Jess Glynne now has 3 number 1s to her name. What other British female solo artists have achieved the same?

Cheryl Cole (5)
Rita Ora (4)
Geri Halliwell (4)
Jessie J
Alexandra Burke
Leona Lewis
Lily Allen
Pixie Lott

Who else?

Yes Sandie Shaw was, I believe, the only female solo act to acheive three number one singles until Madonna equalled then passed her in 86/87. In terms of UK females it would take until Billie Piper in 2000 to equal this feat.

So in terms of UK females then, the original list above + Billie + Sandie Shaw is the complete list?

I wonder if Emeli Sande could be the next addition to the list.

Yeah you're probably right, though it depends which of them release a new single first (and even then, I think Ellie's would be more likely to go to No. 1 than Emeli's).

Geri had 3 #1's before Billie did!

Oh wow. It's really unfortunate to see Jess Glynne amongst these girls considering the minimal impact that she's had

bit tenuous to call "featuring" a solo hit isn't it? Might as well include Cher, of 2 solo hits, Sonny And, and Cher, Chrissie Hynde, Neneh Cherry and Eric Clapton.

(for Americans obv not UK tho Vera Lynn predating charts is a cert laugh.gif )

I'd say if its "Solo Girl featuring Someone" it should count, if its "Someone featuring Solo Girl" then its a bit iffy

If it's "someone feat. solo female" then it counts still as far as I'm concerned. Take Hot Right Now by DJ Fresh feat. Rita Ora, Rita's still credited on that and it went to #1 so it counts to her record.

IMO Solo should mean just that on their own with no other credits

Otherwise do we say Nico & Vinz are soloists aswell?

Give Jess Glynne time. This is only her second solo single as the lead artist. You look at Rita who got 3 of hers within 1 year and I would hardly say she had a massive impact at the same time in her career. Still not a superstar but certainly not going away anytime soon.

I do agree that this list does look a bit disappointing in terms of showing the best british female solo artists, with the exception of Leona who totally deserves the recognition (bit biased on that one I guess haha).

I hate to bash faves but when a list contains Cheryl, Geri, Pixie, RITA ORA and Jessie J, I see nothing wrong with someone as talented as Jess Glynne featuring.

I lie, I love bashing faves.

It counts in their chart history as a #1 for them, so it should count...
