Chart Commentary
 After rebounding into the top 5 last week, Avicii and Rita Ora continue one of the weirdest chart runs of the year as Lonely Together jumps up to secure the #1 spot, just three weeks after it dropped out of the top 20. Lonely Together's been climbing the official UK chart, and as someone who follows that so closely, it naturally has an impact on my own chart when a song I love is doing so well. Lonely Together took advantage of a quiet week for big new releases and jumped to #1 at the last second. It's Avicii's very first #1, his closest attempt in the past being #4 hit I Could Be the One in 2013. Rita gets her fifth #1, but it's her first in two and a half years, since her feature on Charli XCX's Doiing It climbed to a #1 in a similarly strange chart run. The song also features Anthony Green, who makes his chart debut this week. Avicii at #1!!! So pleased that the song has managed to get into the official top five this week, it's just the comeback he needed in 2017 and proving all the doubters wrong too. It spends a third week at #1 in my personal chart, which would be eight if not for 'Without You' and 'Friend of Mine' getting a head start! |
