BuzzJack Music Forum _ Taylor Swift _ 1989 • 5th album

Posted by: Ryan. 6th November 2013, 04:13 PM

Taylor Swift has revealed she has written a lot of new songs for her new album which based on her previous album release dates, we should expect to be released in Autumn 2014. 'Red' has been incredibly successful for Taylor which will have produced 8 UK top 40 hits (including 4 top 10 hits) for Taylor if 'The Last Time' goes top 40 this week as expected. I'm so excited to listen to a new album from Taylor and this is what she has said about it:

QUOTE
The 23-year-old popstar, who has been nominated for an incredible eight nominations at this year's American Country Awards, has revealed she has already penned “a lot” of songs for the new album.

In an interview with Capital FM, Swift explained: "Now that I've written a lot of songs for the next album, I'm dying for people to hear it. "It's so weird to be still promoting Red and I'm so proud of Red and I'm creating something that's so different from Red."

The 'I Knew You Were Trouble' singer is hoping her new music will take a different direction, as she explained: "It's so cool because I'm so appreciative of the success of 'Red' but I know that if I want to have success with something else I can't make 'Red 2.0'. “I have to make something completely new and something that if you were to hear a song from it you'd go 'Oh that's not from 'Red', that's from the new one'.”

The blonde beauty also confessed inspiration for her songs stemmed from all that has happened to her in the past 12 months or so.

"I'm so excited. There's so much that's happened in the last year and a half for me to draw inspiration from, that it's really going to be very interesting," she continued. "The only time that I ever get to really express to my fans what actually happened in my life is in my music. Anything that they might hear is a fictionalized version of it. "I don't talk in depth about my personal life in interviews, I don't do any of that, so the only place for people to really understand what I went through is in my songs.”

I've read that recently Taylor has been in the studio with various people including Ryan Tedder, Diane Warren, Max Martin and Johan Shellback! biggrin.gif

Expecting a lead single in May.

"Red" was good, but I want more country album. Somelthing like Shania's debut album.
Would she reached 4 millions mark in United States with this album ?
Last chance of music industry. smile.gif

Country wil get her big sales in the US, but she needs a bit of variety for worldwide success - that's why Red did so well.

Posted by: Liаm 17th February 2014, 03:52 PM

I do kinda miss Speak Now/Fearless Taylor but Red was her best album (just about, Fearless is also outstanding as is Speak Now) and there was at least Red/All Too Well/Holy Ground/Treacherous/Begin Again etc. for classic Taylor, and then I Knew You Were Trouble and We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together allowed for her to have massive WW hits. I think she's found a good niche where she can stay as one of the big pop females.

Posted by: d__ 17th February 2014, 03:54 PM

"Speak Now" and "Fearless" shat all over "Red".

Posted by: Ryan. 22nd May 2014, 02:35 PM

The latest rumour is that a single will be released at midnight after the final night of her Red tour next month. If this is true (which I find unlikely), that would mean the single would be released on June 13th and we know that 13 is Taylor's lucky number...

Just found this on ATRL:

New Taylor Swift album "mostly Max Martin"

Very exciting!

Posted by: Ryan. 2nd August 2014, 11:48 PM

Looks like we should expect a new Taylor single in the next couple of weeks if she is going to have it released prior to her performance at the MTV Video Music Awards on August 24th!

QUOTE
Taylor Swift may be spending most of her time in New York these days, but she'll be heading west at the end of next month.

I've just learned that the pop music superstar will perform at this year's MTV Video Music Awards in L.A.! Swift is planning an "explosive" performance for the Moonman extravaganza, one source said. Exact details are being kept under wraps, but I do know that Swift will be hitting the stage by herself. "It's not a collaboration with another singer," the source said.

So will Taylor be debuting a new song? We sure hope so!

Yesterday, Scott Borchetta (founder of Taylor's record label Big Machine Records) suddenly started replying to lots of tweets about Taylor's fifth album as well as giving us a few teasers! Reading ATRL, apparently the last time he did this before 'Red', the 'Red' announcement came very quickly afterwards so hopefully we could be getting some official announcements any day now! ohmy.gif

Posted by: Ryan. 4th August 2014, 08:28 PM

Taylor has posted our first clue presumably to do with a single or album on Instagram: http://instagram.com/p/rSJfxLDvH4/

She presses the #18 button 6 times so what could it mean? Is it too obvious that a single will premiere on August 18th at 6pm? (or 6am!)

I am so so excited for this, Taylor is definitely one of my favourite artists!

Posted by: Liаm 4th August 2014, 08:32 PM

She needs to just give us something instead of just teasing, I know Red was only two years ago but she always slays and new Taylor can never come soon enough.

He works for a company connected to Soundscan so is reliable! Although we could have probably all predicted this ourselves considering we know Taylor loves to involve the number 13!

Can't wait, she never fails to amaze me! Been waiting for this, hopefully a single very soon especially given she's performing at the VMAs.

Taylor has tweeted this image for our second clue!

I've merged the single topic back into this one for now as we have no idea if these clues are single or album-related! happy.gif

I'm not a fan but as an outsider I can say after her last albums success this could be one of the years biggest comebacks - her release strategy will be interesting - her last lead singles were OA/OS but I think most record companies even outside the uk have been told to hold singles back now so we might have to wait until October to actually own the new material sad.gif

I hope iTunes sort out what seems to be some sort of error as the album pre-order isn't showing up on any charts and we all know that it would be top 200 at least somewhere (and most likely top 10 nearly everywhere!).

Posted by: Ryan. 19th August 2014, 07:40 PM

That error is now sorted and the album is #1 on UK iTunes (and in many other countries too)! I can't believe how successful Taylor has become here, she's also done well with albums since 'Fearless' but this is a new level!

taylorswiftstore.co.uk has the CD up to pre-order and you can also get a mens or womens t-shirt with "Shake It Off" written on the front. Think I'm going to order the CD/t-shirt package biggrin.gif

Here is an absolutely fantastic article about Taylor by the Rolling Stone: http://www.rollingstone.com/music/features/taylor-swift-1989-cover-story-20140908

There's quite a few song titles in there and a lovely story about Taylor giving a fan money for her birthday! It'll make sense when you read it kink.gif

Posted by: J▲hq 8th September 2014, 04:46 PM

The interesting parts condensed;

QUOTE
Swift's focus on sisterhood cuts both ways, because when another woman crosses her, she's equally fierce about hitting back. The angriest song on 1989 is called "Bad Blood," and it's about another female artist Swift declines to name. "For years, I was never sure if we were friends or not," she says. "She would come up to me at awards shows and say something and walk away, and I would think, 'Are we friends, or did she just give me the harshest insult of my life?'" Then last year, the other star crossed a line. "She did something so horrible," Swift says. "I was like, 'Oh, we're just straight-up enemies.' And it wasn't even about a guy! It had to do with business. She basically tried to sabotage an entire arena tour. She tried to hire a bunch of people out from under me. And I'm surprisingly non-confrontational – you would not believe how much I hate conflict. So now I have to avoid her. It's awkward, and I don't like it."

Swift is still talking about "Bad Blood" when she starts to explain why she wants everyone to know it's about a female. "I know people will make it this big girl-fight thing," she says. "But I just want people to know it's not about a guy. You don't want to shade someone you used to date and make it seem like you hate him, when that's not the case. And I knew people would immediately be going in one direction—" As she suddenly realizes that she just accidentally referenced her ex-boyfriend's band, Swift goes white. She buries her face in her hands. "Why?!" she howls, cracking up. It's a classic Taylor Swift Surprised Face, only for real this time.

