@PeteFromLeeds: ITAPII is a surprising song, considering his last huge hit was "Cooler Than Me" tongue.gif But it's a good one! Only wish it had done a bit better in my charts...

@Jay: Try is a good tune! biggrin.gif

IT'S TIME FOR THE TOP 100! Sorry for the long wait, I'll make it up by posting more than 10 tongue.gif

100) Karma Fields ft. Talib Kweli - Greatness

215 pts / Peak: 3 / 20 days on chart / 10 days in Top 10

This song is probably one of my favourite hip hop songs I heard in 2016. The beat is twisted, the lyrics are on-point and so is Talib's flow. Everything just WORKS.

99) Air Dubai ft. Patricia Lynn - Warning

216 pts / Peak: 1 (1 day) / 22 days on chart / 9 days in Top 10

Another "December 2015 refugee" song. This one actually did far better than I expected to. The song's nice, and the chorus is catchy, but it's not the most special thing I've heard.

98) Miranda Cosgrove - Dancing Crazy

216 pts / Peak: 1 (2 days) / 25 days on chart / 8 days in Top 10

Popheads memes unite! This song just barely made it into the Top 100 thanks to recharting at the end of the year, but it was definitely a fairly notable part of November 2016. I don't know if she'll have more hits on the JeffCharts, but this is a good first impression. I like this!

Now I want BuzzJack to start dacing crazy

97) Eagles - Hotel California

216 pts / Peak: 6 / 34 days on chart / 5 days in Top 10

I really wish this had done better in my charts. This was a great song, the guitar work builds an amazing atmosphere. No wonder this became a classic. Sadly it couldn't even crack the Top 5, but given April 2016 had a LOT of huge songs, this isn't surprising.

96) The Pretty Reckless - Follow Me Down

217 pts / Peak: 1 (2 days) / 15 days on chart / 13 days in Top 10

The Pretty Reckless have slowly grown on me over the course of the past two years. Starting with "Heaven Knows" in December 2014, then Absolution one year later, and now this song. This isn't my favourite song of theirs, but the vocal performance here is still pretty good, and it's got this twisted vibe to it. I dig it!

95) Five For Fighting - 100 Years

217 pts / Peak: 3 / 20 days on chart / 10 days in Top 10

This isn't quite my favourite ballad, but the topic is still fairly relatable. The passing of time is a fairly scary thing, and this song encapsulates this theme fairly well. For what it's worth, it does what it sets out to do, and that works for me. Far better than that Lukas Graham snoozer anyway tongue.gif

94) Marc Enfroy ft. Lila Ives - Shed My Skin
(Spotify Link)

219 pts / Peak: 1 (1 day) / 20 days on chart / 11 days in Top 10

Marc Enfroy was my favourite new age artist from 2015, hands down. He had a whopping 4 #1's in a single month, three of them back-to-back! He never made it that big again on my charts, but with his new album, Crossover, having released in late July, I thought he might have a shot at rekindling that flame. Unfortunately, he had abandoned his smoother, relaxing tones and traded them in for more disturbing and deranged melodies.

This song is probably one of the few songs that really clicked with me. It has an Evanescence-esque feel to it, with Lila Ives' powerful vocals and the chugging guitar in the background. It's a great song, from an otherwise not-so-great album. If he can make more songs like this, then I'm all for this new sound. But otherwise, I think he's best with melodic new-age...

93) Lana Del Ray - Summertime Sadness

220 pts / Peak: 1 (3 days) / 19 days on chart / 10 days in Top 10

It's the original, not the remix. tongue.gif Anyway, godDAMN this is depressing. And I love it. The book-end of 2016 was wrought with moments of self-doubt, loneliness and emptiness. And this song, which came around late October at the peak of those feelings, definitely represented that mood for me. It's a hauntingly beautiful song, especially those bells. Great song.

92) Nine Inch Nails - Closer To God

220 pts / Peak: 4 / 20 days on chart / 13 days in Top 10

The original version of this song, Closer, is much more interesting musically, but frankly, it's still a pretty interesting song in its own right. The production grows progressively more messed as the end draws near, and there's some small changes in the lyrics. If you like Nine Inch Nails, you should check this out!

91) Muse - Time Is Running Out

222 pts / Peak: 1 (3 days) / 17 days on chart / 12 days in Top 10

The guitar breakdown after that first chorus reminds me of Silent Hill. tongue.gif Anyway, as is usual for Muse, this song is pretty awesome, and as usual Matthew Bellamy goes all out on this song. His bombast definitely elevates many Muse songs that might otherwise pass under the radar, and this one is no exception!

Fun fact: Muse have had at least 1 song charting each year since the inception of the JeffCharts! There are few other acts who have managed this. In fact, I can think of only one other; which will come up later tongue.gif

90) U2 - Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own

222 pts / Peak: 1 (2 days) / 18 days on chart / 9 days in Top 10

May 2016 had a fair few downplayed ballads that swell up as the song progresses. Three come to mind immediately, and this one is in the middle of those 3. It's not particularly memorable, but Bono really brings a good performance to this song that saves it. And that bridge is something else... Another good tune!

89) Pink Floyd - High Hopes

222 pts / Peak: 1 (1 day) / 20 days on chart / 11 days in Top 10

I never really heard too much from Pink Floyd, you know... I mean I know their biggest songs, and Comfortably Numb was a huge hit in 2014 (though I later found out I had listened to the Pulse live version, not the original). But they've never really gotten a chance to really impact the charts. This is in fact their second hit on the charts ever, after over 2 years without any other songs. And it's a fairly good one! The themes of time catching up, and nostalgia, are fairly relatable, and were fairly big this year for me, especially in the time this song came about. This probably helped it a lot get into here tongue.gif

88) Zach Callison - Both Of You

223 pts / Peak: 1 (5 days) / 16 days on chart / 11 days in Top 10

So Steven Universe... I made my piece on it earlier when I talked about It's Over Isn't It, but I have to say that it just managed to really get the ball rolling with the great songs this year. And this one is, by far, my favourite of the entire show. No doubt about it. It's very short, which makes sense since this was 1 out of like 5 songs in an 11 minute episode, but it was long enough to tug at my heartstrings. Zach's performance is a career best in my opinion. His voice just sounds so... beautiful and loving. And while it isn't directly relatable to anything I've lived through this year, this tune definitely gives a good message: talk about things, don't let them fester on the inside. I've yet to do good on that message, but it's good to have a reminder. Here's to more great Steven Universe songs in 2017!

