I Was Gonna Cancel rightly ranking very low on most of the submissions. This should have never made the album let alone be selected as a single.

I think 'I Was Gonna Cancel' is a reasonable enough album track, but it was never going to translate as a hit single (mind you, was anything at that point?). I can see why they chose it though, they were relying on Pharrell's association with it to try and gain extra leverage as he was arguably the number one man of the moment.

This strategy of gaining a hit by association is never going to work, I always wonder why record company (not only Kylie in this case) goes down this route. It's never a guarantee to have a hit single just because you have a well-known producer. Gwen Stefani tried it and was met with dismal failure. |

It's probably because they panicked, realised nothing was likely to be a hit and thought they had nothing to lose by trying it.