Swift won't say much about her relationship with Styles, other than that they're now friends. But talking to her, it seems clear that many of the songs on 1989 that are about a guy are about him. There's "I Wish You Would," about an ex who bought a house two blocks from hers (whom she implies was Styles). And "All You Had to Do Was Stay," about a guy who was never willing to commit (ditto). Then there's the song that sets a new high-water mark for Swiftian faux secrecy – a sexy Miami Vice-sounding throwback about a guy with slicked-back hair and a white T-shirt and a girl in a tight little skirt that is called – no joke – "Style." (She allows herself a satisfied grin. "We should have just called it 'I'm Not Even Sorry.'")

Of all the songs on the album that seem to be about Styles, the most intriguing one is "Out of the Woods." Co-written by Antonoff, it's a frantic tale of a relationship where, Swift says, "every day was a struggle. Forget making plans for life – we were just trying to make it to next week." The most interesting part comes when Swift sings, "Remember when you hit the brakes too soon/Twenty stitches in a hospital room." She says it was inspired by a snowmobile ride with an ex who lost control and wrecked it so badly that she saw her life flash before her eyes. Both of them had to go to the ER, although Swift wasn't hurt. She corrects herself: "Not as hurt."

Very intrigued by "Bad Blood" and who people will assume it's about. ohmy.gif

Katy on twitter: Watch out for the Regina Georde in sheep's clothe
ohmy.gif

Katy's dancers that left Taylor's tour already confirmed in 2013 they left because Katy asked them back after they toured with her for TD.

QUOTE
He left Tasmania for the US for what he thought would be a final concert with Perry to wrap up the Part of Me 3D movie and an audition to be a back-up dancer for Taylor Swift on her Red Tour. The audition scored him and two of Perry's other dancers a spot on the Red tour. ``I was with Taylor for the first six months,'' Brownlie said. ``It was a great experience and she's a great person to work with, but then Katy contacted us.'' Perry contacted her three former dancers to say she was releasing another album (Prism ) and wanted them to join her on a second world tour. Brownlie spent 10 months in 2011 touring with Perry for her California Dreams world tour. ``Obviously we were with Katy for 2 1/2 years, she's like family to us, so we were, like, `absolutely','' Brownlie said. ``We weren't really dancing in Taylor's tour anyway so I had got a little bored and I really wanted to do a promo tour.'' Working with two different artist was interesting for Brownlie.``The experiences were completely different,'' he said. `Taylor is very untouchable. ``When we did see her, we had so much fun with her, but she's a lot more protected than Katy. ``Katy's 28 now and can do her own thing. ``Her team are so lovely, so we have such a good connection. And this time around she is a lot more in control.'' As part of Perry's promo tour, the crew has taken in numerous countries including Australia, Japan, Tokyo and The Netherlands just in one week. They will continue the promo tour until the full Prism tour starts in May

wub.gif wub.gif JUST STUNNING

Posted by: Ryan. 14th October 2014, 11:26 AM

Incredible, I love the way it builds through the song and how it produces such a frantic atmosphere with the repetition and production, something Taylor has said was her aim. Her songwriting is once again amazing and shows why, in my opinion, she has that extra something special compared to the other "pop girls" of today as well as making Taylor's pop songs still just as much Taylor as her country songs.

The reaction worldwide when looking at album pre-order is sensational (it is top 3 in the UK for example and #1 in Australia!), I think this album (and singles) could be as big, if not bigger, than the 'Teenage Dream' campaign. I assume 'Out of the Woods' will be made available here at midnight maybe, hopefully it's very soon!

'Teenage Dream' was one of the most successful campaigns ever in terms of singles. Even if you're talking UK-only, Taylor would need four more 300k+ selling top ten hits (three of them being post-album), and that's without taking into account Katy's re-release which produced two more. She'd also need to sell over a million albums, which she hasn't got near to doing with 'Red' or anything else. As for the US, I can't see anyone touching MJ/Katy's five #1 record but admittedly Taylor has the potential to outsell the album there, i.e. sell three million+.

I just think it's a highly ambitious standard to achieve, especially regarding singles!

Posted by: Ryan. 14th October 2014, 05:47 PM

I was just talking more generally worldwide really. 'Teenage Dream' has sold 5.7 million albums worldwide apparently, while 'Red' is on 4.2 million (if I'm to believe Wikipedia). I think '1989' is definitely going to be Taylor's most successful album worldwide, so that would immediately put '1989' into the 5 to 6 million sales region (without a re-release which will have inflated Katy's sales too of course). Then singles-wise, I'd say 'Shake It Off' is getting quite close (although not quite matching it of course) to the success of 'California Gurls' when talking about general worldwide success and then there's no reason why Taylor couldn't have another 4 or 5 singles that go top 10 all over the world - 'I Knew You Were Trouble' and to a lesser extent '22' showed that there's definitely potential for lots of successful Taylor post-album singles from an album but of course she ran out of pop singles to release from 'Red' which she'll have no problem with on '1989'. Of course it'll be nearly impossible to match the record of 5 #1s from an album, but that's US-specific whereas I was just referring to general worldwide success.

Of course it's very ambitious but I think Taylor could get very close to the success of it, if not matching it. We can hope anyway! happy.gif

You're assuming there that her US sales won't drop at all despite her completely abandoning her country roots for the first time.

As for the rest, I think you're being very idealistic and optimistic about post-album singles but we'll have to agree to disagree I suppose!

Out Of The Woods is I think Taylor's most succesful promo single yet and her album is very high on the pre-orders around the world.
She'll most likely break the 1 million barrier and continue selling

Out Of The Woods is less abysmal than Shake It Off, but still pretty awful.

Posted by: Ryan. 14th October 2014, 10:30 PM

Taylor has been amazing once again regarding communication with fans and wrote a special message on her Tumblr page for UK fans about why we haven't been able to get 'Out of the Woods' yet:

QUOTE
To all my wonderful UK fans,

I realize that you are not yet able to get ‘Out Of The Woods’ due to a new strategy my record label is working on in the UK. I’ve never been one to hold my music back from any of you so I will be watching closely to see if this is ultimately a better experience for you, the fans.

My good friend Ed Sheeran utilized the same strategy with ‘One’ in the UK and he seemed very happy with the feedback from his fans.

But, ultimately, it’s down to you. Let me know.

Peace out.
Taylor/Natalie/Becky

Interesting!

The "same strategy" as Ed used with 'One' is the interesting bit. So that means her label wants 'Out of the Woods' to be the first instant grat (and therefore be eligible to chart), so could the plan be to wait until Sunday, remove 'Shake It Off' as an instant grat (and put it up as a standalone single) and then make 'Out of the Woods' the only instant grat from the album? That's all I can think of if they want to use the same strategy as Ed did with 'One'.

Posted by: gooddelta 14th October 2014, 10:39 PM

I know she has no say over it but I don't see how holding music back can ever be a good strategy/experience for the fans? What do they gain from waiting for ages for a song to be released, the joy of seeing it chart a few places higher - do more than 1% of an act's fanbase even care where an album track/instant grat charts? laugh.gif

I long for a time when we don't have to wait weeks or more often months after EVERY other country in the world to get hold of certain songs.[/steve201stylerantover]

Posted by: Jonjo 14th October 2014, 10:41 PM

'Out Of The Woods' is absolutely brilliant! Quite possibly my favourite of hers already! If this is supposed to be the song that best represents the album... consider me as a new STAN! FUUUUUCK. SO GOOD.

