So here we go, the answers to the first Buzzjack ‘Answer Smash’. Thanks to all those that played we had 36 players in the end and it seems to have really split opinion, as some found it easy and others really difficult! I hope everyone enjoyed it as a concept though. For the scoring, as mentioned in the original post, the main scoring is 5 points for a correct answer and 1 point for getting either the picture or written questions correct, but not giving the full answer. I’ve also decided to give out some discretionary points, for example if someone has answered both parts correct but not smashed the answer I have awarded 4 points. Other discretionary points will be given during the course of the answer reveal. The Players (36) awardinary paulgilb xajnipi Bjork Adele TS0301 jlj CianS92 M4NGO lordp chrissmith276 ultrafolklore dj_tim_e AaronTM PeteFromLeeds Mack. Ansel King Rollo n4yr ...ready for it Cremey vancey Vibe MiichaelKing21 MrAndrewMan Riser RabbitFurCoat jimwatts Jade Jester Jahq dandy* Chez Wombat dan-G oof Bré So over to the answers. |

Question 1
“Derek and the Domino’s song, that Eric Clapton wrote about George Harrison’s wife Patti (who he was in love with!)” Picture: Coldplay Written question: Layla Answer Smash: Coldplayla Commentary This was a fairly easy picture with a slightly more obscure question. Apparently Eric Clapton fell in love with George Harrison’s wife Patti Boyd and this song was written about his unrequited love for her – they eventually got together and married (and then divorced). *Some genius guesses of song titles, smashed with Coldplay, though – Lay your love on me, Play that song & Play the Game!! Five points: Awardinary, Paulgilb, xajnipi, Adele, TS0301, jlj, CianS92, M4NGO, lordp, chrissmith276, ultrafolklore, dj_tim_e, AaronTM, King Rollo, n4yr, ...ready for it, Cremey, MiichaelKing21, MrAndrewMa, Riser, RabbitFurCoat, jimwatts, Jade, Jester, Jahq, dandy*, Chez Wombat, dan-G, Bré Four points: Bjork One point: PeteFromLeeds (Coldplay your love on me) Ansel (Coldplay That Song) vancey (Coldplay the game) Vibe (Coldplay) Half a point: Mack. (ColdPatti) No points: oof This post has been edited by StoneDragon: Nov 23 2020, 08:26 PM |

That was the perfect introduction for me! I'm a huge Beatles fan so knew that trivia about George's wife and Coldplay are another of my favourite bands too

Question 2
Who sang ‘When everything's made to be broken, I just want you to know who I am’? Picture: Kajagoogoo Written question: Goo Goo Dolls Answer Smash: Kajagoogoo Dolls Commentary: A slightly harder photo, especially for younger players, but Kajagoogoo had a fairly iconic look so hopefully not too obscure. The question refers to lyrics from a very well-known song, Iris by the Goo Goo Dolls. Five points: Awardinary, Paulgilb, xajnipi, Adele, CianS92, M4NGO, lordp, dj_tim_e, AaronTM, PeteFromLeeds, Mack., Ansel, King Rollo, ...ready for it, vancey, MrAndrewMa, Riser, RabbitFurCoat, Jade, Jester, dandy*, Chez Wombat, dan-G, oof, Bré Four points: Bjork (KajagoogooGooGooDolls) jimwatts (Kajagoogoo Goo Dolls) One point: TS0301 (Goo Goo Dolls) jlj (Wake me up before you Goo Goo Dolls) chrissmith276 (Goo Goo Dolls) n4yr (Goo Goo Dolls) Cremey (Goo Goo Dolls) MiichaelKing21 (Frankie Goes To Hollywoo Goo Dolls) Jahq (Goo Goo Dolls) No points: ultrafolklore (boybandiris idk haha) Vibe (Duran Duran ) This post has been edited by StoneDragon: Nov 23 2020, 08:26 PM |

I watched the TOTP 'Story of 1983' documentary just last week so a timely reminder of Kajagoogoo 'Iris' is a great song also

I didn't know the song lyric but Goo Goo Dolls was the only act that I could think of that would fit for that one.

