Will Heard) - Sonnentanz (Sun Don't Shine) 37 44 175 Wilkinson (feat. Becky Hill) - Afterglow 36 50 176 Katy Perry - Roar In sad news for EDM fans Martin Garrix completely bombs out of the qualification zone, having made it all the way to the final last year placing in 75th, "Animals" has lost a ton of support this year and will need to be nominated again if it is to have one more go. Other dance songs to fall flat this year include "Sonnentanz" which spent the last two years in the top 25, and "I Need Your Love" - one of two Calvin Harris tracks that climbed into the AQ zone last year, but now falls back out. Avicii couldn't quite get a third track to join the obvious two in the top half however "You Make Me" does make a fairly sizeable jump to be considered 'not so much of a flop', surpassing two falling HAIM songs (;basil;) and Lorde's "Tennis Court", taking a very hefty drop from nearly making last year's semi-finals. OneRepublic and John Newman also lose their AQ spots this year. Taking big climbs into the top 50 are Chase & Status' "Lost & Not Found", Daft Punk's "Instant Crush" and Katy B's "5am" (nice to see these get some more attention) as well as "22" by Taylor Swift perhaps helped by the re-release of "Red" last year. Chase & Status were in the top 10 of last year's final with "Blind Faith" but are unlikely to ever reach such heights again. Armin van Buuren and Wilkinson also narrowly miss AQ zone again, annoyingly. Wolf Alice have one of three new/returning entries in the top 50 with "Bros" in at 46th. Next Year's AQs... 35 74 179 London Grammar - Wasting My Young Years 34 36 179 Naughty Boy (feat. Sam Smith) - La La La 33 51 182 Lana Del Rey - Young & Beautiful 32 ** 185 Lorde - Ribs 31 53 185 Disclosure - You & Me (feat. Eliza Doolittle) 30 08 186 Britney Spears - Work Bitch 29 33 192 Miley Cyrus - We Can't Stop 28 22 199 1975 - Chocolate 27 29 204 Drake (feat. Majid Jordan) - Hold On, We're Going Home 26 18 205 London Grammar - Strong 25 40 209 Kanye West - Black Skinhead 24 19 211 Avicii vs. Nicky Romero - I Could Be The One 23 25 211 Calvin Harris & Alesso (feat. Hurts) - Under Control 22 48 213 Foxes - Youth 21 06 214 Icona Pop (feat. Charli XCX) - I Love It "I Could Be The One" made it to 66th in last year's final narrowly placing as Avicii's top track however sadly this year it is already the end of the line for the song as it doesn't quite luck out again into the semis. However "Wake Me Up" will still be in contention for a final placing. London Grammar will also be removed from the final this year with "Strong", having placed 88th last year it now departs from the yearly top 20. "Wasting My Young Years" however takes a large climb into 35th. Taking hefty falls from the top 10 are "I Love It" and "Work Bitch" - the latter in real danger of losing its AQ status for the majority of the voting period. Neither of those two placed in last year's final however. Moving into the AQ zone alongside WMYY we have "Young & Beautiful" and "You & Me" - both Lana Del Rey and Disclosure have further representation in the top 20. Lorde fans seem to have moved on from "Tennis Court" to "Ribs" this year as that enters in at 32nd. "Black Skinhead" and "Youth" also take big rises into the region. Semi-Finalists 20 17 216 Arcade Fire - Reflektor 19 ** 224 Miley Cyrus - Wrecking Ball 18 23 228 Zedd (feat. Foxes) - Clarity 17 15 234 HAIM - Falling 16 32 239 Macklemore & Ryan Lewis (feat. Ray Dalton) - Can't Hold Us 15 12 239 Little Mix - Move 14 30 241 Lady Gaga - Applause 13 20 242 P!nk (feat. Nate Ruess) - Just Give Me A Reason 12 13 247 Lorde - Royals 11 16 260 Avicii (feat. Aloe Blacc) - Wake Me Up 10 11 262 Taylor Swift - I Knew You Were Trouble. 09 37 290 Tom Odell - Another Love 08 07 290 Paramore - Still Into You 07 09 312 Disclosure (feat. AlunaGeorge) - White Noise 06 04 340 Bastille - Pompeii "Reflektor" seems to have a thing for lucking out a semi-final position and then also scraping through to the final - whether it does so again remains to be seen but for now it just about beats Icona Pop to 20th. Meanwhile it appears some finally remembered to nominate "Wrecking Ball" for the first time since it lost its AQ status in 2018, and it makes a belated return to the semi-finals surpassing "We Can't Stop". It's a good year for Foxes alongside a big rise for "Youth" we also get "Clarity" moving into the top 20. Macklemore also returns to the semi-finals with "Can't Hold Us" as does Lady Gaga with "Applause" - perhaps helped by the fact "Thrift Shop" and "Do What U Want" did not receive nominations. Tom Odell saw a TikTok boosted revival for "Another Love" in the chart this year and it seems that's also helped the song gain more favour on Buzzjack as it now shoots up to 9th. The sole other entry in the top 10 is the less exciting movement of Taylor Swift climbing a single place. At least Avicii managed to move up 5 places with "Wake Me Up" to make up for ICBTO losing its ground. Direkt Till Finalen 05 03 356 Lana Del Rey - Summertime Sadness (Original / Cedric Gervais Remix) 04 05 357 Justin Timberlake - Mirrors 03 10 362 CHVRCHES - The Mother We Share 02 02 414 Daft Punk (feat. Pharrell Williams & Nile Rodgers) - Get Lucky 01 01 482 Arctic Monkeys - Do I Wanna Know? For the third year in a row the top 2 are Daft Punk and Arctic Monkeys. It is the 4th year on top for "Do I Wanna Know?" having unseated "Move" in 2019. Its lead this year in fact, is stronger than ever before too, so perhaps a contender to win the entire contest? It finished 8th last year, however "Get Lucky" can't be ruled out either having finished 6th last year overall, and sitting in a very strong 2nd place. The race to get direct-to-final was tight between four songs, however it was "Pompeii" which eventually missed out thanks to a revival for "The Mother We Share", never a stranger to the ROTD final but this time it won't need to go through the semis. Lana Del Rey and Justin Timberlake also hold their places. |

