Is selling very well so far. biggrin.gif Shall be interesting to see how it keeps up with sales as WPSIATWIN wasn't really the best for seeing how it with-held with sales because there weren't any proper singles bar the first two released to promote the album. laugh.gif

They should become the 5th biggest selling album of the year so far, this week and then could possibly over take the Kaisers within the next few weeks! biggrin.gif

I actually think there will be 3 chart-eligible singles relaesed from this album, which should help, then of course headlining Glastonbury won't exactly harm album sales. But the great thing about AM is you never can predict what they will do next. Turner has already got a few songs ready for recording, so who knows what will come of them?

Are they new songs for album #3 or for b-sides?

No idea, tbh. They could be for yet another EP, or they may be shelved until the new album. Or they could be shelved for ever. I read a review by some Yank the other day stating that in their (current) 75 min show they more or less exhausted all their songs. It's a total nonsense, of course, I reckon AM have approx 50 songs they could play at any one time.

I think they might release another EP for the 3rd single, or maybe even the 2nd, shall just have to see though I guess.

AM have loads of songs that they could play, I mean they've played b-sides and EP tracks and the lot at gigs, and how many other bands do that? laugh.gif

Posted by: Grandwicky May 11 2007, 10:29 AM

Yeah they played Bigger Boys And Stolen Sweethearts at the last one I went to wub.gif and my mate couldn't believe it as it was her favourite song by them laugh.gif I still can't believe that was only a b-side then again that shows how good they are happy.gif

I hope they will! biggrin.gif happy.gif

But i'm not too sure. sad.gif I'm glad that they're not leaving it late to release a 2nd single as that will mean by the time the simgle is released it's still floating there or thereabouts in the chart, so it's not too hard to find a copy. laugh.gif

FA seems to be getting a lot of airplay already. It's got definite number 1 potential (just as long as they don't release it when 2 corporate divas decide to release a duet or summat).

I'm suprised how quickly they've got things going with the 2nd single to be honest. Most other artists seem to wait a good few weeks after the hype of the lead single has died down, before sending the 2nd single to radio, which must mean the video should be out in a few weeks. biggrin.gif

I know! ohmy.gif

In the midweeks the Manics were nearly 2k ahead of them, so it really suprised me to see them as #1 again this week. laugh.gif So the question begs, will it be able to match the 4 weeks at the top WPSIATWIN had? ohmy.gif

allbum chart -3rd week : 39,488 (#1)

Posted by: Rooney May 14 2007, 05:43 PM

Unexpectedly surviving the release of new albums from Travis and the Manic Street Preachers to spend a third week at number one, the Arctic Monkeys’ second album, Favourite Worst Nightmare sold 39,488 copies last week, to take its 20 day tally to 349,078, writes Alan Jones.

That’s enough to move it up to fifth place in the year to date table, behind Amy Winehouse’s Back To Black (600,825), Take That’s Beautiful World (535,704), Life In Cartoon Motion by Mika (453,061) and Yours Truly, Angry Mob by The Kaiser Chiefs (388,877).

While that’s an impressive achievement, its sales so far still trail the massive 363,735 first week tally of the Arctic Monkeys’ 2006 debut Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not, and the fact that neither Travis nor the Manic Street Preachers - both acts with multiple platinum million sellers to their credit - were able to sell even 40,000 copies of their new albums on their first week in the shops underlines the frailty of the current market.

For the second time in as many weeks, the Manic Street Preachers snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Last week, their single Your Love Alone Is Not Enough surrendered its midweek lead to finish at number two, and this week their new album Send Away The Tigers does likewise. It was number one on all of the midweek sales flashes but its final sales of 38,769 place it just behind Favourite Worst Nightmare. The Manics’ 10th chart entry, it at least made a much better start than their last album, 2004’s Lifeblood, which debuted and peaked at number 13 on first week sales of 23,990, and has still sold fewer than 80,000 copies.

Source: Music Week

It got #1, but only just! laugh.gif I think it'll sell alright again this week, but I dunno whether it'll still be #1. Competition from Amerie and Linkin Park as well as maybe one of the other albums possibly climbing!

It's funny though, how the total cume of Favourite Worst Nightmare hasn't yet beat the first week sales of WPSIATWIN! laugh.gif

Posted by: Rooney May 15 2007, 05:23 PM

Is midweeked at #4 this week...

Anyone else know what big albums are out next week? I can't think of many. I reckon the Monkeys might climb next week to #3.

