The BBC have regained the television rights for the Mercury Prize. Channel 4's coverage for the past two years has been awful, so let's hope it improves now that it is back with the Beeb,

The last time I watched the Mercurys were, incidentally, when the BBC used to air them, so pleased they've got coverage again.

I'm glad the BBC's got the coverage back from Channel 4, as the latter has treated it more as an afterthought rather than a major event, and the BBC can tie into its entire media network to give it the extensive coverage it deserves. Having said that, Channel 4 did replace Jools Holland with Lauren Laverne as compere of the event, so it wasn't all bad. Just hope that they replace Nick Grimshaw as host as well, although I can't see the BBC doing that.
Once again, I agree with Public Service Broadcasting getting a nod, especially after their debut was unfairly overlooked. Sons of Kemet will be in with a good shout for the token jazz nomination, especially given that Seb Rochford, one of the most nominated acts for the prize under several different acts, is involved. |

I don't think a lot of people care that much about the Mercury. As I recall last year's winner didn't get a lot of press attention.

It does have a good effect on the nominees as I remember FKA Twigs' LP1 got a nice boost by it and even the winners jumped into the top 10 on iTunes for a few days last year. I'd be very surprised if Jamie xx, Everything Everything and Wolf Alice don't feature. While I'm all for an under-the-radar album winning the award, some of these albums have done well in terms of a chart peak but I'm sure a Mercury Prize win would just do wonders (unlike with Young Fathers last year).
Foals album is just sublime though, it'd really cement them as a successful band of the 2010s if they were to win. |

Jamie xx is the one I've played the most and it is a perfect album, but I'd like Young Fathers as the album is far better than the one they won with last year.
