Hey there Pete have just had a big catch-up:
I highly approve of '(It Goes Like) Nanana' as your mainstream pick of the year *.* I have admired some of Peggy's work for a couple of years so was ecstatic that a commercial break-through happened for her! 180: Temples - Oval Stones (612pts) NE (13/5/2023) 38-44-40-39-35-33-38-51-55-63-74-92-99-xx Haven't paid too much attention to Temples recently, but saw they had an album out when looking at Jade's personal chart so gave this one a listen, and it's a pretty solid indie-pop song! This was cool to read! I checked out the album off the back of 'Gamma Rays' and 'Cicada' and was not disappointed whatsoever I was really taken aback by how much I enjoyed 'Black Friday', what a gorgeous song. His brand new one 'The End' is lovely too! 'Strong' was a beautiful collab from Fred Again.. and Romy <3 the former seems to be a bit of a chart force now so it's a shame this one didn't quite make the official charts. 'Promise' was such a grower for me in Eurovision! I underrated it a bit based on studio version but was totally sold from the semi performance onwards *.* Brilliant to see 'Your Side Of Town' doing well here, should be the case for me too The Killers taking on a dark 80s synth sound just had to be up my street haha! Looking forward to seeing what else is to come |

I definitely need to give The End a listen at some point, I keep seeing it pop up on my YouTube recommended but haven't got round to it yet! Thanks for commenting |

the King will come Yet - Chart Statistics NE (30/9/2023) 27-1-1-1-5-21-17-24-32-40-49-62-70-72-... Video Commentary This song was very much a slow burner for me as I was aware of it a couple of months before it appeared in my chart, but every time I heard a snippet of it I wanted to go back to it. It's a really beautiful song focussing both on stuggling with faith and giving hope that God is there. There are a few versions of this song there (all featuring original vocallist Ashley Hess) but this one I think works really well with the choir in the background and the song which gradually builds but never goes all-out. Top 100 Chart History the King will come 2023 01 Yet --- #69 (1155pts) Tom Odell Butterflies (ft. AURORA) - Chart Statistics NE (29/4/2023) 84-59-31-13-5-5-4-7-10-13-17-25-36-52-63-67-79-93-xx Video Commentary Another piano-led song here and one of the shortest in my Top 100, this song really allows Tom's voice to shine, and AURORA's harmonies and extra bits complement that really well. Video Commentary A debut appearance in my chart for Swedish singer Matilda Lyn, this has a really nice indie feel to it that reminds me of something else but I'm not quite sure what. The lyrics about her comparing herself to other people grabbed me as well. Top 100 Chart History Matilda Lyn 2023 12 Dead Ends --- #67 (1158pts) Stevie Valentine How I Praise - Chart Statistics NE (8/7/2023) 86-26-21-23-20-16-13-12-13-13-21-25-38-46-56-61-73-97-xx Video Commentary This is really funky and I can't help but dance along to it! The first Top 40 hit for Mr. Valentine after a couple of Top 100 appearances, this was probably quite unlucky to miss my Top 10. Top 100 Chart History Stevie Valentine 2022 82 Vibin 2023 67 I Wish Heaven Had Visiting Hours 2023 12 How I Praise 2023 45 All In --- #66 (1180pts) Project of Love Isaiah 43, Pt. 1 (I Love You) - Chart Statistics NE (21/1/2023) 38-34-34-20-12-16-16-16-16-16-16-16-22-32-41-49-62-78-88-xx Video Commentary Another of my BJSC entries makes an appearance here! This was probably my least conventional entry this year, what with it being a 7-minute long musical interpretation of a Bible passage, but it did gain a few fans despite not qualifying! Project of Love is a Dutch guitarist who has taken on the task of recording as much of the Bible in song as he can, releasing a new track every week (quite a feat!) I can't say I've heard them all but this one really grabbed me as it's certainly different to the usual Christian music fare. We Are Messengers Just To Be With You - Chart Statistics NE (29/4/2023) 23-10-3-6-9-12-17-20-20-24-31-39-45-56-67-71-84-xx Video Commentary The third-highest song from We Are Messengers' 'Hills of Tyrone' EP, this is the only song on there which isn't ballad-y so it's quite a breath of fresh air with the upbeat tone and guitars. Its Top 10 run was cut short by Eurovision but I still rate it very highly. Top 100 Chart History We Are Messengers 2016 06 Magnify 2017 06 God With Us 2017 06 Point to You 2018 46 Needing You Now (Meredith Andrews ft. Video Commentary A nice Afrobeats worship song, I wouldn't have put these two together but Limoblaze's verses and Elle's vocals contrast and complement each other really well on this one. Top 100 Chart History Limoblaze 2021 83 Come Outside (Limoblaze & Konola) 2023 93 Jireh (My Provider) (Limoblaze, Lecrae & Happi) 2023 04 Talk & Do (Limoblaze & Ada Ehi) 2023 07 Over (Limoblaze & Elle Limebear) Elle Limebear 2020 20 Alive & Breathing (Matt Maher ft. Video Commentary The first Dean Lewis track to crack my Top 10 since Be Alright, this sonng actually has a lot of the hallmarks of that one, but with more of a positive spin even though the subject is clearly in a tough time in their life. This song grabbed me immediately although unfortunatley that tends to mean they drop off quicker as well! No idea if the vocals are words in another language or just sounds but it sounds amazing either way. Top 100 Chart History Sigur Rós 2023 06 Andrá --- #59 (1270pts) Inhaler Love Will Get You There - Chart Statistics NE (4/2/2023) 75-26-21-8-8-8-8-8-8-8-12-17-24-35-49-68-77-88-xx Video Commentary It's been a while since I charted Inhaler (that artist history is quite telling with a number of 41-100 peakers in amongst the Top 10s!) but this is a really groovy little track very remeniscent of some of the indie tracks from the 00s. These two have voices that go together so well and the melody in the chorus is lovely as well. Top 100 Chart History Rachael Lampa 2022 05 Perfectly Loved (ft. TobyMac) 2023 02 Somebody To You (ft. Whilst I'm by no means old, I think the topic of getting older sticks in everyone's head, and the fact Darren can sing about getting older with someone beside him is beautiful. This is fairly standard indie fare, but the lead singer's vocals have a real air of authority to them, and the self-deprecating lyrics along with the line 'nobody's gonna hate yourself like you hate yourself' cause this one to stand out from the crowd. As with most of his songs, the lyrics leave you guessing a bit, but there's clearly an air of positivity here despite missing what he once had. Video Commentary I can't say I was expecting one of Brandon Lake's most popular songs to get this high in my EOY, but this feels like the perfect example of a slow-burner hit. From thinking 'that's quite nice' on first listen to continuing to be exposed to the song and appreciating it more and more on every listen, it really is a tune Top 100 Chart History Brandon Lake 2020 31 We Praise You (Matt Redman ft. Hi Pete, great to see 'Living In A Haze' appear here! It's such an infectious homage to disco. Also a big fan of 'Your Side Of Town' with the 80s influences, would have enjoyed a whole album of that but at least it made it onto a #1 album with their greatest hits. Look forward to seeing what makes the top 50!