Posted by: Rooney May 20 2007, 06:10 PM

On the artist album chart, The Arctic Monkeys three-week reign with Favourite Worst Nightmare comes to an end, with a 39.3% slip in its sales, to 23,950, forcing it to dip to number four behind a trio of new entries – but third placed Funeral For A Friend and runner-up Rufus Wainwright are simply bit part players to Linkin Park, whose Minutes To Midnight registers their best ever weekly sales tally of 94,501. It’s the first hard rock album to top the chart since last July, when both Lostprophets and Muse reached number one. Muse opened with an even higher first week sale of 115,144.

Sold okay again this week. biggrin.gif The album's holding up quite well. I reckon it'll do another 15-19k again this week, and might even possibly climb. I just hope the album can still be in the Top15 by the time FA's airplay/tv exposure begins to happen. biggrin.gif

Blame Music Weekly. laugh.gif I think it's them just stating the difference in music between say Razorlight, The Killers and Arctic Monkeys compared to Muse and Lostprophets, even though, there really isn't that much difference. laugh.gif

Posted by: Grandwicky May 20 2007, 09:19 PM

Well they're hardly 'hard rock' but they're 'heavier' than the likes of Razorlight and Arctics which is what they're trying to get at.

Anyway Arctics have better sales than the mids were saying they would and Linkin Park must have sold over half their copies on Monday ohmy.gif

That's what i'm glad at now as well. cheer.gif I think they could possibly climb next week, but i'm not sure how high though. I mean has the total cume for FWN surpassed the original first week sales for WPSIATWIN? unsure.gif

There's about a 30k gap until the Kaisers, but they've got a 2nd single out at the moment. tongue.gif So hopefully the Arctics should over take them in due course. happy.gif

I'm amazed at some people commenting on how 'poorly' this album has sold (not in this thread, but on Haven's chart thread in particular). Seems like there are a few people who are almost praying for them to crash and burn, which is a bit sad IMHO. This was never going to sell as many as the debut in the first few weeks but to be number 5 in the YTD album sales chart after 4 weeks would be classed as an amazing achievement for any other band, let alone an Indie one.

Posted by: space May 23 2007, 03:54 PM

^thats what i m sayin.
AM are not oasis n they dont want to become a band like oasis (btw,i love oasis).
they are doing their own thing n so far everything is great (except not releasing Mardly Bum...)

Yep I know exactly what you mean. This album has sold BRILLIANTLY so far. Sure sales aren't as good as WPSIATWN, but I don't think many fans expected them to be. Thing is as well, they're on a small labell, unlike any of the acts around them, who have lots of money to be able to promote everything. After 1 single it's done 350k at a slow time of the year, so I think that it's done great so far. happy.gif

Posted by: Rooney May 28 2007, 02:11 PM

I'm thinking the Monkeys sold about 16k this week looking at the Music Weekly report. happy.gif

VERY steep fall this week, but I guess that's down to the fact that Paul McCartney, Mutya, The Twang, Rihanna etc etc have all had new albums out this week. Still the promo is beginning to take it's toll for FA now, so hopefully the album shall climb! biggrin.gif happy.gif

True. happy.gif WPSIATWIN sold brilliantly. It sold so much in it's first couple of weeks and very little albums experience that, and I mean I never thought in a million years they'd come up with an album that sold as well as their first did, and like you those album sales happened with only really 1 single. happy.gif FA is really shaping up to be huge, as it's got a lot of wide spread appeal and quite a few people that wouldn't consider themselves Arctic Monkey's fans have said great things about FA. happy.gif

06 Amy Winehouse 21.500
08 Calvin Harris 16.200

I'd hazard a guess that the album sold about 14k this week, give or take a little as sales seem to pretty tight once you're out of the Top10. Hopefully though the album will go Top10 next week again. happy.gif

So true. happy.gif

And hopefully this should pass 500k in a couple of weeks, it's on course to do so at the moment and the exposure the single's getting and all the gigs they're playing can't be doing them any harm and add that to the LCCC gigs that are happening as well, hopefully it's sales should be increasing all the time. happy.gif

I hope it does, but i'm not too sure. I guess it just depends on what the video airplay etc is like for it.

But i'm not sure anymore whether Old Yellow Bricks is gonna be the next single. Jo Whiley said today she has no idea at all what the new single is and i'd have thought with her connections and everything she'd have known. laugh.gif So it makes me think that Old Yellow Bricks as a single is still really a rumour and something like 505 or Teddy Picker might be released as the 3rd single instead.

Posted by: *Ryan* Aug 14 2007, 02:27 PM

Well yeah exactly. It hasnt been confirmed, so there is still always doubt.

But i think the obvious choices are 505 and Teddy Picker. I remember 505 being played quite a bit by Radio stations, just as the album was released, and it seemed to get a great response.

Old Yellow Bricks is one of my faves, but if they want Album sales, 505 or Teddy Picker are the better choices.

