Whilst we're revisiting 00s dance in the chart forum, it's time we ranked the biggest dance hits of the 2000s.
The top 15 best-selling dance songs of each year in the UK have been selected, simply rank them from +15 (favourite) to +01 (least favourite). The top four of each group will be put into a grand final. You may be expecting to start at 2000 and end at 2009, but for a change let's start at the other end. 2009 was dominated by dance acts beginning with C and D, especially Calvin Harris, David Guetta and Dizzee Rascal who have two entries each. 'I'm Not Alone' gave trance music one last hurrah (even if it's not *really* trance, it's close enough). Also representing the genre are 'Poppiholla' and 'I Remember'. It was electro that dominated though with hits such as 'Evacuate the Dancefloor', 'Bonkers' and 'Sexy Chick', some of which were borderline pop songs, but that is to be expected from mainstream dance. It was also responsible for Chase & Status' introduction to the charts, with drum n' bass hit 'End Credits'. 2009 Calvin Harris - I'm Not Alone Calvin Harris - Ready For The Weekend Cascada - Evacuate The Dancefloor Chase & Status feat. Plan B - End Credits Chicane - Poppiholla Chuckie & LMFAO - Let The Bass Kick In Miami Girl David Guetta feat. Akon - Sexy Chick David Guetta feat. Kelly Rowland - When Love Takes Over deadmau5 & Kaskade - I Remember Dizzee Rascal - Holiday Dizzee Rascal vs. Armand Van Helden - Bonkers Freemasons feat. Sophie Ellis-Bextor - Heartbreak (Make Me A Dancer) Kid Cudi vs. Crookers - Day 'N' Nite Steve Angello & Laidback Luke feat. Robin S - Show Me Love The Ian Carey Project - Get Shaky |

Sorry, I got overly nostalgic and started rambling...
+15 Dizzee Rascal - Holiday (bloody BRILLIANT. First heard this when Dizzee performed it live in Hyde Park that summer and it sounded immense, that final minute or so is still one of my favourite endings to any song ever made! Dizzee may have completely lost his underground credibility during this time but I still love this era of his...except looking at the posts already I might be alone in this, but oh well ) +14 Chase & Status feat. Plan B - End Credits (how to do commercial drum & bass RIGHT instead of the drab pop nonsense we got in the 2010s, a killer of a track that astonished me when it went top 5 at the end of the year. Still sounds fab today) +13 Dizzee Rascal vs. Armand Van Helden - Bonkers (another I first heard performed live by Dizzee when he supported the Prodigy at Wembley Arena in April '09. Blew me away when I first heard it, got a bit overplayed later but it really doesn't deserve the low marks given to it so far, for me this is a defining late noughties anthem!) +12 Chuckie & LMFAO - Let The Bass Kick In Miami Girl (utter club banger that lasted well into early 2010, one of the defining songs of my second year of uni) +11 Chicane - Poppiholla (great Sigur Ros update and fantastic to see Chicane of all DJs back in the charts again) +10 David Guetta feat. Akon - Sexy Chick (the sound of the 2010s arrives a year early! Took a while to 'get' but this eventually became a club fave for years, and still takes me back to the dancefloor) +09 David Guetta feat. Kelly Rowland - When Love Takes Over (while this one's been a bit unfairly forgotten in comparison, perhaps because it sounds much more a noughties track than a 2010s one - haven't heard it in ages but still enjoy it) +08 Freemasons feat. Sophie Ellis-Bextor - Heartbreak (Make Me A Dancer) (what an underrated track! God knows how this missed the top 10, should have been a much bigger smash) +07 Calvin Harris - I'm Not Alone (really loved this back in the day but not sure it's aged that well, plus I can't help thinking how Calvin turned from an underrated legend in the noughties into churning out crap dancepop songs in the 2010s) +06 deadmau5 & Kaskade - I Remember (always found this one a little average but appreciated it, top notch production and a good chilled track) +05 Kid Cudi vs. Crookers - Day 'N' Nite (really didn't like this one when I first heard it, and still not one I revisit much, but it soundtracked so many drunken first year nights out at uni it holds at least some nostalgia for me) +04 Calvin Harris - Ready For The Weekend (this never did it for me, I hear what it's trying to do but it always fell a bit flat, not being as euphoric as it thinks it is) +03 The Ian Carey Project - Get Shaky (nah. Really wasn't big into the whole electro thing) +02 Cascada - Evacuate The Dancefloor (oh christ no, what the hell happened? Everytime We Touch is one of my favourite tracks of the decade, this was total bollocks yet somehow outpeaked it?! And it blocked Man In The Mirror from #1 which I'll never forgive it for) +01 Steve Angello & Laidback Luke feat. Robin S - Show Me Love (Awful! Terrible update of a classic 90s song, can't believe it's so high in people's lists already but I've never been one to fit in anyway ) |

How long is voting open for? I don't remember all of these so I would need to listen to some of them.