87) Sia - Cheap Thrills

224 pts / Peak: 1 (5 days) / 17 days on chart / 11 days in Top 10

I have to say, I'm surprised this was #1 for 5 days. Don't get me wrong, this is a good, catchy tune, but this sort of poppy music usually only gets like 2 or 3 days at #1 at best... I mean, usually a song that lasts this long at the top has connected with me on some emotional level... And there's not really much to connect to emotionally for me. Maybe I was just exhausted from all the feels of the past few months? tongue.gif In any case, this is a nice, simple pop song, and it does certainly get stuck in your head. Good one! Just avoid the Sean Paul version, all it does is add meaningless noise and strangle the song of any breathing room it has. :V

86) Fleur East - Sax

225 pts / Peak: 1 (3 days) / 20 days on chart / 9 days in Top 10

This song is probably one of my favourite straight-up pop songs. The build-up and the breakdown are amazing. This is the sort of stuff I could definitely dance to... if I danced. In places where people dance. And not just when I'm alone. tongue.gif Seriously though, more songs need saxophones like this. Carly Rae Jepsen and M83 have, and with them made two of my favourite pop songs of all time. Why don't more people use them?! tongue.gif

85) The Chainsmokers & Tritonal ft. Emily Warren - Until You Were Gone

230 pts / Peak: 2 / 15 days on chart / 12 days in Top 10

Hey, it's an up-and-coming producer that's really surprised me this year! No, not The Chainsmokers, I mean Tritonal. tongue.gif They'll come up again in a bit, but all that to say that their contributions to this song, whatever they may have been, have made this one of the best Chainsmokers songs to date (bar one, which again stay tuned tongue.gif). The Chainsmokers have had fairly disappointing drops as of late, so it's refreshing to see a song with one that has a legitimate pulse. Emily Warren does help give this song some oomph with her vocals, but the drop is really the highlight for me. Good tune!

84) Evanescence - What You Want

231 pts / Peak: 1 (4 days) / 16 days on chart / 12 days in Top 10

OKAY, why the *flip* was Evanescence not a bigger deal this year in my charts!?! After having splashed with "My Immortal" in Dec. 2014 and Jan. 2015, they just disappeared off the map... until January last year. And they came back BIG. 3 songs, 2 #1s which were back to back and held the #1 spot for 5 consecutive days. They were THE big deal, and it looked like 2016 would belong to Evanescence... but then nothing. It's such a shame, because this song was the best comeback they could have hoped for on my charts.

Let me not mince words. This song is a POWERHOUSE. This is not your "Bring Me To Life" from the 2000's, this is a song that would make Joan Jett wet her bed in fear. From the very first seconds, the drums burrow into your brain and then Amy Lee kicks in and commands your attention with what I consider her best vocals I've heard from her to date. It's a 300 mph train of barreling awesomeness slamming right into you, and you cannot flee. It just slams you and you're sent flying by the shockwave of how great this song is.

Did I say I love this song? Because I do. Definitely makes my Top 10 Favourites of the JeffCharts of 2016, no doubt about it.

And speaking of amazing metal songs with female vocalists...

83) The Pretty Reckless - Absolution

234 pts / Peak: 3 / 22 days on chart / 13 days in Top 10

This song was robbed due to the December 2015 chart drought. So I brought it back. It's still as amazing even after a year, and it's easily my favourite The Pretty Reckless song to date. Similarly to What You Want, this song is a powerhouse. Not in all caps though, but it's still damn good. The guitar work is wonderful, and the vocals are simply wonderful. I hope they make more songs like this, because this RULES.

82) Fall Out Boy - This Ain't A Scene, It's An Arms Race

235 pts / Peak: 1 (1 day) / 18 days on chart / 11 days in Top 10

Another powerful rock song. I swear, it's a coincidence that this happened tongue.gif But yeah, this is another great energetic song. It's not quite as memorable as the other two before it, but HOLY *ship* is this sing-along-able. It's such an infectious song, and frankly I'd say it's my favourite song of theirs so far, too. Great stuff!

81) Michelle Lewis, Doug Rockwell & Chris Savino - In The Loud House

237 pts / Peak: 1 (3 days) / 17 days on chart / 13 days in Top 10

Okay, something completely different! Now, I need to talk about The Loud House. I had heard talk that it was "actually a good cartoon on Nick for like the first time in years", and I guess I had to check it out. And while it wound up being fairly typical, I ended up loving it for about a month. And that's why the show's theme song is there. And to its credit, the theme song is quite memorable and catchy. It's fairly aimlessly energetic, but it's catchy! Far from the worst theme song out there tongue.gif

---

And that's my piece; stay tuned as I try to rush out the rest of the Top 100! tongue.gif

And time for 80-51!

80) Yanni ft. Leslie Mills - Never Leave The Sun

240 pts / Peak: 1 (2 days) / 27 days on chart / 12 days in Top 10

If you haven't heard "Before The Night Ends", DO IT. It's a beautiful song. Anyway, I had heard that song back in September 2014 and it convinced me that Yanni had potential to make wonderful songs with lyrics, just as he could with instrumentals. So here I am, looking for the other songs he made with Leslie Mills, whose vocals made "BtNE" go from nice to wonderful, and I found this song. It's not quite as great as that other song, but it's got a nice sensual vibe to it, and Leslie kills it again with her whispery vocals. Do not trifle with Yanni, he'll amaze your face off! tongue.gif

79) Bad Company - Bad Company

241 pts / Peak: 1 (2 days) / 19 days on chart / 12 days in Top 10

So I didn't know this song existed. But it's apparently classic enough to be referenced in Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, so I guess it's a classic? tongue.gif Anyway, this is a good song, and fairly iconic! Though I get this weird feeling that like "Crawling in My Skin" and "Bring Me To Life", this song was the sort of song that edgy teens would listen to back in the 70's. If the internet had been a thing back then, this song would be an ironic meme, mark my words! Still, it's a good tune. And I won't deny!

78) Peter Gabriel - The Veil

242 pts / Peak: 2 / 19 days on chart / 13 days in Top 10

It took me a while before I found out this song was a tie-in to the Snowden movie. But it works quite well. The song is fairly unsettling in vibe, which works given the theme of the movie being about government surveillance and all that. I like my unsettling songs, and this is definitely a good one from this year which had offsetting music to spare. tongue.gif Maybe I'll check out that movie sometime! Or is that a crime? tongue.gif

77) Yanni ft. Nathan Pacheco - Omaggio

242 pts / Peak: 1 (2 days) / 21 days on chart / 13 days in Top 10

This song is amazing. Probably gives Before The Night Ends a run for its money. Why? It's such a grandiose song, and has wonder to spare. While BtNE was more quiet and reserved and lovely, this song is grand, ambitious and sweeping. It's got that bombast that I absolutely adore hearing in music. Even if the lyrics are in spanish, the vibe comes through. This is amazing. NEVER DOUBT YANNI. tongue.gif

76) Frédéric Chopin - Noctune in E-Flat Major Op. 9 No. 2

244 pts / Peak: 2 / 21 days on chart / 11 days in Top 10

This song lucked out. It got a revival in late December 2016 and that's what let it get into the Top 100. Of course, I do see why: it's a pretty and somewhat somber tune, perfect for reflecting about life in a dark room tongue.gif Classical music has always been hit-or-miss for me, but this song has a great atmosphere that sets it apart from its peers. Good one!

75) Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Count On Us

244 pts / Peak: 1 (2 days) / 25 days on chart / 11 days in Top 10

Who knew cartoon characters could make power ballads? And before you ask, yes, there was a TMNT concert. And in spite of the cheesiness of this whole thing, one thing is sure: this song ROCKS. If you put this in a 80s best of hair metal compilation, it would fit in perfectly. And seeing how I love songs with bombast, this tune definitely stuck the landing for me. The grandiose sing-along chorus is definitely a wonder to listen to. biggrin.gif I'm serious, give this a listen!

74) Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Count On Us
(Spotify link)

245 pts / Peak: 1 (2 days) / 20 days on chart / 11 days in Top 10

No clue why there's no videos of the actual song on YouTube. Good grief Drake, this is 2016! What are you doin' man! Anyway, this song is not bad. It's got a nice gloomy vibe that I have to admit I like more than I should. However, the song doesn't have too much to offer. It being in the upper 3/4 of the Top 100 is somewhat surprising. But I don't mind too much. I guess.

73) Christine and the Queens - Tilted (Paradis Remix)

246 pts / Peak: 1 (1 day) / 24 days on chart / 12 days in Top 10

This feels a bit cheap. The original version of the original version of this song was a hit back in 2015, and was the 10th biggest song of that year for my charts. Nonetheless... I feel the remix itself is noteworthy. It gives the song a new identity, one that is far more subdued than the original. And it works strangely very well! I'll have to see what else Paradis has done!

72) The Amazing - Circles

247 pts / Peak: 1 (1 day) / 23 days on chart / 10 days in Top 10

This song definitely had to make the Top 100. It's such a nice song and it's got an amazing atmosphere. The vocals just cascade down like honey, especially that wonderful duet chorus. It's a very memorable song from the first month of this year. Great tune, definitely recommend it!

71) Carly Rae Jepsen - Your Type

248 pts / Peak: 1 (2 days) / 26 days on chart / 10 days in Top 10

Carly! biggrin.gif This song is really relatable. It's a fairly sad story of still being in love with someone even though you know you'll never be the person they want. Yeah, I know how that feels. tongue.gif Emotion as a whole has a fair few of these little nuggets of relatability (is that a word?) which makes her stuff really click with me, but this song especially connects. Good stuff!

70) Jean Leloup - 1990

250 pts / Peak: 1 (3 days) / 17 days on chart / 14 days in Top 10

That song feels like it stuck around for ages. I actually began to get sick of it after a while... xD But it's a fairly nice little cornball dance track from early 90's Quebec, complete with the awkward attempt at political messages that Quebec loves to try to do with its pop music. tongue.gif The only thing I have to say I don't like is that the female voice at the end gets annoying after like the 100th repetition of "Hier soir DJ a sauvé ma vie avec cette chanson" (Last night DJ saved my life with this song)... WE GET IT! Not to mention that's a Usher reference made 20 years early tongue.gif

69) DJ Khaled ft. Big Sean, Kendrick Lamar & Betty Wright

252 pts / Peak: 1 (2 days) / 19 days on chart / 10 days in Top 10

Did I say I love grandiose music yet? Well I guess this sorta stuff helps with rap too tongue.gif That chorus is simply godly (heh). Betty Wright is on point there. Big Sean and Kendrick have great flows as well. Great tune!

68) DJ Snake & AlunaGeorge - You Know You Like It

254 pts / Peak: 1 (2 days) / 19 days on chart / 10 days in Top 10

This song is far from having my favourite drop, but it's got a nice mood and vibe. It just kind of... works. It's the King Crimson of songs. tongue.gif

67) M83 - Un Nouveau Soleil

254 pts / Peak: 1 (4 days) / 21 days on chart / 13 days in Top 10

Remember how I said M83 could easily make a soundtrack with their amazing sweeping sound? Yeah? Well feast your ears on this. This could be a shoo-in for my top favourite of the JeffCharts this year, honestly. This song is synthetic PERFECTION. From the buildup to the "drop" to the chanting, this song just does everything right, and hits every chord with me. This is a song that inspires me, that lifts me up beyond what I could possibly imagine. It's audio perfection. Bless you, M83, for making this piece of perfection.

Oh yeah, the movie this song was made for? An erotic movie. I haven't seen it, but it seems a bit generic from the summary I read. Must be one heck of a *ahem* climax, if this song plays in it though XD

66) Snuffy - Love Unspoken

255 pts / Peak: 2 / 23 days on chart / 12 days in Top 10

Another beautiful instrumental piece. Listening to it makes me feel like I'm watching the sea from a cliffside. There's always a windmill for some reason tongue.gif But yeah, this is such a cute song. Makes me wish I could just find a beautiful view of the sea and just stay there forever... If only. sad.gif

65) Nine Inch Nails - March of the F*ckheads

255 pts / Peak: 2 / 24 days on chart / 13 days in Top 10

This is the dentist drill, the song. But honestly, broken and jagged production like this is why I love Nine Inch Nails. It's such an utterly demented and broken song, it just sticks to the mind! I can see this being divisive, but I personally really like it. Then again, I have a high tolerance level tongue.gif

64) Carly Rae Jepsen - All That

256 pts / Peak: 1 (2 days) / 26 days on chart / 12 days in Top 10

I love 80's soft pop ballads. (More on that later) So this song being here makes sense. It reminds of the sort of soft rock that just somehow manages to click with me. It was one of the juggernauts of December 2016, and with good reason! This is a cute song about devoting yourself to someone else, and it's got a wonderful 80s sound to it. Great stuff!

63) The Wild Feathers - Overnight

257 pts / Peak: 2 / 21 days on chart / 13 days in Top 10

This song is weirdly iconic. The chorus just grabs your attention. OOOOOOOOOVERNIGHT! And then in my macroeconomy classes, it came up again everytime overnight rates were mentioned. Thank you, selective memory tongue.gif

62) Major Lazer ft. Justin Bieber & MØ - Cold Water

257 pts / Peak: 2 / 21 days on chart / 15 days in Top 10

This song is typical tropical house, but I kinda like it. It's got a nice vibe, and Bieber's vocals are not bad at all here. It flows fairly well. But I'm left a bit, erm, cold on it nonetheless. Still, not a bad song! It just doesn't quite match up with the greats, though that's a hard feat to accomplish for a pop song xD

61) Radiohead - True Love Waits
(Spotify link)

258 pts / Peak: 1 (5 days) / 28 days on chart / 10 days in Top 10

This is an odd song. It sounds like a lullaby, but it just clicks with me... It's just such a soothing and almost calming tune. Which I guess IS what a lullaby should be. But it is so in a good way! After all the overwrought drama that May and June brought, it was good to have this song to close out the month. It's a great one!