Posted by: Ryan. 14th October 2014, 10:43 PM

It sounds a bit like her record label suggested it and Taylor has reluctantly agreed, or is happy to try something different for a change (as we know she hasn't held anything back since 'We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together' which was only held back a few days of course), but is very prepared to cancel the change if her fans aren't happy. I believe Taylor when she says she'll be watching closely to make sure us fans are happy, although I do agree that it does seem like there isn't going to be any sort of benefit. We'll see!

I am so stuck whether to buy the album on ITunes or physical copy
The problem with ITunes is I love physical copy albums and I want the booklet and messages that Taylor puts in albums and the problem with physical copy is that it will probably only be the standard version and not deluxe.

Should I get ITunes now + physical for Christmas? Should I just get physical? Should I just get ITunes? Should I just get physical and buy the deluxe songs I like on ITunes?
I am so stuck sad.gif

Posted by: Jonjo 14th October 2014, 10:47 PM

I can see stores stocking both the standard and deluxe versions of her album (especially with it being Taylor). Unless you're talking strictly supermarkets (who rarely (if ever) stock deluxe versions of any album.) They should just make it the deluxe version only for the UK fans, like Kelly C did for 'Stronger'!

Posted by: Ryan. 14th October 2014, 10:48 PM

I always favour physical copies over digital copies, I've only ever bought 1 or 2 full-length albums digitally. And like you say, Taylor physical copies are special regarding the booklet messages and of course this time we get the special set of 13 photo prints!

Is there a reason you can't get the deluxe physical album, is it the extra cost?

Posted by: Juranamo 14th October 2014, 10:51 PM

I'm sure most artists release both a standard and deluxe physical copy these days too? Could you not purchase the deluxe CD? (Or is Taylor not releasing the deluxe as a CD?)

When I want to buy an album on release, I go to my nearest Sainsburys as my HMV half an hour away closed last year. They literally never have the deluxe copies but I think I might go and check there just in case and if not i'll find something somewhere eventually

Ah right I see your problem as like Jonjo says, only HMV seem to stock deluxe copies. There's the option of buying the deluxe on Amazon, but of course I don't know if that's a possibility for you. Otherwise maybe the best bet could be too get the standard physical (so you get the booklet and the photo prints) and then buy the extra tracks from iTunes but that could become quite expensive! Three of them are voice memos though of course so they might not be essential to download, so it might not work out too expensive.

Posted by: Jonjo 14th October 2014, 11:48 PM

I would possibly suggest ordering it online from somewhere. Not only do you get the deluxe CD, but more often than not, they ship it out early and you end up getting it the Friday or Saturday before release! (Happened a fair amount of times for me!) They won't charge you for the CD until they have shipped it out to you, either! biggrin.gif

"Out of the Woods" is so good! I'm loving the direction of the album, it was a bold move for Taylor to label this her "first documented pop album" but it's clearly not backfired on her. The sound works so well with her (not that Red was particularly un-pop, but the country influences were still there). I can't wait to hear the full album!

Is the standard edition 13 tracks and the deluxe 16 then?

I think so (in terms of originals), plus three demo/acoustic versions on the deluxe to take it up to 19 overall.

Out Of The Woods is one of her best already wub.gif

Posted by: DonaldDuck 16th October 2014, 12:03 AM

Her album is #02 in the United Kingdom on iTunes for almost 24 hours, I've never seen a pre-order hold up so well ohmy.gif. Could we be expecting better opening sales than Red? ohmy.gif.

'Taylor is also 8% ahead of One Direction, hopefully that increases to around 15 tomorrow in order for her having a chance of getting a new peak which I'm quite confident she should be able to.

Posted by: Ryan. 16th October 2014, 03:45 PM

So the song length for Track 1 has now been changed on iTunes, so this should be the next promo single as the same happened with 'Out of the Woods' last week! As far as we are aware it's the Ryan Tedder collaboration that is apparently about Taylor moving to New York. ATRL are speculating that it is even called 'Welcome to New York' but we'll see.

Also we now have lyric teasers for...

Posted by: Ryan. 19th October 2014, 12:06 AM

'Shake It Off' is the UK instant grat so I'm assuming her plan is just to not make them available at all in the hope they will chart highly on album release? I'm not sure what this "UK strategy" is but I can't see it being an improvement on just making them available and having them ineligible for a week or two.

On the whole, it's better than I expected but that's not really saying much. It's all pretty average minus a couple of songs.

08.0 Welcome to New York
04.5 Blank Space
09.0 Style
10.0 Out of the Woods
08.5 All You Had to Do
06.5 Shake It Off
07.0 I Wish You Would
06.0 Bad Blood
08.0 Wildest Dreams
07.0 How You Get the Girl
06.5 This Love
09.0 I Know Places
07.0 Clean

11.0 Wonderland
07.0 You R In Love
07.5 New Romance

'Wonderland' slays everything though, so so good wub.gif

I tried to wait for Monday but caved and listened to the leak less than 12 hours after I saw it had leaked drama.gif Willpower is definitely not my strong point sad.gif

11 Welcome to New York (I can't at people saying it's the worst track on here... It's just amazing, I love the 80s synths so much - they just overwhelm me with joy and euphoria <3)
08 Blank Space
10 Style (FAB. Reminds me a bit of a more fun sounding Love Me Harder)
10 Out of the Woods (it really grew me since last week, when I would have "only" given it a 9)
08.5 All You Had to Do Was Stay
10 Shake It Off
08 I Wish You Would
08 Bad Blood
08 Wildest Dreams
09.5 How You Get the Girl
06 This Love
10 I Know Places
07.5 Clean

10 Wonderland
05 You R In Love
09.5 New Romance

It's very close between Shake It Off, Wonderland, Style and Welcome To New York for my favourite track but it has to be the latter <3 Rhe album isn't as joyously 80s but the influences are most definitely there subtly. Very very good overall, not disappointed at all and this is why she's my fave wub.gif The fact there are two big filler tracks - You R In Love and This Love - is my only qualm but I guess most albums have that tongue.gif

Posted by: JosephStyles 25th October 2014, 12:13 AM

10.0 Welcome to New York
09.0 Blank Space
08.5 Style
09.0 Out of the Woods

11.0 Shake It Off - has the benefit of time though
08.0 I Wish You Would
10.0 Bad Blood
10.0 Wildest Dreams
10.0 How You Get the Girl
- this run of three tracks is absolutely FLAWLESS.
07.5 This Love
09.0 I Know Places
08.0 Clean

10.0 Wonderland
09.0 You R In Love
09.0 New Romance

SO STRONG. Such a loony rate but it's more consistent than Red for me (that had a few duds on first listen although now I'd only call Sad Beautiful Tragic and Treacherous "duds" as such), not a single dud and it all works so well together. Was very surprised at no WANEGBT/22 style pop tracks, especially when she called this her first proper "pop" album, but not complaining at all as what we got was AMAZING.

My rate

10 Welcome To New York
10 Out Of The Woods
11 Shake It Off

Now it's time for me to not give in and wait to hear the album on Monday smile.gif

Christ, most Swifties are going MENTAL over the leak drama.gif If you listen you have "betrayed Taylor's trust" and you "can't be forgiven"... I get why people are anti-leaks and I know Taylor is really proud of this and is probably a little pissed it leaked but virtually all big pop albums leak, it's just so annoying they're all on their high horse about it. It's like "wow I can wait two days longer than you for an album I'm the height of morality" laugh.gif I am still buying the album, I am still supporting the era and I still adore Taylor with all my heart - that doesn't change because I listened to some tracks early.

This is why I can never be part of a proper "fanbase" in the way most are, even for those artists I adore who are my faves they're usually just too much...

