An surreal moment back in 2001, I remember when he looked an obvious favourite to be in Hear*Say.

What made him sing Britney's 'Hit Me Baby One More Time'? for his audition?

That was one of the extraordinary things I've seen on a talent show. But he turned it around a year later.

Hw wanted to sing his own song and was talked into Baby One More Time being told there was no chance if he sang a song the audience didn't know. I think it was the first time I realised how shows could be twisted. Nigel apologised to him afterwards and the two became friends

No I am saying maybe God made Darius sing Hit Me Baby One More Time? biggrin.gif

Speaking of religion, I wonder if Darius is a Zoroastrian btw like the original King Darius I of Persia I assume he was named after?

They showed on Channel 5's 'Most Shocking Talent Show Moments' last night. Bit harsh what people said e.g. Noel and Danny.

It was just a TV programme harsh yes that will be shown on every 'Most Shocking Talent Show Moments' type of show.

I don't blame Nigel. I blame the editing, the producers' need to have a villain to make it more dramatic.

However neither Nigel nor the producers could have known how popular the show would be and how it would grab the tabloid media and celebrity mags like Heat. Their villain got completely trashed. He was back at university but being harassed constantly by the media. His family were targeted too - a reporter even tried to quiz his 5 year old brother in his school playground.

It was a horrendous time for Darius. A lesser man would have walked away but not Darius.

Nigel and Darius are good friends. They met up regularly in LA.

He did sing HMBOMT at his audition in Glasgow but not that version. He sang a fantastic straight version. His voice was great.

The question you should have asked is what made him sing that version much later in the process.

Throughout the process the judges had made it clear that movement was important for the performances they wanted. Darius hated it.

Darius with a range from bass baritone to tenor with a good falsetto was told by one of the judges to show them his full range.

With those two things in mind and 10 minutes to come up with an arrangement, it's no wonder that it didn't work out well.

It's better if you shut your eyes.

Won't stop you hearing the finger clicks and final palm slapping though.

He got a right old ribbing when he did Never Mind The Buzzcocks but he took it very well.
