BuzzJack Music Forum _ 20th Century Retro _ Would there be any interest in a 'classic' albums idea?

Posted by: dandy* 30th September 2016, 07:54 PM

So, after just posting about a film club in movies, I wondered if the same idea could apply to this forum?

In short, someone nominates an album from 2000 or before that we all listen to and post our thoughts about - I thought that now we have Spotify etc that this may work as nobody would have to pay to listen.

Anyone interested?

Interesting thought and a yes from me, time permitting - as in not bjsc voting week laugh.gif

YES definitely! Quite surprised the ideas hasn't been done before - a fab way to discover old gems.

Definitely up for this!

Ooh great - I honestly thought this may sink without trace so great to have interest so quickly!

I was thinking we could take it turns, say once a fortnight or something, and also the thread starter could post a few words about why they've chosen it, what the album means to them (if anything!) and if they have time also give an idea of what are their standout tracks - it would be good to have that personal touch to the threads. It would also be good if we could try and mix the genres up a bit etc to keep things interesting.

^ agree! I'd be more than willing to open up to any genre and give the album a go as part of this with no preconceptions. I'm EXCITED already and love nothing more than discovering older albums/artists gone by *.*

Absolutely love discovering older albums too. I'm fully aware that there are SO many classic albums out there that I haven't heard yet, and having something like this would be a great introduction to so many!

Can we just do Dog Man Star every week? tongue.gif

Posted by: dandy* 30th September 2016, 08:21 PM

Haha!

Well we can certainly do it in your week!

Posted by: Suedehead2 30th September 2016, 08:23 PM

I shall have to look for some less obvious choices as well!

Posted by: Brett-Butler 30th September 2016, 08:44 PM

I would definitely be up for it (andfrom the looks of it, I would be able to go for something that isn't necessarily Suede, as it looks like someone's beaten me to the punch on that!)

It could also be something that we could do live as well on Plug.dj - someone sets up a room on it and sets the tracklist to the tracklist of the particular album, we can live-chat our opinions about the album on that, then write up our full thoughts afterwards, or do so if you weren't able to make it to the plug.dj session.

I love this idea, got loads of albums in my collection over the past 35 years, now that makes me feel old, time permitting though.

Would LOVE this idea, I keep always meaning to listen to classic albums as part of my never ending to-do list and ofc. it never happens but this would be a good incentive to (and I'd love to post in this part of the forum more).

Yes, great idea.

Love this idea, would be up for it! Always love discovering music in creative ways and like Chez, it would give me an opportunity to post in this part of the forum more.

Okay then - anyone got a firm idea that they would like to begin with?

I have one that I would choose but it is 70s singer songwriter and I fear it would alienate everyone from the off! biggrin.gif

i have an idea for a beautiful little folk album that was recorded in the '70s but released in 2006. it's considered kind of a "lost record" and has quite a cult following but if you guys want to start with something more "classic" then that's cool too.

So we never did this then... would anyone still be up for it?

I think it would need to be very low key to work - just a suggestion every fortnight or so maybe and people just have a discussion on it rather than any big commitment type of thing...

such a great idea!

Good idea, time permitting of course.