60) Mating Ritual - Hum Hum

261 pts / Peak: 2 / 19 days on chart / 14 days in Top 10

This is one of those indie fluke hit songs that sometimes smacks into the charts. This one was probably one of the bigger ones though, and like many others, it was the in-your-face chorus that sucked me in. In case you don't know, I love songs that are bombastic tongue.gif

59) Death Grips - Hacker

261 pts / Peak: 1 (1 day) / 24 days on chart / 12 days in Top 10

Hey, speaking of in-your-face... tongue.gif This song is a wall of in-your-face. As I would assume most Death Grips songs are, from what I've experienced. This one however clicked with me because it's packed to the brim with great technological references. References to IP addresses, jpegs, google ranks, wikileaks... there's a lot to discover here.

Also: TEACHING BITCHES HOW TO SWIM. Memes. biggrin.gif

58) Les Colocs - Tassez-vous de d'là

261 pts / Peak: 1 (1 day) / 24 days on chart / 13 days in Top 10

This song was what finally made Quebec music break through into the JeffCharts. Through sheer persistence, this song became the #1 song of September, and opened the way for further Quebec hits to splash through. Though aside from 1990, not many have really taken the opportunity.

So what about the song itself? It's... fairly simple. It's a reggae sounding tune, with a repeating guitar riff and repeating verses... the whole song is VERY repetitive, and it gets very close to becoming a bit annoying. Honestly though, this definitely feels like drugs. Like, this is a stoner song through and through. I guess its oddball vibe saves it, but it's a thin line it walks. I guess it did something right though, if it got #1 of September 2016 xD

57) deadmau5 ft. Rob Swire - Ghosts 'n' Stuff

262 pts / Peak: 1 (4 days) / 31 days on chart / 10 days in Top 10

Ah, good old fashioned dance music! Frankly, between this and another song (coming up later, as with everything else), deadmau5 has shown a lot of potential this year in my charts. This song is very iconic with its vocals, courtesy of Pendulum frontman Rob Swire. It's also got a techno vibe that I don't see much in EDM anymore. Back in my day, amirite? tongue.gif

56) Grizfolk - Troublemaker

263 pts / Peak: 2 / 21 days on chart / 16 days in Top 10

This song is pretty powerful. Of course, it feels a bit thin... And the lyrics are fairly meh, especially the line, "Gonna put you in my pocket / To Save you for later" ...that seems wrong. Not to mention, if she's a troublemaker, won't she cut a hole in your pocket and run away? tongue.gif

Jokes aside, this song has a lot of energy that I don't quite see often in indie rock. So it's good. It's a little bit on the generic side, but I don't mind it. It's fairly powerful, and you know I can get behind that sorta stuff biggrin.gif

55) Iron Maiden - 2 Minutes To Midnight

266 pts / Peak: 2 / 21 days on chart / 13 days in Top 10

Hey, straight up classic rock! I'm surprised this stuck around as much as it did, since Iron Maiden's last foray into my charts was not so successful, with "Hallowed Be Thy Name" which didn't even make the Top 100 of 2014, and barely missed the Top 10 of October 2014. Of course, 2 Minutes is far more direct and less ambitious. It provides straight-up greatness, and packs it with some doom & gloom lyrics that makes it the perfect song to watch during Election Night! biggrin.gif

54) Kungs VS Cookin' on 3 Burners - This Girl

266 pts / Peak: 1 (2 days) / 23 days on chart / 13 days in Top 10

This is a great song. biggrin.gif It's such an upbeat and fun and enjoyable song, so utterly high on life. This really needed to be bigger in the US than it ended up being... tongue.gif

53) David Bowie - Warszawa

268 pts / Peak: 3 / 23 days on chart / 13 days in Top 10

This song is unsettling. It's an amazing bit of atmospheric synthetic music. I heard this while listening to David Bowie's Low, and this was the first song that truly stood out for me in that album. There was one song better than it on there, but that's for later ;P

52) Over The Rhine - Meet Me At The Edge Of The World
(Spotify link)

271 pts / Peak: 1 (6 days*) / 24 days on chart / 15 days in Top 10
*3 of those days were in Nov. 2015

This song was another song that was utterly snubbed by the charts stopping in December 2015, as it had cropped up right at the end of November 2015. So I had it pick up from where it had left off, and it was every bit as wonderful as it was back then. This is a beautiful song with a lot of heart in it. And it's also kind of sad. The themes really connected with my imagination too. Wanting to get away with someone, leave everything else behind... The coming of fall... it's very poetic stuff, and it's a stand-out gem in an album that was unfortunately fairly lackluster overall. What a shame.

51) Ke$ha - Gold Trans Am

272 pts / Peak: 4 / 28 days on chart / 12 days in Top 10

Hey, it's Ke$ha! She was absolutely inescapable from February to April, with a #1 pretty much every month. tongue.gif This song was actually the only one of the many she put out in that timespan that failed to hit that spot, but it still made it almost into the Top 50. Impressive! So the song itself? It's amazing. A rockin' country girl anthem packed to the brim with innuendos that wouldn't fail to make me flustered xD Hey what can I say, I really like songs where the girl takes initiative in flirting. It's a personal preference. tongue.gif

---

And that's that set of songs. I would continue, but my fingers are gonna kill me if I do. tongue.gif So I'll stop here, and I'll see you next time for #50-26!

@PeteFromLeeds: Yes, This Girl is a nice song. I'm actually sad it didn't get a chance to do better than it did, given that it's a very nice song!

Sorry for the VERY VERY late update... 50-26, GO!

50) Muse - Reapers

273 pts / Peak: 2 / 20 days on chart / 14 days in Top 10

Muse have been a consistent presence in my charts for the 3+ years I've been making charts. They, along with another act, have been the only ones to have at least one hit each year! And this is their highest bid this year, and it KICKS ASS. That guitar commands your attention, and Matthew Bellamy's vocals are on point. Great song! biggrin.gif

49) twenty one pilots - Stressed Out

276 pts / Peak: 1 (2 days) / 25 days on chart / 12 days in Top 10

This song is actually fairly iconic. The dark gloomy instrumentation of the song perfectly fits the dank atmosphere of the subway station I pass through every day to go to school. That's part of why this one stuck around as much as it did, though the lyrics about nostalgia are fairly relatable.

48) twenty one pilots - Stressed Out

280 pts / Peak: 1 (4 days) / 18 days on chart / 15 days in Top 10

This song just has something depressing about it... it's got that laidback atmosphere, but the lyrics are about crumbling under the "Weight of the World"... it's kinda sad. And given that April 2016 had more than its share of sad songs, this one fit right in.

47) David Michael Frank - Cornfield Maze

280 pts / Peak: 2 / 21 days on chart / 15 days in Top 10

This song has an interesting history with me. This song was composed as part of the Soundtrack for The Mole, an old game show in the 2000's where people would have to take on challenges to raise money for a "money pot" while trying to find out a hidden saboteur whose goal was to hinder the others. It was a really interesting show which unfortunately did not do well. I watched old footage of the show on YouTube back in the day, and fell in love with it. I especially adored the soundtrack, and so I ended up downloading it to my MP3 player. Now, years later, I found out the soundtrack was actually on Spotify. And as such, I decided to add this song to my rotation, and it basically became March 2016's huge sleeper hit, nabbing #2 on the Month end tally!