But i dunno, Maybe Old Yellow Bricks has like a personal thing to the band or something happy.gif hence why they might want to release it.

If they do release Old Yellow Bricks i've a feeling they'll have already done the video for it, because when they did the Brits they accepted one of their awards dressed up as The Wizard of Oz characters, and if they did do a video then i'd say it would have some concept to do with The Wizard of Oz because that's what the song's based on. laugh.gif And didn't they say that they missed the Brits because they were filming a video? laugh.gif Would make sense I guess, but only time will tell. happy.gif

I don't think they've got another million seller on their hands but if they pick the right 3rd single, or indeed if they just get to a 3rd single they can make it to about 800,000 which isn't that far off the first album sales I don't think

So this album will have done well considering alot of the hype the first one got

I totally agree. I don't think there's much chance the alubm will sell a million but even what it's sold so far is great. happy.gif The first albums done about 1,150,000 I tink so i'd say at a guess the first album at the moment has sold about double what FWN has to date.

I think there's potential though for this album to sell quite a lot more though still, but it just depends on things. When 3rd single comes out it's gonna be a very competitive time with loads of artists returning with their new singles and everything so it might hamper the airplay etc that the 3rd single will get.

I doubt they'll over take either Take That or Mika, both will sell a million (again in Take That's case) this year I reckon. Mika will release a 4th single around Xmas time so he'll get bumper sales and Take That have their huge tour at the end of the year and that's likely to help them sell a lot more records.

The sooner Old Yellow Bricks starts getting airplay the better to be honest. I just hope the album doesn't fall out of the Top75!

Apparently anyway Old Yellow Bricks has been used as theme tune music on MTV Italy and it's gone down really well so who knows. It might help the album, but then again it might not.

Bu Favourite Worst Nightmare has sold 600k which is still good. Hopefully it should sell a bit more though before they put this era to bed and start work on the next album. happy.gif

Only 4k, eek thats bad sad.gif

Seems album sales are quite awful at the moment too. It will hopefully sell 750-800k.

I dont see 3x Platinum happening though sad.gif

Album sales on the whole are truly terrible at the moment, but I think that from next Monday they should begin to rise again as some big albums are being released and hopefully that might lift album sales.

I just hope it manages to not fall out of the Top75 in the next couple of weeks, I don't think it will but it may but here's hoping all the promo for Old Yellow Bricks has started in a week or two! biggrin.gif

But the album's sold well over 500k now and Domino will be as happy as Larry with those sales and the Arctics won't be too disappointed with them either. happy.gif

Posted by: Rooney Sep 2 2007, 06:39 PM

The album's back up one place to #36 this week! happy.gif

Posted by: Rooney Sep 3 2007, 01:42 PM

I'd say the album sold there or thereabouts 5k this week which is an improvement upon last week. happy.gif

Hopefully sales should begin to rise now within the next few weeks! biggrin.gif

we could expect even bigger sales...anyway...maybe the 2nd album sales syndrome...frand ferdinand had the almost the same problem with their second album.great reviews but not over 1m like their first lp.

bloc party , keane , especially kaiser chiefs , libertines , kasabian , almost every uk band , didnt do better than arctics in album sales with their second lp...maybe razorlight only but that was definitely a sell out or just a matter of luck("america" anyone?)...

only a very strong single can bring back the album high oin the charts and as i v said i can see only "teddy bear" to make it...

Yeah, 2nd album syndrome has hit them i think.

But just because it wont sell as much as the debut, its automatically labelled somewhat a flop, when i reality it isnt.

Not many artists, can out-do their debuts tbh....

Posted by: Rooney Sep 4 2007, 12:01 PM

Most bands get hit by the 2nd album syndrome after having a huge first album and like you say Space, the only band that really hasn't been affected by it is Razorlight, who have had a huge selling 2nd album. Bands like Hard-Fi and Editors don't have as much pressure on them with their 2nd albums because when thry were first released they never really set the charts on fire but over the next few months after their albums were released they gradually got bigger sales and more exposure.

But Arctic Monkeys still have a lot left in them this era I reckon, if they win the Mercury award tonight they'll have a rise in album sales and with the right promo and a good video Old Yellow Bricks should do reasonably well too. happy.gif

Only 6%. :\ That's pretty awful considering the increase that all the others have.

However, saying that it's the 2nd highest selling album on the list and they've not really been in the public eye of much lately and they didn't perform either, but hey, 6% is better than nothing right? laugh.gif happy.gif

The album's down to #39 this week, but it's had a sales increase this week I do believe so all is good. happy.gif

What is pleasing though is Klaxons album [who's had all this hype with the Mercurys] is below Arctic Monkeys album this week!

