Number 38s - The Results
Well, this one was always going to be interesting. Several all time classics here which shockingly never got higher than #38 in the 70s. But which one is the best - Fleetwood Mac, Shirley, The Clash, Pistols, Abba?...... In the meantime, nothin' for these: Gerry Monroe - Cry Richard Barnes - Go North Kenny - Give It To Me Now Charles Aznavour - The Old Fashioned Way Millican & Nesbitt - For Old Times Sake George McCrae - Sing A Happy Song Sylvia - Hasta La Vista Wigan's Ovation - Per-so-nal-ly Gary Glitter - Papa Oom Mow Mow Sensational Alex Harvey Band - Gamblin' Bar Room Blues Faith, Hope & Charity - Just One Look Surprise Sisters - La Booga Rooga Commodores - Too Hot To Trot/Zoom Child - When You Walk In The Room Mick Jackson - Weekend Voyage - Let's Fly Away As for the others: 2. Fleetwood Mac - Go Your Own Way 31 3. Shirley Bassey - Diamonds Are Forever 29 4. B.J Thomas - Raindrops Keep Fallin' On My Head 27 5. Richard Harris - MacArthur Park 26 6. The Clash - White Riot 25 7. Abba - I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do 18 8. Electric Light Orchestra - Strange Magic 17 9. Dean Parrish - I'm On My Way 10 Scaffold - Gin Gan Goolie 10 11. Billy Connolly - In The Brownies 9 Lenny Williams - Shoo Doo Fu Fu Ooh! 9 13. Martyn Ford Orchestra - Let Your Body Go Downtown 8 14. Dorothy Moore - Funny How Time Slips Away 7 15. Barry Biggs - Work All Day 6 16. Eric Clapton - Knockin' On Heaven's Door 5 17. Art Garfunkel - Since I Don't Have You 4 The Who - Summertime Blues 4 19. Fatback Band - Night Fever 3 George Harrison - You 3 21. Leif Garrett - Feel The Need 2 Guys 'N' Dolls - Stoney Ground 2 Diana Ross - Love Me 2 24. George Harrison - Ding Dong 1 Don McLean - Everyday 1 Perhaps not a complete surprise here, and rather fittingly, it won with 38 points: 1. Sex Pistols - Anarchy In The UK 38 The Ultimate 1970s Top 40: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Blondie - Hanging On The Telephone 6. Carpenters - (They Long To Be) Close To You 7. 8. 9. 10. 11. mmm loving the variety here, much wider than the 80's results. I expected a lot of punk, but to see Orchestral Prog rock, soul, funk, Easy listening, MOR gospel, New wave and some 60's classics to boot gives the list more kudos i think.