This is a song in two parts: the first has a creepy unsettling atmosphere, and the 2nd is an upbeat action theme that wouldn't be out of place in an action thriller. This is what I love most about this soundtrack: in spite of the fact it was made for a game show, the music goes all out to create a wonderful atmosphere, adding some serious depth to the events. Whether it's whimsical background music as the contestants go through Italy, or suspenseful music as each contestant's name is called out to see whether they'll be kicked off the show, this soundtrack does it all. It's amazing. Give it a listen, and try to find clips of The Mole online if the concept interests you. You won't be disappointed smile.gif

46) David Michael Frank - Cornfield Maze

282 pts / Peak: 1 (3 days) / 28 days on chart / 11 days in Top 10

This song is HANDS DOWN the best song The Chainsmokers have ever released (though Something Just Like This does give it a run for its money). The vocals are wonderful, the production is simply perfect... Taggard doesn't sing! XD But yeah, this is a wonderful song, and a strong contender for my favourite hit song of 2016.

45) Fall Out Boy - Phoenix

284 pts / Peak: 2 / 27 days on chart / 16 days in Top 10

Frankly, this song just kind of slipped under the radar for me. It came up smack dab between May and June 2016, so it didn't even hit the Top 10 for any month. In fact, in May and June's month end rankings, the song hit #20 and #19 respectively. Of course, adding the points up, it makes the Top 50. Well, to be fair, the song itself is really awesome. It's got a real driving drum, and Patrick Stump's voice really sells the bombast of the song. I guess the thing is, I just prefer "This Ain't A Scene..." It's a much more memorable song than this is tongue.gif

44) Disturbed - The Sound of Silence

285 pts / Peak: 1 (2 days) / 28 days on chart / 11 days in Top 10

Over the course of the year, I've seen so many people say this cover wasn't very good. I disagree strongly. Yes, it's different. Yes, it goes way over the top. But in fact, that makes it just that much more awesome. A good cover should strive to find its own identity, and with the orchestral bombast of this song, it has essentially remade the song into something unique. And David Draiman's performance here is a career best in my opinion. His lower register is shiver-inducing, and I love how he keeps his voice controlled in the first verses until going all out at the end of the penultimate verse. This song redefines the original song's quiet discontent and turns it into a powerful cry against the wrongs of our world. And given the state of the world... I think we need more songs that do this. My only complaint is that the last verse kind of plateaus the crescendo the song had going up until that point, which I find a bit unsatisfying. But it's a small mark against an otherwise amazing song. Definitely a favourite of mine.

43) Donna Lewis - I Love You Always Forever

285 pts / Peak: 1 (2 days) / 28 days on chart / 12 days in Top 10

This song is cute and maddeningly catchy. Todd in the Shadows was right, after the first time I heard this song in his One Hit Wonderland episode about it, this song didn't leave my mind. That chorus, and that bridge are catchiness juggernauts. And you wouldn't think it though, given how small this song is. But they're sung in such a strange pattern that it just sticks!

42) Cheerleader - The Sunshine of Your Youth

287 pts / Peak: 1 (3 days) / 23 days on chart / 15 days in Top 10

This song is the indie fluke hit of January 2016. In fact, it somehow beat out Roses in the Month-End rankings, while I was certain Roses had the #1 in the bag. And it wasn't even the #1 of January! That song's coming up, but let's focus on this one. This song is a standard catchy indie tune. Aside from a catchy chorus, this song actually doesn't really do much that other songs of its vein don't do... Don't get me wrong, I still like listening to it, and it's the best song on an otherwise very uninteresting album, but yeah... this didn't deserve to beat Roses. tongue.gif

41) Rae Sremmurd ft. Gucci Mane - Black Beatles

289 pts / Peak: 2 / 22 days on chart / 16 days in Top 10

Ironic that this song has done better than any Beatles song this year tongue.gif But yeah, this is an unexpectedly nice-sounding Rae Sremmurd song. And I think the main reason is the production, courtesy of Mike Will Made It. The lyrics and the vocals are alright, but that chorus and the production are what really make this song.

40) Daniel Crawford - D Pad Down

291 pts / Peak: 1 (3 days) / 26 days on chart / 13 days in Top 10

This song's main appeal is that it reminds me of the soundtrack of Meteos Wars, an old XBox Live game from over 8 years ago. Frankly, I don't know how this managed to ride out into the Top 40 only on nostalgia appeal, but it did. *shrug*

39) Tritonal ft. Jaden Michaels - Running Into Me

294 pts / Peak: 1 (4 days) / 25 days on chart / 13 days in Top 10

This song is easily one of my favourite EDM hits that graced my charts in 2016. It's got energy, both in the production and the vocals. Tritonal and Jaden Michaels are both forces to be reckoned with. They made a EDM song with an intensity that The Chainsmokers WISH they had. Between this and "Until You Were Gone", I definitely need to check out more from Tritonal!

38) twenty one pilots - Tear In My Heart

296 pts / Peak: 1 (3 days) / 24 days on chart / 16 days in Top 10

This is probably my favourite twenty one pilots song. And thankfully, it was their highest charting hit! This song has this positive intensity that I definitely welcome! Tyler Joseph just believes with all his heart that this girl is the one he loves. It's quite a nice song, especially on an album with otherwise fairly gritty songs.

37) Africa - Toto

298 pts / Peak: 3 / 28 days on chart / 14 days in Top 10

This is the song that nabbed the #1 for January 2016 instead of Roses. A song that DIDN'T EVEN HIT #1!! It was quite shocking to see, but looking at the stats now, it's not quite so surprising, especially since Roses didn't last quite as long in the top 10. And not to mention, this song is very good. For a song that came out in the synth-heavy 1983, this has a lot of uniqueness and colorful flavor. The only other song quite like this one is "Down Under" by Men at Work, which remains suspiciously missing from any of my charts in spite of being a song I like very fondly... This song was a classic from way back before my charts were even a thing. I remember liking this song as far back as like 2011-2012. It was also one of the first songs to be put in my "Playlist of Music" that I started in 2013. It finally made it onto my charts after ages of not having made an official JeffCharts appearance, and I have to say I'm happy it managed to do as well as it did. Proves there's hope for old faves! biggrin.gif

And now, onto the Ke$ha hour, with...

36) Ke$ha - Past Lives

300 pts / Peak: 1 (5 days) / 24 days on chart / 15 days in Top 10

So Ke$ha was a big deal in the first half of the year or so. She made her first arrival in late February with "Last Goodbye", and after this managed to get an almost perfect record of 4/5 songs going #1 in that time. This was her longest #1 run at 5 days, and it is easily my FAVOURITE song of hers, hands down. The instrumentation is simply fairy-tale-like, and the vocals evoking a romance over many lives is simply awe-inspiring. This song proved to me above all that she had so much talent, and that she deserved so much better... sad.gif

35) Ke$ha - The Harold Song

303 pts / Peak: 1 (3 days) / 25 days on chart / 17 days in Top 10

This is probably my 2nd favourite of the Ke$ha songs here. The lyrics are relatable in spite of never having experienced young love to begin with, and the production is pretty good. My only complaint is that Ke$ha's vocals are a bit too monotone in the chorus. But that aside, this is a pretty song. Give it a check if you haven't already!