Their sales aren't even that bad, only 2 singles and sales have been really low for about 6 months

They really need a third single to get those christmas sales in though, but it could easily do another couple of hundred thousand if they pick the right song and if it's released at the right time

I agree, and maybe they're delaying the release of the single to do that?

But anyway the album sales are good, they're on a small independant label and selling almost 600k is great for a label like Domino! Considering they do minimal promo too [well compared to a lot of other acts] it's even better news! happy.gif

Posted by: blade699 Sep 26 2007, 10:40 PM

I know, i'll be suprised if it'll do a 100k before the promo rounds start for "Can't Get Along (Without You)" and i've a feeling too that the single might flop a bit tbh. sad.gif Not sure how well it'll do at promoting the album either, shall hopefully help the album's sales in the Xmas period though. I think though if they want to really make something of this album, then around January time they have to release "Tonight" as a single. Poor sales but nothing much will be about meaning the album may do a Wino or something along those lines if promoted correctly. happy.gif

But Mika and Wino both have a lot more publicity and everything. laugh.gif Amy Winehouse has barely been out of the press this year, and Mika's had probably the biggest track of 2007 out.

"Teddy Picker" will be the final single i'm sure of it, which will mean the album will probably stall at sales of 600k, which isn't too bad when you look at it tbh. Album sales have been terrible this year really, and so far it's out sold Kaiser Chiefs who's first album sold a lot more than Arctic Monkeys. happy.gif

I hope they're nominated for a couple of Brits again! I think they will. happy.gif I'm not entirely sure whether they'll win Best Album and Best Band again this year though, but then again I can't see other bands winning or getting nominated either. laugh.gif Hard-Fi maybe for both? Then Mika for Best Album maybe? I'm not sure at all though, I can't think of many at all! laugh.gif

I've no idea what their total sales are anymore. sad.gif I'd guess the album will total up at about 630k...

I'd be VERY suprised if there was a 4th single, and seen as another Arctic Monkeys album is penciled in for 2008, as well as Alex's side album I doubt there will be. So unless a song of theirs is used in an advert or something i'd imagine the sales it has at the moment will be there or thereabouts the final sales.

Posted by: Rooney Jan 13 2008, 07:34 PM

The album is at #98 this week for anyone that's interested. tongue.gif

i cant understand this...its like the last year...
awards , best of the year lists , new 3rd single , december gigs n the album is ...#98...promotional problem maybe or what?

...when in the top 75 are many mediocre indie albums...

Yep it'll definitely be a promotion problem, but tbh, I don't think Domino really care. Selling over 600k for an album is amazing from an independant label. With the money they'd spend on promo they'd probably make a loss in the end. laugh.gif

Posted by: Grandwicky Mar 2 2008, 08:37 PM

Does anyone ever think they don't sell as much as they really should do? laugh.gif I know I'm always 'sales don't matter' but I really think that considering the amount of c**p that has sold over a million FWN deserves to be there too!

Posted by: space Mar 2 2008, 08:45 PM

^agree...

Posted by: Rooney Mar 2 2008, 09:40 PM

It'd be nice to see it sell more, but I don't really think it matters at the end of the day. They've plenty of good fans and their gigs always sell out, and they've no chance of getting dropped in the near future! happy.gif Would have been nice to see this album sell over a million, but ah well. tongue.gif

Posted by: Grandwicky Mar 3 2008, 04:42 PM

Well yeah that's what I mean it'd just be nice that's all! But that's the thing about them I really like, they're people who you can say they're 100% in it for the MUSIC and that's what it should be all about! biggrin.gif

Posted by: Rooney Mar 3 2008, 08:27 PM

No idea at all how much the album sold this week. I'd put my best estimation at about 6k-7k. happy.gif

This is just for 2007. I imagine FWN's total sales will be close/surpassed 650k now. Also it's good to see how much WPSIATWIN has sold in 2007!

I reckon the album sold about 4k this week!

Would be interesting to see an updated version of their sales from 07 and 08 added together...

Rooney! This is an official invite for you to visit the Take That Forum! I think it only fair that you return the favour as I've visited the Monkeys forum (and a very entertaining forum it is too). Please visit even if its only to say hello/goodbye!

Rooney! Thanks for the visit ... even if it was a brief one! As I know that you Arctics have a fab sense of humour - what do you think of this little story! Totally true of course!

i think that the release of TLSP ,with all the buzz around Alex, will help the album to stay in the top75 a few more weeks

Posted by: Rooney Mar 16 2008, 09:38 PM

Yeah I think it will stay in the Top75 for a while too. I really wanna see an updated sales total for FWN too. laugh.gif sad.gif