Question 3
The Carpenters phoned ET on this top 10 hit single Picture: Dizzee Rascal Written question: Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft Answer Smash: Dizzee Rascalling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft Commentary: I think this is one of my favourite answers!! Although he hasn’t really troubled the charts lately, with 5 number ones to his name, the photo should be a fairly recognisible one of Dizzee Rascal. The question relates to the Carpenter’s cover version of ‘Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft’, a song originally by Canadian group Klaatu. *A few people ran with the ET phone home theme and tried to slip that into their answer! Five points: Awardinary, Paulgilb, xajnipi, TS0301, M4NGO, lordp, chrissmith276, dj_tim_e, AaronTM, King Rollo, Cremey, Riser, jimwatts, Jade, Jester, dandy*, Chez Wombat Four points: Bjork One point: PeteFromLeeds (Dizzee Rascall me) Ansel (Calling Occupants ) vancey (Dizzee rascalifornia dreaming) Vibe (Disee rascal home) RabbitFurCoat (Dizzee Rascall Me) Jahq (Dizzee Rascal) dan-G (??? Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft) Bré (Dizzee Rascal something or other) Half a point: Mack. Question 4
Tiffany from Eastenders took this song to number one Picture: Cyndi Lauper Written question: Perfect Moment Answer Smash: Cyndi Lauperfect Moment Commentary: The picture caught quite a lot of people out being of 80s icon Cyndi Lauper. Apologies to the non-Brits for the Eastenders reference but the character of Tiffany was memorably played by Martine McCutcheon, who in turn took her debut single, Perfect Moment, to number one. Five points: Paulgilb, xajnipi, M4NGO, lordp, chrissmith276, dj_tim_e, AaronTM, Ansel, King Rollo, Vibe, MiichaelKing21, Riser, jimwatts, Jade, Jester, dandy*, oof Four points: Bjork One point: jlj (Perfect Moment) CianS92 (Cyndi Lauper) Mack. (FlorencePerfectMoment) n4yr (Cyndi Lauper Alone Now?) Cremey (...perfect moment) vancey (Something perfect moment! ) RabbitFurCoat (...Perfect Moment) Jahq (Perfect Moment) No points: awardinary, Adele, TS0301, ultrafolklore, PeteFromLeeds, ...ready for it, MrAndrewMa, Chez Wombat, dan-G, Bré This post has been edited by StoneDragon: Nov 23 2020, 08:27 PM |

Question 5
The Barenaked Ladies sang about an instance of 7 days on this single Picture: Boyzone Written question: One Week Answer Smash: Boyzone Week Commentary: This tuned out to be the most correctly answered question. The picture shows a fresh-faced, mid-90s Boyzone. What surprised me the most was how many people remembered the Barenaked Ladies and their top 5 hit, One Week, which is obviously a collection of 7 days! Five points: Awardinary, Paulgilb, xajnipi, Adele, TS0301, jlj, CianS92, M4NGO, lordp, chrissmith276, ultrafolklore, dj_tim_e, AaronTM, Mack., Ansel, King Rollo, n4yr, ...ready for it, Cremey, vancey, Vibe, MrAndrewMa, Riser, RabbitFurCoat, jimwatts, Jade, Jester, Jahq, dandy*, Chez Wombat, dan-G, oof, Bré Four points: Bjork No points: PeteFromLeeds, MiichaelKing21 |

One Week is such a tune - remember trying to do at karaoke and the verses are so fast... Managed pretty well until the section where it goes:
Gonna get a set of better clubs Gonna find the kind with tiny nubs Just so my irons aren't always flying off the back-swing |

thankfully there wasn't anything else that could've been mashed with Goo Goo Dolls cos I'd never have recognised a picture of Kajagoogoo. Couldn't think of anything for the Dizzee Rascal question though, it's been so long since he was last relevant that I didn't recognise him.

Question 6
The Buggles hit number one with this song Picture: Craig David Written question: Video Killed the Radio Star Answer Smash: Craig Davideo Killed the Radio Star Commentary: This was the only question where every player scored a point. A young, early 2000s, Craig David can be seen in this photo, from his Born to Do it era. The answer refers to the biggest and most well-known song from the Buggles, Video Killed the Radio Star. *Mack. drops points for not including the surname (it no longer smashes) and MiichaelKing21 switched the order for something weird!! Five points: Paulgilb, xajnipi, Adele, TS0301, CianS92, M4NGO, lordp, chrissmith276, ultrafolklore, dj_tim_e, AaronTM, PeteFromLeeds, Ansel, King Rollo, n4yr, ...ready for it, Cremey, vancey, Vibe, MrAndrewMa, Riser, RabbitFurCoat, jimwatts, Jade, Jester, Jahq, dandy*, Chez Wombat, dan-G, oof, Bré Four points: Bjork Two and a half points: Mack. (Craig Video Killed The Radiostar) Two points: MiichaelKing21 (Video Killed The Craigdio Star) One point: awardinary (Craig David) jlj (Video Killed The Radio Star) |

I was also under the impression that "Tiffany from Eastenders" was responsible for I Think We're Alone Now oops.