34) Ke$ha - Last Goodbye

305 pts / Peak: 1 (4 days) / 19 days on chart / 16 days in Top 10

This song was the one that started it all. While I had softened on Ke$ha after Die Young had a not-so-bad run in September 2015, this song really convinced me that there was more to her than loud party songs. This song has an interesting country flavor to it that gives it depth! And the chanting, especially after the 2nd chorus, seals this song as a classic. Maybe not one I'll remember the most, given that 2016 had many songs more memorable, even from Ke$ha herself, but this song is simply a joy to hear. It's so well composed!

33) Ke$ha - C'Mon

307 pts / Peak: 1 (2 days) / 29 days on chart / 19 days in Top 10

I'm surprised this song was the one that got the most points out of the 4, but I guess it makes sense: that chorus is an undeniable dance-inducing masterpiece. If I ever decided to actually dance, this is a song that could get me to do it. There are a lot of corny lines, but they don't take away from how danceable this is.

---

And now before we move on, I want to say something. I ended up delving further into Ke$ha's discography after having watched Spectrum Pulse's video on Warrior, where he went into detail about how the producers had in a way sabotaged the sales of the album by not properly advertising it, because it wasn't really the kind of music they wanted from her. After having listened to a decent number of the songs on Warrior, 4 of which were big hits in my charts this year, I can say without the shadow of a doubt that this was a criminal mistake. The album has many songs that have a lot of depth to them, and would definitely be appreciated the portion of the general public that have actual taste beyond manufactured pop. That, on top of everything that happened to her in 2016, makes me feel very bad for her. I so dearly hope she is able to make a comeback after all that happened to her, and I hope that she'll be allowed to express herself artistically as she desires. She really does deserve to be known for more than the "drunk party girl" image that her biggest hits paint of her. She deserves better than this, people. So please give at the very least Warrior a listen, if you haven't.

---

32) Madeon - Home

310 pts / Peak: 2 / 27 days on chart / 15 days in Top 10

Ah, Madeon. One of the many breakout artists this year! This song was an unexpected sleeper hit, but it managed to score the #2 spot on the May 2016 Month-End tally. Which is pretty good! The song itself is fairly repetitive lyrically, but they're strangely relatable, especially "If I could try a little harder / I would succeed (oh, oh) / I'd rather give up /And be happy". Hits home, I guess xD And the production is nice! It's got a bit of dramatic flair to it, which I guess was kind of what I wanted in May 2016 tongue.gif

31) Carly Rae Jepsen - Run Away With Me

310 pts / Peak: 3 / 28 days on chart / 14 days in Top 10

/R/POPHEADS REPRESENT

This song is wonderful. But it didn't do all that well in its two individual runs on the charts. Before it recharted in September 2016, this song was at a very dismal 163 points, which would barely give it entry in the Top 200... but its second wind gave it just enough points to almost make the Top 25. It didn't quite hit it, but that's fine. It's in the Top 40, which is good enough!

30) Coldplay - Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall

318 pts / Peak: 1 (6 days) / 30 days on chart / 13 days in Top 10

The quickest way to my heart is with a soaring uplifting song. It worked wonders for Hardwell in 2014 with his smash "Dare You" with Matthew Koma, same for Keane's "Won't Be Broken", and Murray Gold's "Song of Freedom". This song isn't the only one of its kind here, but it's certainly one of my favourites. The lyrics deserve mention as well: they embrace the power of emotions, and how one should fight for the right to feel feelings. It also highlights how music is an important expression of those emotions, and that a world without music could certainly be a dark one. (In fact, the world not having any music is part of the premise of the album this song is on!) This song is a wonderful blast of "joy to be alive", and it's a perfect song to put on my phone when the sun is out. This is a GREAT track, and it brought Coldplay into the spotlight of the JeffCharts. This song rules, and I LOVE it.

29) Tribe Society ft. Kiesza - Pain Told Love

320 pts / Peak: 1 (4 days) / 41 days on chart / 11 days in Top 10

This song has a dismal Top 10 run compared to the other songs around it, but it managed a whopping 41 day chart run, mainly thanks to many interspaced re-entries on the charts over the months after its initial run. And this song definitely deserves this, since it's quite a marvel. It feels unique: combining high-hats with an echoing and haunting production makes for a strangely appealing sound. The lyrics are a bit hard for me to decipher, but I think they're about accepting that pain and love are things that are intertwined, and that trying to hide the pain doesn't work out well? I'm not sure. But this song is still wonderful. And it marks Kiesza's highest peak to date, after not having done quite so well in 2015 with Hideaway and Giant in My Heart. Her performance here is really good, too!

28) Kevin Morby - Parade

324 pts / Peak: 1 (3 days) / 27 days on chart / 16 days in Top 10

This song sounds kind of depressing. Which made it a perfect fit for inclusion in Bojack Horseman. Which, of course, is where I picked this song up. At first, it didn't seem like it would be even a big hit, but after its 3 day run at the top, followed by an insistence to stick around and then a re-entry in December that only helped rack up the scorepoint, it made it here... I guess I don't mind it, though this song kind of makes me feel numb...

27) The Cinematic Orchestra ft. Patrick Watson - To Build a Home

331 pts / Peak: 1 (5 days) / 30 days on chart / 14 days in Top 10

There are a lot of sad songs this year. 2016 was a fairly sad year musically for me. But I'll tell you right now, this is the cream of the crop for me. No song captures the raw pain of heartbreak as much as this song does. Patrick Watson's performance is golden here, as he portrays a man coping with the loss of his loved one. The second verse of the song is probably the most heartbreaking for me, as he mentions a large tree that he climbs, fighting the harsh winds as he holds on for dear life, then remembering how his loved one used to hold on to him just as strongly. The second chorus that comes in, with the added strings, makes an already poignant chorus pack even more of a gut-punch. This song is a masterpiece, and it's hands down my favourite song this year. Sorry to spoil the party here, but it is. tongue.gif

And finally,

26) Patrick Carney - Bojack's Theme

332 pts / Peak: 1 (4 days) / 26 days on chart / 19 days in Top 10

Ever wanted a song that portrays what the life of a star is like? Well, the theme song to Bojack Horseman, my new favourite cartoon of all time, is a good approximation. There's hints of the glitz and glamour that everyone associates with it, in the saxophone that plays faintly in the song, but it's all surrounded by hollowness, represented in this song by the bubbly sound that I can't quite identify properly. tongue.gif Bojack is a very troubled person, who thinks being famous is the answer to all his problems. Spoiler: it isn't. And this song I feel appropriately encapsulates the vibe of the character: encapsulated by the fame he has earned long ago, and just kind of stuck there. It's actually a bit of a depressing song, in a way. But it's very good. Like the show. Which you should watch if you haven't. Seriously, it's on Netflix, just go watch it. You won't regret it, I swear.