Posted by: Jonjo 25th October 2014, 12:58 AM

It hasn't "leaked" though, has it? unsure.gif It got released in other countries didn't it? ohmy.gif

Posted by: Ryan. 25th October 2014, 01:09 AM

I don't think so, the worldwide iTunes release date is October 28th - at least it is for Australia where it is yet to be released.

So so excited to listen to this album, 'Welcome To New York' is fantastic - the way Taylor sings the "dance to this beat forever more" lyric in the chorus in particular is just incredible.

Posted by: Liаm 25th October 2014, 01:11 AM

It seems to be the 27th/28th everywhere despite the fact loads of countries (Australia for one) usually have their release dates on a Friday, hmm... So yes it does seem to have leaked in the "true" sense.

Posted by: Ryan. 25th October 2014, 01:24 AM

I guess the physical CD release could still have been today, I'm sure someone will have posted whether it was somewhere on the web.

I did see loads of stuff on twitter about a girl who apparently bought 1989 from a store who mistakenly released it early (didn't actually see her tweet, just people talking about it), if they did then other copies would have been sold obviously and it's not too far outside the realms of belief that someone would upload it online! I think this was in America but idk.

There could be physical copies released WW I guess given that so many countries have Friday as their release day.

But 1989 is out on Monday in America, so why isn't it out here on iTunes until Tuesday? :/

Posted by: Jack 25th October 2014, 02:22 PM

Struggling to see why Wonderland is only a bonus track, it is incredible.

Other favourites are I Know Places, Wildest Dreams and Style.

Posted by: ░░░░ 25th October 2014, 04:12 PM

this album is so much fun. it's an invariable pastiche of other very blog friendly musicians but max martin as we all know writes an excellent chorus and produces excellent music. the best euphoric pop producer.

'out of the woods', 'all you had to do was stay', 'how you get the girl' and 'wonderland' are early favs.

NOT BEING FUNNY but 'bad blood' sounds like karaoke avril and 'wildest dreams' sounds like a lana tribute act.

Posted by: Garyy 26th October 2014, 01:46 PM

Not heard the album yet, going to buy it. But 'Out Of The Woods' is FCUKING amazing. Anthem tbh.

Posted by: zeze88 26th October 2014, 06:26 PM

Since I listened to the entire album, I will leave my two cents about it.

Her new album is great, even if it is pop. This isn't drastically different than Red, that album was more pop than country so I don't know why so many are shocked by her decision. There are songs like Wildest Dreams, This Love, Clean, How You Get The Girl and You Are In Love which could have easily been on Red, those songs aren't so different. However, even if the songs like Blank Space and I Know Places which are melodically very different, they are lyrically still very interesting and strong, especially Blank Spaces because she basically makes fun of the media and the image she has (writing about ex-boyfriends).

My point is, this is still Taylor, even if she changed her style because most of her songs are still lyrically interesting and strong - I mean, You Are In Love is a beautiful love song. In fact, ONLY Shake It Off is catchy fun pop song, the rest is more deeper than that.

Also, who cares if the songs are about Harry Styles? Some people are really too worked up about it. She always wrote songs about her ex-boyfriends, nothing new about that. I actually think only Out Of The Woods and Style are directly about him. However, I always hated that people analyzed her songs just so they could figure about who is the song about - it doesn't matter whom the song is about, not really.

Honestly, if people could just ignore the fact that she went from country to pop, they would see it is a very good album. It actually annoys me that many are acting like she did some crime just because she went pop. So what? She has the right to do so, its obviously something she wanted to do for a while since Red was more pop and country anyway. Artist has the right to do what he/she wants, who says she will never do country again? People are just exaggerating, she still is making good music even if it isn't country.

And you know what? I also commend her for truly embracing the 80s sound. Because when I heard Shake It Off, I was thinking she doesn't know what she is talking about if she thinks this represents 80s music. But truly, every other song in its melody is heavily influenced by 80s music. In fact, this album is more cohesive and consistent than Red, everything is put together nicely.

This is not country, BUT I will defend Taylor on her decision because she still made good music. At least this time she said she is going pop, unlike Red which was a mixture, but it was mostly pop.

Posted by: Ryan. 26th October 2014, 07:08 PM

I listened to the album for the first time late Friday night and thought it was pretty good, although I was so tired at the time I couldn't really enjoy it as much as I wanted to as I'd just got back home after travelling all day on flights, buses and trains! laugh.gif Now I've finally had chance to listen to the album again and it is absolutely fantastic. Every song is so catchy, the production is just so full and interesting and I just want to keep listening to it. My stand-out track from my first (half-asleep kink.gif) listen was 'How You Get The Girl', and that is still one of the stand-outs but there are so many good tracks its hard to choose. Can't wait to get the CD tomorrow (assuming the CD isn't held back till the 28th) so I can listen to that! wub.gif

Also, the Voice Memo tracks are so so interesting - I'd love to listen to a whole album of the voice memos and Taylor talking about them - a fantastic unique idea from her.

out of interest who has been questioning her for going pop? it's something that's popped up everywhere but i don't know who is leading this contingent? she's basically been a pop star for two records already.

nor would i say any of this is particularly deep. it's all rather lightweight pop with bog standard max martin production; which don't get me wrong is good quality pop but very sugar-spun and glossy.

i don't particularly see the 80s influences either, on a few tracks yes but if anything i get the sense that this record has been more influenced by blog-pop than anything else. pretty much every track reminds me of someone else 'blank space' is eerily similar to lorde, particularly 'team' splicing at six pence none the richer at the chorus, the intro into 'style' is very much a 'ain't nobody' riff, 'bad blood' sounds more like avril lavigne, 'wildest moments' is lana karaoke. these moments when few and far between are fine but when they build up across a record it feels like there isn't much sense of who the artist is.

for all that criticism it's a pleasant enough listen but not a great martin record in the ilk of perry etc

I have seen many comments from fans who are very bitter she went country. I agree she has been doing pop for a while so I don't get shock and anger some fans are feeling. When I said the songs are deeper, I meant they are a lot more mature than Shake It Off, thats all. The lyrics are all pretty much the same, she sings about love, heartbreak...

However, I definitely felt 80s vibe throughout the entire album, I don't know, maybe thats just me... Also, I definitely think this is better than what Katy Perry is doing.

Posted by: barbaric_dan 26th October 2014, 10:15 PM

To be fair she really has never been a country singer but a pop star with country influences.

Posted by: Ryan. 26th October 2014, 10:21 PM

Taylor's first album was definitely a country album, and she was definitely only a country singer then. 'Fearless' was still country but a couple of the singles did start to have pop influences. I'd also say 'Speak Now' was just about a full country album as well - probably more country than 'Fearless'. Only with 'Red' did the pop start to become a very significant influence in some of the tracks.

Posted by: Cremey_SZN 26th October 2014, 10:39 PM

After a couple of listens I'd say this is a far stronger album than the mess that was 'Prism'.

'Welcome to New York', 'Out of the Woods', 'All You Had to Do Was Stay', 'Wildest Dreams' and 'I Know Places' are the standouts for me at the moment. A few duds in 'I Wish You Would', 'This Love' and 'You Are in Love' but I'd say it's a pretty strong album for what it is.

Still nothing as good as 'I Knew You Were Trouble' though!

I dragged my mom to a US chain called Target (the only place to get the deluxe edition of 1989) right at opening and snagged the first copy available! The album is my favorite this year, by far.