Butterflies is a beauty, I love the contrast between Tom and AURORA's vocals on it Trust Me Mate was a really good one from Dean Lewis too! My favourite of his two releases last year.

Teleman String Theory - Chart Statistics NE (2/9/2023) 7-6-7-5-5-5-7-10-12-20-24-37-43-48-57-69-90-92-... Video Commentary Kicking off the Top 50 we have the second-highest Teleman song (the highest will be much further on!) This was the first single from the deluxe version of the album and focuses around going into space. An interesting one as the beat really kicks in in the second half of the song! Top 100 Chart History Teleman 2019 07 Between the Rain 2022 11 Simple Like Us 2023 50 Easy Now I've Got You 2023 01 Trees Grow High 2023 19 Cherish 2023 05 String Theory 2023 16 Avocado Green --- #49 (1360pts) Jet Trouble I Need You - Chart Statistics NE (14/10/2023) 36-8-6-5-3-6-12-12-16-26-40-42-... Video Commentary This is a nice pop song with the singer looking at struggles in his own life and how that affects his relationship with God. This is one which grew and grew on me as I heard it, and certainly interested to hear more from this guy! Top 100 Chart History Jet Trouble 2023 03 I Need You 2023 19 Heaven Come Down --- #48 (1361pts) Andrew Ripp Roses - Chart Statistics NE (15/4/2023) 48-1-4-5-7-12-19-29-32-36-47-55-60-65-76-94-100-xx RE (11/11/2023) 89-99-xx Video Commentary A more mellow worship song here, but that's what Andrew Ripp does so well - all his songs make you feel so reassured after listening to them. It very quickly topped my chart, and probably fell a little quickly due to Eurovision but I still hold this song in very high regard. Top 100 Chart History Andrew Ripp 2022 17 Fill My Cup 2022 02 In Good Hands 2022 04 For the Love of God 2023 01 Roses 2023 02 Somebody To You (Rachael Lampa ft. The production which is very piano-focussed initally before growing and growing to a crescendo at the end, alongside her fab vocals make this a song I'm happy to go back to again and again Top 100 Chart History ALIKA 2023 08 Bridges --- #46 (1367pts) Champs Adeleine - Chart Statistics NE (26/8/2023) 83-38-34-28-24-26-24-22-23-24-25-21-23-27-33-38-52-64-61-... Video Commentary I'm rubbish at stats but I *think* this is the highest song to not make the Top 10 in my EOY this year. There's just something fab about this UK country-ish indie song with it's constant drum beat that almost makes you want to march along to it. I've not heard a song like this done so well in quite a while! Top 100 Chart History Champs 2023 21 Adeleine |

