BuzzJack Music Forum _ Robbie Williams and Take That _ Gary Barlow - Incredible

Posted by: GhoulOdyssey 26th October 2020, 10:15 PM

The second single from MPBH, "Incredible" is being teased by Gary - hopefully it will be out this Friday!

Posted by: pippa 26th October 2020, 10:37 PM

Good news to hear of a new single.
A traditional Gary ballad would be welcomed.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 27th October 2020, 12:01 AM

I didnt expect a new single so quickly but I'm looking forward to hearing it.

Posted by: jay727 27th October 2020, 01:06 AM

Good idea to release another single! Hopefully this Friday! Also think it’ll be a power ballad

Posted by: Better Man 27th October 2020, 05:15 AM

There is a note 'swing' on a picture.

Posted by: pippa 27th October 2020, 01:42 PM

Does this refer to a swing sound?
I hope not.

Posted by: CloseDatMouf 27th October 2020, 02:25 PM

The chord progressions looks jazzy to me

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 27th October 2020, 07:03 PM

Im kinda disappointed if that is the case as i dont generally enjoy that type of music, im really starting to slightly worry im not going to enjoy this album at all.

Posted by: GhoulOdyssey 27th October 2020, 09:07 PM

I'm not a massive swing fan, but I'm not a massive fan of latin pop either and I love Elita!

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 27th October 2020, 10:28 PM

I like elita but not sure about an album of it, if true it will mean we have a Latin single and a swing single, hard to call album direction from that.

Posted by: pippa 28th October 2020, 12:48 AM

The new album from what we know of gives me Take That Wonderland vibes which isn't necessarily a compliment.
Average album lacking direction, identity and musical clarity.

We've only had 1 single! huh.gif

Posted by: jay727 28th October 2020, 03:58 AM

Yeah I think it’s definitely going to be a swing song, he’s performed a lot of swing sets and swing versions of old songs over the last few years. So direction wise, I think he has a clear road here and I’m looking forward to hearing what he’s got, I’m sure there’s some ballads on it too - he did mention how he understood fans do like the ballads they do and that there hasn’t been too many of them in recent material

Posted by: elisabeth1973 28th October 2020, 05:50 AM

is there any indication of pre sales?

Posted by: CloseDatMouf 28th October 2020, 05:40 PM

'Incredible' confirmed coming on Friday

Posted by: GhoulOdyssey 28th October 2020, 05:56 PM

Good to hear!

Posted by: jay727 28th October 2020, 08:05 PM

And it’s swing!

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 29th October 2020, 12:49 AM

Fits in very well for a Strictly performance but leaves me unexcited for it, im actually debating holding off buying the album straight off, usually i would be buying automatically but not so sure this time around. I have said this with recent Take That releases aswell i really miss the days when i was hugely excited for a take that or gary release, there was a a long run where i just loved everything they released but thats slipping away and i miss it.

Posted by: elisabeth1973 29th October 2020, 07:45 AM

They try to re-invent themselves. They know that the fans will always go to live performances as TT as well as Robbie have a certain reputation.
However the non-fan perception to buy music has dramatically decreased. If I only compare the Progress times with every single TT or Gary release since then in non-UK or Ireland countries it is a shame. They are rich enough though that they can experiment ...and hope that they hit the taste of the general buying public again. The same for all established artists.

Preview here! Sounds really good, it's definitely a swing song - but the modern pop production lifts it to something quite unique. Looking forward to hearing it all tomorrow!

Ya I agree especially in that they are rich enough to experiment but I think its alienating the fans. I'm a fan since their debut and up to progress loved it all, three had some really good moments and I love these days but since then it's been very hit and miss. As a solo artist Gary really found his groove with since I saw you last which is a brilliant album but he seems to have musically moved away from the material his fans loved and want.

Posted by: Tombo 29th October 2020, 01:07 PM

I’m not wildly over the moon about swing but Robbie did swing well on Swings Both Ways so maybe I’ll like it. I LOVE Elita. It is one of my favourite singles of the last few months

Posted by: CloseDatMouf 29th October 2020, 01:27 PM

Wow, it sounds better than I imagined. Excited to hear the full version tomorrow.

Posted by: CloseDatMouf 29th October 2020, 06:46 PM

Just heard the full version (because it's already Friday here) and it's surprisingly groovy. I like it!

Posted by: GhoulOdyssey 30th October 2020, 12:46 AM

Out now!