Posted by: gooddelta 27th October 2014, 02:51 PM

I listened to this album for the first time this afternoon and on first listen, I like the album but I don't think it's as good as Red. At the moment, stand out tracks for me are:
- Welcome to New York
- Blank Space
- Style
- Out of the Woods
- Wildest Dreams
- Wonderland

Hoping more will grow on me with another listen.

I went into listening to a few tracks as someone who dislikes Taylor lmao I know wtf but apart from her personality, her music can be incredible! I've only listened to a few tracks but Welcome To New York and Wildest Dreams are great! Whoever chose Shake It Off to be lead single when those tracks are levels ahead is an idiot but I guess it's worked well for sales and whatever but Wildest Dreams is amazing, sounds like a Lana Del Rey song!

Out Of The Woods doesn't live up the speculation unfortunately and Bad Blood's chorus is terrible/cheesy but the verses are insanely good and the bridge is the best bit, feels like Ella's Ghost (with the chorus being insane and the verses not feeling right) I can't wait to hear more tracks tbh (especially Style and Clean)

It will likely become the 6th song to get an 11 (bad blood is an 11 now also). It is really close. I just did my iTunes update in my personal chart thread. WTNY is 11th

Random comment but the album booklet is the nicest I've seen this year. Lovely paper (sorry, print geek observation), clear text, soft but effective colours, great pictures and the foreword is really interesting to read too. Love the included wallet of photos too. This is definitely an album worth buying physically.

I fully endorse the concept of this album ('screw the personal emo bull and stuff each song with about 10 hooks' realness). Based on a few listens;

09 Welcome To New York
09 Blank Space
09 Style
10 Out Of The Woods
08 All You Had To Do Was Stay
10 Shake It Off
09 I Wish You Would
07 Bad Blood
09 Wildest Dreams
08 How You Get The Girl
06 This Love
07 I Know Places
11 Clean
08 Wonderland
06 You R in Love
06 New Romance

Clean is my clear favourite <3 (single please!).

I'm not sure it's as strong as 'Bangerz' for me, but I guess time will tell. Certainly the second best mainstream pop album since 'Teenage Dream' at least though, although to be fair, that's not that hard when Britney, Gaga, Katy and Rihanna have all been releasing sub-par albums. Ready for Rihanna's next album to truly BRING IT.

Wildest Dreams would slot perfectly onto Born To Die, no question; she had to be listening to a lot of Lana around the time of writing this, I mean it's Lana to a T. Even the opening line matches the "let's get out of this town baby we're on fire" opening line to Lana's The Lucky Ones.

Although it should be sued for plagiarism (laugh.gif) it's so Lana that I ADORE it, by far my favourite of the bunch yet. wub.gif

07.0 Welcome to New York
08.0 Blank Space
08.5 Style
10.0 Out of the Woods
09.0 All You Had to Do Was Stay
09.0 Shake It Off
09.0 I Wish You Would
09.0 Bad Blood
09.0 Wildest Dreams
09.0 How You Get the Girl
09.0 This Love
09.5 I Know Places
08.0 Clean

10.0 Wonderland
08.5 You Are in Love
10.0 New Romantics

The two Tedder tracks couldn't be more different. I think "Welcome To New York" is one of the most basic songs on the album (and my least favourite) whereas I find "I Know Places" to be one of the most intriguing. "Wonderland" and "New Romantics" are battling hard to displace "Out Of The Woods" as my top track.

Disappointed that "Blank Space" is seemingly the next single as I prefer the majority of the other songs. laugh.gif The verses don't really live up to the chorus for me.

It might actually be the smart option. They probably know that like Roar, Shake it Off is so huge it will block the second single from smashing. So they're saving the obvious smash for third, a la Dark Horse.

Just as long as Wildest Dreams is released at some point. What a song.

Taylor Unstoppable!

Posted by: J▲hq 3rd November 2014, 02:33 PM

She's announced a bunch of US and Canadian tour dates for next summer along with a couple for the UK!

Tuesday 23rd June - SSE Hydro, Glasgow
Wednesday 24th June - Phones 4u Arena, Manchester
Saturday 27th June - Hyde Park, London [headlining British Summer Time]

Posted by: Neil 3rd November 2014, 06:51 PM

Aah so excited! I went to her Fearless Tour but wasn't able to make the last 2, will definitely be going to the Manchester show.

Posted by: Ryan. 4th November 2014, 12:15 AM

I really want to see Taylor live so I may look into going to the Manchester show, but I guess tickets will be snapped up in a matter of minutes once they are on sale! Hopefully she'll add a few more dates too.

Also, Spotify seem to be desperate to get Taylor back on their service - they've been tweeting her, starting a Twitter campaign and even created a playlist called "What To Play While Taylor's Away"! laugh.gif

Posted by: Ryan. 4th November 2014, 09:55 PM

Hits Daily Double have revealed that Taylor sold 1.316 million copies in the US last week, just 3,000 less than Britney's record! ohmy.gif Although there are often differences between HDD's totals and the final Billboard totals (Slipknot's album sales increased by 5,000 last week) so could there still be a chance?

Whatever happens, absolutely phenomenal sales from Taylor!

Posted by: #IMPACT!! 4th November 2014, 10:12 PM

Such a flop sad.gif

Wanted her to snatch that record!

Posted by: Cameron 4th November 2014, 10:54 PM

Out Of The Woods is by far my favourite track on the album!

Posted by: -Jay- 5th November 2014, 03:38 AM

Billboard have revealed that '1989' has debuted with 1.287 million sales: https://twitter.com/billboard/status/529835026008244225 so Taylor hasn't broken Britney's 'Oops!... I Did It Again' record. Still, tremendous sales in this day and age!

Posted by: Timmy SZN 5th November 2014, 05:50 AM

Wow amazing sales! I didn't quite expect her to break the record, but DAMN she was close

Posted by: Liаm 5th November 2014, 01:11 PM

Wow that's phenomenal even if she didn't break the record! I didn't quite think she would as nobody can reach the euphoria and hysteria of Britney mania as was said a page or two ago, although she was hella close ohmy.gif Especially given that not one album up to now has gone platinum, she's by far the best seller of the year just in one week!

Posted by: -Jay- 26th November 2014, 02:42 AM

I'd say this was my album of the year! ohmy.gif Never bothered to listen to any Taylor album before this one, having only liked a handful of her singles - so this is quite a turnaround! So many fantastic tracks. wub.gif

Kind of surprised to see some negativity towards 'Welcome To New York' from some, that's easily one of my favourites. 'Style', 'Out Of The Woods', 'All You Had To Do Was Stay' and 'Wildest Dreams' probably make up the rest of my Top 5 album tracks.

'Wonderland' and 'New Romantics' are way too good to be bonus tracks. Weaker moments on the album for me are 'How You Get The Girl', 'This Love' and 'I Know Places', but still 7/10 moments. I'd have demoted a couple of those to be bonus tracks instead.

Posted by: JosephStyles 26th November 2014, 08:15 AM

How You Get The Girl is one of my favourites ohmy.gif Totally agreed on Wonderland though, that deserves single treatment sad.gif

This is the first time i have given a Taylor Swift album a listen and i'm very very impressed.

My highlight is easily 'Wildest Dreams', what a beauty wub.gif

Posted by: Timmy TheSnowman 3rd December 2014, 01:48 PM

You missed out with Red big time then!

Posted by: Jonjo 3rd December 2014, 01:49 PM

Mehhhh. This album >>>>>>>>>>>> 'Red' (and I really like 'Red'!)

