Update for week ending 6 August:

Well Taylor would have had around 12 in the Top 50 with a level playing field, but only 1 in the Top 10, so the ACR rules helped her while the 3 artist cap stopped her dominating.

I’m still not convinced the artist cap is really necessary. The odd mid table hit peaking this week (possibly Little Mix) would have peaked lower without it but it’s mainly old songs on their way down that benefit from it.

1 1 Head & heart (1)
2 2 Savage love (1)
3 3 Rockstar (1)
4 - Lighter (4)
5 6 Breaking me (4)
6 12 Only you freestyle (6)
7 - Cardigan (7)
8 4 Rain on me (1)
9 5 Blinding lights (1)
10 7 Watermelon sugar (7)
11 - Exile (11)
12 8 West ten (8)
13 - The one (13)
14 10 Secrets (8)
15 9 Rover (4)
16 11 Greece (11)
17 - The last great American dynasty (17)
18 13 Dinner guest (6)
19 15 Dance monkey (1)
20 - My tears ricochet (20)
21 19 Go crazy (19)
22 16 Roses (1)
23 17 The woo (10)
24 - August (24)
25 20 Don’t need love (10)
26 28 Dancing in the moonlight (26)
27 - Holiday (27)
28 - Mirrorball (28)
29 22 I dunno (9)
30 23 Death bed (6)

48 32 Toosie slide (2)
49 14 Popstar (14)

That would have seen Blinding Lights end a run of 27 consecutive weeks in the Top 5 - a week short of the all-time record (Frankie Laine - I Believe). Nothing has come close to that officially, and even in this ACR-free chart I think Someone You Loved would be next nearest with 22 in a row.

I'm not keen on the 3-track rule either, but I suppose the OCC had to do something after the Divide and More Life releases in 2017 meant Ed Sheeran and Drake tracks took up 23 places in the Top 40 one week.

Interesting - I estimated 29 weeks Top 5 in total for Dance Monkey but knocked out at Christmas of course.

I think this is a brilliant topic. I think ACR has ruined the charts in my opinion.

Thanks! I wish I could see the real chart without ACR but my estimated one will have to do.

Update for week ending 13 August:

Lots of climbers due to the Taylor exodus.
Billie Eilish made the official Top 10 but I reckon there would have been no fewer than 5 ACR songs ahead.
Khaled and Brown wouldn’t be Top 10 yet either.
Harry would have made a new peak but still not Top 5.
I think Breaking Me would be matching its peak from June, which suggests its consignment to ACR was somewhat premature.

1 1 Head & heart (1)
2 2 Savage love (1)
3 3 Rockstar (1)
4 5 Breaking me (4)

Thanks for continuing to do these, I actually prefer seeing this chart, even if it is slow moving, over the fake ACR one. Interesting how Taylor dominated in the top 10 more due to ACR, but where I do sort of agree with the OCC is having that track limit in the top 40 as otherwise it does look stupid. That said I don't think official singles should be counted in the three track rule.

Update for week ending 27 August:

WAP would have made Number 2 even without Savage Love’s ACR demise, though the latter would have been ahead for much of the week. Still no Top 3 spot for Lighter though.

Mood swings now a bona fide Top 10, but poor Greece still wouldn’t have made it despite its solid official run at 8/9.

Rockstar exits the Top 3 after 14 weeks and Blinding Lights the Top 10 after 32 weeks.

Interestingly Dua would have had 4 songs doing similar numbers this week - I reckon 2 would
have been just inside the Top 50 and 2 just outside.

1 1 Head & heart (1)
2 5 WAP (2)
3 2 Savage love (1)
4 4 Lighter (4)
5 - Laugh now cry later (5)
6 3 Rockstar (1)
7 7 Watermelon sugar (6)
8 12 Mood swings (8)
9 8 West ten (7)
10 6 Breaking me (4)
11 9 Blinding lights (1)
12 14 Greece (11)
13 11 Secrets (8)
14 15 Go crazy (14)
15 10 Rain on me (1)
16 13 Rover (4)
17 16 Dancing in the moonlight (16)
18 18 Dance monkey (1)
19 21 The woo (10)
20 39 Looking for me (20)
21 - Midnight sky (21)
22 20 Heaven on my mind (20)
23 27 Holiday (23)
24 19 Dinner guest (6)
25 46 Take you dancing (25)

Update for week ending 3 September:

I reckon Dance Monkey would have just clung on for a 50th straight week in the Top 20, which would have been quite some record (I don’t think Someone You Loved quite managed that due to Christmas).

Nathan Dawe is in the “true” Top 3 for the first time.

Every single one of Watermelon Sugar’s 11 official Top 10 weeks have also been in the “true” Top 10 (though it has never made this Top 5). By contrast all of Greece’s 6 official weeks have been gains due to ACR.

10 10 Watermelon sugar (6)
11 14 Blinding lights (1)
12 13 Greece (11)
13 11 Breaking me (4)

Update for week ending 17 September:

I must admit that this week’s chart does make quite a good case for ACR. 2 great songs entering the official Top 10, whereas without ACR I reckon the only thing entering the Top 10 would be... Blinding Lights. And still no “true” Top 10 placing for Greece despite 7 official weeks.

1 2 WAP (1)
2 1 Head & heart (1)
3 4 Mood (4)
4 5 Ain’t it different (4)
5 3 Lighter (3)
6 6 Savage love (1)
7 7 Mood swings (7)
8 8 Laugh now cry later (5)
9 11 Blinding lights (1)
10 9 Rockstar (1)
11 17 Looking for me (11)
12 12 Greece (11)
13 10 Watermelon sugar (6)
14 21 Midnight sky (14)
15 13 Breaking me (4)
16 14 West ten (7)
17 15 Rain on me (1)
18 20 Take you dancing (18)
19 16 Go crazy (14)

So 'Lasting Lover' which enters top 40 comfortably at #27 this week might have missed out without ACR and 'Obey' instead of becoming top 40 hit for BMTH wouldn't even make top 50. Seeing this really makes me appreciate ACR more. Although I get irritated by all those unnatural chart runs like e.g. 'Rain On Me' spending 9 weeks in top 4 and then dropping to 21 out of the blue or 'God's Plan' having 9 consecutive weeks at number 1 and then suddenly dropping to number 10 because they all look just very weird. But seeing this slow moving chart without ACR would've been much more painful laugh.gif

I think I Don’t Care was the worse example of this, which was also down to the 3 track per artist rule.
Think it was 1 (x8) - 2 - OUT - 4 which is just ridiculous

Interesting, 'Looking For Me' being a top 10 hit felt so unlike 2020 (more like 2014/early 2015) and ACR exodus-fueled that I'd have guessed it would be further off than #11.

Also interesting that you have the official chart's #34, which is on SCR ('Only You Freestyle') and #74, which is on ACR ('Flowers') level with each other, so if 'Perfect' (#94) had remained on SCR it might've only been up for the high 40s or so.

When it comes to 3 track rule i also remember Ed's song with 50 Cent and Eminem from No. 6 Collaborations Project which was new entry at #3 on monday's update and was announced as number one on week's trending chart by OCC but ended out of top 100 on friday because it was overtaken by other album track. That was ridiculous to see.