Posted by: Tombo 30th October 2020, 01:08 AM

I like it, it is cute, overall I prefer Elita but I definitely want to like Incredible enough to listen more smile.gif

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 30th October 2020, 02:00 AM

Dont like this at all.

Posted by: jay727 30th October 2020, 04:18 AM

I quite like it!

Posted by: GhoulOdyssey 30th October 2020, 08:57 AM

I'm really liking it! Looking forward to the video for this one

Posted by: elisabeth1973 30th October 2020, 09:23 AM

For me, Gary has a voice for huge tunes and ballads. I don't think he fits swing. The song as such is great....with Michael Buble singing it

Posted by: GhoulOdyssey 30th October 2020, 02:25 PM

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 30th October 2020, 04:38 PM

I dont think his voice suits swings, but is brill on big ballads.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 30th October 2020, 11:28 PM

Slow start, 68 on itunes.

Posted by: GhoulOdyssey 30th October 2020, 11:43 PM

Perhaps showing the benefit of a Radio 2 Thursday premiere tongue.gif

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 30th October 2020, 11:47 PM

Possibly, elita is still higher.

Posted by: pippa 31st October 2020, 01:00 PM

Incredible is an incredible disappointment.
Easily Gary's worst solo single.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 31st October 2020, 04:27 PM

Its def not what I was hoping for.

Posted by: GhoulOdyssey 31st October 2020, 05:07 PM

Incredible will be soundtracking the Argos Christmas advert this year!

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 31st October 2020, 05:13 PM

It is a good song for that type of marketing and will go down well on strictly if he can perform but it's not the type of song to do much chart wise. I'm really on the fence about buying the album now, il def be holding off buying it until I listen to the tracks online. If I continue to not really enjoy the music il wait to buy it when it's going cheap just to have for collection purposes.

Posted by: GhoulOdyssey 31st October 2020, 07:03 PM

The Argos advert is set to release tomorrow! I wonder what happened to those rumours last year that Take That would star in the M&S advert?

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 1st November 2020, 03:17 AM

I wonder will the argos add help give it a lift.

Posted by: milly 1st November 2020, 06:39 AM

I am not a big fan of swing either, but I LOVE Incredible. It's already stuck in my head. Personally, I am very excited about this album, cause, so far, I have been loving both singles. I am actually ok now with Gary and TT experimenting a bit more, cause I have been looking at other artists' progression over time and it's really boring to always be offered the same things. Even though we may not like everything Gary puts out, at least he keeps us guessing and he gives us diversity. I'd rather be surprised - positively or negatively - than bored. I have listened to Sam Smith's latest offerings and they certainly are no different from what he's done in the past. I'm sure Gary has some ballads on the album, that will satisfy the hardcore fans, but I believe he's releasing the right songs as singles, so far. From the comments I've seen, people enjoy the more uptempo, happy songs. You can't deny they're incredible tongue.gif

Posted by: elisabeth1973 1st November 2020, 07:56 AM

It is more a question if you want to see him/TT be successful. The majority of hard core fans do not like the changes and for the general public TT or even Gary are interesting live. If they buy an album is another question.

Posted by: milly 1st November 2020, 09:34 AM

I want to see him enjoy making music and performing. If being successful means puting out sex garbage like Ariana Grande, I'd rather he weren't successful. I admire people passionate about something, nut just chasing fame and money. If success comes from what Gary puts out, that's a bonus, if not, at least he has his dignity left.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 1st November 2020, 11:09 AM

Here it is! It'll be fantastic promo for it over the next 2 months

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 1st November 2020, 02:39 PM

The advert is having its TV debut tonight from 8pm during Family Fortunes!

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 1st November 2020, 03:41 PM

I'm in that category, I do of course want them to continue been successful but more importantly I want to enjoy what they release but to be fair up until recently both take that and Gary have provided me with a huge amount of music I love and I wouldd go and see either live in a flash as they are brilliant live. Will I continue buying albums I'm not so sure, up until now I'd have pre ordered the album without hesitation, now I'm.unsure if il even buy it.

Gary touched on this genre with Dare which is much superior to Incredible.

Posted by: milly 4th November 2020, 04:21 AM

But Dare is not swing, is it? I couldn't compare these 2 songs. cause they sound very different to me.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 4th November 2020, 10:33 AM

Yeah, Dare isn't even the same genre as Incredible

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 4th November 2020, 07:34 PM

I would prefer Dare to incredible and elita.

Posted by: pippa 5th November 2020, 12:34 AM

Dare was enjoyable.
An album full of it, I'm not sure.