Posted by: Timmy TheSnowman 3rd December 2014, 01:51 PM

Red is still rather flawless tho, so he missed out regardless

Posted by: Conderella 3rd December 2014, 02:20 PM

is Red like deleted from the internet entirely and all physical copies in existence self-destructed or something? because, you know, albums can still be listened to years after their release. I KNOW this theory sounds like the whole earth is not flat!!1 thing but i swear it's true

Posted by: Timmy TheSnowman 3rd December 2014, 02:53 PM

Yes.

(Imeant that he missed out big time for the past 2 years bye)

Posted by: ClausofKubrick 3rd December 2014, 11:23 PM

I will get onto checking out her earlier stuff for sure! Starting with 'Red'.

Can't quite get over 'Wildest Dreams' for now though. It's everything i want in a song - the right amount of pain, vulnerability, optimism and beauty. cry.gif Absolutely stunning.

'Without You' is my favourite song from Lana so that comparison is very apt and helps explain why i am obsessed with both tongue.gif

this albuma has gotten better with repeated plays, a truly amazing pop record that'll go down as a classic.

p.s. 'wonderland' and especially 'new romantics' are my favourites. nr is as good as pure song gets pretty much ohmy.gif

BTW New Romantics and Wonderland were the only two of the bonus tracks I bothered with and agree they're among the strongest on the record, am I missing anything with the other?

it doesn't really have a weak moment does it? the ballads don't match up with the uptempos but that's a small overnight. quite why 'new romantics' and 'wonderland' aren't on the main record i'm not sure, it'd really accelerate it into being one of the best pop records of the last 20 years. here's hoping there's an outside chance that one can become a single way down the line.

'you are in love' is good lyrically but not one of the highlights still 7/10, i can zippy it to you if you like?

Posted by: Ryan. 23rd December 2014, 01:36 AM

Definitely one of my favourite albums ever, and I agree that 'New Romantics' in particular is one of the best deluxe bonus tracks ever surely? And yes you should make sure you nominate 'New Romantics' (and 'Wonderland' too I suppose) in the Pop Forum Awards for best song relegated to a deluxe bonus track happy.gif

I said earlier in the thread that I thought that this era could be as big as 'Teenage Dream' and while many disagreed and I was being pretty optimistic myself although I did have faith it could do it, it does look like this could be even bigger than the 'Teenage Dream' era! ohmy.gif And I really believe 'Style', if that does become the next single as rumoured, could be her first UK #1 depending if there's a quiet week or two with no big releases in Q1 next year!

'style' seems to be a firm favourite away from here so wouldn't surprise me to see it do well, surely followed by 'out of the woods' and then 'wildest dreams' or 'all you had to do was stay' or even a bonus track. so many options!

Posted by: mr_aly 23rd December 2014, 01:50 AM

I think as long as she's refusing to put her music on streaming services, she's not going to get a UK #1 single to her name (unless she unleashes a monster lead single for the next era). 'Style' would be fully deserving of being her first #1 though, it's just a pure pop gem that keeps improving on further listens.

I think this should definitely push for top 5, but she's arguably the biggest name in the world right now so none of this matters in the grand scheme of things.

Indeed, like you suggest there are plenty of options and I'd definitely add 'Bad Blood' or 'How You Get The Girl' to that list of possibilities - although the three you mention would definitely be the best 3 single choices I think - and a bonus track single is definitely a possibility seeing as she did it with 'Ours' - it'd work especially well as I don't think deluxe tracks are on iTunes yet due to being an exclusive somewhere but they do get put on iTunes eventually as I remember the 'Red' bonus tracks popping up in the US iTunes top 10 randomly, ages after initial release!

It's incredible that the album sounds so cohesive yet has so many different sounding tracks, while all still being massive potential hits!

I think that too pretty much! Even the mellower subtle moments like This Love or Clean would be good as like a fifth or sixth single to sell the album.

I reallt want Style, Wildest Dreams and Welcome To New York to be singles though, and then obviously they'll need to release Out Of The Woods!

Posted by: Ultraviolence1989 23rd December 2014, 03:07 PM

I'm happy for any of them to be a single apart from I wish you would have put this song on the deluxe or left it off the album

I'd prefer the singles to be out of the woods/ all you had to do was stay/ bad blood/ wildest dreams and I know places

Posted by: Timmy TheSnowman 23rd December 2014, 03:11 PM

Bad Blood may never become a single
That is the only song I deleted off my iTunes, I have such hate for it ugh

Posted by: مدهش* 23rd December 2014, 03:34 PM

Bad Blood is the low point for me too, that and How You Get The Girl were removed from my playlist of it.

Oh and thank ye Jake for the offer... I downloaded it last night before I noticed your response... but, as you say, it's a kinda safe ballad thing really, okay but not a stand out.

Posted by: SevenSleighz 23rd December 2014, 04:07 PM

this album is rather good. Style getting a single push would be fabulous, easily the highlight here. the others being I Wish You Would, Out of the Woods + the 2 singles

(as long as they don't give bloody Welcome to New York a single release then all shall be fine~)

'bad blood' is essentially a poor-man's avri lavigne track which is saying something

do you not think 'i wish you would' is her impersonating the naked and famous? and obviously 'wildest dreams' is lana it's not so much 80s references as it is contemporary ones!

Posted by: mr_aly 23rd December 2014, 07:23 PM

I listened to the bonus tracks, in full agreement that 'Wonderland' and 'New Romantics' should've had a place on the main album. What the hell?! 'You Are In Love' is boring, I have that same opinion of 'This Love' so I guess I'm not feeling the love.

Those two should replace the aforementioned 'This Love' and 'All You Had To Do Was Stay' on the main tracklist.

'I Know Places' is also properly hitting me now. wub.gif

Posted by: Ultraviolence1989 23rd December 2014, 10:41 PM

I have finally listened to the bonus tracks in full. I just never ever listen to the bonus tracks unless I can buy the deluxe physical version of the album

First thoughts:
Wonderland- First listen: Overrated, Second Listen: Really good
New Romantics- why is this only on the deluxe, so so stunning wub.gif
You Are In Love- Very nice

W and NR should be on main album over I wish you would and clean while you are in love is where it deserves to be or it can replace this love, I'm not sure smile.gif

EDIT: I need New Romantics in my life right now. Purchased on iTunes wub.gif

Past me would be ASHAMED but I have given in and listened through this ('Blank Space' is just incredible and I really liked 'Shake It Off' too). Time for another hyperbolic rating:

6.0 Welcome To New York
11.0 Blank Space
10.0 Style
8.5 Out Of The Woods (9.0 for the middle 8 and chorus alone, the rest slightly drags it down but still v good)
9.0 All You Had To Do Was Stay
9.5 Shake It Off
8.0 I Wish You Would
10.0 Bad Blood
7.5 Wildest Dreams
8.0 How You Get The Girl
9.5 This Love
7.0 I Know Places
6.5 Clean

9.5 Wonderland
6.5 You Are In Love
9.5 New Romantics

'Welcome To New York' is such a MEH opening, not a bad song per se but it just sounds like a bad attempt at being Katy Perry. After getting through that however this album sounds practically like a greatest hits, she's really got this whole POP MUSIC thing down to a T hasn't she ohmy.gif Nearly every song here sounds like it could be a big hit if released as a single. Dare I compare it to 'Thriller', as I genuinely get that sort of feeling from it. Last 2 tracks of the standard edition are a bit of a comedown from the rest though, they'd be decent enough as bonus tracks I guess so swap them out for 'Wonderland' and 'New Romantics' and just cut 'Welcome To New York' entirely and this would be pretty much a perfect album. V impressed.