The Strumbellas Hold Me - Chart Statistics NE (14/10/2023) 45-13-8-8-8-7-7-9-11-17-24-26-... Video Commentary This is one of those songs where I like the verse a lot more than the chorus, so never entirely know what to do with it! Thi song is very toned-down and yet brings out all the emotions he's intending to bring out of it. I've not heard too much from Cody Carnes but this one just stuck out to me and is certainly a song to lift your spirits. Top 100 Chart History Cody Carnes 2023 01 Ain't Nobody --- #42 (1394pts) Jon Reddick I Believe It (The Life of Jesus) - Chart Statistics NE (21/1/2023) 19-10-6-5-5-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-15-19-29-38-52-71-72-79-94-xx Video Commentary Hearing this back to back with Cody Carnes, there are certainly similarities in the melody! This is, very simply, Reddick telling the world what he believes as a Christian. No frills here, this is pretty much a blueprint for what a worship song should be! This is a really cheery song talking about how happy she is to have someone by her side. All the music really adds to that as well, and I really ought to give some more of her music a listen! Just had a look back over my Eurovision rankings and 'Bridges' was 6th for me in the semi but dropped a bit for the final. The haunting piano was memorable!

I've never heard of anything outside of 'Makeba' from Jain so I'm just giving 'The Fool' a listen. It's a lot more conventional than 'Makeba' and doesn't feel as instantly memorable. It's still pretty though just not anything like what I was expecting.

Thanks Jade I've never heard of anything outside of 'Makeba' from Jain so I'm just giving 'The Fool' a listen. It's a lot more conventional than 'Makeba' and doesn't feel as instantly memorable. It's still pretty though just not anything like what I was expecting. That's fair - I think it's still a bit left-of-normal, particularly given the lyrics, but certainly different from 'Makeba' (and quite different from her other songs from that era as well!) Ray Dalton's soul-y voice goes surprisingly well on a dance track like this, and of course there's the bizarre music video to kick it off. Top 100 Chart History Felix Jaehn 2016 02 Bonfire (feat. Video Commentary I know pretty much nothing about Briston Maroney other than that he's American, but this song struck me with its focus on being a positive influence on those around you whilst you're still here. I've been listening to this song without the music video so not sure what to think of that now I've seen it! Top 100 Chart History Briston Maroney 2023 08 Body --- #38 (1449pts) Giant Rooks For You - Chart Statistics NE (28/10/2023) 100-77-31-13-6-6-7-8-8-7-9-... Video Commentary I've been a passing fan of Giant Rooks for a while but this is the first song of theirs to crack my Top 10! This song, with it's fairly simple structure but fab guitar solos and shout-y chorus lines really felt like the sort of song that works in the autumn-to-winter period and it still sounds great now. Top 100 Chart History Giant Rooks 2020 32 Heat Up 2020 47 All We Are 2022 84 Tom's Diner (AnnenMayKantereit & Giant Rooks) 2022 40 Morning Blue 2023 63 Somebody Like You 2023 06 For You --- #37 (1454pts) Remo Forrer Watergun - Chart Statistics The second-highest Eurovision track in my countdown, this sounded really good on the night and I've continued to rate it highly. Whilst the anti-war theme is definitely a part of it, I think the whole composition of the song is fab, with a quiet first verse followed by a 'rougher' second one, and his voice is great. Definitely deserved more points from the public! NE (20/5/2023) 4-3-3-3-5-6-8-10-15-15-21-28-30-39-51-61-72-73-81-93-96-xx Video Commentary Top 100 Chart History Remo Forrer 2023 03 Watergun --- #36 (1479pts) Skillet Psycho In My Head - Chart Statistics NE (11/2/2023) 90-25-12-12-12-12-12-12-12-13-12-12-12-9-17-24-31-33-43-57-60-65-70-88-xx Video Commentary Hard rock pops its head up again! The title pretty much sums up the song - the vocallist sings about his own mental battles and asking to see the light in himself more. This is really a heavier version of another song I was listening to last year (which will pop up soon), it was really interesting to hear a Christian band singing about these things and actually quite refreshing as well. Video Commentary I've not paid too much attention to Bombay Bicycle Club's more recent music, but I heard this one and it grew on me very quickly. The song is a heartwarming one of the vocallist talking to his child and singing about all that he'll do in the future. Of course if that doesn't happen it would become a very sad song, but I think the positives are definitely to be focussed on here. I couldn't stop it from getting into my Top 10 earlier in the year! The topic is very similar - talking about hating the parts of ourselves that cause us to live in the wrong ways, and the consequences that leads to.
