Just for the sake of creating discussion. Imagine Britney & Rihanna dropped a collab this Friday totally unexpected. It is accompanied with a brilliant video directed by Joseph Kahn. And promo performances are announced but, in true Britney fashion, they come a month after debuting.

Bullet Points On Media Coverage
• Music Video released one week after full release. It's seen as the most impressive video in both artists repertoire for years. Some non entertainment outlets even argue that the video is the best of the year.
• Britney & Rihanna both promote the song heavily through social media. Blow out ads on Spotify and Apple Music.
• Rihanna grants Britney visibility in markets that had previously ruled her out.
• Radio deal instated WW for the first week of release.
• Promo performances are scheduled for VMA's and EMA's.

Where do you see this peaking?

This is a test for a game I'm thinking of starting for the forum. A BJSC style game, but participation would be neccesary for it to be a success. If went with mashups it could be a great way to intertwine interaction between two different artist forums. This would obviously merit a chart system to pinpoint the popularity of each entry.

Omg the topic title reminded me of this https://youtu.be/7YyxURxLGL8 rotf.gif

It's hard to imagine a superstar collab like Rihanna & Britney not being a #1, on paper it would be. More so due to the power of Rihanna, particularly outside of the US. I think it'd be a case of top 10 based mainly on name power if the song didn't connect or wasn't generally regarded as being particularly good, and a sure-fire #1 if the song was very well-received.

In the terms of the mash-up I'm struggling to think of it as being a real actual song for this topic's scenario. But picturing an original song with some quotable Work Bitch moments packaged in a commercially friendly Rihanna hit, it does sound like a winner in my mind.

(A pity they didn't do a new song in 2011 tbh)

I think it's likely to be a US #1 for sure. I reckon in the UK it'd enter top15 but rise to it's peak inside the top 3 3 or 4 weeks later or something. Espesh if all that promo and video was the plan for the single.

Like Jay, I do wish it was an original collab that happened in 2011. But hey, it gave Britney another number 1 in the US, didn't it?

Love this idea btw.

I think it would debut top 5 in the USA. And that's with a very aggressive promo plan on radio and streaming sites. Sales would be the reason it propelled to the top 5. Britney and Rihanna still possess the album buying generation, especially Britney for the fact of her debuting in 98.

With the video premiering the following week I see it definitely going top 3. #1 if a streaming juggernaut like 'Despacito' wasn't breaking records. After that peak to possibly #1 it would stabilize in the lower middle top ten. After the VMA performance about 2-3 weeks later we'd see it rebound to top 3.

UK I'd say about the same thing, just drop about 4-6 positions. Possibly #1 with a killer performance at EMA's, with the hope that it has built nicely up to the top ten on streaming.

This would be such an interesting one to actually happen, moreso in the UK. Given Britney is... I won't say past it, but much less likely to produce a solo hit than Rihanna, it'd be interesting to see how it would fare compared to say Work which was a collab with one of the biggest stars in the world Drake. Any Rihanna single would be a real challenger for number 1 but given urban stuff is her main focus, a huge pop banger with Britney would be not just a treat for the gays but also something that'd be so interesting to see unfold chart wise.
