll Be There and Love Thing! In terms of harmonies, her absence was quite apparent during the 2019 tour... Geri would take on some, but she isn't very good at blending (they even said it themselves on live TV in that iconic segment on Jonathan Ross teresa.gif

I'll second that. VB doesn't have the same vocal power of Melanie C, but, she doesn't need to. I always found VB's voice to be pleasant; I think my favourite vocal from her is in Love Thing. Girl slayed that track at Wembley in 1998; her choreography, attitude, vocal, all of it.

Victoria indeed was great at blending, her issue was sometimes she'd sound flat as a pancake on a solo verse.

Lack of confidence, I think, and specially when she took on verses that were not 'hers' like Geri's lines in Wannabe or The Lady is a Vamp (which Geri also constantly fell flat on lol)...

but honestly? Even Mel C sounded awful doing some of Geri's lines lol... her screetching in Wannabe at Wembley and Earls Court still haunts me today

Posted by: dancinqueen 2nd June 2023, 03:19 PM

It’ll always be like that:

Melanie C

Mel B / Emma

Victoria

Geri.

Forever-era was annoying AF. But I did love it in terms of vocals. And Victoria delivered.

Posted by: Mr.X 3rd June 2023, 12:39 AM

Geri vocally was great in 2019 tour, actually. But she does lack the depth that Victoria's voice brought to the harmonies. She was just great at it!

A new song should have been launched at the 2019 tour (pop up beat song).

I missed orange in that video thankfully

Agree, but instead the girls (Emma and Mel C) wanted to release their meandering solo projects around it instead, I guess...

I’m so intrigued to hear this especially since Melanie hasn’t been the most positive about Headlines or Voodoo yet she openly said she wanted to go with Spice is back but was outvoted!

^ The lyrics of the first verse have leaked a while ago:

Everybody, yeah
Rock your body right
Spice is back, alright!

Not really. :-P

Geri's vocals are horrendous.

Also, is it a fact that she quit the band again after Wembley?

Geri mimed 95% of the SW19 tour. It was so noticeable as her vocals were so different in sound to the other 3. It was painful on the IUCD rap how obvious it was. I mean imagine not actually singing a spoken rap in a language most wont understand and that is basically nonesense any way.

She has never done that rap live. I reckon she can't remember the words, she certainly isn't as fluent a Spanish speaker as she claimed.

There's a few videos from Spiceworld 98 tour where you can see she is not miming the rap though. The official videos from Istanbul are dubbed but I think she did the rap live back then

Yeah, I think the backlash against her made her quit/not want to do it again.