Posted by: milly 5th November 2020, 07:02 AM

QUOTE(Feel_The_Fever @ Nov 4 2020, 10:34 PM) *
I would prefer Dare to incredible and elita.

But it”s nice cause we have so many options. You enjoy Dare, others enjoy Elita, others Incredible.... We don”t have to choose, cause there are plenty of options for everyone.

I would be over the moon with an entire album of Elita-like songs from Gary, although I am madly in love with the ballads he writes.
You must admit that Elita is opening a whole new market for Gary. The comment section is 90% South Americans, loving the song. I can understand that the Western Europe is not very used to this sound, but that doesn”t mean it”s not enjoyable. For me, it feels so familiar and nostalgic, in a way, that I can”t hep but perceive it as infectious and I am a bit disappointed to see that others don”t enjoy it as much. I certainly hope it grows on people.
Incredible is just....fun and catchy and Christmasy...it just puts a smile on my face.
Are there other songs of Gary”s I love more? Certainly. But that does not stop me from liking these ones as well. If they were bad songs, I could understand, but they are good songs, that deserve to be appreciated on their own and not put against others.

Posted by: elisabeth1973 5th November 2020, 09:25 AM

Milly, I am not following it in that detail, but when you say Elita opens a new market for Gary....does it pay off? Does Elita chart in these new markets?
I think it is a question in what you want: sell records or sell music. When artists like Gary, TT or Robbie have reached the almost legend status rarely a new kind of music outside of their core fans comfort zone pay off in records sell.
The last time it happened was Candy which most Rob fans hated but the general public loved. Only being interested and not buying is not really helpful in reference of success. Then it is only about a different style of music.

The last time it happened was Candy which most Rob fans hated but the general public loved. Only being interested and not buying is not really helpful in reference of success. Then it is only about a different style of music.

Selling records is a sign of success only in certain countries. I”m not sure people in South America are really record buyers, just like us, Romanians and many other people aren”t. I, personally, haven”t bought/downloaded one single Romanian song/album EVER. However, my buying Gary”s album counts towards UK sales, because I buy it either via Amazon.uk either via the official store and I know that most foreign fans do as well. We will never truly know the measure of the „success” of such artists in most countries, because fans never buy the records through national channels...or at all.
However, it”s enough to take a look at the comment section in Elita and then at the comment sections in all the other Gary/TT songs and you”ll see a massive difference in the target audience. I don”t know if that makes Gary successful or not in South America, but he has definitely reached this market to a certain degree.
I am, honestly, not that interested in the charts anymore, cause, since streaming happened and even before that, they have become a joke. Of course I would love Gary to be „successful” in that regard too, only because I know how vile media can be and how much people still enjoy to bash on Gary, no matter what the reason, but I am now at the point where I see chart success only as a bonus. For me, being interested, even if not buying, is much more important. You have to understand that, for most countries, buying a music album is a luxury. I am pretty sure countries in South America don”t fall under the „rich” countries category and do not have a reputation of music buyers, so you cannot ask more from them than mere interest. We would know if people there are real fans only if Gary put up concert tickets up for sale - there is no other way of measuring his „success” in such countries.

I don”t think you can really compare Elita to Candy. Candy was written with the specific intention of being a solely commercial song and of selling. Even if Gary co-wrote it, most adult fans cannot deny it”s trash. I don”t believe Elita can be labelled as such and it doesn”t mark just a change of style with the purpose of reaching a larger audience. I think Gary was well aware of the fact that he would alienate many of his UK fans with Elita, yet he went ahead with it, because he liked that musical direction, which shows integrity.

Posted by: elisabeth1973 5th November 2020, 06:01 PM

I agree in many of your thoughts, Milly. However artist want to be successful. Fans want their artists to be successful, at least this is what I want with the few I really like. Artists need to earn money, they do not earn money with album sales if they are not Adele. So it is about tours. I see that tours of Gary or TT did never sell somewhere outside UK or Ireland at least not to their standards. I wonder if this will be different because I do a song which sounds like a certain target group. Will he sell in Russia if he sings Russian?
There had been lots of Russian comments underneath Party like a Russian of Robbie. This did not make the song a success. Do Gary, TT or Rob still want success? I am sure. I think the success of Gary's album will show after the ITV special and I think this will pay off for him

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 5th November 2020, 06:57 PM

I think Gary would still want his solo music to be successful, he often talks about the lack of success for 12 months so i doubt he wants to ever experience that again. I understand some of the points though and Gary does like to be creative and there is no doubt he has been very creative with this album but whether people will appreciate the creativity is out of his hands.
