QUOTE The Irish Mail on Sunday reports that Una Healy is top of the wish list for RTÉ to represent Ireland at the Eurovision Song Contest 2019. The Irish national broadcaster is hoping that The Saturdays singer Una Healy will represent her nation at Eurovision. At a recent “think-in” at RTÉ, the singer topped the list of the broadcasters wish list and is viewed as the perfect entry to follow Ryan O’Shaughnessy’s success in Lisbon, Portugal. According to the Irish Mail’s source; Una would be a great choice for Ireland’s Eurovision entry … She has an amazing voice and has years of experience performing live in front of thousands of people so nerves wouldn’t be a problem for her. Una also has previous experience on the Eurovision stage. In 2006, Una was a backing singer for Brian Kennedy when he represented Ireland with “Every Song Is a Cry For Love”. The source added that Una “knows exactly what to expect”. https://eurovoix.com/2018/12/16/una-healy-o...urovision-2019/ |

Hmmm...wouldn't be a totally out of kilter thing for Una to do. You could just imagine her promo interviews for it, with her rambling on about how she's loved Eurovision since she was 9 and getting all fiery about how Ireland haven't won it since the 90s etc
Nah, in all seriousness, she'd be a good choice, I loved Ryan's song he did this year. I think if she went for a relatively upbeat country pop number like 'Staring At The Moon' from her album that'd do well for a top 10 finish. |

This is exciting! It'd be great to see Una on the charts again, even if just in Ireland.

I'm surprised I didn't come across this rumor earlier. To be honest it's not at all unrealistic considering she's a pretty well known face in Ireland without actually having a big profile to risk or to demand a high check.
Now, I'm not sure she would be a great fit for the festival. I feel like she shines the most in intimate environments (after all her only solo hit is a ballad), where she can control her voice and make it sound beautiful, but it's not easy for a song like Strangers to grab much attention. Still I guess something like Battlelines or Never See Me Cry could also work. She probably wouldn't be able to make her schedule work with her new radio show though, even if it's only once a week. (Just realized that RTE has already chosen Sarah McTernan for Eurovision, still this applies to future editions as well). This post has been edited by DoggySwami: 16th March 2019, 02:27 AM |