----

And that's that. Next, 25-1! We'll be counting the winners of 2016! ohmy.gif

Reapers is a decent song biggrin.gif One of my favourites from the album!

The Sound of Silence was a great cover as well! Really unexpected!

@PeteFromLeeds: Reapers is indeed a good song. I personally think The Globalist and Dead Inside are better, but Reapers is undeniable tongue.gif And glad you agree on the Sound of Silence cover!

Change of plans, I'm going to do 25-11 now, and write down the Top 10 songs individually. I'll write down all the songs that made it, and leave you all to speculate. (Yes, I took a page from Pete's countdown, I'm such a meanie tongue.gif )

25) Phlake - So Faded

333 pts / Peak: 1 (1 day) / 29 days on chart / 16 days in Top 10

This is a nice gloomy song about feeling numb. The saxophone is a nice touch too biggrin.gif

24) ODESZA ft. Zyra - Say My Name

337 pts / Peak: 3 / 31 days on chart / 19 days in Top 10

This being here is a bit of a surprise. This song slipped under the radar when it came around, but I guess it took its sweet time to leave and that's why it's here tongue.gif Still, this song is very good, what with the vocal drops and Zyra's vocals are really good. The production here is sublime, and they mold around the vocals quite wonderfully. While it doesn't stand out from the crowd as well as Roses did, it's still a great sleeper hit!

23) REO Speedwagon - Can't Fight This Feeling

343 pts / Peak: 1 (7 days) / 26 days on chart / 17 days in Top 10

I'm a sucker for 80's cheese. And in March 2016, I was feeling particularly lovestruck, so this song just made sense. And even listening to it now, it brings back this sweet feeling of longing, back when it didn't feel like it came with the looming shadow of rejection. tongue.gif The synthesizer here is simply wonderful, and I wish more songs had this glimmering beauty to them. The best I've found so far is Carly Rae's "All That", but it doesn't quite hit the points this does... I dunno. tongue.gif Great song!

22) Jon Bellion - 80s Films

343 pts / Peak: 1 (1 day) / 26 days on chart / 20 days in Top 10

This song introduced me to Jon Bellion, and this one just kind of latched on and didn't let go for almost a whole month! The standouts are the uneven percussion and the strange sense of nostalgia that the lyrics invoke. Of course, once again, having not ever really "done anything", it's hard for this song to "take me back to ninth grade", and not just because our school system doesn't have a "ninth grade". tongue.gif Anecdotes aside, this is a good song. I'd say it's surprising to see it this high, but it deserves its spot a little bit. smile.gif

21) Karen Aoki & Daisuke Hasewaga

348 pts / Peak: 1 (4 days) / 23 days on chart / 20 days in Top 10

ANIME TIME! :I This song was the last huge smash of the year, nabbing for itself the top of the December 2016 list through sheer persistence and awesomeness. I have been watching Jojo's Bizarre Adventure since 2015, and while a few OP's had made their way into the charts, none really ever made it to the top. And in fact, when the first few OP's of the newest season, "Diamond is Unbreakable", failed to chart, I was worried that Jojo would not really get much representation. But when I rewatched the show and got caught up, I encountered this theme and it was GLORIOUS. It's honestly probably my favourite of all the opening themes of the show, even with the memorable "Sono Chino Sadame" and the awesome "Stand Proud". It's got such a joyful vibe that it becomes infectious. Great tune, and do check out Jojo's Bizarre Adventure if you're into that sort of thing. But beware, it's "Bizarre" for a reason tongue.gif

20) Tracy Chapman - Fast Car

348 pts / Peak: 1 (1 day) / 34 days on chart / 15 days in Top 10

"To Build a Home" might be the saddest song of the year, but this one might be the saddest story told in a song of the whole year. The tale of a girl who seeks a better life elsewhere with her lover, only to be left by him after they get settled in their new life, echoing how her mother had left her father way back when... it's such a sad tale! And while the Jonas Blue version is catchy, it doesn't really capture the tragedy of the original. This is a classic, and to believe that before July this song had been a flop, is simply heartbreaking. This is an amazing song, and I'm so glad that I gave it a second chance and gave it the room to truly shine. This is a beautiful track. Give it a listen, please.

19) Duran Duran ft. Janelle Monáe & Nile Rodgers - Pressure Off

354 pts / Peak: 2 / 31 days on chart / 19 days in Top 10

This song rules. As far as upbeat dance songs go, this is probably one of the most memorable ones, by a long shot. That chorus is a powerhouse, and Janelle really delivers on it. Also, seriously, why is it that Nile Rodgers pretty much contributes the same riff to all the songs he features in? And why, oh WHY? is it that every song he's in kicks metric amounts of butt?? tongue.gif

18) DJ Khaled ft. Chris Brown, August Alsina & Fetty Wap - Gold Slugs

357 pts / Peak: 2 / 25 days on chart / 22 days in Top 10

No, I don't know why this is here. This song was an oddity in of itself. Hip hop this grimmy doesn't really make sense in my charts, especially not when most of the songs here have been pop, rock, indie, electronic, and so on... But in June 2016, this song held onto the Top 10 for a strong 22 days, or THREE WEEKS, and became the 2nd biggest song of the month, 2nd only because of another song that was simply a juggernaut this year (more on that in the Top 10). This song has a strangely addictive vibe, and Chris Brown's chorus is oddly catchy. I'd sing along if the lyrics weren't so dirty. xD Still, considering my charts have since become more open to hip hop, given DRAM, Kanye West and clipping's success on my charts in 2017 so far, I guess this song was strangely enough a groundbreaker? Weird that DJ Khaled was the one to do this. tongue.gif

17) The Pretenders - I'll Stand By You

360 pts / Peak: 1 (2 days) / 27 days on chart / 20 days in Top 10

I can't say I'm sure how this song got this high. Like many others, this was just a song that happened to rack up a lot of points without me noticing. But I can see why it did; this song is a fairly nice grandiose-sounding love ballad, and the lyrics are comforting. If only I had someone to sing them to me... xD

16) The Weeknd - Tears In The Rain

361 pts / Peak: 1 (3 days) / 34 days on chart / 17 days in Top 10

This song is just kind of depressing. (Sick of me saying that? Well more's coming so strap in tongue.gif ) But this one is a fairly numb kind of depression. The kind you feel when everything just feels pointless. Where nothing really motivates you anymore. That's what this song felt like, and it set the stage quite well for the cold and rainy November month that it headlined. While November mostly wound up being more upbeat than expected, this song still set the stage for a fairly dark and grim month, especially after the harshness that came at the end of the previous month. This song just kind of accompanied me throughout the month and then some. And it's actually a great song: the production is unsettling and gloomy, and The Weeknd's falsetto really sells the inner turmoil he's feeling. Great tune! From what I've seen so far, I think Kiss Land has promise to be a great album, and have even more hits than Beauty Behind The Madness or even Starboy could manage. xD

15) The 1975 - The Sound

365 pts / Peak: 1 (1 day) / 31 days on chart / 19 days in Top 10

This song was a powerhouse in August 2016. Had it not been for another juggernaut, it would've been the king. This little baby made it through the whole month, providing this wonderful retro indie sound that just makes you want to dance. This is a wonderful song!

