This is an underrated album I think... it's pretty consistent from beginning to end and encompasses quite a variety of styles of song whilst still somehow managing to sound coherent thanks to Mirwais in particular. Don't Tell Me is one of my all time favourite tracks of hers

Don’t Tell Me is probs my fave Madonna song ever? Jump and ofc Like a Prayer would finish my top 3. Listened to all Madonna albums a few weeks ago and I’d rank this as probably my 3rd fave behind Confessions and Ray Of Light

In my top 5 albums from Madge for sure! Very consistent, quirky but thought provoking, and has some real standouts in Don't Tell Me, Impressive Instant and especially I Deserve It wub.gif

Ps Jonjo before you drop your opinion on Music, I really do need to know what you think of Rescue Me!

(I’m just praying that you may like it as I need another fan of it!!!)

I am trying to keep these threads coming to keep up with Jonjo's listening! rotf.gif if I fall behind, listen to some of her tracks that don't feature on albums while I catch up! Rescue Me and also Beautiful Stanger came just before this era, but I'm sure I remember you saying you hate that!? Or am I mistaken ohmy.gif

A great follow up to ray of light. Very different in style but ahead of its time!

I love this album!

So different from ROL, so ahead of its time, so out there and quirky. I like the cover a lot too. Quite inspirational I’d say it’s kinda like reminiscent of Gagas Joanne.

I really like how the albums sort of in two halves. We have the bonkers, electro pop, experimental half mixed with a more country, blues like guitar based half what I feel helped her capture a more adult contemporary sound.

I’m not keen on the title track tbh but everything else I really like. This is my in my top half of her albums though it’s one I revisit often.

Isn’t this her album where she had her highest ever weekly albums total in the UK even though it was during a week it wasn’t even at #1. Bc sales were so huge back then and she’d just released a huge album prior to this there was real love for Madonna throughout this era wub.gif

MY IMPAKT *.* Aha! - No worries I'll probably go to the soundtracks or something if the album topics aren't up! Hurry up though, coz Confessions is coming up... ;D

I was gonna review this album yesterday, but I decided to listen to 'Ray of Light' again instead (and AF Idol a couple of times) :') but today... I have no excuse. I listened to Rina Sawayama's album and went on a Max Martin binge instead :') Maybe tomorrow for this album lmao!

Yes. In fact, 'Beautiful Stranger' is the Madonna song that I consider to be my least favourite along with.... 'Music' nocheer.gif (But 'Don't Tell Me' is underrated! wub.gif)

SORRY! I did listen the other day, but I got sidetracked and I enjoyed it! I really like it and it definitely straddles the whole 'Vogue' & 'Erotica' sounds. I'm a fan. I think that kinda style really suits her.

I *think* this is the first album of hers where I know (and remember) every single from it. Judging by how different those singles are to one another, I am expecting this to not be as cohesive as other albums by her, but I'm hoping to take something from it because I like (don't love) all the singles (except the title track).

Listening to 'Music' again for the first time in what feels like a while, it just does absolutely nothing for me and I find it really, quite irritating </3 'Don't Tell Me' is an interesting song. Just in it's whole execution, like it should be a country song, but it's completely far from it and isn't actually at all? laugh.gif 'What It Feels Like for a Girl'... I feel like the chorus doesn't pop as much as it possibly could. The production is lovely though. Her version of 'American Pie' is really good. One of the more underrated covers imo.

1. Don't Tell Me
2. Runaway Lover
3. Impressive Instant
4. American Pie
5. Amazing
6. What It Feels Like for a Girl
7. Paradise (Not for Me)
8. I Deserve It
9. Gone
10. Nobody's Perfect
11. Music

Well... that album is "nice". Ngl, I think I forgot how majority of the tracks went after I'd listened to them though. Like, I wouldn't be in a rush to listen to it again, but there's not a "standout" on here, for me. It's probably one of those albums that needs more listens to really dig my teeth into and get used to it some more so I can start establishing favourites and such. Regardless of the singles though, this is surprisingly cohesive, but it's all a bit too samey/doesn't interest or excite me as much as some of her other albums have done. But sometimes, they aren't all going to be instant and that's OK!

Album Rankings:
01. Ray Of Light
02. True Blue
03. Erotica
04. Like A Prayer
05. Music
06. Madonna
07. Like A Virgin
08. Bedtime Stories

Interesting! I honestly expected you to like this one so it’s fascinating that you didn’t care for it that much. Glad that Don’t Tell Me was your fave though wub.gif

I will stick with this one though because I appreciate not every album is going to instant. I feel like some of these will grow quite a bit on me, so I'm gonna stick with it properly when I'm up to date/when Bal doesn't have the threads up for my next album(s) kink.gif

I may be the only fan like this...but all these years later, Runaway Lover is the song I revisit the most off this album. Is that...random? I've loved it since first listen 20 years ago. I find it sooo catchy. The "walking around on a cloud" section? So good. As far as I know, it was never even remotely considered for a single. But. Anyway. I'll be the lone fan to say it. Runaway Lover. My favorite off this album.

I like a lot of this album, though, really. The mix of the guitary sound...with electro pop...it was a really interesting combo. Title track is iconic. Love both Don't Tell Me and Impressive Instant. What It Feels Like For a Girl and Paradise are haunting. I think Gone is gorgeous.

The only song I don't like on the album is Nobody's Perfect. Sorry, friends. Don't get it.

My ranking for this album would be.

1. Don’t Tell Me
2. Impressive Instant
3. Amazing
4. Runaway Lover.
5. Gone
6. I Deserve It
7. What It Feels Like For A Girl
8. Paradise (Not For Me)
9. Nobody’s Perfect
10. Music
11. American Pie

An era for her where the singles besides from one of them aren’t amongst the highlights but it flows well as an album.

I can see why Music was released and how it was a huge hit though, it’s just a bit too safe for someone like Madonna. I’ve always felt like it was amongst her weaker singles for me.

It is on the album it’s on. I’m not talking about the album itself being safe I’m on about the title track.

There’s much better more interesting boundary pushing tracks than that.
