so it's been anounced by the BBC, as part of a new shakeup, will require you to have a tv licance to watch iPlayer

what are your thoughts on this, and if it became a requirement, would you still use it?

at first i thought it was a stupid idea.. it's an online service, so you shouldn't be required to have a licance

and then i thought maybe it had something to do with BBC3 (i'm not entirely sure why), and came to the conclusion that maybe it's not so bad.

either way, i don't really use it, and have a licance anyway- so i really don't care.

I don't watch tv in general but when it comes to watching Doctor Who this is bad news for us

Not if you get it online - I dont mind paying a licence fee full stop. After 30 years of digital tv BBC still has the best output of any channel imo!

Yes, you should have a TV licence to watch them. I don't know why they didn't make it like this from the start!

You can only use iPlayer to watch BBC programmes, so it seems only fair that you should have to pay towards the cost of making those programmes.

Agreed I think this is a really good move, as more and more people watch TV on demand. To put it simply, the BBC needs this move to survive. Only right that the loophole has been closed.

Should have been done a long time ago, I suspect eventually the licence fee will be replaced by an opt-in monthly subscription to BBC iPlayer which will have access to all of the programming that the BBC put together - which would make a lot more sense given that is how more and more broadcasting is being consumed these days with the exception of live events (football, Eurovision etc.)

Tbh I thought it was always a requirement to pay for a licence, even if you only use iplayer. It's a sensible move considering the amount of people who use catch-up and online services these days.