Great commentary and very interesting to see how songs do year on year, wild that Wrecking Ball didn't get nominated last year then came top 20 this year. Didn't realise this contest wouldn't be so female dominated! Thought the pop girls would have done better and the likes of Arctic Monkeys/Justin Timberlake less so.

Do people genuinely still enjoy Get Lucky lol, the rest of the top 5 all make sense, I didn't realise CHVRCHES were that popular on here though!

Animals dropping out of not only the semi-finals but even the AQ list is shocking
Great to see Clarity through this time though! |

Sad Bros couldn't make the AQs, it seemed to have a really strong start but must have faded later on

Loving the detailed commentary!
Mostly happy with the changes this year - love to see Arctic Monkeys holding their yearly lead once again + CHVRCHES rising into the top 5 and 'Another Love' with a huge rise to be a semi-finalist this year is great to see, the TikTok revival has definitely put the song back in the forefront of my mind so I think I must have ranked it higher than I usually do this year for one! Then 'Black Skinhead', 'Ribs' and 'Wasting My Young Years' are all excellent new auto-qualifiers, although a shame that 'Strong' dropped out of the top 20 and 'Tennis Court' lost AQ status </3 hope it'll have a bounce back for its final year (!) next year. |

whew let's go have 'Reflektor' smash its way through the semis again and pretty good AQ swaps.
excellent commentary too, I appreciate that still being a part of this, what with reminding me what was in the final last year and such. |

'So Good To Me' is always so underrated in this it's great to see one of my other nominations flying this year though - 'Black Skinhead'
Shame to see 'Tennis Court' dropping quite a bit revenge after she didn't perform it on my tour date tbh. Wow 'Ribs' though happy to see that appreciation. Arctic Monkeys holding on to their crown again *.* |

too bad Icona Pop and Youth missed, can't be switched them with the beyond-average Applause and Move?

So glad that my nomination of Wrecking Ball did so well! The other two... not so much.

At least Get Lucky is still riding high and Instant Crush had a good climb from last year, great for Wasting My Young Years too |

Well changing all of my nominations sort of worked, at least with Bros I managed to have one that didn't entirely flop.
Overall decent changes to new qualifiers, semis and finalists |
