Belarus
Uzari & Maimuna - Time

QUOTE
With the deadline for submission of songs closely approaching in Belarus, it has now been revealed that the final will take place on 26 December. Once all songs are received, a special jury will be in charge of filtering the 15 lucky performers that will make it to the stage in Minsk to follow the steps of Teo.

In an earlier report, we informed that Belarus are this year adopting the Maltese jury format. Seven jurors will be responsible for most of the vote with the televote effectively becoming the “eighth juror”. In case of a tie break the Jury vote will be given higher weighting. It had also been reported that a list of 15 performers and 30 songs would make it to the final, so this would logically mean that each of the announced contestants would perform two songs each.

With Belarus moving their national final to December as opposed to the end of January, as it was expected, by the time 2015 comes we will already know four of the participants that in May will be fighting to succeed Conchita in the Eurovision throne.

Wiwibloggs seem to think there's a chance that the song below has been entered by previous representative Alyona Lanskaya. It's written by 2014 representative Teo and is the perfect length - I think it has lots of potential if it is in the national final!

As far as I'm aware, Milki are Alexander Rybak's girl band project so I'll be very interested to hear that!

They're already out! Accent is MENTAL/my personal Qassvision recommendation

Just came across this on Tumblr and instantly thought it would be perfect for Eurovision without knowing it was a finalist here! It simply MUST WIN

Posted by: Ryan. 6th December 2014, 05:40 PM

Ooh yes I can get on board with this! Seeing as they've adopted the Maltese way of voting, surely they will encourage the juries to vote for the band put together by a Eurovision winner? They won't want to waste that chance surely?

There they are live at the auditions.

I'm a sucker for some Soviet Accordian! I echo the previous sentiments, this has to win!

Posted by: Conderella 10th December 2014, 06:59 AM

Am I the only one who isn't so taken by this Milki band. sad.gif It's good but not THAT good. If Olga un Ligo (Eurovision landslide winner that never was. still WEEPING that it actually won its semifinal too and thrashed 2 of the final Top 3 whores including Cake to Vomit. f***ing juries! did they CHANGE them from semi to the final?! 2nd in the semis and 9th in the final. what a fix) couldn't make it to the Top 3 in the NF then I doubt Belarus will choose something that could actually stand a chance in the contest.

Posted by: Qassändra 10th December 2014, 10:03 AM

Latvia and Belarus aren't exactly known for similar selection procedures...

Posted by: Conderella 10th December 2014, 10:05 AM

They are known for picking some of the worst possible songs for Eurovision, however. I think that ties them together very nicely.

Posted by: Qassändra 10th December 2014, 11:25 AM

Since when were Belarus known for that? Their NFs have hardly been teeming with quality in past years and more often than not their entries are great.

Tonight's national final will start in 40 minutes live on eurovision.tv and the running order is as follows:

Is there any point in the televote? laugh.gif

But MILKI OR BUST

Posted by: Ryan. 26th December 2014, 06:55 PM

Not really, they've basically used Malta's voting process but made it even more jury-heavy compared to Malta's last month! kink.gif

Posted by: Ryan. 26th December 2014, 08:38 PM

I've only been watching the pictures so far while watching Coronation Street and EastEnders but I have to say the stage looks very impressive! Just heard a recap and there's quite a few above average songs, but definitely behind Milki!

Televote results seem to be in, Muzzart in 1st and Milki in 2nd! They were my top 2 also judging by the recap. Muzzart also had an advantage of their song being in several commercial breaks kink.gif

Posted by: Ryan. 26th December 2014, 08:46 PM

Just listening to Muzzart in full now, very catchy instrumental but the vocalist's accent is extremely strong unfortunately - but its definitely something different and in a good way. But of course nothing is decided yet with the jury votes still to come!

Posted by: Ryan. 26th December 2014, 09:30 PM

Milki haven't won! Results nearly finished now...

Posted by: Ryan. 26th December 2014, 09:34 PM

Our winners are Uzari & Maimuna with 'Time', which is very similar to Lindsey Stirling in places...

Studio version:

It is decent and has potential with a bit of a revamp! Gets better and better as the song goes along biggrin.gif

Posted by: Ice 26th December 2014, 09:37 PM

Well, they are both female violinists... that is a similarity! laugh.gif

Seriously, sounds pretty decent, the guy is a typical average singer but the girl is good, will be very good if they spruce it up a bit, and it's nice that it isn't immediately showing up as tacky, I could do with Belarus sending an actually good song.

Posted by: Ryan. 26th December 2014, 09:39 PM

Listening to the reprise on the national final now and I'm very nearly sold on this, it could be quite spectacular on a big LED stage! Just needs a bit more umph in the backing track and it'll be fantastic.

Posted by: LeXmas 26th December 2014, 10:53 PM

Oh that's not bad all told. I guess it's Belarus so you can never be 100% that this will be what turns up in May.

Alexander Rybak wasn't exactly happy that Milki lost...he posted this on Facebook last night (English translation):

QUOTE
"I go on tour to many places around the world and everywhere Europeans say so much dirt about my homeland, Belarus. And I defend it, defend it. I say that it has a good system. And they say, “What kind of system? It’s all bought/ bribed” And I keep defending it. But I don’t even know anymore what I am defending.

"Every year, I meet the Belarussian delegation and they keep saying, “Please, write us a song. What do we need to do to win in Eurovision?” And so I wrote a song, spent so much time, so much money. I found some unique and talented girls and I wrote a song about pure and authentic Belarus, how I see it. And then the jury failed it. I even sacrificed by not celebrating Christmas with my parents.

"But it’s not even about that. Everywhere in Europe, people supported us; experts; fans of Eurovision, and here the jury decided to fail us. I saw this jury before. I’ve met everyone. I remember when I was sick, one guy from the jury came and said to take a picture, one chance with the kids. I smiled and took a picture and he said, “We will always support you.” And this is how they support, yeah? I really hope that I will never again see this jury because it will be very difficult to pretend that I’m happy and that I want to smile."

Sounds like sour grapes to me, just because he's famous doesn't mean he should instantly be granted the win. Seeing as the song didn't even win the televote it was hardly like it was the public's top choice either. I imagine after his emphatic wins in Melodi Grand Prix and then Eurovision he really doesn't know how to compute or handle losing, a touch of somebody believing too much in their own hype I think.

Posted by: Conderella 27th December 2014, 08:42 AM

I am LOVING this! If they make a spectacular performance out of it a la Romania 2010 (that's what I thought about when listening to the song) it easily has a shot for Top 10.

Posted by: Conderella 27th December 2014, 09:02 AM

It's rather idiotic to do a 7/8 jury + 1/8 televote system given it's 50/50 in actual Eurovision! :/ But indeed welcome to the ex-USSR national finals where the juries' verdict is likely to be bought months before the event oops. Although that said we'd still have the same winner if it was a 50/50 system. At least no old f*** with a terrible song won this.

Milki came 2nd in the televote yeah but it's obvious why Muzzart won it haha. It'd have flopped in the contest because there's too much of a novelty factor to it. Milki should've been higher in the jury vote, let's be honest.

Looks like the revamps are starting to get into full swing following Switzerland as ESC Kaz have confirmed the new version of 'Time' will arrive on Wednesday (25th)! biggrin.gif

Posted by: Ryan. 12th March 2015, 01:00 PM

Here is the revamp and music video for 'Time':

Another great revamp, really love the part before the final chorus where it is just the violin with the "clapping" in the background, perfect for the arena in Vienna!