15 - Calvin Harris - Ready For The Weekend - sadly funky house was quite rare in the charts by this stage, but this really is up there in terms of quality with a lot of the big funky anthems of the 00s)
14 - Chase & Status feat. Plan B - End Credits - Amazing...the beat makes me want to air drum along. Love minimal drum and bass like this. 13 - Chicane - Poppiholla - liked this at the time, such a change in an era of rather loud, noisy dance pop songs to hear such a chilled instrumental making top 10 on the chart - of course now we have the opposite problem and need more lively stuff imo 12 - The Ian Carey Project - Get Shaky - really liked this, at time I was still in school so the lyrics resonated with me! Good vocal - much less annoying vocal than the late 2006/2007 Bodyrox, Mason and Freaks songs too. 11 - Kid Cudi vs. Crookers - Day 'N' Nite - This is weird one, a bassline garage inspired tune getting a worldwide hit. Liked this one at the time and the video. 10 - Steve Angello & Laidback Luke feat. Robin S - Show Me Love - Good remix of the 90s classic, the harder beat adds a lot to the original. Don't remember it from the time sadly. 9 - deadmau5 & Kaskade - I Remember - Found this a bit boring until recently, when I started to appreciate it more for the progressive anthem it is. 8 - Calvin Harris - I'm Not Alone - Wasn't a fan of this much at the time, but I realise now how it is a great progressive tune. 7 -Dizzee Rascal - Holiday - The rest of the song is OK but that ending is so euphoric 6 - David Guetta feat. Kelly Rowland - When Love Takes Over - Liked Kelly's going up and down the vocal scale when singing the letter 'I' in the chorus at the time, still do. Good summer dance track overall too, the piano intro is nice, reminds me a bit of the piano intro in N-Trance's Forever back in 2002. 5 - Cascada - Evacuate The Dancefloor - fun dance pop song even if it is greatly watered down from the original cascada sound not as good as What Hurts The Most by Cascada - heard it everywhere in the summer along with Agnes' Release Me (I always preferred Agnes' track 4- Dizzee Rascal vs. Armand Van Helden - Bonkers - excellent vocal but Armand's production isn't his best tbh and I much prefer his disco house stuff. 3 - Chuckie & LMFAO - Let The Bass Kick In Miami Girl - this is fun enough, the vocal is good but I prefer Champagne Showers from LMFAO as a dance song. Don't remember 'Let the Bass Kick In Miami Girl' much from the time. 2 -Freemasons feat. Sophie Ellis-Bextor - Heartbreak (Make Me A Dancer) - not a big fan of this compared to Freemasons earlier songs it seems a bit subdued and sounds more Sophie's quirky pop style than the Freemasons' disco influenced style. 1 - David Guetta feat. Akon - Sexy Chick - generic and vastly overplayed at the time, definitely not one of Guetta's best songs. This post has been edited by The Wise Sultan: Feb 21 2017, 05:35 PM |

+15 Calvin Harris - I'm Not Alone [10.0] ("If I see a light flashing, does that mean that I'm coming home". Classic!)
+14 Kid Cudi vs. Crookers - Day 'N' Nite [10.0] +13 David Guetta feat. Kelly Rowland - When Love Takes Over [10.0] +12 Dizzee Rascal vs. Armand Van Helden - Bonkers [10.0] +11 deadmau5 & Kaskade - I Remember [10.0] +10 The Ian Carey Project - Get Shaky [10.0] +9 Chase & Status feat. Plan B - End Credits [10.0] +8 Calvin Harris - Ready For The Weekend [10.0] +7 Dizzee Rascal - Holiday [9.5] +6 Steve Angello & Laidback Luke feat. Robin S - Show Me Love [9.5] +5 Freemasons feat. Sophie Ellis-Bextor - Heartbreak (Make Me A Dancer) [9.5] +4 Chicane - Poppiholla [9.5] (Fun Fact: This is a dance rework of Sigur Ros' Hoppipolla from 2006.) +3 David Guetta feat. Akon - Sexy Chick [8.5] +2 Cascada - Evacuate The Dancefloor [8.5] +1 Chuckie & LMFAO - Let The Bass Kick In Miami Girl [7.0] (I prefer the original) This brings back memories. The late 00's. The days of switching between 18 and 21 to listen to some tunes, and switching between 70 and 72 to watch some toons. This post has been edited by DalekTurret32: Feb 22 2017, 03:02 PM |
