'Wellerman' still C-listed is laughable, at least B-list it! I wonder what they're gonna do when it goes to number one? They don't usually take off current number ones so would they just keep it on the C-list or move it up? In the last 9 years, two other songs have been C-listed for 7 weeks: 'Fake Happy' by Paramore in 2017/18 and Bieber's 'Love Yourself' in 2015/16 (the latter of which went on to eventually be A-listed).

Kinda surprised at Architects being A-listed, seen as they haven't progressed beyond the C-list before.

A pretty boring week for new additions though.

'Wellerman' to break the record for longest run on the C-List without being moved up laugh.gif

Shame that Paul Woolford hasn't been moved up. Great to see Ben Howard and Fred Again.... playlisted.

Posted by: Bjork 12th March 2021, 09:56 AM

yay at Ben Howard!!!

Posted by: Dan17F1 12th March 2021, 09:57 AM

A shame that JC Stewart hasn’t progressed above the C List - however I can’t complain about the rest of the removals, they all seem like they’ve had their time now.

I’m surprised about Architects too but I’m guessing it’s partly because of their number 1 album last week. Also happy to see Welshy and Joel Corry moved up.

Quite surprised that Jorja Smith has debuted higher than Drake, especially with an uncommercial sounding single. Pleased to see Navos, Maisie Peters, Ben Howard (At last!) and an unexpected addition for Fred Again ...

I can’t see them moving Wellerman up sadly, I think they’ll just keep it on the C List until it goes to ACR which I’m guessing will be in a few weeks.

OMG Madonna back on the playlist in 2021! We truly are blessed.

Would be nice to see Maisie achieve a breakthrough with this.

When was Katy B last playlisted?

Posted by: Mangø 12th March 2021, 10:08 AM

2016!

She had a song with Lee Walker, maybe it was that.

looks like the Ella & Tom duet is gonna be R2-only :/

I can’t understand that decision at all. The only thing I’m wondering is that they don’t want 2 Tom Grennan tracks on the playlist at the same time but that doesn’t seem to matter for any other major artists.

'Who I Am' was in early 2016, and then the Lee Walker one ('Freak Like Me') was in summer 2016.

Streets out the week label starts to push it laugh.gif

Posted by: roz061 12th March 2021, 11:24 AM

Very happy that Jorja has been added straight to the B list - it's a great song. Also nice to see Fed Again, Maisie Peters and Serpentwithfeet added; hopefully all will progress upwards in the coming weeks.

Also: Shygirl being the Introducing tune of the week is fantastic to see! I've loved her for years so it's great to see her getting more recognition (the song has already had a few spins on Annie's and Jack's shows, and the Boys Noize remix has been played on the dance shows ever since it came out). Can't wait to see her live in November biggrin.gif

Posted by: jimwatts 12th March 2021, 12:17 PM

I seem to remember both Atomic Kitten - Whole Again and Wheatus - Teenage Dirtbag had long runs on the C-list in 2001 without ever being moved up, not sure if either got beyond 7 weeks though.

Posted by: lewistgreen 12th March 2021, 01:18 PM

Some fantastic dance adds this week!

Posted by: steve201 12th March 2021, 01:55 PM

Great to see the new Jorja Smith being added to the B List and Drake only in the C List. Also great to see new Katy B and Ben Howard added. Great to see Arcitects getting A List rotation!!

That new Blessed Madonna track is good!

So ‘Teenage Dirtbag’ was only C Listed on radio 1 at the time Jim??

Yep... then their follow-up (A Little Respect) was B-listed and the one after that (Leroy) was A-listed, with their chart returns going the other way, naturally laugh.gif

All from memory sadly, I followed them most weeks from mid-2000 to sometime in 2003.

Great to see Ben Howard still getting Radio 1 backing (he seems like the type that could suddenly be considered a Radio 2 artist at a moment's notice so happy that he is still R1 relevant for at least one more era), some pretty good adds from Moses Boyd and serpentwithfeet as well (the latter not an artist I expected to see pop up here ohmy.gif)

Drake being added only on the C-List even with it being delayed a week seems a little uncharacteristic - I guess it's possibly in reaction to the song not being the instant huge #1 that it may have been expected to be(?) or perhaps to do with it technically just for now being the focus track of his EP rather than being promoted as a single from his album (though I'd be shocked if it wasn't included on the album like what happened with 'God's Plan'). Rather surprised at Silk Sonic still not being playlisted as well? R1 have shown plenty of support to Anderson .Paak before so I'd have expected them to be all over his most commercial release to date!

Happy to see Cardi B making the A-List and Welshy surprisingly escaping C-List stalling! And great to see Shygirl on the Introducing spot as well, not my favourite song from her but I'll take any appearance.

So did I but couldnt remember that about Wheatus, pretty ridiculous like considering their two biggest hits were only C-B Listed. And 'Teenage Dirtbag' is consider a classic of that new wave metal sort genre from the era.

I just checked my Radio 1 Playlists archive, and you're right. "Teenage Dirtbag" was only C-listed, for an incredible 6 weeks. Then "A Little Respect" got B-listed and "Leroy" A-listed. Nice memory you have!

Guess it stuck in my mind as if those later singles were getting the plays they thought Teenage Dirtbag deserved.

Do you have how long Whole Again spent on the C-list?

"Whole Again" spent 4 weeks on the C-list. They preferred hammering Sugababes' "Run For Cover" which got A-listed instead. Can't complain since I love that song.

Suppose Sugababes were always the more urban and cool pop band compared to Atomic Kitten!

They were radio darlings for sure.

Posted by: steve201 14th March 2021, 01:39 AM

They made a lot better songs though looking back, ‘Whole Again’ being by far their best song. Strange it was only c-listed considering it was a 4 week chart topper!

Some Tunes of the Week:

Greg James: Jorja Smith - Addicted
Clara Amfo: Remi Wolf & Dominic Fike - Photo ID
Nick Grimshaw: Origin8a & Propa - Harmony (feat. Benny Page)

I don't know Scott's as I don't listen to his show, and I can't tell from the tracklist on the BBC Sounds app.

I think the success of that song literally took everybody by surprise!

and suddenly they went to #1 with Whole Again

I don’t see why they couldn’t have them both on the playlist - yesterday Scott played both Little Bit Of Love and Let’s Go Home Together in the same show which means that they’re not opposed to it!

In case anyone was wondering Arielle’s Tune of the Week is the Fred again, Blessed Madonna track - We’ve lost dancing I think it’s called.

Posted by: steve201 16th March 2021, 04:58 PM

I agree Dan but i felt because they ignored it at first they must have an issue playing both. They could always play it as an Ella single though lol

Posted by: Mangø 16th March 2021, 05:02 PM

'Let's Go Home Together' is showing signs of being a big hit, I can't see R1 ignoring it.

Posted by: steve201 16th March 2021, 05:40 PM

Let’s hope not

Posted by: JosephStyles 16th March 2021, 05:41 PM

Let's Go Home Together is Ella's single primarily so there's no reason both can't be played, I'm sure it's only a matter of time until it's on the playlist (and I'd be surprised to see them dropping Little Bit of Love so soon).

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 16th March 2021, 06:42 PM

I feel like the reason might actually them being reluctant to playlist Ella more than anything, they didn't support her last single either (sadly sad.gif )