If 'Style' is the next single I could see myself growing to love it just as much as 'Blank Space'. 'Bad Blood' is my other massive highlight if you couldn't figure that out from the ratings ~ And 'This Love' is like 10x better than the rest of the slower tracks heart.gif Glad there weren't too many of those as she doesn't seem quite as good at them as she is at big pop songs.

Posted by: Liаm 29th December 2014, 12:47 AM

My updated rating after a couple of months of sinking in, because I'm bored:

10 Welcome To New York (still adore this, I don't get the hate sad.gif it is quite cheesy I guess but the synths are so joyous!)
10 Blank Space
11 Style (really set on this on the next single now <3)
09 Out Of The Woods (it feels weird to say a song that's 9/10 is overrated but this is, it's just that this is far from her best even though it is a 9 because I love so much of her material)
08.5 All You Had To Do Was Stay
10 Shake It Off
08.5 I Wish You Would
09 Bad Blood (for all the Avril Lavigne comparisons, I'd say Avril done well laugh.gif Which Avril herself can't even do most of the time)
10 Wildest Dreams
09 How You Get The Girl
09 This Love (huge grower from my first impressions!)
09 I Know Places
08 Clean

10 Wonderland
06 You R In Love
10 New Romantics

That is genuinely my rating laugh.gif given that this is two months after release, that's a testament to how amazing it is, it's not wearing off at all <3 Because of the high quality I find it hard to pin down a favourite from Blank Space, Style, Shake It Off and Welcome Yo New York, but right now I'd say Style wub.gif

Posted by: Jayeux Noël 29th December 2014, 07:20 AM

My loony looking rating:

10.0 Welcome To New York (Oh Bré you nincompoop x)
11.0 Blank Space
10.0 Style
10.0 Out Of The Woods
9.5 All You Had To Do Was Stay
10.0 Shake It Off
9.0 I Wish You Would
9.0 Bad Blood
10.0 Wildest Dreams
7.5 How You Get The Girl
8.0 This Love
8.5 I Know Places
8.0 Clean
10.0 Wonderland
7.0 You Are In Love
10.0 New Romantics

... goodness me! The album is pretty incredible, easily one of the best pop albums of the 2010s. Dare I say *the* best? This time last year I wouldn't have thought I'd ever bother to check out a Taylor Swift album, let alone that I'd really love one. I need to check out 'Red' asap.

The heavily slated 'Welcome To New York' is such an easy highlight for me. I can't help but feel a little "oh sad.gif" when I see mass dislike for something I really love, but I will have to put this down to different strokes for different folks. Like Liam said, those synths are irresistible to me and as a whole the track has a euphoric, hopeful feeling to it. Such a great opening to the album. wub.gif

'Style' is the perfect choice for next single - it's my second favourite track on the album. heart.gif

I had considered 'How You Get The Girl' through to 'Clean' as a noticeable lull on the album, but those tracks have all grown on me considerably. I found 'HYGTG' to be a bit saccharine at first, but I can't deny how catchy it is. It was verging on an '8.0'.

'You Are In Love' is the only relatively weak moment, but still worthy of a 7 and more than passable as a deluxe track. Speaking of which, 'Wonderland' and 'New Romantics' seriously deserved a place on the standard album! Although they definitely make purchasing the deluxe super worth it.

Posted by: Ellis 29th December 2014, 09:32 PM

When I read that most of the tracks were produced by Max Martin and Shellback I knew this was going to be a monster of an album; it's definitely one of my favourite ever.

7.0 Welcome To New York
10.0 Blank Space
11.0 Style
9.0 Out Of The Woods
8.0 All You Had To Do Was Stay
9.75 Shake It Off
7.75 I Wish You Would
10.0 Bad Blood (definitely a '*.*' last chorus moment)
8.0 Wildest Dreams
8.0 How You Get The Girl
8.0 This Love (a solid 12.5 for the middle 8 though)
8.5 I Know Places
5.5 Clean

9.5 Wonderland
8.5 You Are In Love
10.0 New Romantics

I am SO rooting for Style as the next single (even though it's pretty much a cert). I would very much like to see Bad Blood released, I think that will be the moment that she solidifies her pop move. It seems very unlikely from Taylor, but if she released a rapper remix of it (JAY Z or Iggy?) specifically for US Rhythmic radio, I could see Bad Blood becoming one of, if not her biggest radio hit to date in America. New Romantics seems like a fitting late-summer-early-autumn follow up to Bad Blood with Wildest Dreams (and that X Factor final performance) seeing her and her album sales through Q4 2015.

I will never understand why those three bonus tracks were ever put as bonus tracks; I ideally would replace HYGTG, This Love and Clean for all of them. Welcome to New York has grown on me but it's still a very dull opening. That being said, it seems fitting for her fairly-publicised move to New York between Red and 1989; so imo it's a fitting concept backed up by a mediocre song. That and "Clean" aside, this is most definitely her Teenage Dream. I mean that in both senses in that it's a STELLAR pop album and will almost certainly produce a number of hit singles, keeping her ubiquitous in 2015.

That "ah-ah-ah" vocal hook in "New Romantics" is seriously breathtaking. I hope it becomes a late-era single. And yeah, this really is shaping up to be the biggest era in a couple years.

My new rating:

09.5 Welcome To New York - also amongst the lovers of this track, gets way too much hate!
10.0 Blank Space - I always liked it but it's properly HIT me now.
09.0 Style - also only just hit me, didn't really see the fuss before but I can just see it growing and growing

11.0 Wonderland - absolutely incredible and one of the best deluxe tracks I've ever heard.

Never did a rate for this:

05 Welcome to New York
08 Blank Space
11 Style — The 11 might just be an effect of Current Single Syndrome but I loved this from the moment I heard the snippet in the Target commercial. It's very much of a piece with "Love Me Harder" and "Jealous" (both of which I love) as far as recent hits go.
10 Out of the Woods
08 All You Had to Do Was Stay
05 Shake It Off
06 I Wish You Would
08 Bad Blood
09 Wildest Dreams
07 How You Get the Girl
06 This Love
07 I Know Places
09 Clean — Never fully appreciated this until now, it's gorgeous. Imogen's background vocals *.*

I'll do the bonus tracks later on.

Remix of 'Bad Blood' with Kanye West confirmed apparently! Really hope that means it's the next single and it's not just a random remix, 'Bad Blood' would be a perfect choice. wub.gif

Bad Blood is trash compared to the rest of the album (especially Wildest Dreams and This Love heart.gif )

She better not Katy Perry us (kink.gif) with 3 amazing single and then releasing the worst on the album

Bad blood would be a great single heart.gif (though would prefer widest dreams, I know places, OOTW or New Romantics but BB is better than style)

This album is still so good! It's approaching 600,000 sales in the UK and is already Taylor's highest-selling album here!

She performed at the iHeartRadio Music Awards last night, winning three of the four awards that she was nominated for, and played guitar during Madonna's performance of "Ghosttown":

this has appeared under the 'new arrivals' section on her label's website. very good indicator it looks likely to be the next single.

thoughts? ohmy.gif

Posted by: JosephStyles 12th June 2015, 10:15 AM

Taylor's denied that this is a single and I expect she'd go for something off the standard album really (although she did release Ours from Speak Now which was a deluxe track so you never know!). It'd be a great single anyway and a nice change in pace and vibe from the last couple of singles.

Posted by: Jack 12th June 2015, 05:39 PM

Strange choice of single but I love the single so I would be happy with it! Out Of The Woods seems like an obvious snub though.

Posted by: Cody Slayberry 12th June 2015, 05:41 PM

She also released the bonus tracks from her album as separate singles in the US.

