So... just found out that Spotify UK pays £520.80 for roughly 180k streams in the UK.
Do we know how many of these streams are from the UK? We could do some maths but ultimately, the totals from Melanie C album are around 8million streams worldwide, which if they were all UK streams, it would mean around £23,000 total (so many we dont need to make those maths cos it will be depressing as f*** lol) |

Out Out I think Spotify listeners in general have increased, both Sugababes and Girls Aloud have gained quite a lot more monthly average listeners in the last few months as well. |

Well, at least the vinyl and special editions would've added at least a bit on top of that, but yeah. It's virtually impossible to make a profit unless you tour these days.

Melanie C loses money on touring too. Her expenses are way higher than your average artist who is selling a few hundred tickets for each gig. She isn't touring round in a van, driving hundreds of miles across countries. She's paying for her band, flights, nice hotels etc, she isn't staying is hostels living off cereal.
She makes money through festivals, djing and those sorts of things where she can get travel, accommodation and such as part of the deal. |

While I highly doubt Melanie makes much if any money from her music, streaming isn't the only way she makes money from her music. She makes the majority of her money from the physicals as she is still very much a physical seller in terms of her sales and they will make a lot more money than streams especially those sold directly from her website and that ridiculously expensive £75 vinyl book. Melanie is quite savvy though why do you think she took up the DJing? She will make a fair buck from those appearances also she is no stranger to private gigs which she charges £160k for an hour plus travel expenses (I checked for my wedding in a pipe dream  )

Yeah I wouldnt worry about Melanie C not making money. She certainly at least covers costs of making the project (including her own income and company income to cover future projects) but just doesnt make much of profit, that's all.
The sales of the various editions of the album probably brought a bit of income too. For instance, just the book was charged at £75 and probably got her around £150,000 if she sold around 2000. Then all the other versions which also stack up. She is a well-toured artist, constantly doing private gigs, DJing, special appereances, etc. Plus, she has also dabbled in TV before which brings a bit of cash too. Her stint in The Voice will bring some nice income, for sure! But yes, streaming sales are terrible as they dont really represent the money that albums used to bring anymore. That doesnt necessarily mean that musicians should be paid multiple-millions of pounds. I personally dont think that millionaires need anymore millions whilst so many go hungry, but the drop that the industry faced in such a short space of time, was quite drastic. |

Thanks for those fantastic updates Jay! Very interesting. Part of me is disappoined Wannabe gets so much more streams compared to the others, at the same time it's obviously amazing to see they have this MASSIVE song.

I still think that she will do fairly well on physical sales though, didn't she sell 2k of those book vinyls thats £150,000 alone there, she has the benefit there that others don't in that she is actually a decent physicals seller compared to many other acts who rely mainly on streams so although her sales are a lot less she has the benefit of £10 a cd rather than £1 for however many streams. |
