BuzzJack Music Forum _ UK Charts _ X Factor winning song release date

Posted by: zenon 19th September 2015, 10:12 PM

This year's winner will be announced on December 13th so if Cowell still wants to release it immediately it would need a second week at or climb to the top in order to achieve another Christmas number 1 so will he hang on and wait until the Friday this time? Waiting five days could have an interesting effect.

I very much doubt he'll wait 5 days, that would be a ridiculous move imo. Remember Little Mix and James Arthur's singles were released the week before Xmas tongue.gif

Because they were never going to topple Military Wives and The Justice Collective respectively.

They plan the schedule way before they'd have known about them... laugh.gif

I don't think they'll wait. I don't think they specifically mention the Christmas #1 on the show any more and it's less of a big deal when they don't make it.

Nah, they'll release it on the Sunday and likely nab the #1 for that Friday, and then the Christmas number-one unless something else is released. Wondering if we'll get something out of the blue like "Uptown Funk" again.

Surely it can't just be a coincidence that the 2 series they release the week earlier a massive Charity single comes along and conveniently knocks them off the top.

Posted by: JosephBieber 20th September 2015, 01:20 PM

It probably was a coincidence. They don't plan schedules around charity singles... laugh.gif

Band Aid 30 didn't even knock out the juggernaut of the X Factor for the Xmas #1 although it was released far too early.

Band Aid 30 did get bigger first week sales than the X Factor winner, so would've been Christmas #1 if released that week. Or maybe not as it would probably have not got the X Factor promo if it was directly competing them for #1.

I'm not sure exactly how much X Factor boosted Band Aid; I think it had enough hype of its own and everyone knew about it. Either way, I think if Band Aid and X Factor had gone head to head, any boost that Band Aid would have lost from not being promoted by X Factor would have been made up by the media bigging up the chart battle (in which I think Band Aid would have benefited much more than X Factor).

i crave a xmas chart without x factor or charity singles~ cry.gif

The winners song will be released on 13th December which means it will reach #1 on 18th December. If it wants Xmas #1, it's gonna have to hang on for another week. Whatever is announced as #2 on 18th December, everyone should buy it to stop X Craptor from dooming the Xmas #1 spot

Posted by: Jonjo 20th September 2015, 05:23 PM

Band Aid 30 wasn't a xmas number 1, because it was God AWFUL and I believe that tbh. If it was actually any good, it'd have been a number 1 for longer than it was. laugh.gif

Will they really announce the Xmas chart on Christmas Day? I know they used to do when chart day fell on Xmas Day but why not wait until Boxing Day? How many people are bothered about the chart when they're with family and eating, drinking and watching telly?

True. A lot of people will be more concerned about Ben Mitchell meeting his "dead" mother on EastEnders instead laugh.gif

They'll release the cd single on the Friday most likely!

Posted by: JosephStyles 21st September 2015, 11:44 PM

I'd imagine that will be on the Wednesday as per usual tongue.gif They'd want it out there ASAP surely. I don't think the global release date will affect XF at all tbh!

It would be great if they abandoned it completely cos it's getting so boring now and very predictable each Christmas. I wouldn't mind if they released good songs instead of a cheap, lousy cover version.