Personally, I'd be cheering for this, but nothing's official until Taylor or someone from her team announces what it is.

Posted by: Ryan. 12th June 2015, 05:44 PM

This 99% won't be a single I don't think, as much as I'd love it. As someone on ATRL pointed out, apparently it's been there for a while - since they released the bonus tracks as singles in the US a few months ago. 'New Romantics' was the last of these and was tagged as 'New Romantics - Single' so that's where it will have come from!

I'll merge it back with the album topic for now, if it does turn out to be a single I'll split it back but I doubt it will be.

Posted by: *Tim 12th June 2015, 10:39 PM

She better release Wish You Would as the summer single, followed by Wildes Dreams or This Love in october or something

Posted by: jark 12th June 2015, 10:44 PM

Why would you say such a thing?

ARE WE OUT OF THE WOODS YET?!

Posted by: Ryan. 12th June 2015, 10:45 PM

I'm not sure what they'll choose as the next single, I think the likes of 'All You Had To Do Was Stay' and 'How You Get The Girl' would be solid successes yet won't get into many worldwide top 10s - along the lines of 'Style' perhaps. I think they'll probably go with 'Wildest Dreams', with a fabulous music video that could do very well! 'Out Of The Woods' is probably the obvious smash, but for some reason I feel it will be ignored.

Posted by: Liаm 12th June 2015, 11:27 PM

New Romantics would be an AMAZING single wub.gif OOTW is probaby objectively the best choice but personally I'd love New Romantics, All You Had To Do Was Stay, I Wish You Would or Wildest Dreams <3

I have a feeling it'll be re-release time for Christmas now, with the Bad Blood remix and possibly a few new singles. I'd prefer 'Out Of the Woods' though, I don't think it'd do much more than Style did, but it's a lovely song.

I find Ryan Adams' covers album so limp. I listened to Shake it Off, Welcome to New York and Bad Blood...He sucked the life from the the songs sound so uneventful, and it sounds like it was recorded in his basement. I've liked his music in the past but this... unsure.gif

Absolutely ecstatic at OOTW being announced as the next single. Really hope we get another brillkant video for it and not just some lazy tour footage video. I agree that it's possibly a bit too late into the era for it to have any real effect, but at this point I'd be happy with top 40.

Taylor can sing?

Posted by: Ryan. 20th December 2015, 07:13 PM

Just watched the 1989 World Tour on Apple Music, what an absolutely fantastic show it was! The way it was filmed was absolutely fantastic, visually stunning. With lots of mini-interviews and clips of special guests from other tours included too, the film runs at over 2 hours but it went so so quickly!

Taylor was incredible as expected, there were lots of highlights and I can't list them all but a few of the surprises were the performances of I Know Places (this had such a great production and concept, I can now envisage this as a hit single!), You Are In Love (the involvement of the crowd was mesmerising) and Wildest Dreams/Enchanted (I'd forgot these two were mashed up, and it was fantastic). And Out of the Woods at the end was a major goosebumps moment, and Shake It Off in the encore was insanely good.

All the performances combined with what was like a mini documentary makes this so so worth the £9.99 Apple Music membership for a month, so I'd really recommend you do so and give this a watch. I hope it gets released on DVD too next year as I'd love to have it to keep! heart.gif

Posted by: Jaspine Thompson 19th February 2016, 04:29 PM

Apparently New Romantics is the 7th single to be released from 1989, according to https://twitter.com/javajoel/status/700486002683441153. Not sure how accurate this is so I've hesitated on making a thread for it. Would be good if it's true though, as it's my favourite AT along with All You Had to Do Was Stay cheer.gif

Posted by: Ryan. 22nd June 2016, 01:39 AM

With it being summer 2016, I've been thinking about what to expect from Taylor in terms of new music. Of course long-time fans know that in the past she has stuck to a consistent release strategy with a lead single in July/August and an album following in October/November on every even numbered year since 2006. That would of course mean that sticking to that strategy would mean a new single within the next 2 months.

As 1989 was such a massive era and the longest era she has had, I can't see her sticking to that strategy this time round unfortunately. I think the next studio album will probably appear in late 2017 with a lead single in the summer, so the same strategy but just a year late.

But, after reading other forums too, I think it would be absolutely perfect for Taylor to release a Greatest Hits album for this year. She could still give us a new single in August/September and a Greatest Hits album seems like the perfect way to celebrate 10 years since her first album release seeing as she won't have time for a full album. Rumour has it that her original contract with Big Machine was either five or six studio albums AND a greatest hits album, so what better time to tick that greatest hits album off this year?

I really hope this happens, I can't go an even numbered year without a single new Taylor song and with her at the peak of her popularity (probably ever, 1989 was a once-in-a-career album era like Teenage Dream was for Katy) it would be the perfect time to introduce her country songs to an audience that won't be as familiar with them bar the Love Storys and the You Belong With Mes of course. Go on Taylor you know you want to!

I was half expecting another single announcement with the topic bump! laugh.gif

Posted by: Regina 23rd June 2016, 01:04 PM

I'm sure once she's humped and dumped Hiddles she'll have enough material for a new album, especially with the Calvin drama.

Second album done.

I went into 1989 expecting it to be a fully fledged pop record and I don’t think I was wrong.

It sure is a departure from Speak Now (and her first two albums which I haven’t heard for about a decade).

Overall I really enjoyed it and I even like Shake It Iff more than I did before.

It’s interesting what you write here because Red certainly feels like a good transition between Speak Now & 1989.

I’d agree on that too! Reds country moments and the ballads on the album are stronger as a whole than what the pop moments are but I think pop was something she was branching out into for Red and the albums what followed her writing for more pop orientated songs got better.

1989 at the time was my favourite of hers but I think she’s topped it since with both folklore and evermore but I do think 1989 is an iconic album and one of the best album campaigns across the 10s decade (if not THE best album campaign tbh for a pop album).

Is 1989 her highest seller on a WW scale too? I know in the UK it’s her best seller but is it the same in the US and other territories like Canada and Oceania?

I think 1989 is her highest selling in Australia. I’m pretty sure it’s certified Diamond.

It’ll be either Fearless TV or Red TV next I can’t decide. Will probably,y wait til the new year to start though.

This is a good question. 1989 is her biggest selling album world wide and is her best selling album in the U.K. Canada & Australia. But it’s not actually the biggest selling album in the US. Or at least it still wasn’t fairly recently. Fearless has actually sold more. I guess 1989 will take over in time though.

Taylor’s version of Red is brilliant - still listening to it a lot!

Iconic is the perfect word to describe the 1989 era & I completely agree with your comment about it having the best album campaign. 1989 era was handled perfectly and catapulted Taylor into the main steam. It was my favourite album for a couple of years (Reputation (excluding Delicate) and Lover (excluding Lover & Cruel Summer) didn’t snatch that crown for me. But… I’m glad she’s moved away from this ‘pop’ sound for Folklore and Evermore. It’s hard to compare them to 1989 with regards to which album I like the most but these two albums have brought her alive to me again and showed me just how much of a superb lyricist she is. And I’m also glad she re-recorded Red this year because it has given me a much better appreciation for the album and how great her song writing was too for this album.

Thanks, I was t sold on some of the singles at the time so I may give it another go first. I’ve always liked Fearless.

It was my least favourite album (well actually the first album is my least favourite but I hadn’t listened to that until I listened to it for the rate last year) so yeah it was my least favourite until TV came out.

Yeah it is but I think it’s a mixture of me being older listening to it now and so appreciating a lot of the songs more than I did back then and I also think the vault tracks and the 10 minute version of All Too Well just make the album so much more brilliant
