I’ll start
Kill This Love by BLACKPINK deserved better than a peak of #33.
Avicii - Heaven peaking only at 20 and dropping out the chart within weeks.
At least we got SOS being a big hit but Heaven really deserved better too.
Lizzo 'Juice' & 'Truth Hurts'. If Good As Hell can get to #7 - these two should have made the top 5! Juice in particular a #1.
I think both have been quite significant and will be remembered well despite the low peaks.
Also 'Late Night Feelings' by Mark Ronson and Lykke Li deserved much better!!
'Be Someone' by CamelPhat & Jake Bugg never quite sneaking into the top 40 was a shame!
Zara Larsson - All The Time / Don’t Worry Bout Me
God is a Dancer was a big hit on my personals so was surprised to see it only hit top 20 in the UK charts.
here’s my periodic “”Close To Me” deserves better and shouldn’t have been prematurely sent to ACR” post
'Close To Me' got an SCR reset and it did nothing for it tho x
Heaven by Avicii
Orphans by Coldplay both deserved Top 10
Agree on Lizzo being the one that deserved much better with Truth Hurts and Juice, at least she made it big with Good as Hell
From the ones that did well but should have done even better:
Taylor - Lover peaking at #14
Katy Perry - Never really over #12
And then there are a lot of great songs that made the top 100 but should have been at least top 40, especially all the Lana del Rey singles... Hope is a Dangerous only peaking at #99 is sad
Hope is a Dangerous thing…/99
Doin’time/42
F**k it I Love You/59
Normal F**king Rockwell/44
also:
Ellie Goulding - Flux peaking at a dismal #97
Avril Lavigne - Head above water/84
Vampire Weekend - This life #89
and even worst for Dido not even making the top 100 or Bon Iver
Dido -Take you home
Bon Iver - Hey Ma
Ava Max - So Am I
Jax Jones feat. Ella Henderson - This Is Real
Taylor Swift - The Archer
Dermot Kennedy - Power Over Me
Mark Ronson feat. Camila Cabello - Find U Again
Tiesto & Jonas Blue feat. Rita Ora - Ritual
Lizzo - Juice
Normani - Motivation
Sigrid - Don't Feel Like Crying
Meduza feat. Becky Hill & GOODBOYS - Lose Control
Tiesto, Jonas Blue and Rita Ora - Ritual
Becky Hill & Weiss - I Could Get Used To This
Gorgan City & MK - There For You
Foals - The Runner
5 Seconds of Summer - Easier (#27)
Mark Ronson ft YEBBA - Don't Leave Me Lonely (#58)
Charli XCX and Christine & The Queens - Gone (#58)
Zara Larsson - All The Time (#58)
Keiino - Spirit in the Sky (#61)
ok lol did not realise most of these peaked at #58
Mark Ronson - Find U Again
Louise - Stretch (ok her age counts against her but her comeback is much better quality than I ever expected)
Cheryl - Let You
Katy Perry - Never Really Over
Vampire Weekend - This Life
Clean Bandit & Marina - Baby
Taylor Swift - Lover
Still at a loss (and think I will be for years!) as to how Katy never managed top 10 with that absolute banger. One of her best and far superior to most pop songs that have managed it this year. I know Vampire Weekend have never had a top 10 so I wouldn't have expected it to, however, this deserved top 40 at least. Its basically Brown Eyed Girl part 2.
Clean Bandit is another I don't understand how this failed but somehow I Miss You managed to do it. Aside from the fact Cruel Summer was a song that could not have screamed smash hit any louder than it does, but never was. Lover however I think was a great third single, its a nicer version of Perfect that doesn't make you want to vomit. Thought this would have been a slow burner and eventually have gotten there but I think the timing was off. Had the album dropped in November I think it would have fitted more with the christmas theme and done considerably better.
If Katy released that 10 years ago she would have been no1 handy enough I think.
God is a Dancer, Lose Control And Turn Me On all seemed to shoot up the chart in the space of one or two weeks and then completely stall in the top 20 which seemed weird. Thought all were going to go top 10 and all deserved to
In most cases underperformances are due to
Lack of playlist support on Spotify
Ie Katy Perry, God is a Dancer
But thats not the case of Lose control or Riton, both @1 on HH
As with Reputation, Taylors problem was picking the wrong singles, Me is her worst song ever and Calm Down is just ok
If she had picked Cruel Summer as lead, The Man as 2nd and Lover as 3rd around Xmas instead
She would have had a much better year
I feel like the peaks of 'Juice' and 'I Could Get Used To This' aren't anywhere near reflective of how well-known they are or the impact they had.
It's a real shame 'Never Really Over' couldn't quite push for top 10 in the end. But still did great for a Katy Perry single in 2019.
'Juice' seems to have attained the same status as Carly Rae Jepsen's 'Run Away With Me', never more than a blink-and-you'll-miss-it hit (especially in the US) but still considered a legendary song among certain Internet circles. Her having 2 other songs that actually did become big hits doesn't hurt.
Dua Lipa - Swansong
Dido - Hurricanes
one of her best, should be as big as White Flag!
Alec Benjamin - Let Me Down Slowly
Taken off Hot Hits just as it was finally gaining traction
Zara Larsson - All The Time, Charli XCX - Gone and Bebe Rexha - Last Hurrah are three of the best pop songs of the year
Run Away With Me by Carly Rae Jepsen.
I know it's from 2015 but idc x