14) Brave Shores - Never Come Down

370 pts / Peak: 2 / 27 days on chart / 22 days in Top 10

This song is an amazing ball of indiepop greatness. It's so full of energy that you can't help but dance along! The one thing that makes this one awkward is, I first found this clip through a meme where this song played to footage of Trump dancing... And it seems the band got into hot water after they had the clip taken down and said they don't support him. Because people can't just enjoy a nice song without being idiots... *sigh* Still, this song is good, and I'm hoping to see more from the Brave Shores in the future on my charts tongue.gif

13) Lifehouse - Somewhere In Between

371 pts / Peak: 1 (3 days) / 33 days on chart / 17 days in Top 10

This was the theme song to many a late night subway ride home in the fall of 2016. It's got a fairly laidback feel, but it also has a bit of an unsettled vibe, mainly because of the lyrics where the narrator is stuck "in between" tonight and tomorrow. Stuck in something he isn't sure about. It's a song about not feeling sure about where things are going to go. And as a professional day dreamer and worrywart, this song makes sense for me. tongue.gif

12) Saint Motel - Cold Cold Man

372 pts / Peak: 1 (2 days) / 34 days on chart / 18 days in Top 10

This is another nice upbeat song about being in love. The piano riff is what sells this one to me, and made this song stick to my mind. Though as always, the catchy chorus helps tongue.gif Great tune!

11) Madeon ft. Dan Smith - La Lune

385 pts / Peak: 1 (5 days) / 33 days on chart / 19 days in Top 10

This song was my introduction to Madeon (or maybe Pop Culture was, but this was his first song to chart). And it was a pretty nice one. I remembered Dan Smith from his minor hits he had over the years with Bastille in my charts (Icarus, Pompeii, Of The Night being the ones). So seeing this song with him in it was a nice sight, especially since it had been a long time since I had seen new content from them. Speaking of that, I still haven't really given Bastille's new album a shot. Maybe I should tongue.gif

---

AND THAT IS IT FOLKS! Next time, the Top 10! I'll try updating daily with one song until we hit the Number One Song of 2016!!

I remember you were a big fan of My Town earlier in the year, so maybe that could be your #1?

Alright, here we go! #10!!

10) deadmau5 ft. Chris James - The Veldt

389 pts / Peak: 3 / 45 days on chart / 15 days in Top 10

And here lies the most successful of the December 2015 crop! This song started off in January 2016 past its peak in December, falling off fairly quickly. But in May 2016, it recharted, and gave one of the best chart runs for a non #1 song! And frankly, this is a good one. It's not my favourite of the Top 10, but the song is so magical. I just can't help but feel optimistic about the beauty of the world, every time I hear it. And to think this is a song about a book where kids kill their dad with holograms of lions. tongue.gif

@PeteFromLeeds: It is true that I loved My Town. But will that be enough? You'll just have to wait and see! tongue.gif

Like the vocals in that deadmaus5 song, and the video is really good!

@PeteFromLeeds: Yes, this song is really pretty biggrin.gif

Okay so I guess I'll just go right to revealing the entire rest of the Top 10, since I took too long to get to it tongue.gif

9) David Bowie - Subterraneans

407 pts / Peak: 1 (8 days) / 33 days on chart / 22 days in Top 10

An amazing song. It was quite a surprise to find this (and Warszawa) in Low. They were very big tonal shifts for the album, but both were more than welcomed by me. This song in particular is haunting and really depressing. It was meant as a tribute to the people who were living in East Germany during the Cold War. Quite sad. sad.gif

8) David Bowie - Blackstar

434 pts / Peak: 1 (2 days) / 34 days on chart / 26 days in Top 10

As far as the songs from David Bowie's last album are concerned, this is my favourite. Though the first half is pretty neat, it's the 2nd, much slower and much more reserved, that really grabbed me. (I'm a blackstar, I'm a blackstar...)

7) Glass Tiger - My Town

476 pts / Peak: 1 (6 days) / 31 days on chart / 26 days in Top 10

This is easily a front runner for my favourite song of the year. It pulls off nostalgia so amazingly that I can't help but get caught up in the moment every time it comes up... Such a beautiful song!

6) SHIROCK - Calm Inside The Storm

489 pts / Peak: 1 (1 day) / 49 days on chart / 22 days in Top 10

This was one hell of a sleeper hit song, but one that I've grown to like. It's a cute song, but it stands among giants in this Top 10, and so it'll feel a bit out of place. tongue.gif

5) Christine and the Queens - Safe and Holy

498 pts / Peak: 1 (2 days) / 37 days on chart / 26 days in Top 10

Ironic that my favourite artist would have what is easily my least favourite song in this whole Top 10. It's not bad, but far from Christine's best. And like Calm Inside The Storm, it's in a sea of amazing songs, so it stands out quite badly.

4) Shura - 2Shy

553 pts / Peak: 1 (5 days) / 48 days on chart / 26 days in Top 10

Another contender for the best song of the year. The instrumental on this song is TOP NOTCH. It rolls gently like the waves of the ocean, and it's quite calming too. The lyrics of being too shy to say you like someone definitely connected with me too.

3) The Hooters - And We Danced

580 pts / Peak: 1 (4 days) / 51 days on chart / 28 days in Top 10

This is an AMAZING dance track. I fell in love the first time I heard it, and even now it still holds up as one of my favourites. Amazing song!

2) SHIROCK - Everything Burns

(No good youtube vid was found for this song, so only Spotify Link sad.gif )

734 pts / Peak: 1 (7 days) / 68 days on chart / 31 days in Top 10

Another best song contender. This song is in my opinion the KING of angst songs. It starts up with a build-up until the halfway mark, where it then drops a heart-wrenching guitar solo which culminates into my favourite musical moment of the year. This is an amazing song, check it out! And also check out the album by the same title, it's easily one of my favourites I've heard!

1) Lifehouse - Everything

1305 pts / Peak: 1 (10 days) / 96 days on chart / 71 days in Top 10

And here it is, the juggernaut of the year. It broke just about every singe record one could think of. Longest #1 run, longest stay in the charts... probably the largest number of re-entries. It even recharted last month (April 2017) and broke the 100 day barrier in that time. This tune is simply perfect, it encapsulates the feeling of being in love perfectly, and the lyrics clicked with me perfectly. Every part of this song is amazing, from the quiet buildup, the thunderous bridge, to the fall-out in the final chorus. I love this song so much. It's a shame Lifehouse haven't ever really made a song quite like this ever since... :/

===========

AND WE'RE DONE! Thank you to everyone for your patience with this, and I will see you for the 2017 countdown in about a year! I'll probably stick only to the Top 100 this time tongue.gif

See you around!
