Thought I would start a thread about cricket.

You can discuss all things related to cricket from internationals to domestics.

How do you think England will do against Bangladesh in the one-day international today?

Posted by: Mack 12th October 2016, 09:53 PM

A good win for England to win the one day series over Bangladesh.

Posted by: Mack 13th October 2016, 11:52 AM

South Africa have thrashed Australia 5-0 in their one-day international series. First time that Australia have been whitewashed in a one-day series.

Posted by: Mack 24th October 2016, 07:49 AM

A test win for England over Bangladesh by 22 runs. So close to a 1st Test win for Bangladesh over England.

Posted by: Mack'sXmasSack 8th December 2016, 01:42 PM

Keaton Jennings hits a century on his Test debut for England as England reach 228-5 in the 4th Test against India.

Posted by: JingleBellsMack 20th December 2016, 01:03 PM

England have lost 4-0 in their five test series against India.

Could Cook step down as captain?

Posted by: King Rollo 12th January 2017, 12:32 PM

I am watching the Big Bash every morning at the moment. Extraordinary match today. Melbourne Renegades scored 222-4,a record for the BBL but still lost the match with Hobart Hurricanes making 223-8. Stuart Broad came in to bat in the last over and hit 4,4 and then 1 off the last ball to win the match.

Posted by: Mack 12th January 2017, 01:10 PM

I saw a couple of games on Channel 5, first time that live cricket coverage has been shown on terrestrial UK TV since the 2005 5th Test of The Ashes, I believe.

Alastair Cook has resigned as England captain after 59 matches in charge. What do you make of this?

Posted by: King Rollo 6th February 2017, 04:16 PM

He did a good job but it was time to step down. Someone with a less cautious approach is needed. Joe Root would seem to be the best candidate. Cook will still have a role to play as opening batsman for a few more years.

Posted by: Mack 7th February 2017, 08:53 AM

I think yes Joe Root would be the best candidate to be England captain. I hope he does.

Posted by: Mack 13th February 2017, 01:15 PM

Joe Root has been as named as the new England test captain.

What do you make of this?

Posted by: Mack 20th February 2017, 01:09 PM

Ben Stokes will earn £1.7m for playing in the Indian Premier League. The most expensive player that a team I think has paid for in the IPL.

Posted by: Mack 3rd March 2017, 07:32 PM

Hopefully so far so good as England try and bowl out West Indies in the first ODI.

Posted by: Mack 19th April 2017, 12:25 PM

Incredible feat in Chris Gayle who becomes the first person to hit over 10,000 T20 runs.

Posted by: Benteke 24th April 2017, 07:24 PM

Gayle the greatest batsman I've seen.

Posted by: Mack 26th April 2017, 11:59 AM

The city-based Twenty20 tournament has been given the go-ahead to start in 2020.

Posted by: Mack 9th June 2017, 07:47 AM

Anyone watching the Champions Trophy currently taking place?

Posted by: King Rollo 9th June 2017, 11:16 PM

Yes,we've had two unlikely run chases by Bangladesh today and Sri Lanka yesterday. England looking strong at the moment, particularly their batting. It's a shame the weather has been so poor.

Posted by: Mack 13th June 2017, 12:36 PM

England are set to join Jason Roy ahead of their Champions Trophy semi-final match against Pakistan tomorrow.

Posted by: Mack 14th June 2017, 01:26 PM

From 128-2 to 211 all out for England in their Champions Trophy semi-final against Pakistan.

Have they blown it?

Posted by: Mack 15th June 2017, 07:44 AM

And they did it,

still England are looking for their 1st international 50-over trophy.

Posted by: Mack 18th June 2017, 11:19 AM

An good start from Pakistan. Hope they get 350 as it would be an exciting chase.

Less than that, I think India could still do it.

India bowled out for 158 laugh.gif

And fantastic win for Pakistan, they've been fantastic in the last two games!

Ireland and Afghanistan have been made the 11th and 12th Test-playing nations. I'm not sure where Afghanistan will be playing but Ireland's arrival means England will be playing the occasional away Test match in the summer.

Posted by: King Rollo 24th June 2017, 03:13 PM

Henry Blofeld will retire from TMS in September after 45 years in the commentary box. He might have made a few mistakes in the last few years but he will be much missed. Only Aggers remains from the classic line-up but he is still young enough to be there for some time to come.

That depends on how old you are. Some people would say the classic line-up included the likes of John Arlott and Brian Johnson. Plus, of course, Bill Frindall with his stats in the pre-computer age.

Posted by: Mack 24th June 2017, 07:17 PM

It's great news that Afghanistan and Ireland have been allowed to become a Test playing nations which is great for the game.

Yes,the classic line up I was referring to would be Brian Johnston,Henry Blofeld,Jonathan Agnew,Christopher Martin-Jenkins and Bill Frindall. I know John Arlott set the example that others followed and I do remember him from my younger days but by the time I became interested in cricket,he had gone.

Mark Stoneman giving the best reply to the Selectors for omitting him by reaching a 100 in the One-Day Cup Final

50 overs cricket , I know, but is still a big occasion performance.

Posted by: King Rollo 8th July 2017, 11:03 PM

I hope Luke Fletcher will be OK after being hit on the head by the ball in the T20 match shown on Sky this evening. He was the bowler so he had no helmet. The batsman hit the ball straight at him. He was able to walk off the field and was taken to hospital. The players went off for half an hour but decided to play on. He's posted a thumbs up photo on twitter so hopefully will be alright.

Posted by: Flatcap 13th July 2017, 08:28 PM

Phew. I just watched Middlesex v Surrey in the T20 Blast. I am exhausted after that, never mind the guys actually playing.

Posted by: Mack 18th July 2017, 01:00 PM

We essentially need 3 new batsmen & to drop a spinner. Move Stokes to 7 as he's too unreliable at 6 following our defeat against South Africa.

My team when everyone fit
Cook
Stoneman
Westley
Root
Livingstone
Bairstow
Stokes
Woakes
Moeen
Broad
Anderson

However, I fully expect the next test team to be 🙄

Cook
Jennings
Stoneman
Root
Bairstow
Stokes
Moeen
Rashid
Broad
Anderson
Ball

Posted by: King Rollo 18th July 2017, 03:35 PM

England have tried several opening batsmen to partner Cook since Strauss retired. They have all come in with lots of runs at county level but none of them have been convincing at Test level. They might as well give Stoneman a go now.

I'd like to see Jack Leach given a chance as the spin bowler.

Yes,it was a close finish with Middlesex almost messing it up. I'm a Middx fan and they've had several tense finishes in the last few weeks, the T20 against Glos and the 4 day matches against Essex and Warwickshire.

Posted by: Flatcap 20th July 2017, 08:15 PM

Just watched Durham v Leicester in tonight's T20. Disappointed for Durham as they were in a good position towards the end of the 1st innings.

Surrey against Middlesex comes round again, this time from the Oval. Ready for it King Rollo?

Posted by: King Rollo 20th July 2017, 08:44 PM

Yes,looking forward to it. Brendan McCullum finally made a big score this evening.

Posted by: King Rollo 23rd July 2017, 04:46 PM

Congratulations England on winning the World Cup. smile.gif

That was a gripping final played at a packed Lord's,a great advert for the womens' game.

Posted by: Mack 23rd July 2017, 07:22 PM

Great achievement, their first international title since 2009 and the 4th time they've won it.

Posted by: Mack. 28th September 2017, 09:40 PM

Shame to see cricket on the front pages for the wrong reasons following what's happened with Ben Stokes.

Posted by: King Rollo 30th September 2017, 04:55 PM

He's been very stupid. It certainly reduces England's chances of winning the Ashes as there are no other quality all rounders that can replace him.

Posted by: HeadlessJockey 1st October 2017, 04:26 PM

If the Ashes tour goes as badly as I think it might then I feel Bairstow will be batting up the order by the end with Foakes keeping wicket.

Posted by: Mack'sXmasSack 16th November 2017, 11:10 PM

Aussie squad: David Warner, Cameron Bancroft, Usman Khawaja, Steve Smith ©, Peter Handscomb, Shaun Marsh, Tim Paine(wk), Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, Nathan Lyon, Chadd Sayers, Jackson Bird.

For the upcoming Ashes test.

Posted by: King Rollo 16th November 2017, 11:45 PM

I don't know Cameron Bancroft or Chadd Sayers. Looking forward to the Ashes now. Australia are 2/5 to win the series. I hope it will be closer than that.

Posted by: Mack'sXmasSack 3rd December 2017, 09:30 AM

442-8d

Just been an abject performance by England after winning the toss and deciding to bowl

Posted by: Mack'sXmasSack 18th December 2017, 01:33 PM

Inevitable really wasn't it? that Australia have regained the Ashes from England are we looking at another 5-0 series whitewash?

Posted by: King Herodollo 19th December 2017, 09:24 PM

England just not good enough. The fast bowlers are more suited to English conditions and they don't have a top quality spin bowler. Some good batting by Vince,Malan and Stoneman but the two experienced ones,Cook and Root, were out of form. This could well finish 5-0 to Australia.
